MENS 2ND XI - 10/04/2021 VS DEREHAM 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 10/04/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 10/04/2021 HEADLINE: City youngsters show their worth LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham High School RESULT: 7-1 Win REPORT: With 9 of City's 14 man squad all under 18 it was very much a game for the youngsters to show how much they have improved in a somewhat disjointed season! City started the better side winning an early penalty corner which was duly dispatched by Jeremy Elliott. The city team continued to move the ball around with pace and accuracy and where unfortunate when both Sam Hyatt and Josh Bailey were denied by the cross bar. As luck would have it Dereham created very little early on but scored with their first penalty corner. Dereham had a very positive 10 minutes when the created several other penalty corners but some good keeping from Luke Elwes kept the scores level. City regrouped and began to turn the screws on the Dereham defence and scored two quick fire goals before half time through another Jeremy Elliott drag flick and an excellent Rio Iccarino goal. HT: 3-1 Into the second half and the City youngsters started to press hard and continue the good work from the 1st 35 minutes. Despite an even 10 minutes a great run down the right hand side from Josh Bailey led to a tap in for Rafe Lochore. Jeremy Elliott nearly completed his hat trick but once again City were denied by the would work. The defence of Bailey, Fox and Hyatt were starting to really tighten up and deny Dereham any clear cut chances with good work by Pallister T, Roy and Elliot in the screens. Rio I on debut had a stellar game at outer mid alongside Ed Taylor who scored City's 5th goal with an excellent run and reverse stick finish. With Dereham starting to tire the City youngsters pressed on and added a 6th with another fine run setting up Rich Silvester for a sliding tap in. A final 7th goal was added when an excellent run Toby Pallister into the D led to another fine cross and finish by Jonty Black. An excellent performance from City's youngsters against an experienced Dereham side. POTM : Toby Pallister

MENS 2ND XI - 31/10/2020 VS CAMBRIDGE NOMADS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: City take their chance LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Wilberforce Road - Pitch 3 RESULT: 4-2 Win REPORT: Following last weeks disappointing defeat to Cambridge City 4s, the travelling 2s were looking for redemption against a strong Cambridge Nomads side who were undefeated and sitting top of the table. A strong 15 man squad travelled with Ethan and Gabriel Marchant returning to the side with the rest all un-changed from last week. It was a very cagey opening 10 minutes as both sides looked to find their foot hold in the game however it was the home side who capitalized on some slack marking to score the opening goal. Both teams following this started to create chances and penalty corners and City levelled the score from an excellent Jeremy Elliot penalty corner flick. Both keepers were pulled into action before Cambridge retook the lead from a mistake in midfield leaving an overload and an unmarked forward fired home past keeper Elwes. City however were to go into the break at 2-2 with an excellent bit of skill and finish from Gabriel Marchant. HT 2-2 After the break and City were dominant for the first 10 minutes moving the ball around well and creating half chances, one half chances was converted as Jeremy Elliot converted another penalty corner. Following City's third goal this seemed to wake Cambridge up as they then put a lot of pressure on the City backline forcing keeper Elwes into some great saves. City however regained composure and made sure of the three points as they added a fourth goal as Josh Bailey fired home a low shot into the goal through the keepers legs. This result shows what this team is capable off if they can continue to take chances and sure up defensive mistakes. Roll on next week, or well roll on Lock down....

L (1-3) 24/10/2020 - M2 vs Cambridge City 4 (H / L) DISAPPOINTING HOME LOSS |

MENS 2ND XI - 24/10/2020 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 24/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 24/10/2020 HEADLINE: Disappointing home loss LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-1 Loss REPORT: Sadly the Mens 2s could not bounce back following last weeks defeat away to Pelicans. A very poor start to the game meant the 2s were 2-0 down inside 10 minuets. A good fightback meant that we started to dominate possession towards half time and despite creating several half chances and penalty corners City trailed 2-0 at the break. Into the second half and despite loosing Fox to a yellow card City fired home a deserved goal from Jeremy Elliott. City pushed hard for an equaliser and somehow Josh Bailey couldn't find the goal scoring touch at the far post to bring City level. City who had over 80% of possession in the half as well as creating several half chances sadly missing the cutting edge and didn't score a deserved equaliser. As luck would have it Cambridge then scored with the first shot of the second half as a bouncing cross was missed by a City defender and scored at the far post. Full Time 3-1 to Cambridge but certainly closer than the scoreline suggest and frustrating to loose a game when a side has a total of 5 shots against you. We will pick our heads up and look forward to a trip to Cambridge Nomads on Saturday.

MENS 2ND XI - 17/10/2020 VS PELICANS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 17/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 17/10/2020 HEADLINE: A bad day at the office LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Lynnsport RESULT: lost 3-1 REPORT: City arrived to a dreary & very wet Kings Lynn. With an Umpire down: Jason Hyatt commendably stepped forward to take control at 1 end of the pitch. The rain seemed to stop just before play commenced. City started brightly with good use of both Channels Resulting in a few short corners. Josh bailey & Joe Roy making some good runs from midfield. City went 1-0 down against the run of play. Kidner had a great run before finding Silvester at the P-spot,his sweep into the far left corner was Destined for a goal until a fully stretched keeper made full use of the wet pitch as he slid across to claw the shot away. A ball played into the D, Silvester latched onto it as he rounded the keeper only to be swept off his feet. P- Flick awarded. Jez Elliot happily obliged slotting away into the right corner game on. Gabs Marchant, Joe Roy & Jonty Black Were causing all sorts of problems with driving runs. Marchants run & shot hit the post only to bounce out. This unfortunately was a turning point not in City’s favour. Pelicans put a short corner away to make it 2-1 & followed up late on with a 3rd to make it 3-1. A frustrating day for a well disciplined City side.

