Youth Hockey

Welcome to the Youth Section of Norwich City Hockey Club!

Norwich City is very proud of its thriving Youth Section which provides great hockey coaching to young players from five to eighteen in a safe and enjoyable environment. We aim to help our players develop their hockey skills within a welcoming and vibrant community.

We have over 200 members in the Youth Section, supported by a large group of dedicated volunteers, including over 20 qualified coaches.   The Section is formed of two main Groups:

• The Mini Section caters for Under 12s (i.e. School Years up to and including Year 7) and trains on Sunday Mornings.  We maintain a high coach to children ratio to ensure all players get the attention they need.

• The Junior Section, for School Years 8 and upwards, trains during the week and aims to help young players transition smoothly to adult hockey.  Those in Years 8 and 9 train with the Boys and Girls Development Squads, whilst the older players are integrated into the Adult Squads.

Members are welcome no matter their age, experience or ability.  Most  of our young players join as complete beginners and some will progress to play for Norfolk, the East Region or even England! This year, over 30 of our Juniors were selected to play for County or higher.

In the Youth Section, we aim to give as many young players as possible the chance to play in competitive games.   We have a great track record: in recent seasons both the U14 Girls and Boys were Regional Champions in the England Hockey U14 Cup, with the Boys reaching the National Finals. We have also been crowned  Norfolk Champions in the Boys Development League, U12 Boys, U12 Girls and U10 Girls competitions over the past few seasons.

We believe that it is our focus on making hockey enjoyable and inclusive that has driven our success and the continued growth of our Youth section.
