WOMENS 1ST XI - 06/06/2021 VS ST NEOTS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 06/06/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 06/06/2021 HEADLINE: NCHC WOMENS 1S BACK IN ACTION LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 REPORT: City womens made their long awaited return to competitive hockey in the first round at the cup. City started brightly, controlling possession and the tempo, with St Neots struggling to get out of their own half. City were pressing well as a team, and using the channels to much success lead to the opening goal. Some great build up play on the right from Ella Gill and Sophie Mullan provided the opportunity for Stacey Lee to cross the ball to Krystal Bishop who flicked it over the diving goalie. Moments later Lee set up Bishop again to make it 2-0. City continued to dominate in all areas of the pitch, allowing Felicity Williams to provide us with one of her famous sliders, and a tactical deflection from Stacey allowed an unmarked Bishop to volley the ball into the net. City remained impenetrable with the defensive unit of Ella Gill, Micayla Tootill, Felicity Williams, Helen Busfield and Maddie Anthony. After another great passage of play down the right-hand channel, Olivia Williams angled a perfect ball for Krystal to deflect in from the back post. Just before half time, Niamh Campbell scored with a lovely reverse stick shot. Half Time: 5-0 Although city continue to dominant in the second half, city struggled to find the back of the net with St Neots packing their own D. Some silky skills and attacking play by Sophie Mullan, Ellie Brine and Lucy Tilbrook, provided a plethora of opportunities and short corners but St Neots kept city at bay. Final score 5-0. POTM: Krystal Bishop.

WOMENS 1ST XI - 24/04/2021 VS UEA 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 24/04/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 24/04/2021 HEADLINE: 1st XI V UEA LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: UEA RESULT: 7-0 REPORT: City travelled to the UEA for their annual fixture against the students in warm and sunny conditions. The away team started the brighter and maintained the lion share of possession, however, UEA were able to break down play and prevent City from fully clicking in the first quarter. UEA threatened with the occasional counter attacked but City made their possession count when a through hall from Jo Staines found Stacey Lee who drove into the circle beating a defender and then the on rushing goal keeper to make the score 1-0. The 2nd quarter followed much the same pattern as the first with the away side trying to get to grips with the sticky pitch and trying to keep the ball moving. This came to fruition in the final minutes of the quarter when a free flowing build up down the right hand side eventually found Rosie Ringer who’s shot hit the post. Stacey Lee was following up and took the rebound on a first time reserve stick effort to double the score going into half time. City really found their stride in the third quarter which resulted in a goal rush, 5 more in the quarter to be precise. Stacey Lee got her hatrick early in the quarter. Emily Francis injected a penalty corner and followed up well to convert from the near post. Captain Ellie Brine got involved with a well timed finished too. Two more goals where added by Stacey Lee thanks to assists from Olivia Williams and Emily Francis. UEA kept battling and struck the odd counter attack in the fourth quarter to keep goal keeper Summer Haylock on her toes. The final score was 7-0 to NCHC. Player of the match Stacey Lee.

The first half saw City win numerous short corners and eventually Harriet Preston scrambled one in from close range. The second half saw Summer in goal touch the ball once as Harriet, Maddy, Felicity and Hannah easily soaked up any rare Dragons foray into the City 25. The midfield and forwards created countless opportunities at the other end and after 4 consecutive penalty corners Ellie eventually swatted the ball home from close range after being first to a rebound off the keepers pads. The icing on the cake saw Felicity score a penalty stroke after a goal bound effort hit a foot on the line. Player of the match Niamh Campbell.

