WOMENS 3RD XI - 26/03/2022 VS EVERGREENS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 26/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 26/03/2022 HEADLINE: Last match of the season! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: WON 5-0 REPORT: NCHC W3's turned up to play their last match of the season on an unusually sunny & hot Saturday. With a large squad selected, ready to go & continue their winning streak. Pre-match energy was high & that morale continued into the start of the match. L3s started strong, key communication & team play were apparent despite the unusually high temperature (not that we complained). Despite this, L3s kept their structure & determination which led to Mollae Scott driving the ball up the left-wing & finishing it off in particular class & style into the back of the goal. 1-0 up to City. Hard continuous work from the defensive Serena Scott, Gem Sargent, Gillian Allen & Jenny Brine kept Evergreens from having shots on goal or entering the D. A tiring half of attacking & numerous attacking short corners & shots on goal. However, the scoreline remained 1 - 0 to City as the half time whistle went. A motivating team talk from Captain Ali Wardale, Coachess Longy & Captain Claire reminded City to play our game & not to let the opposition affect how we play. Spirits rose as we went out into the second half. City started as they meant to go on. Strong attacking play from Claire Snelling, Caroline Illing & Hollie Joyce allowed possession from City leading to the second goal. Both teams heard a whistle however it wasn't from our pitch, El Jarvis drove the ball into the D, putting the ball past the keeper into the back of the goal. 2 - 0 to CITY. Determination continued, strong work ethic from Marie Hood & Emma Richardson kept the central of the team strong. Hollie Joyce completed a spectacular run into the D however was unfortunately stopped by Evergreens leading the umpires to award City with a flick. Emma Richardson stepped up to the challenge & firmly put the ball in the goal, no doubt from any members of the team that would happen, 'Queen of Flicks'. 3-0 to CITY. City were on a roll whilst being well supported by the Womens 2s & other spectators on the sideline. Perserverance from Mollae Scott & Hollie Joyce showed with both doing spectacular runs & using impressive stick skills to each being awarded a goal each before the final whistle blew. The final score was 5 - 0 to City. This win ensured that NCHC W3s has a chance of promotion being the strongest second-placed team. Celebrations all around for such an amazing finish to the season.

However, it led to a penalty flick for City. Emma stood up to the challenge of a penalty flick & expertly slotted the ball into the back of the goal! 3-1 to CITY. Another week & another win for City. 4 - 1 to CITY. Congratulations to POTM El & thank you to Coachess Longy for her expertise and running the bench.

From the off, City dominated the game with multiple attacks in the oppositions D and were quickly able to convert when Emily Greenway (Player of the match) slotted the ball behind the keeper to score the opening goal. Soon after, Vicki Myhill found herself in acres of space and calmly drove the ball into the D and with a hard accurate shot fired the ball into the goal. Broadland’s attempts to break through City’s defence proved unsuccessful as full backs Gemma Sargent and Gillian Allen stood their ground and managed to keep any real threats at bay with some great passing around the back distributing the ball out to the wingers. Sue Tomlinson worked hard and put some fantastic passes down the right wing onto the stick of Emily Greenway who was able to beat her defender to the byline and crossed the ball to the left post to find Mollae Scott who tapped the ball into the goal. Just before half time City converted again when Mollae Scott returned the favour crossing the ball in from the left where Emily Greenway ran in onto the right post to pop it past the keeper again making it 4-0 on the half time whistle. A great team talk from Ali Wardale at half time inspired City to keep up the pace and the second half proved to be just as productive. Emma Richardson, as usual was on top form and competently distributed the ball from her crucial centre half position to find Hannah Sangar at the top of the D. Hannah controlled the ball and with her reverse stick lifted the ball over the top of the keeper and into the roof of the net to score an epic goal which left her teammates in awe!! Claire Snelling provided some great passes into the D assisting the attackers and Broadland found themselves outnumbered again when Vicki Myhill came up from her half back position to aid the attack, found a great spot at the top left of the D to knock it past the keeper scoring her second goal of the game. Broadland managed to find some space and led a convincing counter attack into City’s D, upgrading the ball onto a defenders foot and were awarded with a short corner which they scored from. A free hit gained City access in Broadland territory once again and were awarded a short corner. The ball was passed out to the top of the D and slipped left to Emma Richardson who skilfully drag flicked the ball into the net. City dominated the play from the outset, setting up multiple shots on goal through constructive play. A short corner was won after a flick shot from Ellie Alderton was deflected off a defenders body. This allowed city to utilize their new short corner routines. Although well executed, city were unable to convert. A strong press made it difficult for Reepham to mount any significant attacks. A stunning shot from Felicity Williams hit the backboard before half time leaving city 1-0 up. The second half began again with city playing their hockey, utilizing the passes around the back four to maintain possession. Reepham challenged hard this half pressing the D, but the excellent skills of Gemma Sargent, Karen Dagless, Uma Patel and Gillian Allen (POTM) meant that no real threatening shots on goal were made. The final quarter saw consistent pressure from city, mounting attack after attack with some great injections into the D coming from both left and right, however, when the whistle went for full time the score still lay at 1-0 to city. A lot of positivity throughout the game (as well as fireworks) helped city really find and play their game, leading to the win. Here’s to next Saturday!

WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/10/2021 VS UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: A fiery draw LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: A squad of twelve met at UEA Sportspark ready to find our game of hockey from the first whistle. A strong constructive attack on the UEA 'D' led to a short pass in front of the keeper from Claire Snelling to find Ellie Alderton who back stick flicked the ball over the keeper who had gone to ground. The ball found the backboard and City were 1-0 up. UEA were fired up and pressurised the attacking 'D', but were thwarted by some fantastic saves from Serena Scott and consistent excellent defending from Gillian Allen, Gemma Sargent and Karen Dagless. After a positive team talk at half time, L3’s came out fighting, but an attack from UEA found the back board and the score was levelled at 1-1. Undeterred City came back fighting winning numerous short corners and chances, including some epic flicks from Hollie Joyce and great insertions into the D by Claire Snelling and Lily Couborough. At the other end of the pitch a flick was given and found the back of the goal; UEA took the lead at 2-1. With a fire in city’s belly, and the attacks came thick and fast leading to a short corner being awarded. The routine worked seamlessly with a clean injection from Ellie Alderton, received by Gemma Sargent, passed wide to Hollie Joyce and laid off to Marie Hood who slammed the ball into the bottom corner. 2-2. PTOM Lily Couborough for determined, consistent and committed play!

L (2-3) 09/10/2021 - W3 vs Loddon 1 (H / L) A GAME OF TWO HALVES |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 09/10/2021 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: A game of two halves LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-3 REPORT: The match had an interesting start, with the Loddon goalkeeper going to the wrong ground, forcing them to start with 10 on field players and no keeper! Despite strong attempts to exploit this advantage, City could not break their way through the Loddon defence. Loddon came back on the attack strongly, exploiting the fact the City were taking their time to get into their usual groove. Two goals were scored in quick succession with a third deflection heading into the top corner. Now City, instead of letting their heads fall, stepped up and began to play their hockey – a real credit to the team and attitude. From this point onwards City dominated play with some exceptional distribution through the middle of the pitch from Emma Richardson, opening up the play down the wings, allowing Ellie Alderton, Lucy McNarry and Emily Greenway to mount some excellent passing attacks down the left. A short corner was won and, after an excellent injection from Hollie Joyce the ball found the back of the net thanks to one of Emma Richardson’s epic drag flicks. City were well and truly back in the game. After a positive and constructive team talk at half time, City returned to the field pumped and focused. Communication was steady and clear enabling us to mount attack after attack on Loddon's 'D' winning short corner after short corner. City passed the ball with commitment and strength making Loddon work hard to get possession. With seven minutes to go, a scramble in the 'D' enabled Ellie Alderton to put a reverse stick goal in the bottom left hand corner bringing the score to 3-2. POTM was deservedly won by Emma Richardson whose strength and composure in the middle of the field was exceptional this week.

W (5-0) 18/09/2021 - W3 vs Carrow 1 (H / L) A FANTASTIC START TO THE BID FOR PROMOTION! |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 18/09/2021 VS CARROW 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A fantastic start to the bid for promotion! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 REPORT: NCHC Womens 3 V’s Carrow 1 TRF H20 18.09.21 10am A fantastic start to the bid for promotion! Another early start for L3’s saw warm weather greet us at TRF. With our bid for promotion at the front of our minds, the 3’s were determined to make an impression from the outset. However, our start proved to be rocky, with a bouncy pitch and lack of formation meaning we were not at our best. However, as seems to be the pattern with L3’s, after the first fifteen minutes on the pitch we found our shape and began to press hard and consistently on the oppositions D. Finding our voices, the 3’s began to communicate and play our hockey, utilizing the wings, creating spaces and strong attacking play which culminated in a stunning goal by Emma Richardson from a short corner, (keeping up her scoring streak) which ending in the top right hand corner. We finished the first half 1-0 up. A constructive team talk was had at half time led by captain Gemma Sargent, encouraging simple play, talking, and playing our positive kind of hockey. The second half saw L3’s come out hard with new, renewed energy and drive resulting in multiple attacks on the D resulting in a number of chances. A scrappy attack on goal by Mollae Scott and Ellie Alderton led to a short corner being awarded. A firm injection by new player Hollie Joyce was received by Claire Snelling, slipped left to Ellie Alderton who put a very bouncy ball into the bottom left-hand corner! 2-0 (a goal is a goal). Marie Hood led several powerful drives towards the D, whilst the passing in the attacking 23 meant that the pressure on the goal was consistent. Accompanied by a well-organized press, Carrow found it hard to get through to their midfield. Hood’s consistent attacking pressure led her to score a third powerful strike off a deflection past the Carrow keeper on the right side. Another short corner was won, slipped left, and hit home by Ellie Alderton making 4 and was soon followed by a spectacular shot from the right by Emily Greenway. A spectacular way to finish at 5-0! All in all, after a slow start this match left the squad feeling confident and positive moving forward into next weeks game. Aware we need to work on consistency and form at training but firm in the knowledge that this will come as the season progresses. Well done all! PTOM was Mollae Scott, well deserved due to consistent pressure on the forward line, unwaning running and active play

