W (5-1) 14/03/2020 - W3 vs Pelicans 2 (H / L) A WIN FOR BABY CARROTS |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 14/03/2020 VS PELICANS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 14/03/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 14/03/2020 HEADLINE: A win for baby carrots LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 5-1 (win) REPORT: In the first touch of the game, with one powerful swoosh to the left, the ball was smacked off the pitch by Kim Cleave but fortunately it got better! As the first half progressed, City found their feet and played some lovely long balls through to the forwards, who came close on many occasions but just could not make that back board rattle. City continued to push high and their confidence grew with each hit. City’s Emily Greenway then opened the scoring with not one but two great goals! The second half started with a much more settled City squad, who looked like they wanted the game, including some great distribution from Sally Richards and Karren Dagless, through to player of the match Emma Richardson, who commanded with lovely feeder balls for the forwards to run onto. Both Mia Edmond and Mia Moore had solid games, picking up balls and running into spaces. Marie Hood put in a great work rate too. As the second half continued, visitors Pelicans 2s had one key player up front who was yearning for the ball but it wasn’t her day. When City gave a short corner away, however, they were punished with a straight strike on target. City battled on and secured the win in style, smashing home a string of goals from deflections, taps and straight strikes. The scorers were Gabby Sharp, Olivia Greenway and Marie Hood. A great result for a lovely bunch of baby carrots!

L (2-4) 07/03/2020 - W3 vs UEA 2 (A / L) NOT OUR DAY |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 07/03/2020 VS UEA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 07/03/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 07/03/2020 HEADLINE: Not our day LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA (away) RESULT: 2-4 (loss) REPORT: With the season rapidly coming to a close, and with promotion within their grasp, City 3s were feeling optimistic as they faced UEA 2s. With both youth and experience in the squad, City started confidently. Everything from the transfers around the back, the passing in midfield and shots on goal were all working well for City in the first half, which eventually led to sisters Olivia and Emily Greenaway stepping up to each score for City. Hosts UEA then managed to score just before half time, making it 1-2. Despite having their coaches on the sideline, City started to make basic errors and couldn’t extend their advantage. UEA capitalised on this and pulled one back to make it 2-2. The game was then swinging in UEA’s favour and they were descending on City in waves, eventually scoring another two to make it 4-2. Although not the result they had wanted, City played some lovely hockey during the match but basic errors cost them. There were plenty of positives, which City will take into their next match.