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE:Southgate HC RESULT:2-2 (flicks 4-3) REPORT: Match report vs Southgate It was the second game of the day for 7 of our girls and the opposition were very strong and had fresh legs!! We started off strong with all the possession but a quick break in play led to Southgate getting a early goal. The speed of play was intense and something we weren’t used to but after some time we quickly got use to it and got back possession and won a couple of short corners. One the the shorts led to Olivia Williams slapping the ball and scoring! With some brilliant team defence and attack we went in to HT 1-1. Second half we started off how we finished and with legs getting more and more tired we started to play some beautiful passing hockey. The ball was crossed into the D and Stacey skilled a player and snuck the ball into the gaol!!! After once again some brilliant team work and Summer keeping us in the game with some brilliant saves, they scored a goal. This then ended the game 2-2! This then led to flicks which was a close encounter and a dramatic one! Sadly we lost on them but we were brilliant. Ella Gill

WOMENS 1ST XI - 05/12/2020 VS SUDBURY 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 05/12/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 05/12/2020 HEADLINE: A game of two halves... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Home RESULT: 5-1 REPORT: After 4 weeks off and one training session we started off quite slow...Early on in the game we had all the possession and after not coming out of their half one break of play and a quick goal scored by the oppo. This was to no surprise as we had a slight shift in formation as some of the back line weren't there. Flic and Ella stepped into the big shoes of Suze and got grips with it and the back four were very strong. We were having loads of shots at the goal but some slipping just wide by the forwards, Oli and Stacey were skilling most of the back line and providing some great chances and we knew a goal had to be soon. But after a very agile goaley led to half time being 1-0 down. After Pies gave us a lovely half time talk saying the score doesn't reflect our play, the 4 weeks off had been shaken off and we were on fire. After Oli slotted the first and second goal in there was no stopping City. Shortly followed after Flic got a bit jealous of Oli so Flic by name flick by nature finished off a flick to make it 3-1. Then our short corners after no practice were unstoppable with a goal with some Stacey special once or twice led to a goal from Krystal. To finish the game we tactically... gave away a short corner and after the defensive got the ball out we went up the left side of the pitch and did a wonderful goal just for pies. Final score 5-1 POTM: Ella Gill

WOMENS 1ST XI - 31/10/2020 VS WATTON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Pre Lockdown win for the Women's 1s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: We knew Watton were going to be a physical team, but sadly Sophie Mullan got the worst of it! First half we were feeling a bit of the pressure from Watton but we won a free hit outside the 25 which gave Flic the perfect slide pass into Oli who deflected it in to make it a Williams goal. As we gained our confidence we were applying lots of pressure in their half, but Watton did have one player high which kept Suzy busy at the back. We kept applying pressure then won a short corner which allowed a lovely deflection from Krystal, which took us to 2-0. Half time came and we had a brilliant start to the second half, our forwards set a brilliant press which forced Watton to make errors. Another goal came from a short corner, which allowed Krystal to keep her goals ticking over, as she banged it in. Watton had a break in play and won themselves a short corner and got one goal back, but Stacey took on the whole of their defensive back line and got a corker of a goal and smashed it bottom corner. We kept the pressure high and tried to play to the umpires decisions and finished the game strongly winning 4-1 before lockdown.

WOMENS 1ST XI - 24/10/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 24/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 24/10/2020 HEADLINE: Neck to neck LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Culford School RESULT: 3-2 REPORT: City new Bury we’re going to be a tough match following their previous results and the match showed it, 70 minutes of determination from both sides. City were off to a tricky start with Ella Gill injured in the first 30 seconds and six of their usual squad unavailable to play that week meant they only had two subs. That said, it didn’t take long for Stacey Lee to find the back of the net! Some excellent movement up the wings from Harriet Preston and Alice Gill put pressure on Bury’s defence. City scored their second goal from a classy short corner routine with Alice sliding in to deflect a classic Flic Williams pass in, so classy! Bury had some skilful forward players who they left high and which meant City were reliant on their legs to get back and defend on the break, hard work for the midfield players. Hannah N remained calm and collected at the back with support from Hannah Jarvis, Flic, Ella, Harriet and Sophie Mullan and superb keeping from Summer H Bury had a hard time but managed to find the net twice. Neck and neck City didn’t give up and The forward Line up, Rosie Ringer, Ellie Brine, Oli Williams, Emily Francis and Stacey Lee were causing mayhem with excellent runs, movement, dummies and determination. Stacey Lee once again, quick footed, decisive and with only one thing in mind brought the score to 3-2 for City. A hard fought match, some injuries and a whole lot of hockey and City keep their spot at top of the league! Pom: Sophie Mullan

