WOMENS 3RD XI - 10/04/2021 VS DEREHAM 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 10/04/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 10/04/2021 HEADLINE: L3s post lockdown 2021 debut LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dereham HC RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: NCHC Womens 3s were chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch in their 2021 debut. After a respectful minutes silence in honour of the late Prince Phillip, City got off to a fast paced start and were moving the ball around very well, making full use of the space and width of the pitch. Putting pressure on Dereham from the start, city won an early short corner and although it didn’t quite go to plan initially, the ball found its way to POTM Lauren Lawrie on the far post and she was able to plant it skillfully in the bottom corner. Spurred on by their early lead, City continued to work Dereham hard and demonstrated some lovely link up play, eventually resulting in a fantastic pass threaded through to Emily Greenway who fired the ball across the face of goal to Mollae Scott who slotted the ball in past the keeper making it 0-2 to City at half time. The 2nd half saw City starting to tire as Dereham started to mount wave after wave of attack. The defence remained strong with Marie Hood making a superb save off the line at one point! Eventually Dereham were able to find their way through and scored a cracking goal to make the final score 1-2. The whole city squad put in 110% effort and were overjoyed to come away with a win.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 31/10/2020 VS COLCHESTER 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Wet weather doesn’t dampen team spirit! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Colchester Garrison Athletics club RESULT: 0-3 REPORT: Wet weather doesn’t dampen team spirit! So on possibly the wettest, windiest, most miserable Saturday of the season L3s were at Colchester looking for their first win. Wanting to build on last weeks impressive display against NCHC L2s, our L3s team started strongly despite the truly awful conditions. And in fact the team were amazing. Every single player raised their game and played with skill & determination. But, as has been the story this season, luck just wasn’t on our side despite the impressive team performance. We went into half time, wet to the skin and 0-2 down. The second half started equally as well, but Colchester were played their own powerhouse of a game and the L3s just couldn’t make headway. Final result 0-3, but a fantastic team performance from every single player who turned out in hideous conditions and held their heads up high. Onwards to next week!

L (1-3) 24/10/2020 - W3 vs Norwich City 2 (H / L) INTERCLUB CLASH |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 24/10/2020 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 24/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 24/10/2020 HEADLINE: Interclub Clash LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-3 REPORT: NCHC 3s played host to the clubs 2nd team on the first dry Saturday we had enjoyed all season so far. The pressure was on the opposition to win, so the 3s were keen to make them work hard to secure those sought after points. Having put together a "cunning plan" with coach Nick Hooper and captain Gemma Sargent, the 3s set about trying to frustrate the 2s, neutralising some of their key players by marking them out of the game. Both teams started strong, with end to end play for the opening 10 minutes of the game. The plan was going well until a short corner was conceded and unfortunately converted. City 3s were quick to respond though when Emma Richardson threaded a superb ball through to Ellie Alderton who, despite receiving a stick to the face in the process, was able to tuck the ball neatly into the corner of the goal. City 3s continued to work hard, with a number of strong runs down the right wing from player of the match Lucy McNarry, beating not one, not two, but three players at a time. With some excellent work in the attacking 'D' by Olivia Greenway and Gabby Sharp, the 3s were afforded several short corner attempts of their own, but were unable to convert. Returning to the team for her first game this season, half back Jenny Brine was soaking up a barrage of attacks from the opposition forwards down the left hand side of the pitch, and Kim Cleave was doing the same on the right. With the pressure building and a number of further short corners to defend, keeper Molly Gromett was beaten at the near post and the 2s were able to take the lead again before the half time whistle. The 2nd half saw renewed vigour from both teams and the 3s were determined to stick to the game plan, egged on by the hoards of socially distanced supporters cheering them on. Hannah Sanger, Lauren Lawrie and Jennifer Czerwinski worked tirelessly in the middle of the pitch to break down the opposition attacks and Jess Taylor-Balls and Lydia Ellis-Baumber remained strong at the back, aided by the direction and experience of Karren Dagless. It was only in the dying moments of the game that the 2s were able to exploit a gap in our otherwise impenetrable defence and extend their lead, making the final score 1 -3.

