REPORT:
Well done to the U16s girls for their 5-1 victory against Old Loughts on Sunday. A great result to come away with and well deserved.
At the start this looked to be a very equal match with Grace scoring the first goal for City, with Old Loughts scoring shortly after following a short corner.
A great finish from Evie meant we finished the first half 2-1, with all to play for in the second half
After our half time team talk, City regrouped and took the attack to opposition. A second goal for Grace shortly after the restart gave City a little breathing space.
With Old Loughts mounting numerous attacks, City’s defence had their work cut out. However a strong defensive performance and some great teamwork, ensured no further goals were conceded. Some creative midfield play and passing set up Grace who scored 2 further goals, one from a penalty stoke having been felled by their keeper.
A great win for City today.

Playing Magpies was always going to be tough, but injuries to Grace Hanworth-Knights and Lucy Walton made the task more difficult. This was compounded midway through the first half when Alice Majoram fell ill leaving us with a bare 11.
During the first quarter Magpies were dominant, but then City started to find their feet and mounted attacks of their own. City started the second half well and Magpies were indebted to their keeper that City remained scoreless. City finally got on the scoresheet from a lovely passing move sweetly finished by Chloe Holmes. With 15 minutes remaining City started to tire and Magpies took further advantage. The City girls deserve credit for their hard working performance and the play they displayed in the middle of the game. Poppy Scott was player of the match breaking up many attacks and breaking forward to enable City to mount attacks.

REPORT:
City’s first match in the Tier 1 U16 East League ended in a draw. The opponents for this match were Cambridge Juniors who we hadn’t faced previously. City struggled to get to grips with the pitch in the early stages which along with Cambridges direct approach and aggressive high pressing led to errors in the circle and a couple of conceded goals inside the first 10 mins.
The defence consisting of Poppy Scott, Uma Patel, Hollie Blackham, Lucy Walton and Sophia Molineux gradually got the measure of the Cambridge approach and began to rebuff the Cambridge attacks. Once the press was bypassed Citys inside forwards India Fox and Evie Brockington were to find space and get the balls to the forwards Chloe Holmes, Olivia Kazimierczak, Mirabelle Harden and Alice Marjoram. As the half wore on City began to dominate though had to be aware of the Cambridge long balls to their high forwards.
With Cambridge focussing on attack they left space for the City attackers which Chloe and Alice exploited gaining entry to the circle and winning short corners. With a minute of the half remaining a City short corner was expertly converted by Lucy Walton with a straight strike.
Six minutes into the second half a slick passing move by City resulted in a goal. The ball was won on the left of the City defence and transferred round the back. It was moved forward on the right then passed inside into the Cambridge half to Alice Marjoram behind the Cambridge defence. Alice advanced into the circle drawing the goalkeeper before unselfishly slipping the ball to the rapidly supporting Chloe Holmes who finished into an empty net.
Just as it began to look as if Citys slick passing would carry them to a win Cambridges direct approach paid off when a long ball found a high attacker beyond the City defence who ran on to score. City mounted attack after attack but Cambridge defended doggedly. With five minutes remaining City gained another short corner, Lucy Waltons strike being turned in off a defenders stick to once again level the scores. Though City pressed for the winner they were unable to breach the Cambridge defence and the match finished level at 3-3.
A penalty shoot-out followed for the bonus point which Cambridge won 4-3.
A great game with great hospitality from Cambridge Juniors.