City got off to an encouraging start with some excellent passing and great use of the entire pitch. After continuous hard work, the first of the Greenway sister’s three goals came from Olivia just before half-time. Play continued during an equally strong second half by City, resulting in some great runs down the wing, some lovely attacking play and two more goals. Firstly Emily Greenway deflected the ball in to make it 2-0 to the hosts, shortly followed by another goal from her sister Olivia. The Greenway hat-trick, combined with some good defensive play from the back, including a solid performance from POTM Mia Edmond, meant a clean sheet for City and a 3-0 win.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 08/02/2020 VS DISS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 08/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 08/02/2020 HEADLINE: Home win LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 3-0 (win) REPORT: Well done to the NCHC 3s for a positive result against Diss 1s. City dominated from the start, switching the ball well and creating many chances, however that vital first goal eluded them. Youthful legs up front helped City’s forwards drive the ball with purpose, and their defence stood firm whenever the opposition broke. Eventually the deadlock was broken when a good drive down the left from Gemma Sargent was finished by Liv Greenway at the right post. The second half saw more opportunities coming in thick and fast in City’s attacking D. Liv calmly slotted home her second of the day after a great first touch from an excellent ball from Emma Richardson. The victory was sealed when City finally scored a short corner, struck by player of the match Marie Hood and deflected home. A well earned win in the end.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/02/2020 VS LODDON 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/02/2020 HEADLINE: Tough away fixture LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Hobart High School (away) RESULT: 1-0 (loss) REPORT: City 3s travelled to Loddon for a hard and fast-paced game. The hosts dominated early on, but player of the match City goalkeeper Serena Scott kept them at bay. There were some well-worked passes through the middle from City’s Kim Lusher and Emma Richardson, who distributed the ball to the wings, but the visitors couldn’t finish it off. The high-energy play continued with a good second half start from City, and some lovely balls down the wings from Jenny Brine, and drives up front from Emily Leeming. Eventually the deadlock ended with a short corner conversion for Loddon. Play from the likes of Karren Dagless at the back and Karen Hobden on the wing kept City in the game, but it’s wasn’t their day and the score remained 1-0 to the hosts. Despite not bringing home three points, City remain second in the league.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 25/01/2020 VS EAST COAST 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: Another convincing win for City LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: East Coast RESULT: 1 - 5 Win REPORT: City 3s faced East coast 2s away this week. It saw City starting slow with a few scrappy passes, but they got it together and started to win a number of short corners. After a few practice runs, we eventually got the hang of the slow pitch and one of the shorts resulted in Lauren Lawrie scoring to get city on the score board 1-0 city. With some great fast pace runs from Mia Moore which lead to another short corner where Gabby Sharp was there for a great deflection. 2-0 city at half time. In the second half Liv Greenway opened up the scoring to make it 3-0 city. Some great work by the whole team led to one of many more short corners. Sally stepped up to the top of the D and took an awesome strike to make it 4-0 city. With some great defensive work by city we were unfortunate to concede a penalty stoke for East coast 2s which they converted to make it 4-1 city. Some questionable decisions from the umpire saw Keeper Anna Linsmith receiving a green card and a spell in the sin bin for challenging their decision. City stayed strong and kept the ball until they were back to 11 players. Winning yet another short corner for city saw player of the match Emma Richardson slot it home with a great left slip to end the game on 5-1 city.

City conceded a goal going in to half time but the break allowed them a rallying team talk and confirmation of tactics. It was hard work but City then extended their lead by a great penalty flick from Emma Richardson, and a fourth and final goal from Liv Greenway. City ended the last quarter playing brilliant hockey, with some strong passes at speed and accuracy, and they used the space on the wing with great effect.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 11/01/2020 VS EVERGREENS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 11/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 11/01/2020 HEADLINE: Three goals for the 3s LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams (away) RESULT: 0-3 (win) REPORT: City 3s started well against hosts Evergreens, switching the ball with confidence around the back and dominating the game. An unfortunate injury to one of the Evergreens players came early on. City then had to refocus after a period of stoppage and, having lacked a little urgency, stepped up to take the lead from a short corner, converted well by Emily Greenway. City’s second goal before half time came from a well placed shot at the top of the D from player of the match Marie Hood. The second half saw City up the work rate and compete more for the ball, continuing to work hard to shut down their competitive hosts. City’s defence also showed superb composure throughout the game. The whole team thoroughly deserved their third and final goal from another well worked short corner, where Kim Lusher slotted the ball in to Liv Greenway for her to drive the ball home. A valuable result for City, who wish the injured Evergreens player a speedy recovery.

It was a tough fixture and City started slow, feeling the strain against a very competent Magpies team, who scored four goals in the first half. To City's credit they came out of half time with gritted teeth, and some great play was seen by the likes of Emily Leeming, player of the match, and Liv Greenway. It was within just four minutes of the second half that Emily Greenway got City on the scoreboard. Marie Hood then followed up with a second goal, which really got City going. But the visitors had other plans and scored two more themselves, finishing off the scoring at 2-6 to Magpies.

Reepham were putting up a good fight and they soon scored a short corner from a very strong hit. Despite this, City pulled back, with a goal from Mia Moore, putting City 3-2 up. This was followed by a powerful flick on a penalty stroke from Emma Richardson. City’s strong press meant that Reepham struggled to get in the D, leaving the final score as 4-2 to City. Match report by player of the match Sabina Baker.

