L (2-3) 19/09/2020 - W1 vs Harleston Magpies 2 (A / F) NORWICH CITY LADIES 1’S AGAINST MAGPIES 2’S |

WOMENS 1ST XI - 19/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Norwich City womens 1’s against Magpies 2’s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE:Magpies RESULT:3-2 L REPORT: Norwich City travelled to Magpies for the last of their pre-season games. The team were feeling positive after a strong win last time but conscious they were travelling away and Magpies may have more availability as they were playing at home. Magpies had a strong start, leaving City no time to settle and shortly finding the back of the net. With the sun shining City were not going to be thrown by this. The game continued but unfortunately due to several poor tackles across the pitch, someone soon had to take a card …. Ellie Brine shortly finding herself off the pitch. Despite this, the game continued but the umpires were up for no nonsense… Sophie Mullan then finding herself off the pitch. Magpies scored again but City remained determined and with some excellent movement, both on and off the ball and some well-placed weighted balls forward, Cities first goal came. Magpies led with a 2-1 lead at half time and with both teams preparing for new seasons ahead, the second half continued with clear determination. The umpires remained set on carding to try maintain the standard of play and Magpies too suffered a few casualties: safe to say this was a game no player wanted to be off the pitch during. City held control during the second half, keeping Magpies out of the 23 for much of the second half with some excellent play from Hannah Jarvis in defence and fiery movement from Krystal Bishop who had some tricky defensive players to navigate up front. Despite their hard work, and in a very back and forth game, Magpies took the win at their home ground 3-2. A great pre-season match ahead of the new season!

City were pegged back into the second following some good play from the away side which mean Zara Howes equalized with a strike from the top of the D. With the game in the balance Helen Busfield scored her and City's second which turned out to be enough to seal our a 2-1 victory.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 19/09/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: CITY LET LEAD SLIP FRIENDLY VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: On a sunny Saturday we gathered to play local rivals Norwich Dragons, a great team warm up lead by Emily Francis prepared us to commence the last friendly prior to the season starting. The match started well with the ball building from the back line, through the midfield and to the forwards. We attacked various angles of the D and looked to goal scoring opportunities. City won a short corner, the ball was hit from the top of the D to Mia Moore who dinked it over the line after a tussle with the keeper. The score at half time was 1-0 After the team talk we focused more on transferring the ball across the pitch and changing the channel of play. This was executed well by Dani Sizer making excellent runs down the sideline to widen play. The second goal from City came from Milly Brown who drove the baseline and cut it back to the P spot where Rosie Humphrey found the back of the net. Good defensive work from Sally Rose stopped Dragons attacking the left side line and excellent passes were made to Georgia Cleveland and Niamh Cambell allowing them to build on play. Dragons made a break and tired City players couldn’t keep up. Molly Gromett made a save as it was struck on the top of the D but rebounded and went into the back of the net from a Dragons player. Player of the match was Molly Gromett who made some excellent saves throughout the match. Final score 2-2.

W (5-2) 19/09/2020 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (A / F) 5 GOAL FANTASTIC - COME BACK OF THE CENTURY |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 19/09/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: 5 goal fantastic - come back of the century LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: dragons RESULT: 5-2 REPORT: Today it was a massive game against Norwich dragons 3s and let me tell you it was a fantastic game, but first of all a massive well done to Marie for creating a Zumba / aerobic warm up which everyone took part in. Anyway back to the game. We had Caroline Illing come and join us this week as well as Gabby Sharp trying a new position as left half back, which she soon took in her stride. The first half of the game was intense, however we had lots of amazing chances from Emily Leeming and Marie Hood creating a couple of chances in the 'D' which lead to a couple of shorts, which unfortunately weren't initially successful. Soon Serena Scott had a 1v1 with an attacking dragon, which unfortunatly she had no hope in saving, therefore we where loosing 1-0. However, we didn't give up the fight, but yet again dragons had a another chance to score which was successful - half way through the first half we where loosing 2-0. But wait, There was a turn of the switch when we won a short corner. Emily Spencer decided to have a straight strike, which allowed Olivia greenway to slip in (city come back at 2-1). Throughout the game we where still battling we some great chances from Lauren Lawrie, as well as great defending skills from the back by Sabina Baker and Karren Dagless. At the end of the first half we had another short corner so everybody was up (no pressure). We where so driven to score this goal. Emily Spencer received it and passed to Marie Hood on the slip left, pushed it in and scored! End of the first half was an equaliser. Before we got into the second half we had some lovely words of wisdom from Gemma as she was on the bench and there was so much support going towards everyone, which was so nice. But anyway, game faces on, we were out again for the attack. We started off strong as a team and driven to win this last friendly before we go into our new league. We gave it our all. Well done to Emily Leeming for getting lots of passes and running round like sonic the hedgehog, as well as Marie Hood and Lauren Lawrie for creating lots of chances for the forwards to attack. This teamwork allowed us to get goals from Ellie Alderton, Lauren Lawrie and another from Olivia Greenway, which made our result 5-2 overall (fantastic stuff). However, all of this good positivity may come with something bad, as the umpire carded Karren Dagless meaning we had to go super defensive, but well done to everyone for keeping there foot down as we conceded no goals, which was fantastic. With not long left they tried to get chances on goal but it was still unsuccessful. When the final whistle blew, it was a come back of the century the fantastic 12 did it! Well done everybody ! A special well done to Emily leeming for getting potm, awesome stuff

