WOMENS 1ST XI - 26/09/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: CITY’S STRONG START LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 11-0 REPORT: After an intensive pre season, City were excited for their first league match. City started strong with great intensity but they weren’t quite linking up. 10 minutes in and Jo Staines put away City’s first goal. City started to relax and work together to create lots more chances. A selfless pass across goal from Olivia Williams saw Ellie Brine her first goal. Sophie Mullan scored City’s next goal with a hit into the top corner. Olivia Williams followed up with two more goals before half time. 5-0 City continued to work hard in the second half, a rebound off the keeper saw Ellie Brine score her second. Great skill around the defender and strike from Stacey Lee scored City their 7th goal. Recently being back from injury didn’t stop Lee as she scored her second shortly after. After a few narrow misses, Rosie Ringer was determined to put one away with a strike into the corner, scoring City’s ninth goal. A quick interception was followed up by a goal for Alice Gill, 10-0. Only a few minutes to go and Ellie Brine won a penalty flic, taken (and nicely slotted away) by Felicity Williams. Final score 11-0 Player of the match Felicity Williams

L (2-3) 26/09/2020 - W2 vs Colchester 1 (A / L) UNLUCKY LOSS FOR DETERMINED 2S |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 26/09/2020 VS COLCHESTER 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Unlucky Loss For Determined 2s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Colchester RESULT: 3-2 Loss REPORT: The game began with high positivity and a desire to win, to start the season off right. We were determined for the three points and this showed by the confidence and pressure we put on Colchester within the first 15 mins. After a few good shots at goal, we managed to score from a long slap across from Frankie Birkenhead and a quick deflection from Rosie Humphrey, leaving our heads high and prepared for a fight. After several confusing decisions, Colchester had equalised with us, however we still kept pushing and put them under pressure. We came back fighting in the second half, and scored again from a short corner with textbook execution from Rosie Humphrey once again. Unfortunately, the lack of subs got the best of us and allowed Colchester to equalise with a second goal. We attempted a last push, trying to cut out their best player and kept our defence strong with a few beautiful balls from Milly Brown across the pitch to put pressure on the goalkeeper, but we still weren’t able to score another. Within the last few minutes of the match, Colchester were awarded a penalty flick which they converted, leaving the team disappointed with a 3-2 loss. We look to push hard and show our dominance in this league, and although it was a step back, we will come to next Saturday with the same intensity and drive. Well played girls. POTM Ellie Hobden

L (0-3) 26/09/2020 - W3 vs Broadland 1 (H / L) EAST PROMOTION DEBUT WASHOUT |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 26/09/2020 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: East promotion debut washout LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-3 REPORT: Despite all the odds, the first league game of the season arrived and saw City 3s line up against Broadland 1s at Home in torrential rain. City were eager to begin their campaign in the East League, following last seasons triumphant promotion. City started the match confidently, creating some promising goal scoring opportunities from some crisp passing, between Mia Edmunds and Emma Richardson, down the right hand side of the pitch, releasing Emily Leeming to make an impact with a superb drive and cross into the crowded Broadland D. However, after an initial flourish of promising opportunities, Broadland increased the pressure on City's midfield. With City's heads forced down, passes began to go astray. City were struggling to use the space on the pitch to their advantage. Despite this, City's midfield, Kim Cleave, Jenni Czerwinski and Emma Richardson, worked hard to cope with the physicality of the Broadland side and win the 50:50 balls. City began to get pinned into their own half which resulted in two goals from Broadland in quick succession. City conceeded a penalty corner, which they struck hard, fortunately Molly Grommett was quick on her feet to make a stunning save. Continued pressure on City's hitouts, culminated in a Broadland midfielder completing a run into Citys D and smashing the ball home to put Broadland three goals up. The second half saw City regroup and adjust to the increased speed of play in the new division. City's defence, Sabina Baker, Sally Richards, Karen Dagless and Mia Edmunds, made some strong tackles which appeared to stunt the opposition attack and allowed for City to push up into the Broadland half. Strong drives into the D by Liv Greenway, Gabby Sharp and Emily Leeming were rewarded with a series of penalty corners. With each corner routine City were getting closer to scoring the first goal of the campaign, but the post was to deny them. The final score, 3-0, did not reflect the division of play between the two teams. Good Effort Womens!! POM was closely fought with votes for the whole defence, but Sabina Baker came out on top.

