L (2-5) 18/09/2021 - W1 vs Sudbury 1 (H / L) ONWARDS AND UPWARDS! |

WOMENS 1ST XI - 18/09/2021 VS SUDBURY 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: Onwards and Upwards! LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Home RESULT: 2-5 Loss REPORT: A disappointing start of the league season yesterday, saw City lose to Sudbury 5-2. Despite fantastic work rate throughout, sadly it was not City's day. With a limited squad availability there were less rotation options, with some players returning from injury, others moving out of position and some going without substitution. The scoreline doesn't tell the story of how much possetion and territory City had, but sadly the goals didn't quite flow as they would normally. There was less success than City have been having from set piece short corner play, despite being awarded many. City fell foul of the counter attack from Sudbury and 209's skillfull reverse stick shots on goal. Hopefully City can put this behind them and focus on the next games ahead. Lucy showed great composure in midfield. Niamh showed great determination throughout, and succeeding in scoring a much needed goal for City. Followed by a goal from Stacey whose stick skills were snappy as usual. Hannah Nunn was determined in defense with excellent communication to her team mates. Fongy also worked hard in defense putting in much needed tackles on Sudbury's main attacking threat stealing the ball from her as she set up for another reverse stick shot. Jo was voted player of the match, for her work rate and positivity in midfield. City Women's 1st team look forward to their next league fixture away at Cambridge University on Saturday.

W (6-0) 18/09/2021 - W2 vs Harleston Magpies 3 (A / L) TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 18/09/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: Team work makes the dream work LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 6-0 Win REPORT: NCHC Womens 2s travelled to Harleston for their first league fixture of the 2021/22 season. Pre match nerves were evident in the changing room but with a good set of pre-season wins and training sessions behind us we were feeling confident for the task in hand. City started the match with a huge amount of intensity and pressure which lead to several chances at goal, it was Leigh-Ann Worrall who clinically put the first two into the back of the net with crosses from the right hand side. The front line of Rosie Humphrey, Emma Hewitt, Leigh-Ann Worrall and Emily Leeming all worked tirelessly to create many chances. Magpies worked well to block entrance to the D, making it hard for city to penetrate, but city used this to their advantage and were rewarded with a serious of short corners. Lucy Waltons strike saw the back of the net to make it 3-0 at half time. After a positive team talk from captain Georgia Cleveland, the message was ‘same again’. City went out again with the same fantastic work rate from every single player. City were very rarely troubled, with our wonderful keeper Georgina Barratt constantly talking from the back, Sally, Sabina Baker, Harriet Preston and Lucy Walton were always in fully control from the back, the only issue was Sabina Bakers glove, which the umpire took a disliking too. Once again, city continued to attack at pace, with Lauren Lawrie and Dani Sizers silky skills in midfield proving too good for the opposition to stop. Lucy Walton and Harriet Preston provided such great support from the back making citys attacks pretty much unstoppable. Rosie Humphrey started her goal campaign off with a fine finish, followed with one by Hanna Hall. Which saw the ball carefully worked up the right hand side and crossed in but unfortunately no one was there, however to everyone’s surprise Hanna Hall came sliding through the D on the magpies well watered pitch picking a reverse stick deflection which saw it swoop into the back of the net. A goal even Alex Danson in her glory days would have been proud of. Then Dani Sizer completed the goal scoring making sure Emma Hewitts strike reached the back of the net in the final few minutes. Boom… 6-0. A positively glowing start to the season for the womens 2s. An absolutely incredible team performance.