L (0-1) 19/09/2020 - W5 vs Pelicans 2 (H / F) A TIGHT FINISH |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 19/09/2020 VS PELICANS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: A tight finish LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Home RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: After such a hefty win mid week the 5s were keen and energetic to get back onto the pitch this Saturday. After several friendlies, the team are starting to get to know each other's strengths and weakness-and names of course which is always useful. It was a blazing sunny morning for mid September and not at all the weather we are used to playing in. Unfortunately a tough match was not what we needed on such a warm day. We had a slightly rocky start with our formation slipping and a lot of ball following taking place. But with Carol McNarry, our excellent retired ex-captain, on the sidelines and Allison McLellan taking charge from the back they soon whipped us back into shape. We held our own excellently during the first half against a strong Pelicans side who have just come down from the league above. There were several excellent runs made by Sophie Bush our POTM and Susan Matthews setting up lots of possibilities from the middle. However it wasn't to be for either side and we were still 0-0 at half time. The second half felt much stronger with a lot of excellent defending taking place and much better awareness of space and marking. Despite this the Pelicans still managed to get a sneaky ball past Millie Hyatt after several relentless attacks in our half. Our heads didn't go down though and everyone worked harder to try to equalise. After a second goal was flukely stopped on the back line mid air Norwich made several good counter attacks and the last 10mins could have been anyone's game. The final score reflected the relentless battle on both ends by our newly formed team. Thanks again to Millie for helping us out in goal last minute. It would have been a much higher score without her there.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 19/09/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Last friendly LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Dragons Den RESULT: 2 - 0 Win REPORT: This is the 6's 3rd win which is a incredibly promising for the season ahead as the first 5 games last year resulted in just the one win. The team have been focusing on short corner lately, with advice from coaches and attack Liz Hollis being crucial in the implementation. Sloppy Lemon proved a huge success and we are starting to utilise our attackers strengths to get those goals in. The first goal came in from a short corner, with a slip left and shot on target, but the end result coming from Louisa Sizeland and her ability to grab those rebounds and make them count. Second goal came after half time, again a rebound from a short corner taken with great skill by Ellis Couzins. Praise as well to Josine Van Den Burg who created most of those short corner options with her roll rounds. POTM was our goalie Joanne Di-Corpo who had some excellent saves as per usual, and was key in keeping a clean sheet by dictating the defense when we lost our players. Also special thanks to Mirha Kashif and Rosie Crane who came up from 7's to help us out and proved to be a huge asset.

W (7-0) 19/09/2020 - LD vs Harleston Magpies (A / F) FRUITFUL FIRST OUTING FOR THIS SEASONS DEVS |
---|
WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 19/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Fruitful first outing for this seasons Devs VENUE: SHOTFORD HEATH RESULT: MAGPIES GIRLS DEVS 0 CITY GIRLS DEVS 7 REPORT: As is often the case with the Devs with new players moving up from the Under 12's it is difficult to know how the team will perform on their first outing. City fielded six girls who were making their debuts for the Devs, but with five of last years regulars City had experience and ability to call upon. India Fox slotted nicely into the role of centre-half but City's real power came from inside right Grace Hanworth-Knights. Magpies were unable to cope with her power and surging runs from midfield. City were three up at the end of the first quarter Grace Hanworth-Knight converting the second phase of a short corner. Evie Brockington added a second a trademark far post tap in at a short corner and Grace Hanworth-Knight converting the third with a thunderbolt from the left edge of the circle. The second quarter saw City add a further three goals as Grace added to more to her tally and Millie Power who worked hard in midfield adding the other. After the break City moved players around and it was good to see many perform well away from their usual positions especially Evie Brockington at centre half, Hollie Blackham at right back, Emily Morton at inside left and Niamh Rushton at right wing. Despite some good passages of play leading up to the circle City were only able to add one further goal in the second half when Grace added her fifth of the match with a solo effort from inside her own half. Player of the match went to Lottie Hood who showed great composure on the ball along with good distribution.