W (4-0) 30/11/2019 - W3 vs Reepham 1 (H / L) FRIENDLY FIXTURE STILL A WIN |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 30/11/2019 VS REEPHAM 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: Friendly fixture still a win Awakening early on Saturday, it was apparent that Jack Frost had been to TRF, with a glimmering top coat and crispy underfoot surface. A half-reluctant womens 3s team stepped out onto the pitch, and even Ali Wardale’s tash was glistening in the sunshine! We had a split decision whether to play or not so, just so that our lungs would burn in the cold air, we played a friendly against Reepham 1s! City were confident from the first touch of the ball and it was Emily Greenway who put the hosts ahead within just 30 seconds! Reepham did make an attempt to bang the ball back up via Danny Garwood who, as always, was their game maker. City's strategy to keep the lead was to make the ball do the work for them and save their effort for staying upright. Reepham made another counter attack and with a goalmouth scramble were awarded a penalty flick due to a foot on the line. City’s keeper and player of the match Serena Scott took her position. Both players were poised for the flick, and one push of the ball right, a dive to ground with stick extended from Serena, and the backboard failed to ring – penality flick saved! The Greenway sisters roared up the pitch for City, and some lovely passing hockey followed from Emily Spencer and Gemma Sargeant, through to Jenni Czerwinski and Kim Lusher. Great skills were also seen by Emily Leeming on the right, plus an appearance from Caroline Illing shaking a couple of moves up front. City worked hard to slot home the second goal, finished by Gabby Sharp. Now as a team we have waited all season for our equivalent of Kim Kardashian to score, and finally through a short corner her Christmas came early with a sweet straight strike at the keeper, who was blinded by the speed, and Kim Lusher was rewarded with a goal….thank god! Half time 3-0 after some solid play, just like the pitch. Shortly into the second half City’s keeper was called into action again with a one on one, cleanly taking the ball, for Gemma to then drive out the D. The visitors Reepham were still on nil. The fourth City goal started with Emily Leeming who had a beautiful run down the line with both hands on the stick sweeping the ball across into the D, finished off by Emily Greenway, to make it a 4-0 win for the hosts. Overall a good team run out.

W (9-1) 23/11/2019 - W3 vs Pelicans 2 (A / L) GOALS GALORE |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 23/11/2019 VS PELICANS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 23/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 23/11/2019 HEADLINE: Goals galore LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Lynn Sport (away) RESULT: 1-9 (win) REPORT: City started off slow, after a long drive to Kings Lynn to face Pelicans 2s. Both teams had equal possession in the first 10 minutes, but City converted first after Emily Greenway put the ball through to Emily Leeming for a deflection on goal. Shortly after the opening score, captain Kim Lusher found Jenni Czerwinski, who attacked the left side of the pitch straight into the D, scoring an impressive second goal for City. A third came from a short corner straight strike attempt from Kim Lusher, whose shot was saved straight out to player of the match Olivia Greenway, for her to push the ball through the keeper’s pads and onto the backboard. Olivia then got the next two goals in quick succession. With a few minutes left of the first half, Gabby Sharp slotted another away, making the half time score 0-6 to the visitors. Within the first few minutes of the second half, Jenni Czerwinski set up Olivia Greenway to flick the ball over the keeper into the goal. Pelicans did not give up, despite being seven goals down, making hard work for City’s midfield and defence. The hosts then sneaked a goal past Serena Scott, who deserved to have a clean sheet. Emma Richardson fed the ball to Gemma Sargent, who ran down the right and crossed the ball to Olivia Greenway on the post for another score. Gabby Sharp assisted the last goal of the game, hitting the ball from a short corner attempt, for Olivia Greenway to deflect it in for her sixth goal of the game. Final score 1-9 City.