W (5-0) 18/09/2021 - W3 vs Carrow 1 (H / L) A FANTASTIC START TO THE BID FOR PROMOTION! |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 18/09/2021 VS CARROW 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A fantastic start to the bid for promotion! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 REPORT: NCHC Womens 3 V’s Carrow 1 TRF H20 18.09.21 10am A fantastic start to the bid for promotion! Another early start for L3’s saw warm weather greet us at TRF. With our bid for promotion at the front of our minds, the 3’s were determined to make an impression from the outset. However, our start proved to be rocky, with a bouncy pitch and lack of formation meaning we were not at our best. However, as seems to be the pattern with L3’s, after the first fifteen minutes on the pitch we found our shape and began to press hard and consistently on the oppositions D. Finding our voices, the 3’s began to communicate and play our hockey, utilizing the wings, creating spaces and strong attacking play which culminated in a stunning goal by Emma Richardson from a short corner, (keeping up her scoring streak) which ending in the top right hand corner. We finished the first half 1-0 up. A constructive team talk was had at half time led by captain Gemma Sargent, encouraging simple play, talking, and playing our positive kind of hockey. The second half saw L3’s come out hard with new, renewed energy and drive resulting in multiple attacks on the D resulting in a number of chances. A scrappy attack on goal by Mollae Scott and Ellie Alderton led to a short corner being awarded. A firm injection by new player Hollie Joyce was received by Claire Snelling, slipped left to Ellie Alderton who put a very bouncy ball into the bottom left-hand corner! 2-0 (a goal is a goal). Marie Hood led several powerful drives towards the D, whilst the passing in the attacking 23 meant that the pressure on the goal was consistent. Accompanied by a well-organized press, Carrow found it hard to get through to their midfield. Hood’s consistent attacking pressure led her to score a third powerful strike off a deflection past the Carrow keeper on the right side. Another short corner was won, slipped left, and hit home by Ellie Alderton making 4 and was soon followed by a spectacular shot from the right by Emily Greenway. A spectacular way to finish at 5-0! All in all, after a slow start this match left the squad feeling confident and positive moving forward into next weeks game. Aware we need to work on consistency and form at training but firm in the knowledge that this will come as the season progresses. Well done all! PTOM was Mollae Scott, well deserved due to consistent pressure on the forward line, unwaning running and active play

WOMENS 5TH XI - 18/09/2021 VS HERLINGS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A Great Win in Hot Conditions LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TAVERHAM RESULT: 2-0 WIN REPORT: It was a very hot morning for hockey but Norwich were enthusiastic for their first league match! Norwich had most of the possession throughout the match with some excellent passing around and runs up the pitch and the defence did well to stop any breaks from the Herlings as they had a few strong players hanging high. Sharon Phillips scored two excellent goals to give us a well deserved 2-0 win! Thanks to Maria Marsh and Vicki Myhill for helping us from the 4s and to Amy Hinchcliffe for standing in as an excellent captain.

W (9-0) 18/09/2021 - W6 vs Harleston Magpies 8 (H / L) A BRILLIANT 2ND HALF FOR CITY |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 18/09/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 8 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A Brilliant 2nd Half For City LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 9-0 REPORT: Magpies 8s came expecting to play a kicking back (a field-player allowed to use her feet to stop the ball to take the place of a goalkeeper). However, the umpires informed them that England Hockey rules now state this is no longer allowed. Without a goalie they were forced to play with 11 outfielders. This proved trickier than expected for City in the first half, with the patterns of play breaking down as the extra Magpies defender blocked attackers attempts on goal. The game seemed messy and uncomfortably chaotic and City couldn’t quite find their usual rhythm thanks to the overload of outfield Magpies players. Thanks to some powerful hits by their pivot player to young players high up the pitch, Magpies repeatedly gained ground into City’s defensive 25, forcing the home team’s defence to win back the ball safely with no threat towards our amazing Goalie. Finally, the first City goal arrived. A lovely square ball across the front of goal from Lauren O’Hanlon was deflected in by Liz Hollis and City went into the half time break 1 nil up. After the break, City settled to play their own game and worked out how to keep the play in the attacking 25 and score. Pressing high and piling yellow shirts into the D, Magpies found it hard to contain the home team. Once they had cracked the defence, City repeatedly found the back of the goal. Magpies remained in good spirits as City scored goal after goal. Midfield sent ball after ball into the D and a goal each came from Louisa Sizeland, Helen McCall, Lauren O’Hanlon and Emily Winter. Sarah Bird scored two lovely deflections and Liz Hollis scored a further two to complete a hat trick. Some strong midfield play was appreciated by teammates who voted Esther Hamilton and Emily Winter joint player of the match.

