WOMENS 1ST XI - 04/09/2021 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 04/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 04/09/2021 HEADLINE: City continue their strong preseason campaign against Bury 1s LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: CULFORD SCHOOL RESULT: 5-1 REPORT: Hot and muggy and missing a few key players the girls struggled to get momentum in the first 10 mins allowing Bury to dominate city's half. Regardless of the efforts city's defence and summers saves, Bury were able to take a 1-0 lead. This blow seemed to be enough to get City going and tactile 3 touch hockey and brilliant individual skills, we were finally able to play our own hockey which benefited from some beautiful play leading to a team goal scored by Ellie Brine. This was enough for city to dominate the rest of the game winning 5-1 with 2 goals from Ellie Brine and one a piece for Felicity Williams, Micayla Tootill and Niamh Campbell. All in all it was a brilliant performance by all the girls with a solid team win.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 04/09/2021 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 04/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 04/09/2021 HEADLINE: Cool play on a hot day LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE:Taverham RESULT:3-0 Win REPORT: With captain Georgia Cleveland back at the helm City 2s set out determined to retain their winning ways against a side that have been known to throw up a few surprises...but not today... City started out confident with the intention to upset the opposition early on. Lots of pressure and clever play saw City awarded a short corner. A perfectly executed routine and strike from Emily Francis put City up 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. Continued pressure and some nifty stick work saw City achieve several short corners but just couldn’t capitalise on them. City forward line up of Emily Francis, Gabby Sharp, Rosie Humphrey, Emma Hewitt and Milly Brown kept working relentlessly and were eventually rewarded with the next goal from a ball delivered by Gabby Sharp coming across from the right to be put in the back of the net by Emma Hewitt. City’s well organised and quickly set presses gave Dragons few opportunities to get the ball away cleanly and only the bounce allowed for the escaping ball to reach the midfield being quickly shut down by the tireless efforts of Georgia Cleveland, Dani Sizer, Emily Leeming and Lauren Lawrie who linked well with the forwards to create some nice passages of play. Dragons rarely threatened and the few break away attack’s that did reach City’s circle were swiftly dealt with by the solid defensive unit comprising Leigh-Ann Worrall, Sabina Baker, Sally Rose and ‘super sub’ Suzy Edwards under the clear vocal direction of keeper Georgina Barrett. The energy sapping heat started to take its toll in the second half and the play became stretched with periods of end to end play but City never gave up, pushing for more and spending a lot of time in the oppositions half. Another short corner routine saw Emily Francis again taking the ball and beating several players to tuck it w away for goal number 3 with a ‘touch’ from Rosie Humphrey just to make sure. Another great team effort and successful mission. POTM: Sally Rose

There was some excellent work and chances created on the right by our two new development girls Hollie Blackham and Chloe Holmes- what great additions these girls will be to any team. Some of us were brushing cobwebs and moths from our hockey kit before the match started but it certainly didn't show, with some strong fitness levels and lots of excellent passing and interceptions all round. We had many chances on goal but unfortuanately were only successful once when Hollie Blackham found the backboard. We look forward to playing some more friendlies together to get our formation a bit tighter before the league starts.

MENS 3RD XI - 04/09/2021 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 04/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 04/09/2021 HEADLINE: Shooting practice required LEAGUE: Friendly VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Norwich City 3s 2 - 0 Bury 3s REPORT: This entertaining pre season friendly provided an opportunity to give pitch time to a number of players that are now off to university and for others to put forward their case for third team selection. The game was played in excellent spirit fuelled by a home favourite “Mickey” playing for the opposition (to be fair it was his home club before he moved to City and then to the UEA where he studies). At the beginning of the match, manager for the day, Simon Black, declared he was going to count D entries to encourage the team to attack, this they did with great aplomb, but more on that later. City played very well as a team and created countless opportunities with Freddie Royall’s pace and decisiveness in defence enabling the midfield and forwards freedom and confidence to express themselves.. Young Tom Ling supported by the even younger Alex Tomkinson and Sam Hancock provided a constant source of space and potential for the attacking 5, most notably Monty Platt, Max McEwan, Ethan Rushton, Max Wilson and Freddie Paterson to harass the Burry defence and midfield. Somehow the score at half time was 0-0 despite City having 27 (yes twenty seven) entries into their opponent’s D. hmm!!! The second half saw Rob McCall and Andrew Bell, come into the ascendency and fortunately with goals room Monty Platt and Max McEwan City deservedly won but only two goals from a total of 59 D entries is nowhere near good enough and provides an easy focus for the week’s training! There really were some excellent performances, with Monty Platt’s maturity shining through in attacking midfield, Sam Hancock producing a debut to be proud of at half back, Seb Kimber making some fine saves and keeping a clean sheet, and Max’s McEwan and Wilson demonstrating their potential. However, the player that really caught the eye (apart form Young Tom Ling) was Freddie Royall who dovetailed very well will Adam Sayer at the heart of defence. This led to Freddie being named player of the match.

MENS 5TH XI - 04/09/2021 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 6 (H) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 04/09/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 04/09/2021 HEADLINE: Positive start for Norwich 5s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE:TRF RESULT:3-0 W REPORT: It was great to begin the season with a friendly against Bury and a good 3:0 win. Rees Leonard got us onto the score sheet with a great goal, giving us an early lead. This was followed by a second scored by Glenn Tobias. It was a game full of short corners for Norwich City and the second half saw many that came close to going in, but Bury put up a good defence and made some great saves. Later in the second half Paul Gallop snuck one in bringing the final score to a 3:0 victory, ending a great game where Norwich where dominant throughout.
