W (4-1) 31/10/2020 - W1 vs Watton 1 (H / L) PRE LOCKDOWN WIN FOR THE WOMEN'S 1S |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 31/10/2020 VS WATTON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Pre Lockdown win for the Women's 1s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: We knew Watton were going to be a physical team, but sadly Sophie Mullan got the worst of it! First half we were feeling a bit of the pressure from Watton but we won a free hit outside the 25 which gave Flic the perfect slide pass into Oli who deflected it in to make it a Williams goal. As we gained our confidence we were applying lots of pressure in their half, but Watton did have one player high which kept Suzy busy at the back. We kept applying pressure then won a short corner which allowed a lovely deflection from Krystal, which took us to 2-0. Half time came and we had a brilliant start to the second half, our forwards set a brilliant press which forced Watton to make errors. Another goal came from a short corner, which allowed Krystal to keep her goals ticking over, as she banged it in. Watton had a break in play and won themselves a short corner and got one goal back, but Stacey took on the whole of their defensive back line and got a corker of a goal and smashed it bottom corner. We kept the pressure high and tried to play to the umpires decisions and finished the game strongly winning 4-1 before lockdown.

L (1-5) 31/10/2020 - W2 vs Harleston Magpies 3 (H / L) HARLESTON HALLOWEEN HORROR 😬 |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 31/10/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: HARLESTON HALLOWEEN HORROR 😬 LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-5 Loss REPORT: This Saturday we took on Harleston 3’s for what was to be our last league game before lockdown 2.0. We knew it was to be a tough game with the league table proving tight towards the top and it didn’t disappoint. The first five minutes was end to end, with some chances arising for both teams, City struggled to find their usual rhythm but kept the energetic and well drilled Harleston side at bay. That was until a quick and mazy run from a forward resulted in Harleston taking the lead. Shortly followed by a second goal. Tapin’s half time Team talk gee’d us up and within a few minutes the of end to end play the score was 3-1 following a powerful short corner shot from Milly Brown being deflected into the goal in style by Helen Busfield. Sadly the Harleston team challenged for every ball and pressed high and strong and two more goals came for them. Ending the game 5-1. It wasn’t meant to be this week, but when we take them in the return leg we’ll be determined to grab those 3 points. POTM Emily Francis

WOMENS 3RD XI - 31/10/2020 VS COLCHESTER 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Wet weather doesn’t dampen team spirit! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Colchester Garrison Athletics club RESULT: 0-3 REPORT: Wet weather doesn’t dampen team spirit! So on possibly the wettest, windiest, most miserable Saturday of the season L3s were at Colchester looking for their first win. Wanting to build on last weeks impressive display against NCHC L2s, our L3s team started strongly despite the truly awful conditions. And in fact the team were amazing. Every single player raised their game and played with skill & determination. But, as has been the story this season, luck just wasn’t on our side despite the impressive team performance. We went into half time, wet to the skin and 0-2 down. The second half started equally as well, but Colchester were played their own powerhouse of a game and the L3s just couldn’t make headway. Final result 0-3, but a fantastic team performance from every single player who turned out in hideous conditions and held their heads up high. Onwards to next week!

WOMENS 5TH XI - 31/10/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: A great win. LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: When arriving at Harleston Magpies we were welcomed with strong winds and cold air, however Norwich City Women’s 5s didn’t let that bother them and brought their usual cheery, competitive spirit into the game against Magpies Women’s 6s. The game started off strongly for NCHC, lots of promising attacks, commitment, and strong structure gifted City with their first goal, hit from the top of the D by Matilda Hill. City Continued strongly throughout the first half, with brilliant defending from, Olivia Hill, Annette Peters and Allison Mclennan. Heading into the second half of the game, City had a 1-0 lead, smiles all round and everybody raring to go. City’s positive mindset proved successful as Millie Wimhurst scored City’s second goal early in the second half. NCHC kept a strong and confident structure throughout the game, providing many attacking opportunities, one of which led too City’s third goal nearing the end of the game, a reverse sweep from Matilda Hill. A positive end to the game for City. A brilliant game of hockey all around. Well done everyone!

