WOMENS 1ST XI - 25/09/2021 VS CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: City back on form LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Wilberforce Road RESULT: 2-3 REPORT: City travelled to Cambridge on Saturday for their first away game of the season against Cambridge University Women's 1st team. After a thorough warm up on the athletics track with more touches on the track than on the pitch City were eager to start. They began strongly, with Krystal Bishop, Olivia Williams and Stacey Lee applying high pressure to Cambridge and penetrating the circle on many occasions. But, Cambridge fought strongly and used the middle channel to penetrate the 'D', the ball was cleared to the edge where Cambridge took a shot and scored. However, City kept their heads up and bounced back quickly. Threading balls through Lucy Tilbrook, Helen Busfield, and Jocasta Staines up the wings where Rosie Ringer and the forwards were waiting. Krystal Bishop was given the ball on the baseline and scored the equaliser. However, Cambridge university came back hard and pressed high, Pui Foung Chung and Harriet Preston defended the wings and cleared balls on both sides of the pitch. Unfortunately the ball slid through to the top of the 'D', a couple of stick tackles led to a penalty flick being given. POTM Summer Haylock set herself in goal to face the flick, calm and composed she made an excellent save with her right foot. Giving herself and the team a big confidence boost. City used this confidence to keep up their intensity through Felicity Williams and Sophie Mullan from the spine of the pitch. A penalty corner was won, the ball was given to Felicity Williams who slid it across the front of goal for a waiting Olivia Williams to get a deflection bringing the score to 2-1. City stayed strong towards the end of the first half, however a small wobble led to another unfortunate goal. At half time the score was 2-2. Coach Pies, half time talk uplifted the team and prepared them for battle in the second half. City were playing excellently together, creating passing triangles and keeping possession. They created great scoring opportunities including a near miss after some clever play by Niamh Campbell and a disallowed penalty corner goal. But, City's hard work paid off and an amazing team goal was scored as Olivia Williams squared the ball to Krystal Bishop who scored her second of the game. City were then on the defense, eager to hold onto their well-deserved lead. Led by Summer Haylock at the back, Micayla Tootill and Hannah Nunn commanded the defense nicking the ball time and time again. Hannah Jarvis neatly played the ball up the wing as city pressed for the final minutes of the game. Cambridge tried their hardest but there was no way they could make it past the iron clad defense of Norwich City. The final score was 3-2 to City. A well deserved win saw City awarded their first points within the league. They are raring to go and play CoP next weekend.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 25/09/2021 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: Another Win for City 2’s! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE:Taverham RESULT:3-0 Win REPORT: City took to the pitch eager to continue their storming start to this season's campaign. With the humidity high, we knew it would be a game where hardwork and resilience would triumph. From the off, City put pressure on Broadband. Great stick work from the forward line of Milly Brown, Mia Moore, Emma Hewitt, Grace Hanworth-Knights and Rosie Humphrey, saw many corners awarded. However, City were unable to capitalise. Broadland's defence remained inpenteratable until the the closing minutes of the first half when Dani Sizer released a quick free hit to the top of the circle to find Emma Hewitt who smashed the ball home, 1-0. City were finding space in the attacking circle hard to come by, being camped in Broadland's half. However, the midfield of Georgia Cleveland, Hanna Hall and Emily Francis moved the ball confidently around the attacking circle edge, patiently waiting for an opening. A searching cross into the circle saw Rosie Humphrey pounce, firing the ball home and increasing City's lead. Broadland seemed determined to catch City on the break, but City's defensive line of Lucy Walton, Leigh-Ann Worrall and Sally Rose cooly saw to it that any Broadland advance was quickly terminated. Keeper Georgina Barratt remained switched on to Broadland's threat on the break, smothering some strong shots to keep her clean sheet in tact. Keeping up the pressure on Broadland's defence, City scored a third as Mia confidently pushed the ball home from Grace's shot. An amazing team performance to break through Broadland's strong defence.

W (3-1) 25/09/2021 - W6 vs Norwich City 7 (A / L) CITY CLUBS BATTLE IT OUT IN THE HEAT |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 25/09/2021 VS NORWICH CITY 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: City Clubs Battle It Out In The Heat LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: The unexpected September heat, which saw the temperature top 22 degrees, made this mid-morning match tough for both teams. City 6s, in the club’s red away shirts, had most possession of the ball but were unable to find the net for that initial goal. A strong defensive effort from City 7s repelled most of several short corners awarded to the 6s. However, eventually Liz Hollis tucked a reverse stick shot into the left corner of the goal, just evading the keeper’s foot. A second goal followed from right midfielder Esme Abbott, bringing a fitting end to several impressive runs from halfway to the attacking D that earned her player of the match. The goal came after a baseline run by Esme, finished off with a powerful push to slot the ball into the far right hand corner of the net. The first half finished with the 6s two nil up. In the second half, the 7s fought hard to keep the 6s away from their net, with several notable saves from their goalie Jess Westbury. Finally, 6s right wing Louisa Sizeland managed to find space behind the keeper and slot in a third goal. By this time the sixes were flagging more than they usually would on match day, due to several players feeling under the weather because they were still recovering from the effects of a conventional cold that hit the team last week as we discovered that other viruses apart from covid are available! Another member of the team was struggling with the effects of asthma thanks to the unusually muggy heat. It felt like one of those matches where everybody is longing for the final whistle. The 7s continued to battle right to the end, winning a run of short corners and finally converting one into a goal to make the final score 1-3 to NCHC 6s.