W (2-0) 26/09/2020 - W6 vs Watton 3 (A / L) FANTASTIC START TO THE LEAGUE |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 26/09/2020 VS WATTON 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Fantastic start to the League LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Watton RESULT: 2 - 0 to City REPORT: City braced for the cold and rain today but thankfully the game stayed dry. A strong start by city with great pressure, and a few runs made by Watton. First goal came in the first half made by a feed in from Alice Petch to Liz Hollis, who hit it to left hand corner of the goal. Second goal came in the second half, from a strike from Ellis Couzins deflected up leaving Louisa Sizeland to do an aerial deflection to score. Sarah Bird the 7's captain helped out today in attack with a strike on goal that skimmed the post and deflected back into the D. The opposition new she was a threat so kept a close mark on her at all times. Our Mid fielders formed a core centre to the game today, with Rose Byrne key in passing the ball through players into space, and enabling a fluid drive by attack. Defense played great, with only around 3 strikes on goal made by the opposition. They kept the ball from getting dangerously close to the D, often picking off players before they reached the 23 meter line. We also borrowed Sam Harvey, as well from the 7s, who was a huge asset in blocking the opposition from coming down. And lastly, special mention to POTM Sofia Hancy. She's always been a key player in the team but today she shone with confidence. At any point throughout that game, Sofia was was either driving the ball, offering support, feeding into the D or marking defense on a 16. She was closely followed in nominations by Esther Hamilton and Rose Byrne who were vital support in the spine of the team.

W (6-0) 26/09/2020 - LD vs Dereham (H / L) STORMY CONDITIONS BUT A GREAT START TO THE LEAGUE FOR THE GIRLS DEVELOPMENT TEAM. |

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 26/09/2020 VS DEREHAM (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Stormy conditions but a great start to the league for the Girls development team. LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:WON 6:0 REPORT: The girl's development team were sheltering near the club house at 8.45am this morning as the rain came down around them but the 16 strong squad took to the pitch in the inclement conditions & didn't look back. They went out fighting against the Dereham girls who looked strong & were unlucky not to get a goal early on. City had quite a few strikes on goal thwarted by their agile goal keeper but eventually the first goal came from Hollie Blackham, also POTM, who was very strong on the right side throughout the match. Just before half-time Katie Smith knocked one in from the left post taking City 2:0 up at half-time. In the second-half City continued their attack led by Grace Hanworth-Knights who made run after run through the middle of the Dereham defence & scored 3 further goals to complete her second hat-trick of this season. She was well-supported by great balls from Evie Brockington & India Fox. City's defence was consistently strong with Niamh Rushton & Isabelle Brandford scooping up any loose balls & Jessica Westbury in goal maintained a clean sheet & was still smiling at the end despite the wind & the rain & being rather cold! A great debut from some of the U12's who have come up this season, Millie & Alice Brown & Susannah Hamilton. This was a great start to the league for the girls who were all keen & all battled on to the end despite all being drenched & freezing. They were very grateful to the TRF staff who provided some hot takeaway bacon rolls & hot dogs after the match