W (7-0) 17/10/2020 - W1 vs Cambridge South 1 (H / L) FOUR FROM FOUR FOR CITY AT HOME. |

WOMENS 1ST XI - 17/10/2020 VS CAMBRIDGE SOUTH 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 17/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 17/10/2020 HEADLINE: Four from four for City at home. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: HOME RESULT: 7-0 REPORT: Norwich City faced Cambridge South at home, it was as usual a bit rainy for the warm up. City current league leaders went into the match hoping to maintain their unbeaten run and increase their goal difference. Cambridge South were an unknown team holding 2 wins from 3 games. Thanks to Joby for videoing the game for us, we look forward to watching it back. There was a good crowd of supporters at the club (socially distanced of course) as the womens 2s had played before (and won!) and the men’s 1s were waiting to go on after (and win!). The first 20 minutes were played at a high intensity and City took an early lead after winning a short corner. The drag out went wide of the stick stopper Jo who instead picked the ball up strong and flicked it goal-ward for the first score of the match. The second goal came from Ellie Brine. The third was scored by Krystal with the assist from Stacey. The fourth was a reverse shot between the goalies legs by Stacey. The 5th and 6th were both Krystal. Krystal scored 3 fantastic goals and received POM nominations for this, she remains W1s top goal scorer with 14 to her name. All the City forwards put in a shift with some great runs and skills shown by Oli and Rosie. Flic, Micayla and Suze played fantastically at centre back stepping forward and distributing the ball well. Stacey’s characteristic skills drew compliments from the opposition and she fired home a well deserved final goal of the match, taking her season total so far to 6. There was lots of end to end play with City playing a more attacking formation and working hard to get back and defend when Cambridge South broke, half backs Hannah, Harriet and Ella put in good shifts up and down the line - check Strava for Harriet’s stats. The midfield comprised of Sophie, Jo and Alice worked hard to both move the ball forward and track back in defence. Jo received POM this week for interceptions and workfare in the middle. City although they conceded a few defensive short corners defended them well after some reinforcement in training and kept a clean sheet thanks to GK Milly Hyatt. Cambridge South were a competitive team who played with good sportsmanship throughout. Pies commented that at times we made things hard for ourselves, there’s always more to work on! Thank you to Caroline and Alan for umpiring. Final score: 7-0 League position: top, 12 points, GD of +27

WOMENS 1ST XI - 10/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: City 1s Derby at Dereham LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: DEREHAM RESULT: 5-1 REPORT: City arrived in good spirits despite the heavy rain raring to go and after a lively warm up the game began. The first 30 seconds wasn't our finest and we conceeded the first goal of the game. However, after after some brilliant passing and work rate from all players up the pitch, we turned the game around and were rewarded with a short corner. A well rehearsed routine from Felicity Williams and Alice Gill who managed to deflect it into the top corner of the goal, score 1-1. We picked up our play once again and took advantage of great turn overs and steals of the ball from the players at the back, and were continuing to penetrate the attacking circle where the midfield were working hard to create chances for forwards and after some near misses Alice Gill managed to slip it in to make it 2-1 at half time. After a motivational talk at half time we began the second half fighting and Dereham were too, the battle continued which resulted in another short corner, Ellie managed to slap it into the back of the goal, 3-1. We soon got into the swing of things and every single Norwich player was on top form passing the ball around the opposition brilliantly. Towards the end of the game Flic passed a quick ball from our defending D to Krystal into our attacking 25 who then slipped it to Oli on the back post who put it away with ease, 4-1. Dereham never gave up, but with another great attack from Norwich where the Dereham player stopped the ball on the line with her foot we were rewarded a penalty flick. Taken by Felicity Williams who put it top bin. 5-1 Norwich which ended the game perfectly. Man of the match - Alice Gill.