W (4-1) 16/11/2019 - W3 vs UEA 2 (H / L) 4 GOALS FOR CITY 3S |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/11/2019 VS UEA 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/11/2019 HEADLINE: 4 goals for City 3s LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 4-2 (win) REPORT: City came out of the blocks raring to go against UEA 2s and took an early lead when a shot from Liv Greenway was tapped in by Gabby Sharp on the left post. Both teams were fighting hard, and matched each other in pace, but City were making the extra effort to get to the ball first. Marie Hood was causing havoc in the middle and making the UEA defence work very hard. City had a succession of attacks on the visitors goal, with a number of shots on target, but were saved by UEA’s competent goal keeper. Unfortunately a quick counterattack on City’s defence meant UEA were awarded a short corner and equalised just before half time. The second half started with City being on the back foot as UEA formed another attack, which lead to their second goal. City were 2-1 down but were not done. With some fantastic passing around the back by Simran Rai and Jenny Brine, City stepped up their game and were determined not to give up. The work rate increased and City were soon rewarded for their efforts when a short corner was given. A quick ball injected to Hannah Bush at the top of the D was slipped left for a shot on goal and rebounded by the keeper straight to Liv Greenway, who slotted the ball home to equalise. City were now well and truly fired up. Gemma Sargent was working tirelessly at the back to fight off any threat of attack by the UEA forwards, slipping the ball right to Emma Richardson, who was on form and putting some cracking passes down the wing to player of the match Emily Greenway. Kim Cleave and Jenni Czerwinski had some great link up play in midfield when the ball was passed wide to Emily Greenway, who drove down the right wing and into the D, passing the ball to Hannah Bush, who was perfectly positioned to slap the ball into the backboard. Shortly after, Liv Greenway found herself in space and slipping the ball wide again to her sister Emily she ran around the back, passing the ball to Jenni Czerwinski, who finished with a cracking goal to close the score at 4-2. A thoroughly well deserved win for City after a superb team performance. Massive thank you to Louis Preston for stepping in as the bench coach this week and providing some very positive encouragement from the side lines.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den (away) RESULT: 1-5 (win) REPORT: City's mighty third team stepped up to outplay hosts Dragons 4s and finish with a convincing victory. With a super squad of 16 players, City had to be on their toes and communicate effectively, which they did with increasing confidence as the match progressed. The game was evenly contested to begin with but City got into their stride, with Mia Moore eventually breaking the deadlock from a well worked short corner. Olivia Greenway scored City's second shortly after, converting a rebound from Player of the Match Marie Hood's shot. City gained a three goal lead going into half time after another short corner, calmly pushed into the back of the net on the reverse stick by Gabby Sharp. City really stepped up a gear in the second half, switching the ball well and creating space for their forwards to attack. Emily Greenway smashed a goal in the bottom corner from an excellent run and ball from Jenni Czerwinski. City's superb defence worked well together throughout and keeper Serena Scott made some great reaction saves, however the visitors were caught off guard before the end, and it was a credit to Dragons that they scored a break away goal. However, City finished strongly, with Ellie Hobden converting their third short corner of the game on the final whistle. A well earned three points, showing what depth City have in their squad. Special thanks to coaches Ali Wardale and Nick Hooper for managing to get all 16 players a good game!