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 4-1 Win REPORT: A strong 16 man squad arrived at a wind-swept Taverham to take on Ipswich 2s who have made a steady start to life in Division 2N following promotion. City started the better and created two great goal scoring opportunities with the Ipswich keeper saving well from both Josh Bailey and Adie Land. City continued to assert their dominance but to the surprise of many Ipswich where the ones who opened the scoring with an excellently taken breakaway goal. City however responded well and continued to create many chances but a combination of poor finishing and some excellent saves meant City were goal less at the break. (Also denied a stone wall penalty stroke) HT 0-1 Into the second half and City were determined to be patient with the ball and wait for the chances which would inevitably come. City eventually got their deserved equalizer when Mike Thompson managed to fire home a reverse stick strike on the rebound from a City penalty corner, City took the lead soon after with a similar move this time a Mike Thompson drag flick finding the goal. City now in the lead started to really take control and as Ipswich tired a further two goals were score from two good deflections from Richard Silvester. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Bretton Gate RESULT: 7-2 Win REPORT: Following last weeks postponement City were more than up for their first league game of the season away to City of Peterborough 4s. A strong 15 man squad travelled on a horrible wet afternoon. City started well shifting the ball around well and creating several half chances. However following the umpire missing a foul on the half way line then awarding incorrectly a penalty corner against City the home side took the lead. However less than 5 minutes later a beautiful ball put in by Josh Bailey was deflected home by Richard Silvester. City then took control of the game moving the ball around at great speed creating several chances along the way. Rafe Lochore fired home a low strike to give City the lead before Mikey Thompson added a third from a penalty corner. It was 4-1 before half time when Mikey added his fourth from a tight angle. After the break City continued their dominance moving the ball around well but were once again in done by a Peterborough corner. 4-2 City didnt let this setback disrupt their hockey as Lochore added a fifth with a great reverse stick strike. Thompson completed his hattrick following another excellent finish before a brilliant team goal was deflected home by Will Kidner to finish the scoring. Full time a great team performance resulting in a 7-2 Win. POTM: Mikey T (Goals plus great movement up front)

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: City started the game well creating lots of chances and reducing the amount of opportunities the opposition got. This continued throughout the first half, creating chance after chance, but just failing to put the ball in the back of the net. We continued in the same fashion for the second half, but one nice touch from the opposition opened up the goal for an easy tapin, and then they punished us again after we made a mistake. MENS 2ND XI - 12/09/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Got there in the end... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: With a strong squad once again and selection on his mind, non-playing captain Lingy spoke positively about the game ahead after the efforts the previous week. Unfortunately, even though the warnings were given about maintaining our own quality and not being drawn into a scrappy game, the first half was not the best. Anyway, after good play from Gill, Land turned in his crisp shot. The lead didn't last too long with some brilliant anti-skill allowing a good finish for North Norfolk to level. Half time 1-1. Even after some words from the captain, the second half didn't initially get much better. Gill got on the scoresheet with a fine run around the top of the D and well-placed shot. Squaddie decided to take an early rest (bringing a chair especially) after purposely hooking his stick into a North Norfolk shoelace - vicious! Cue a few words and a lot of laughter from the sideline as both players received a yellow. North Norfolk drew level before City managed to step it up slightly to score three goals in the final 10mins. Land restored the lead from an intended pass. Short sharp passing in the final quarter of the pitch led to a Kidner goal before Land completed his hat-trick deflecting in a short corner from Jez. Plenty to work on before the start of the season and no doubt the selection headache continues.

Magpies travelled with a coach and strong 13 man squad including 3 players who played against our first XI the previous week. The game started at frantic pace in the late summers heat at Taverham with early attacks for both sides, Magpies started strong and put early pressure on the City backline of Fox, Scott, Bailey, Riddleston and Ling however the defense stood strong and City opened the scoring. Jeremy Elliot picked up the ball on half way and picked out Harry Gill who was in one on one with the keeper and finished excellently round the keeper, 0-1. Magpies still however had the majority of the ball but both sides created chances and short corners. City were thank full to the woodwork on two occasions as Magpies rocked both posts. City however were deadly on the break and found themselves 2-0 up on the break as Will Kidner set up Adie Land who finished well from an acute angle. 2-0 Half Time Magpies rallied well in the second half and created more chances on the City goal with Elwes in goal making a few crucial saves. Magpies kept rallying and eventually scored through one of their first team players who turned well in the D and fired into the corner. 2-1 The game then became quite open with both teams creating chances on goal however it was Magpies who scored another with Sam Hyatt very unfortunately putting the ball in his own net from Magpies short corner. 2-2. City created several chances towards the end of the game but the experienced Magpies defense saw out City's final attacks and the game finished all square. POTM votes were shared between Sam Hyatt and Joe Roy with both youngsters having a very promising game with Sam winning by 1 vote. Next week another friendly North Norfolk at home.