WOMENS 1ST XI - 03/10/2020 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Norwich City Women’s 1s winning start to Div 1N continues LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 WIN REPORT: Following a delayed start due to a lack of umpire (thanks Joe for standing in!) City struggled to get into their usual flow and linking play. Peterborough 2s were keen from the start and were not going to let us run the show. They made City work hard for the first 15 minutes however City’s defensive unit made up of Hannah Jarvis, Micayla Tootill, Susie Edwards and Harriet Preston kept Peterborough at bay with some solid tackling and timely interceptions helped by goalkeeper Summer Haylocks continuous communication. Norwich’s midfielders and forwards knuckled down and worked hard to push the play back into Peterboroughs 25 and soon won City’s first short corner. Oli Williams pulled out her drag flick piece but couldn’t quite complete. City’s first goal came soon after from a sneaky Krystal Bishop interception, casually stealing the ball from a Peterborough defender at their 16 with a lovely reverse take and slotted home, 1-0 Norwich City. City’s second goal came from some excellent midfield and forward work. The tirelessly working midfield line of Felicity Williams, Alice Gill, Jo Staines, Sophie Mullan and Ellie Brine linked well with some skillful hockey leading to a textbook finish from Oli Williams, 2-0. City started the second half in control having upper the tempo and settled into their stride. City’s forward line (Rosie Ringer, Stacey Lee, Oli Williams and Krystal Bishop) continued to press hard putting pressure on Peterborough’s defense leading to City’s third goal. A well practiced short corner routine - a strong and precise ball in from Felicity Williams finished with an Ellie Brine deflection, 3-0. Peterborough pushed players high looking for a break up the pitch however City weren’t letting them thorough. Great midfield hassling and strength from Alice Gill and Sophie Mullan kept City camped in Peterborough’s half. Another City short corner with Krystal Bishop firing the ball across the D to waiting City players, ball stopped by Oli Williams and finished by Micayla Tootill with a strong reverse stick sweep, 4-0. Credit to Peterborough who continued to attack and forced City to concede a short corner. City made light work of this turning the ball over quickly as they so often do. Play was pushed back up the pitch with some great linking play from the back which led to City’s fifth goal. A great finish from Stacey Lee assisted from Oli Williams via Felicity Williams and Jo Staines. Solid team effort. POM - Susie Edwards

City started strong with great intensity but they weren’t quite linking up. 10 minutes in and Jo Staines put away City’s first goal. City started to relax and work together to create lots more chances. A selfless pass across goal from Olivia Williams saw Ellie Brine her first goal. Sophie Mullan scored City’s next goal with a hit into the top corner. Olivia Williams followed up with two more goals before half time. 5-0 City continued to work hard in the second half, a rebound off the keeper saw Ellie Brine score her second. Great skill around the defender and strike from Stacey Lee scored City their 7th goal. Recently being back from injury didn’t stop Lee as she scored her second shortly after. After a few narrow misses, Rosie Ringer was determined to put one away with a strike into the corner, scoring City’s ninth goal. A quick interception was followed up by a goal for Alice Gill, 10-0. Only a few minutes to go and Ellie Brine won a penalty flic, taken (and nicely slotted away) by Felicity Williams. Final score 11-0 Player of the match Felicity Williams

WOMENS 1ST XI - 19/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Norwich City womens 1’s against Magpies 2’s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE:Magpies RESULT:3-2 L REPORT: Norwich City travelled to Magpies for the last of their pre-season games. The team were feeling positive after a strong win last time but conscious they were travelling away and Magpies may have more availability as they were playing at home. Magpies had a strong start, leaving City no time to settle and shortly finding the back of the net. With the sun shining City were not going to be thrown by this. The game continued but unfortunately due to several poor tackles across the pitch, someone soon had to take a card …. Ellie Brine shortly finding herself off the pitch. Despite this, the game continued but the umpires were up for no nonsense… Sophie Mullan then finding herself off the pitch. Magpies scored again but City remained determined and with some excellent movement, both on and off the ball and some well-placed weighted balls forward, Cities first goal came. Magpies led with a 2-1 lead at half time and with both teams preparing for new seasons ahead, the second half continued with clear determination. The umpires remained set on carding to try maintain the standard of play and Magpies too suffered a few casualties: safe to say this was a game no player wanted to be off the pitch during. City held control during the second half, keeping Magpies out of the 23 for much of the second half with some excellent play from Hannah Jarvis in defence and fiery movement from Krystal Bishop who had some tricky defensive players to navigate up front. Despite their hard work, and in a very back and forth game, Magpies took the win at their home ground 3-2. A great pre-season match ahead of the new season!