There was excellent hockey played by the Womens 7s who really came into their own in the second half, culminating in Katie Smith scoring. W (3-0) 25/09/2021 - M1 vs Chelmsford 1 (H / L) 2 GAMES, 2 WINS, 2 CLEAN SHEETS FOR MEN'S 1S |

MENS 1ST XI - 25/09/2021 VS CHELMSFORD 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: 2 Games, 2 Wins, 2 Clean Sheets for Men's 1s LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-0 Win REPORT: After last week's perfect start to the season we came into our first home game with great expectations of another victory against a team we're very familiar with having played them 4 times in the last year. Things started well with Chelmsford not touching the ball for the first 4 and a half minutes. This frustrated them so much that they decided to pretend to have a kit malfunction to have a tactical break for a minute and then continue to not change anything and us to continue to dominate possession for the foreseeable. The possession and territory domination slowly lead to increasingly better and better chances and after a few near misses from Chris Wardale, Jonty Black and Ben Chapman we won our first short corner which Cameron Cooke kindly decided to drag into the net for a greatly deserved 1-0 lead. That was about the only thing of note from the first half. 2nd half started much the same but Chelmsfords low block did start to spee some promise with odd counters and short corners being won. Thankfully, Alastair Cooke nd Louis Preston were on hand for some great goal line saves and the score remained 1-0. Chelmsfords failed counters then began to tell on the hot day as they ran out of steam which allowed Thomas Cooke to combine with Ben Chapman for a rapid break and found Chris Wardale in the D for a 1v1 and tidy finish over the keeper. And then Cameron Cooke and Stu Wardle combined with Ross Pitcher for a similarly quick goal and his first since rejoining from his 3 year loan deal to Loughborough Uni. All in all a great performance, another Clean Sheet and what should see us top of the table but no one knows for certain as the new GMS doesn't like showing any useful information.

MENS 2ND XI - 25/09/2021 VS FELIXSTOWE 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: Missed chances cost City LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Felixstowe RESULT: 3-1 loss REPORT: We took time to adapt to the slowness of the pitch during the first 15 minutes and shipped two goals giving ourselves a mountain to climb to get back into the game. Our first and only goal came from a short corner with Jeremy finding himself dribbling past two from the top before calmly putting it in the back of the net. A bit of controversy late in the first half saw a goal awarded before being stripped from Harry as a 16 was promptly awarded to the opposition, before a short corner was decided as time ran out on the first half. The second half saw us dominate once more however Felixstowe scored again and despite the fashioning of a few chances we were unable to score.

W (6-3) 25/09/2021 - M3 vs Norwich City 4 (A / L) CLASH OF THE TITANS LEAVES GRANDSTANDS WANTING MORE. |

MENS 3RD XI - 25/09/2021 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: Clash of the Titans leaves grandstands wanting more. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE:TRF Mainstage RESULT: City 3s 6 - 3 City 4s REPORT: On what can only be described as a tropical September afternoon the early season East Division 4 North East interclub bout took place on the main stage at TRF. Led by Simon ‘John Stones’ Black and supported by this week’s sponsor Tom Franks’ legal services, use code FRANKSY for 15% off at checkout. The 3s started dominantly but failed to put away any chances, much to the capacity crowd’s disappointment, the game opened up as the heat clocked 100 degrees, but just as the chants of ‘nil-nil all over it’ came from the crowd of 15 Will ‘The Dynamo’ Kidner found some space in the D and skillfully took it round the keeper to finish into an empty goal. Clinging onto a slender 1-nothing lead at half-time Mr Stones was clear in that the 3s could dominate the entire game, that if we scored too many we would have to take it easy, Loving the confidence chief. Spurred on from such an invigorating team talk the 3s began the second half by scoring 3 beautifully crafted goals, from Max Wilson twice and Silvey unfortunately the crowd had been depleted by the 1s rudely leaving for their game, so all 9 of them were in full voice. When the 3s then went 5-0 up moments later, the moment the prophecy had foretold came true. ‘play possession hockey’ ‘no more goals’ said the true club-man Simondo, and so in true city fashion of old the 3s began to crumble, conceding 3 goals and giving life to a game that was all but over, credit where it is due, the grandstand came to life, on 606 after the game one man said it was ‘the most exciting hockey I’ve seen at the club’ another ‘already got the value for my season ticket’ in the dying stages silvy grabbed another it what can only be described as the finish of the week. A well worked short corner routine almost made him look like a defender as he got on the end of a Monty ‘I hate hockey’ Platt thunderbolt. All in all deserved 6-3 winners, and Simondo and his troops can now march to Colchester in fine form for next Saturday. Or, At least he can pick a team now.

MENS 7TH XI - 25/09/2021 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: Warm work in the September sun LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: NORWICH CITY 7 4 NORTH NORFOLK 2 3 REPORT: It was warm work for both 12 man squads in the late September sun, but an enjoyable encounter ensued and though City built up a 3 goal lead at one stage North Norfolk 2 seemed to find a second wind in the last 15 minutes pulling two goals back leading to a thrilling finish with City just managing to hold on. City just about had the upper hand in the first half and edged ahead through David Woodward. The second half began with City really getting into their stride and moving the ball about nicely. Short corners were won, two of which were converted by injector Ali Wardale stealing into the post and steering the ball home. Citys best goal started with a defensive 16 with the ball moved to the left, then down the left flank before being moved across the pitch over to the right, then advanced down the right flank, crossed into the circle for man of the match Charlie Hutchinson to fire home. As City tired North Norfolk started to press scoring three goals due to some defensive errors, but City were not to be denied.
