TEAM: UNDER 14 GIRLS DATE: 10 NOVEMBER 2013 FIXTURE: NORWICH CITY v IPSWICH CUP: ENGLAND HOCKEY U14 CHAMPIOSHIP VENUE: TAVERHAM HIGH SCHOOL RESULT: NORWICH CITY 1 IPSWICH REPORT: City produced a gritty performance to clinch a narrow victory over a good Ipswich side in the England Hockey U14 Championship. It was Ipswich who started brightly with their two midfield players and right winger looking particularly threatening, posing danger deep into City territory. City were guilty of giving the ball away too easily and found difficulty in relieveing the pressure. Despite the Ipswich pressure the City defence managed to hold firm, Evie Wills, Lydia Ellis-Baumber, Louisa Crabtree putting in some good strong tackles and interceptions. City eventually started to find their feet, intitially relying on breaks down the flanks through Eliza Barclay and player of the match Emma Richardson. City, slightly against the run of play, then found themselves ahead. An initial shot was saved but the ball fell to Eliza Barclay on the edge of the circle who expertly placed her shot into the far corner. The goal gave City a boost, whislt deflating Ipswich and the tide began to turn. After the break City gained the upperhand forcing Ipswich onto the back foot. Flo Duffield and Emily Rash worked hard in midfield with support from Abbie Ingham to maintain the momentum. However, City were unable to increase their lead and as the final whistle approached City began to tire and were forced to defend again, Alice Beckett and Emma Richardson putting in some timely tackles. A good result that sees City unbeaten in their league so far. RESULT: W 1-0 SCORERS: Eliza Barclay POTM: Emma Richardson

U14 Boys continue success in National Cup
The Norwich City U14 Boys travelled to Saffron Walden for two tough games. First up was a top of the table clash with a very strong Cambridge City team. An end-to-end battle of the highest quality and huge amounts of passion and energy ended 2-2 with Cambridge twice coming back from behind. The boys followed this with a 6-2 win against Saffron Walden in a game Norwich dominated from the start. These results leave Norwich top of the table on goal difference from Cambridge with both teams having won three and drawn one. With two teams to go through, the result is in Norwich's hands in the final round of matches on February 10. All the boys played fantastically well, especially Fred Anthony who stepped into the goalkeeper role at late notice (and for the first time in a couple of years) and played really well. A full report is on the results page. Al Paterson