WOMENS 7TH XI - 18/09/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A hot morning in Harleston LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston RESULT: L 0-6 REPORT: It was an early start for City at Harleston this morning & so leaving Norwich in early morning fog, a few of us wondered if we would actually be able to see the ball when we got there! However the sun shone through as we arrived to produce an incredibly hot morning Magpies got off to a great start & unfortunately scored 3 goals in very quick succession which put City on the back foot for all of the first half & we never really settled down & got into our stride. Magpies did short, quick accurate passes & left City a bit despondent. By the end of the first half we were 4-0 down. However after a break at half time & a quick talking to ourselves, we faired much better in the second half & produced some much better hockey with a few attacks on goal & short corners coming our way. We were unfortunate not to claw one back & Magpies went on to score another 2 times! Highlight of the match was a fantastic save by GK Jess Westbury when Magpies were awarded a penalty flick. Jess as always was all over it & prevented us from going 7-0 down. A big thanks to Ellis Couzins & Alice Petch for doubling up from the 6's so we had a full team & a sub. Perhaps not the start to the league we had hoped for but from now on the only way is up!!

W (7-1) 18/09/2021 - M2 vs Norwich Dragons 2 (H / L) CITY SLAY DRAGONS |

MENS 2ND XI - 18/09/2021 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: City Slay Dragons LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 7-1 Win REPORT: City welcomed local rivals Norwich dragons to a sweltering TRF. With 43 available players, captain Anthony did well to narrow his selection to a meager 17 only to find that he was officially obliged to select no more than 16 players for the first league game of the season. After a last minute personnel reshuffle city took to the pitch with high hopes of an opening day victory! City started on the front foot and within minutes had earned their first short corner of the match. Unfortunately the warm conditions had created a rather dry and sticky pitch meaning the first drag out barely made it over the touch line. Fortunately city managed to win another short corner but the same result followed… another failed injection. Though great pressure and perseverance it wasn’t long before city had yet another short corner and this time a change of routine lead to the opener. After an initial save from the dragons keeper Anthony found himself alone in the D and flicked the ball powerfully into the back of the net. City kept up the pressure and soon enough added another goal. This time a close range effort was neatly put away by city forward Cresswell. City remained dominant and next up it was the turn of young and no doubt future star Patel. Another short corner, this time the routine went to plan and Patels drag flick made the score 3-0. Before the break city made the score 4-0 after Hindle managed to squeeze a shot underneath the onrushing dragons keeper. Captain Anthony was full of praise for his team at the half time break and asked for more of the same in the second half. City didn’t start with quite the same gusto they had in the first half but still created plenty of chances. Unfortunately they conceded an unlucky goal against the run of play. A bit of a goal mouth scramble lead to Dragons first and subsequently only goal of the game. City quickly returned the status quo when a lovely move down the right found poacher Land lurking at the back post to finish from close range. Soon after city had more attempts on the dragons goal and again found the back of the net when Hindle picked up a poor clearance to flick the ball past the stricken Dragons keeper. Finally it was the turn of farmer Gill to join the party. Those long lilly white legs carried him and the ball to the top of the D and what followed was a lovely strike low into the corner of the goal. A great opener for city who in truth could have made it double figures but will be thrilled with a rampant victory over a local rival. Next week city travel away to Felixstowe. MOTM - Hindle

We continued to play well as a team into the second half with strong performances from all, maintaining focus and passing the ball well between us. MENS 7TH XI - 18/09/2021 VS DEREHAM 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: Made in Hethersett LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: DEREHAM HC RESULT: NORWICH CITY 7 1 DEREHAM 4 0 REPORT: After a narrow victory over Dereham 5's last week City weren't quite sure what to expect in the first league encounter against against the home sides higher team, however, there were a few familiar faces in the team and the make of old and young matched the 7's. City gave debuts to Charlie Hutchinson moving up from the Devs and Matt Daniels, a relative newcomer to the game, who only enquired about joining less than 24 hours before the match. Also good to James Hewett upon his return from uni. City started brightly with some good passing moves around the middle of the pitch and good defensive work from man of the match Ben Hawes, James Dorling, Matt Daniels, James Hewett and Ali Wardale which limited the Dereham attacks. City controlled most of the first half but by the break only had one goal to show for their efforts made by Hethersett neighbours Ali Wardale and Dave Woodward. Ali Wardale intercepted the ball on the half way line and burst forward fortuitously beating a couple of players on his way to the goal line before driving into the circle and laying the ball on a plate for the waiting Dave Woodward to sweep home. The second half followed in similar vein, though how the score remained at 0-1 is a mystery as both sides spurned a number of gilt edged chances. All in all a very enjoyable match on a very warm afternoon and good to start the league campaign with a win.