W (4-3) 26/09/2020 - M1 vs Letchworth 1 (H / L) OPENING DAY FINALLY UPON US, DIDNT DISAPPOINT ONE BIT! |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 26/09/2020 VS LETCHWORTH 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Opening day finally upon us, didnt disappoint one bit! LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 4-3 Win REPORT: The weather was less than ideal but that didnt matter, it was opening day and we were determined to make the most of it and start the season as we mean to go on. After watching the womens put 11 past North Norfolk it was time for us to follow suit and get the season underway. Things looked immensely positive from the off with Cam Cooke slotting away good creative play from Tom Cooke and Ben Chapman. After the bright start it was anything but plain sailing, newly promoted Letchworth woke up and came at us dominating both possession and territory. After city held strong with for a solid 10 minutes and Alistair cooke making some amazing saves at 3 short corners, letchworth eventually made the pressure pay and after a messy ball into the top of the D an unsighted Alistair cooke did well to get 1 hand to the ball but couldnt stop the well timed deflection going in. 1-1 HT. City got the kick they needed to focus up, reshape and play smarter. 10 minutes into the second half, all looked well with a ball across the face from harry hill falling to Jack ingham, who put everything he could behind his hit from the p spot and roofed it, goalkeeper was helpless. Once again on top and looking good but this wouldnt last as after 5 green cards for both sides in the first 50 minutes it was time for some yellows. First letchworth had one and then Richard Green was unlucky to receive one for an apparent elbow. Whilst the game was 10v10 letchworth got an equaliser from a short corner but a quick response from city whilst letchworth went back up to 11 men with Harry gill charging around the top D, cutting into the right hand side of the D and it classic Gill fashion slamming the ball into the opposite corner returned our deserved lead to us despite being a man down. Then came potentially the most exciting 10 minutes of hockey we will have all year. The already feisty game was kicked up a notch when one of the letchworth players received a second yellow and therefore a technical red our for the rest of the game this only spurred them on to push for the equaliser and whme they eventually got through our solid back 3 with 1 on 1 v Alistair Cooke he went in for the ball, got the ball, but also got alot of the man. P Flick awarded and yellow card for Alistair. That wasnt the end of the drama as Stu fought for the decision he picked up a fellow for his protest and in all the carnage Cam Cooke padded up to go in for the P Flick whilst Iain Martin our manager and former GK decided he would be the hero and go in for the remaining 5 minutes. After much deliberation about what the rules are surrounding outfield players defending P Flicks and replacement GKs the P Flick was eventually scored 3-3. In case you cant keep track its currently 10 letchworth players against 9 Norwich players for the remaining 5 minutes. Both sides had chances, luckily enough Iain wasnt forced to make a save and then with a minute to go tom Harris played a ball up the line to louis Preston who dropped the ball off to Tom Cooke who forced the ball in towards Louis whod made a beautiful run into the back post but it was Cam Cooke who got his stick on it and we celebrated like it was a world cup final. All the excitement of an opening day fixture, all the drama of a tight game, a few cards here and there but overall we kept our heads, played some decent hockey and got tbw deserved 3 points. Bring on Dereham at home again this week.

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 7-1 Loss REPORT: Always difficult to judge the interclub games but the 4s can be proud of their efforts against a strong Norwich City 3rd team. 3-1 down at the break despite some good chances being created (The only one being scored by Max Wilson) Despite a positive opening 10 minuets of the second half with Bobby Rash in the 3s goal pulling off some good saves the 3s scored a fourth and from their on in took charge of the game with their experience racking up a further three goals. So a first loss for the 4s but still plenty of positives to take from the game as next week we travel for a local away game at Dragons.

MENS 7TH XI - 26/09/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 8 (H) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Enjoyable first league outing LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: NORWICH CITY 7 3 BURY 8 6 REPORT: City 7’s enjoyed an enjoyable closely contested encounter against newly formed Bury 8’s with the scoreline flattering the opposition. The difference between the two sides being the opponents adult centre forward, whilst the City adults were disciplined in their desire to support City’s young players. For the first sixty minutes the score see-sawed with never more than one goal between the teams. Bury opened the scoring after five minutes, City equalising twenty minutes later through a rare Jack Luther open stick strike. Five minutes before the break Jack Luther bagged his second with a trademark reverse stick strike. Five minutes after the break Bury drew level before going ahead fifteen minutes later. Two minutes later City were on level terms when midfield maestro Will Kidner scored. Bury then scored three goals in the last ten minutes as the Bury centre forward came into his own to seal victory.