W (1-0) 15/09/2021 - W3 vs UEA 2 (A / F) LOCAL AWAY DAY |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 15/09/2021 VS UEA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 15/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 15/09/2021 HEADLINE: Local Away Day LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: A squad of twelve met at UEA Sportspark ready to find our game of hockey from the first whistle. It was obvious from the outset that the L3’s were starting to gel and work together as a squad, passing well, utilizing the wings, triangle passes and switching through the back three with strong consistency. L3’s fitness shone through, beating UEA youngsters to the ball, and winning 90% of tackles. Our analysis of the UEA play coming mainly down the middle proved to be correct, enabling L3’s to play the ball down the wings creating chances and maintaining possession. A strong constructive attack on the UEA D led to a short pass in front of the keeper from Claire Snelling to find Ellie Alderton who back stick flicked the ball over the keeper who had gone to ground. The ball found the backboard and City were 1-0 up. UEA were fired up and pressurized the attacking D, but were thwarted by some fantastic saves from Serena Scott and consistent excellent defending from Gillian Allen, Gemma Sargent and Karen Dagless. After a positive team talk at half time, L3’s came out fighting, but, a messy attack from UEA found the back of the net and the score was levelled at 1-1. Undeterred City came back fighting winning numerous short corners and chances, including some epic flicks from Hollie Joyce and great insertions into the D by Claire Snelling and Lily Couborough. At the other end of the pitch a flick was given and found the back of the net, however, there was contention due to the player taking a double step. The goal was upheld, and UEA took the lead at 2-1. As we have come to realise, this kind of scoreline only puts fire in city’s belly, and the attacks came thick and fast leading to a short corner being awarded. The routine worked seemlessly with a clean injection from Ellie Alderton, received by Gemma Sargent, laid off to Marie Hood who slammed the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. 2-2. There was a lot to take away from this game, some positive consistent play with communication and skill from all players. A real squad effort. Special mention and thanks to Nathan xxxxxx who came to support us and coach from the sidelines – it made so much difference!

W (1-0) 11/09/2021 - W3 vs Dereham 2 (H / F) BRING ON THE LEAGUE |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 11/09/2021 VS DEREHAM 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 11/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 11/09/2021 HEADLINE: Bring on the league LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: An early Saturday morning meet saw the L3's meet at TRF in good spirits, looking forward to the game. Introductions were made as both new and established members of the team are still getting to know each other! This aside, NCHC came out hard and focussed on the whistle. The dereham play was frenetic, but NCHC gathered themselves, stayed focussed and calm and it was clear we were the stronger squad by the end of the first quarter. The quarter saw a fantastic attack down the right, with an excellent pass hit home by Claire Snelling. The second quarter saw a number of short corners won by NCHC, one of which struck the backboard with a bang delivered in the form of an amazing drag flick from Emma Richardson. Sadly, it was disallowed, but showed form and the capacity we have to convert corners. We just need more practise! This quarter also saw us apply an excellent attacking press which scuppered the opposition again and again! The second half was dominated by NCHC with some amazing play down the wings and well considered play from the attackers creating space and a number of opportunities in the D. The defense were kept on their toes with a couple of corners, but each time proved impenetrable thanks to the defense and Summer Haylock in goal. NCHC found their shape and their voices, talking well, communicating and supporting eachother with positive reinforcement. As the final whistle blew, although NCHC were elated by the win, it was hightened further by what the season will hold once we have played together more and truly united as a team. BRING ON THE LEAGUE!!!