L (0-4) 17/10/2020 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 2 (A / L) A LOVELY MORNING FOR HOCKEY |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 17/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 17/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 17/10/2020 HEADLINE: A Lovely Morning for Hockey LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons RESULT: 0-4 REPORT: NCHC womens 3s travelled the short distance to Dragons Den to face their 2s. For a change, it was a sunny start and a lovely morning for hockey. Visitors, City, came out of the blocks well and put up a good fight against Dragons. Inside forwards Lauren Lawrie and Jenni Czerwinski showed some superb skill, linking with the forward line, followed by some lovely runs by Emily Leeming. But the hosts were the ones to rack up a goal in the first half, deservedly so after some strong up front play on their behalf. City defended tirelessly in the second half and saw off countless short corners. Sabina Baker, Sally Richards and Mia Edmonds were a force to be reckoned with. Credit to Dragons for putting three more away in the second half, earning them a 4-0 home win. We send our players Marie Hood and Mollae Scott best wishes for a speedy recovery from their injuries!

L (1-3) 10/10/2020 - W3 vs East Coast 1 (H / L) ANOTHER RAINY SATURDAY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 10/10/2020 VS EAST COAST 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Another Rainy Saturday LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-3 REPORT: The L3’s came out with a strong side on yet another rainy Saturday morning. The start of the game saw City struggling to organise when East Coast had possession and losing the ball frequently, leading to us conceding a goal. The team picked up slightly after this, and we managed to get more circle entries. City was determined to get an outcome from these opportunities, and started looking for short corners. It was this which lead to a incredible flick from Emma Richardson, leaving the score line 1-1. Despite this, our energy seemed to be running low, where East Coast we’re playing at a high intensity. Though we fought, City unfortunately conceded two more goals. However, we picked it up again for the last portion of the match, dominating during this time and giving East Coast very little possession, gaining it back swiftly every time we lost the ball. City created more chances than you would think possible in that space of time. The majority of these opportunities came from some brilliant drives from Emily Leaming and Marie Hood on the right. Although the 3-1 outcome was not what we had hoped for, we had a real improvement from beginning to end of the match, and played some very nice hockey. We can only go upwards from now, and the team has a positive, promising outlook. Well done to Emma Richardson and goalie Molly Grommett for jointly winning POTM.

L (0-6) 03/10/2020 - W3 vs Ipswich 2 (A / L) A BLEAK MORNING FOR HOCKEY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 03/10/2020 VS IPSWICH 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: A bleak morning for hockey LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Tuddenham Road RESULT: 0-6 REPORT: Another moist Saturday morning greeted NCHC L3's, with the weather being so bleak we had the pitch lights on at 10am in the morning! The squad, although missing a number of key players from the forward and midfield line up, were heroically boosted by Lucy Walton and Jess Balls from the L4's. Both had strong games throughout and we really appreciated them joining us on a raining and frankly pretty miserable early morning! We knew from the outset that this game was going to be a tough one. Ipswich 2's are never far from the top of the L3's new division and it was clear that they were well drilled from the outset. They also had many subs and we only had one! Despite this being the case, the tempo stayed high from City, with multiple runs from Emily Leeming, Lauren Lawrie, and Jenni Czerwinski, all of whom demonstrated great stick skills and dedication to the attack. Ipswich played fast one touch hockey throughout, and their well drilled high press made it very difficult to break their attacking line, however there was some exceptional play from Karen Dagless, Sabina Baker and Mia Edmonds. Finding ourselves 4-0 at half time did little to dampen our spirits. It was clear Ipswich had the upper hand and some wise words from Karren Dagless enabled us to return to the pitch full of beans and keen to use the rest of the match to think about our match play and learn from the game in hand. As a result the second half was much stronger and slicker! Sadly, Gabby Sharp, who's game had been exceptional up to this point, committed to a 50/50 ball, which ended up with both her and the Ipswich player wiping out and ending up face down on the pitch. Unfortunately, Gabby Sharp came off worse and damaged her shoulder, being taken to A&E by her amazing Mum. We are gutted that Gabby will probably be out for a while, and can't wait for her to join us on the pitch again when she it match fit. Player of the match was Mia Edmonds We ended the game 6-0, but still really proud of our performance. We had some good game play and are ready for next week to carry on our steady improvements on the pitch. GO L3's!!!!!!