WOMENS 1ST XI - 12/09/2020 VS IES 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: City Smash Another Pre-Season Friendly LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 6-1 REPORT: City started strong from the off with great pressure from the front and relentless hassling from midfielders Lucy Tilbrook and Alice Gill. Only 3 minutes after the whistle and an interception and ball across the goal from Ellie Brine set Krystal Bishop up for goal number one. Great communication from goal keeper Summer Haylock helped defenders pick up loose players and prevent any dangerous attacks from IES. Micayla Tootill fired the ball from a 16 to Felicity Williams who threw the ball across the D, over the defenders sticks for Olivia Williams to deflect mid-air into the goal, 2-0. Despite the blazing sunshine City kept the intensity up but IES were still keen to come back and managed to win a short corner. Luckily their drag flick narrowly missed the goal and City were quick to react. Teamwork across the pitch created further chances for City and a reserve stick interception from Alice Gill set up Ellie Brine for a one-on-one with the keeper. Brine chipped the ball over the sliding keeper into the top corner making the score 3-0 before half time. IES’s hopes of a come back were falling short as defenders Hannah Jarvis and Pui Fong Chung were stepping in front of any through balls to their high forwards. A brave save on the line from Suzy Edwards also helped maintain City’s clean sheet. A quick ball out from Felicity Williams found Krystal Bishop. Another one-on-one wasn’t looking good for the opposition keeper as Bishop wound up for a clean hit into the bottom corner. 4-0. Some excellent defending and a stylish one-two out of the corner from forwards Olivia Williams and Krystal Bishop set Bishop up for her hat trick, 5-0. City’s 6th and final goal started with a great free hit win from Jo Staines and a lovey ball into the D from Harriet Preston. Bishop (surprise surprise!) was the one to finish with a reverse sweep into the corner. 8 minutes to go and City had finally tired, a scramble at the top of the D and a ball through to a player on the post found IES a sneaky last minute goal. Final score 6-1. Player of the match Ellie Brine.

After a nervy start by both sides within the first quarter it was City who took the lead following an excellent bit of umpiring by David White playing advantage of a UEA foot to allow Olivia Williams to fire into the net for the opening goal. City made it 2-0 minutes later when a ball fired into the path of Rosie Ringer was deflected into the path of an unmarked Krystal Bishop who volleyed into the goal. 2-0 Into the 2nd quarter and UEA had their best spell of the game putting pressure on the City backline and winning a couple of penalty corners however the City defense held strong. City were always dangerous however on the break and an excellent reverse stick cross by Krystal Bishop was tapped home by Ellie Brine as City made it 3-0. It was 4-0 before the break when Krystal Bishop fired a low shot into the goal. HT: 4-0 City came out of the blocks fast into the second half and created some great chances going forward before Felicity Williams added goal number 5 with a low finish into the bottom corner. 5 became 6 soon after when a determined run from Lucy Tilbrook set up Krystal Bishop for her hattrick. UEA then had another strong spell putting pressure on the City backline but failed to create any clear chances, as Micayla Tootill made them pay with a thunderous low strike into the bottom corner from a penalty corner. Into the final quarter and City kept hassling and pressuring the UEA backline. City made it 8-0 through another short corner routine as Rosie Ringer tapped home on the post. UEA never gave up and battled hard against a rampant City side but in the final 5 minutes Krystal Bishop added her fourth and City's ninth and in the last minute Ellie Brine scored her 2nd from a well worked penalty corner routine. Full Time 10-0

This led to quick turnover ball pass leading to a swift counter and the award of a penalty corner which was dispatched into the corner of the goal by Mikalya. The defence benefitted from the higher line and a fine tackle from Jo and surging run from Fongy led to Olivia adding a second. Norwich created space playing the ball around the back and a beautiful team move saw Niamh thread a defence splitting reverse stick pass to Olivia who unselfishly squared the ball to Ellie to cap a fine display with a 3rd goal.