City started slowly and Loddon were keen to take advantage. City's defence were tested repeatedly with a number of short corners being awarded as a result. Luckily City were able to keep Loddon from converting with goal-keeper Serena Scott taking charge. City did manage several forays of their own into the opposition D, with Gabby Sharpe and Kim Lusher linking up well on the left, but were unable to find the goal. Eventually Loddon were able to catch City on the break and, with their usual punishing accuracy, tucked the ball away in the bottom corner, putting the visitors a goal up at half time. The second half saw City up their game with slicker passing and a lot more energy. Only minutes in, Liv Greenway won the ball at the half way line and passed it to POTM, Jen Czerwinski, who found herself in acres of space on the right hand side, and drove the ball towards the Loddon D where Emily Greenway was waiting to expertly slap the ball in at the far post to even the score. End to end play continued, with defenders Gemma Sargent and Sally Richards switching the ball around the back quickly, enabling Emily Spencer and Jenny Brine to distribute the ball up the wings to the waiting forwards, who won several short corners, but were unable to convert. Emma Richardson and Carolyn Lumley worked tirelessly in the midfield as Loddon mounted on the pressure, but City matched their determination and were able to hold the score at 1-1 until the final whistle.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 4-0 REPORT: This week the womens 3s hosted East Coast 2 at home. It was a slow start but city worked hard to break the defence and made some good shots on goal. With some great passing across the back of defence to keep possession. City made some great passes and some great hits into the circle where Gabby Sharp was waiting on the post to tap in the two opening goals. City kept the pace going and dominated possession to win a few penalty corners, but unfortunately none could be converted. However with inners and forwards making some great runs, Mia Moore was able to put a third goal away for city to make it 3-0 at half time. There were a few times when East Coast broke and managed to get into the D but some great saves by keeper Anna Linsmith kept us in the game. There was some great defensive work from City, especially on the right by Gemma Sargent, who had to work hard against a dominant opposition attacker. City were putting together some great simple passes with power, which eventually led to a great through ball to Liv Greenway waiting at the top of the D to finish with a goal. Overall a great performance by City ending in a 4-0 win. Match Report provided by a well deserved Player of the Match; Emma Richardson.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 28/09/2019 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 28/09/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 28/09/2019 HEADLINE: Tough away fixture LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston (away) RESULT: 0-2 (loss) REPORT: On a blustery but bright Saturday morning, City 3s travelled to Diss to take on Harleston Magpies 4's. As expected, it was a hard and fast game. End to end play saw an exciting match for spectators but a frustrating one for the visiting team. Despite having a number of opportunities on goal, City failed to score, unlike the hosts who managed to get the only goal of the first half. City pulled up their socks and raised their game in the second half, playing hard and fast again, but so did Magpies. Again, there were plenty of shots and a few short corners but the goals remained elusive for the City 3s. Magpies cemented the win in the last minutes of the game with a strong run and hard hit at goal that was unstoppable. Despite the scoreline, City played well and have a lot of positives to take forward into the new season.

W (5-0) 21/09/2019 - W3 vs Norwich City 4 (H / L) POSITIVE START FOR NCHC 3RDS |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 21/09/2019 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 21/09/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 21/09/2019 HEADLINE: Positive start for NCHC 3rds REPORT: A beautiful day for the first league match of the season saw us take on Norwich City 4’s at home in Taverham. Always a difficult game and this week, commitments outside of hockey, meant a lack of available players and fielding two teams a challenge. The first half was fairly evenly balanced with us pressing forward at every opportunity and lots of play in their D resulted in a 2-0 score going in to half-time. After the break we came back fighting strong and looking the better team, there were plenty of shots on goal with some strong defensive work needed from the 4’s goalie. Our continuous pressing and determination with the ball resulted in another three great goals. Scorers today were Olivia Greenway, Emma Richardson, Gabby Sharp (2) and Emily Spencer. A really positive start to the opening game of the season.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 14/09/2019 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 14/09/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 14/09/2019 HEADLINE: Club spirit wins out LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: Won 2-1 REPORT: With availability issues across the club, the Womens 3s arrived at the clubhouse for their final preseason friendly with only 10 players, but after a quick ask around amongst our other teams who had already played we started the game with the full 11 plus 3 super subs! City worked hard in the heat against visitors, Dragons 3s, and were able to put together some lovely passing, making full use of the width of the pitch. Dragons opened the scoring but city fought back hard and soon equalized. End to end play continued with both teams looking dangerous on the break. City's defense were seeing off wave after wave of attacks from the hungry dragons forwards, until eventually city found a 2nd goal to win the game. Special thanks to all those who doubled up to help us out this week. Great show of club spirit! :-)