L (0-3) 26/09/2020 - W3 vs Broadland 1 (H / L) EAST PROMOTION DEBUT WASHOUT |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 26/09/2020 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: East promotion debut washout LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-3 REPORT: Despite all the odds, the first league game of the season arrived and saw City 3s line up against Broadland 1s at Home in torrential rain. City were eager to begin their campaign in the East League, following last seasons triumphant promotion. City started the match confidently, creating some promising goal scoring opportunities from some crisp passing, between Mia Edmunds and Emma Richardson, down the right hand side of the pitch, releasing Emily Leeming to make an impact with a superb drive and cross into the crowded Broadland D. However, after an initial flourish of promising opportunities, Broadland increased the pressure on City's midfield. With City's heads forced down, passes began to go astray. City were struggling to use the space on the pitch to their advantage. Despite this, City's midfield, Kim Cleave, Jenni Czerwinski and Emma Richardson, worked hard to cope with the physicality of the Broadland side and win the 50:50 balls. City began to get pinned into their own half which resulted in two goals from Broadland in quick succession. City conceeded a penalty corner, which they struck hard, fortunately Molly Grommett was quick on her feet to make a stunning save. Continued pressure on City's hitouts, culminated in a Broadland midfielder completing a run into Citys D and smashing the ball home to put Broadland three goals up. The second half saw City regroup and adjust to the increased speed of play in the new division. City's defence, Sabina Baker, Sally Richards, Karen Dagless and Mia Edmunds, made some strong tackles which appeared to stunt the opposition attack and allowed for City to push up into the Broadland half. Strong drives into the D by Liv Greenway, Gabby Sharp and Emily Leeming were rewarded with a series of penalty corners. With each corner routine City were getting closer to scoring the first goal of the campaign, but the post was to deny them. The final score, 3-0, did not reflect the division of play between the two teams. Good Effort Womens!! POM was closely fought with votes for the whole defence, but Sabina Baker came out on top.

W (5-2) 19/09/2020 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (A / F) 5 GOAL FANTASTIC - COME BACK OF THE CENTURY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 19/09/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: 5 goal fantastic - come back of the century LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: dragons RESULT: 5-2 REPORT: Today it was a massive game against Norwich dragons 3s and let me tell you it was a fantastic game, but first of all a massive well done to Marie for creating a Zumba / aerobic warm up which everyone took part in. Anyway back to the game. We had Caroline Illing come and join us this week as well as Gabby Sharp trying a new position as left half back, which she soon took in her stride. The first half of the game was intense, however we had lots of amazing chances from Emily Leeming and Marie Hood creating a couple of chances in the 'D' which lead to a couple of shorts, which unfortunately weren't initially successful. Soon Serena Scott had a 1v1 with an attacking dragon, which unfortunatly she had no hope in saving, therefore we where loosing 1-0. However, we didn't give up the fight, but yet again dragons had a another chance to score which was successful - half way through the first half we where loosing 2-0. But wait, There was a turn of the switch when we won a short corner. Emily Spencer decided to have a straight strike, which allowed Olivia greenway to slip in (city come back at 2-1). Throughout the game we where still battling we some great chances from Lauren Lawrie, as well as great defending skills from the back by Sabina Baker and Karren Dagless. At the end of the first half we had another short corner so everybody was up (no pressure). We where so driven to score this goal. Emily Spencer received it and passed to Marie Hood on the slip left, pushed it in and scored! End of the first half was an equaliser. Before we got into the second half we had some lovely words of wisdom from Gemma as she was on the bench and there was so much support going towards everyone, which was so nice. But anyway, game faces on, we were out again for the attack. We started off strong as a team and driven to win this last friendly before we go into our new league. We gave it our all. Well done to Emily Leeming for getting lots of passes and running round like sonic the hedgehog, as well as Marie Hood and Lauren Lawrie for creating lots of chances for the forwards to attack. This teamwork allowed us to get goals from Ellie Alderton, Lauren Lawrie and another from Olivia Greenway, which made our result 5-2 overall (fantastic stuff). However, all of this good positivity may come with something bad, as the umpire carded Karren Dagless meaning we had to go super defensive, but well done to everyone for keeping there foot down as we conceded no goals, which was fantastic. With not long left they tried to get chances on goal but it was still unsuccessful. When the final whistle blew, it was a come back of the century the fantastic 12 did it! Well done everybody ! A special well done to Emily leeming for getting potm, awesome stuff

WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/09/2020 VS UEA 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/09/2020 HEADLINE: Midweek win! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: The Womens 3s enjoyed a close and hard fought midweek victory as they took on UEA Womens 2s at Taverham. The game started very even with both sides creating half chances with UEA taking the lead midway through the first half through a penalty corner. City thought back and following good play down the right hand side a pin point cross was turned home by Ellie Alderton. After the break City were far more the dominate side but struggled create and clear goal scoring opportunities until Ellie Alderton scored her second in a goal mouth scramble. City 3s were unlucky not to add any further goals as they sealed out a 2-1 victory.

W (1-0) 12/09/2020 - W3 vs Loddon 1 (H / F) SUNNY SATURDAY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 12/09/2020 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Sunny Saturday LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST (friendly) VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: Sunny Saturday This week we had a bit of challenge by playing Loddon, however it was no match for our fabulous, well driven squad of 15. To start off with we had a quick head start by the first couple of minutes; Ellie Alderton showing us on her debut a fabulous run on the left then being passed on the attack to finally Jenni Czerwinski having a shot on goal and making it onto the back board. Overall in the first half it was a challenge, having multiple short corners which we had no trouble of getting, unfortunately none of which went in. Down on the defensive end Serena Scott made an incredible save which made us all feel no worries of Loddon equalising. Half time occurred and we where back on again, everyone feeling pumped to get back out there on this sunny day. Amazing balls where being pulled across by Emma Richardson and Emily Spencer, which gave more chances for the forwards. However, we still where still determined to get that extra goal just, a massive well done to Lauren Lawrie and Marie Hood for giving amazing performances throughout the game never giving up. Lauren gave multiple chances for the forwards and made sure the oppositions attacks wouldn’t get chances down our defending end. In contrast, towards the end of the game Gabby Sharp decided to get a green card and was off for the last 2 minutes. Overall a massive congrats to Lauren Lawire and Marie Hood for both being voted this weeks POTM by the team, Marie sadly lost an intense game of rock-paper-scissors, crowning Lauren overall L3s POTM this week.

D (1-1) 05/09/2020 - W3 vs Harleston Magpies 4 (A / F) POST COVID CLASH |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: Post Covid Clash LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST (friendly) VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 1-1 POM - Sabina Baker REPORT: Post Covid Clash We arrived at a rather different socially distanced Magpies clubhouse with two lonely portaloo’s to welcome us alongside the blue toilet flush and hand sanitisers! Our pre-match warm up was brisk, with a pre-match note from Nick and our captain was on the side line so we will now call her our Covid Mascot! Magpies agreed to play in quarters, which was a big relief to the squad. First quarter started off with each team eyeing up the opposition and some solid play from end to end Magpies if anything had slightly more play on the ball but couldn’t fight their way through the even with Covid precautions! Second quarter was pretty boring for GK Serena due to Sabina, queen of defence, with some fancy stick work and solid balls out of the 23rd finding Maria & Emily S, on many occasions, we were finding our feet and pushing up via Lauren and Emily L and knocking on the door of Magpie’s now! At this point we found ourselves on the edge of the D where the Top Goal scorer (Liv) started where she left off by making the backboard rattle!! A well-deserved goal for the team. The 3rd quarter wasn't our best where we allowed Magpies to dominate the game and ours became a tad scrappy! Hence, we had to be rather defensive towards their two main players... at some point we found ourselves with a 2 v 1 where GK had no option but to take the player whilst the ball was slipped left, unfortunately this led to the equaliser. Finally, the fourth quarter was upon us with few words from our Covid Mascot and contributions from Maria, Emily L we went into lockdown, we fought hard, and played our game, we held our own and brought home a well-earned draw. A fantastic first post-lockdown, pre-season match for the 3s!