W (6-1) 19/09/2020 - M1 vs Spalding 1 (A / F) AWAY DAY TO SPALDING BRINGS STRONG PRESEASON TO A CLOSE |

MENS 1ST XI - 19/09/2020 VS SPALDING 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Away day to Spalding brings strong preseason to a close LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Glen Park RESULT: 6-1 REPORT: The long trip to Lincolnshire was the last chance to get things right before our first league game vs letchworth next week. And after a warm up game of cricket with the sun shining, it was time to get underway. We knew Spalding were going to be a step up from recent opposition and the early stages lived up to that, end to end but neither side could really make the chances count. Then the Cam Cooke show started, 2 reverses: 1 across the keeper and the other squeezing in the near post. Made it 2-0 Q1. 2nd quarter was more of the same, another Cam Cooke goal but this time a well worked fluid move from Tom Cooke to Ben Chapman to Chris Wardale for an easy finish. This was followed up by a similarly good move down the right hand side where Stu Wardle beat 1 defender for pace and then lifted the ball over another on the baseline before putting a lovely ball into Pete Morgan who deflected the ball between his legs and into goal. 4-0 HT. The flat pitch and hot day meant this fast, hard start was surely going to drop off and that it did. Spalding managed to turn the ball over in our half and punish us for a lapse in concentration with a messy goal. 4-1, comeback on? Nope. 30 seconds later we had the ball in the net again. Great play to pass it around them with Tom Harris, Pete Morgan & Felix Broadway combining before it came to Jack Ingham in the D who happily reversed it home. Plenty more chances came but not many goals, until Cam flicked home from a short corner. 6-1. The score might've remained the same for the last 10 but the amount of players we had did not. Gabriel Marchant picked up green, then as Gabe came back Chris Wardale wanted a rest for 2 and then Harry Brown decided Chris looked lonely and picked up a yellow of his own. Sour end to a good day out. Great end to a strong preseason, lots learnt and everyone is in great spirits eager to get going and get some points on the board!

MENS 2ND XI - 19/09/2020 VS SPALDING 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Dominance doesn't bring results... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: City started the game well creating lots of chances and reducing the amount of opportunities the opposition got. This continued throughout the first half, creating chance after chance, but just failing to put the ball in the back of the net. We continued in the same fashion for the second half, but one nice touch from the opposition opened up the goal for an easy tapin, and then they punished us again after we made a mistake. Dispute our dominance throughout the game we, couldn't get back at them, leaving the final score 2-0. POTM and report by: Jonty Black

MENS 3RD XI - 19/09/2020 VS UEA 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Festival Fever LEAGUE: Friendly VENUE: Taverham RESULT: City 3s 5 - 0 UEA 3s REPORT: City entertained UEA in a good spirited mactch at sun drenched Taverham. Despite the early start there was a decent crowd to witness some free flowing hockey. Freddie Paterson opened the scoring and City would have been three up inside the first 15 minutes had it not been for the students’ keeper twice thwarting Robert McCall. However, City reserved their best hockey following the departure of Captain Simon Black due to injury which seemed to galvanise the team, and man of the match Alex Tomkinson in particular. Mark Fletcher made is 2-0 before a Rees Leonard penalty corner made it 3-0. A fourth City goal was correctly ruled out but left them in a dominant position at half time. The second half saw some excellent link up play with the ever young Paul Roy and Nick Hooper combining beuatifully with the youthful Tomkinson, Freddie Paterson, Robert McCall and Josh Bailey. A Nick Hooper reverse hit and a classic Rees Leonard finish made it 5-0. Whilst City created a host of other chances they were thwarted by a combination of good keeping, last ditch defending and less than clinical finishing. With this the final pre-season match there were plenty of good performances to make selection a challenge for the opening league match next week and City 4s. Man of the match was Alex Tomkinson who turned a sluggish opening 15 minutes into a genuinely impressive and composed performance.

An even first half were City and Exiles both created several chances it was goal less at the break. Both teams continued to create chances after half time but it was City who took the lead when Ollie Millett fired home a reverse stick shot past the keeper. City's keeper Bobby Rash made some great saves to preserve his clean sheet as Exiles pushed for an equalizer but it was City who held on to claim a slender 1-0 victory. A great performance by the team consider so few adults were available.

Bury responded with a charge of their midfield which resulted in their first goal. City had some good chances in the D, and a series of short corners which were converted by Marcus O'Sullivan to the first goal. After this, Bury came out hungry again and scored again. After a series of end to end battles, Bury scored again. City responded in the last 15 mins by giving it all their all, with a lot of quality saves by the Bury keeper, City managed to score again. MENS 7TH XI - 19/09/2020 VS NORFOLK NOMADS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Good mix of youth and experience VENUE: UEA SPORTSPARK RESULT: NORFOLK NOMADS 1 NORWICH CITY 7 5 REPORT: City contained a good mix of youth and experience with debuts at this level for Louis Preston. City had an early let-off when a Nomads short corner found it's way into the net, but was chalked off for a foot before it crossed the line. After a hesitant start City started to find their way and made good inroads down the right flank where Ed Beake and father Dave Beake combined nicely. Midway through the half the ball found its way to Corey Rushton in the circle who finished with a reverse stick shot. He added a second ten minutes later with another ripping reverse stick shot after some good combinations down the right hand side. Nomads then struck back through a short corner before City added a third on the stroke of half time courtesy of the evergreen Dave Woodward. City were really into their rhythmn in the second half moving the ball around and created several chances. It was no surprise when Dave Woodward added his second after good work from Corey Rushton. Dave Woodward then thought he had completed his hat-trick with the deftest of touches, but the umpire thought otherwise. With a minute remaining City added a fifth when Louis Miller pounced on a loose ball following a short corner breakdown and smashed the ball home. A good victory before league matches commence. New boy Louis Preston performed well and could do well at higher levels.