W (3-0) 31/10/2020 - W6 vs Norwich City 7 (A / F) FRIENDLY WITH THE 7'S |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 31/10/2020 VS NORWICH CITY 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Friendly with the 7's LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT: 3 - 0 to City 6s REPORT: After a couple of losses the team were eager to get a win in this week. With great support from Pui Fong before the match we had a proper team warm up and a run through of certain areas with the whole team. This put us in a good place for the beginning of the match and got us focused and ready. 7's were strong and applied a lot of pressure in the first half, with their quick passes proving challenging at times. The first goal came from captain Emily Winter who drove in to the top of the D and scored far right of the goal. However, it has been admitted that this was supposed to be a pass to the attacker on the post but a goal is a goal! Enthusiasm up City 6's pressed on, playing the ball wide across the pitch. Second goal came from a short corner awarded to the 6's, which had numerous people playing a key role - Louisa Sizeland feeding a strong pass to Emily Winter who hit it to left post where Louisa Sizeland was positioned perfectly to tap it in, and all of this was directed by Ellis Couzins who advised the play and made a great call. Last goal or 6's came from our Player of the Match Obie Hansell who had driven it in to the top of the D and had a great shot on goal. Even though it was her first time playing with us she really got stuck in and was an asset to the team across the whole pitch. Her defense was incredibly strong, her mid field passing and progression of the ball amazing and her attacking accuracy was on point. Overall stella performance from Obie Hansell and a well deserved POTM. As a whole, the team played really well and due to some team management advice from Pui Fong we managed to implement a subbing system that created a smoother game and greater team synergy.

W (3-0) 31/10/2020 - LD vs Norwich Dragons (H / F) FRIENDLY AGAINST DRAGONS |

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 31/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Friendly against Dragons LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:3:0 REPORT: The Girls development team played a strong Dragons team this week. The girls started solidly & well with a lot of play on the ball but their attempts seemed thwarted by the 2 adults in defence. Dragons GK also made a few good saves. Finally just before the end of the first quarter their persistence paid off with a great strike into the D from Grace Hanworth-Knights which was converted in from the post. The girls battled on with some great runs up the centre from Grace Hanworth-Knights supported well by Chloe Holmes & India Fox. There was some great movement of the ball in midfield by Evie Brockington in the centre. However the Dragons defence held strong. There were a few quick attacks by Dragons but defenders Emily Morton & Niamh Rushton were superb at intercepting these & firing the ball back up into City's half. Eventually Grace Hanworth-Knights broke through the defenders to score 2 more goals & earn a very well-deserved POTM from her team. Well done Grace. The girls are obviously sad this may be their last game as a team for a while but we are sure they will be raring to go in a months time !

L (2-3) 31/10/2020 - M1 vs Old Southendian 1 (H / L) NORWICH GO INTO LOCKDOWN ON LOW AFTER 5 GAME WIN STREAK COMES TO AN END |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 31/10/2020 VS OLD SOUTHENDIAN 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Norwich go into lockdown on Low after 5 game win streak comes to an end LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2-3 REPORT: It was a cold and wet welcome to Norwich for Southend but they didn’t let that affect them and came at Norwich from the off. Fortunately we were able to stop most of their attacks and maintained control and build some momentum through dominating possession for most of the half. Both sides had a couple Short corners and passes across the face of goal but both Goalkeepers were equal to their opposition. But with 2 minutes to go an Alistair Cooke save fell to Felix Broadway who played a long ball forward to Chris Wardale who showed his skill to beat 2 defenders and reverse hit into the opposite top corner, Southends’ GK unlucky to lose his clean sheet to a wondrous strike. 1-0 HT. Happy to go in ahead but knew there was more in the tank to stamp ourselves on the game and secure the victory. The first 10 minutes of the second half were similar until Southend won a short corner and with a loopy & slow flick perfectly used to deceive the post man it was 1-1. The first halves hard work to build to that goal undone but if you give away 7 flicks, 1 is bound to go in eventually. Old Southendians doubled down on the hurt by 1 minute later breaking out of midfield with a really silk piece of play wide right, a ball across the face, deflection saved by Alistair but the rebound fell to an unmarked attacker for an open net finish. 2-1 Southend, Norwich now the deserved underdogs. Spent the next 10 minutes trying to regain our heads and build some momentum with Southend rightly sitting back to soak up our pressure. Luckily enough with 15 minutes to go we scored a similarly messy but well-earned rebound goal with Stu Wardle the one to plant the ball into the empty net. Even at 2-2 Southend continued to sit back and wait for their chance to pounce. And pounce they did, good internal press in midfield led to a quick counter similar to their second goal and with a deflection in they had the 1 goal with 5 minutes to go. We tried our hardest to get the equaliser but unfortunately our last minute luck clearly ran out in weeks 1 and 2 and it wasn’t to be. A good second half to watch but a very annoying one to now have to dwell on for 4 weeks for the team. Southend deserved the result and we’ve learnt a tough lesson that there’s no bad days allowed in Prem A especially when Wapping & Cambridge Uni are chasing hot on your heels for 1st place. Who knows what will occur with hockey post lockdown but one thing we know is we're more than in the hunt 1 point behind and nothing has really changed in who we need to beat, we’ve just lost our 1 mistake. Stay safe and stay fit over lockdown and we’ll be ready to go against whoever the league decide it will be!

W (4-2) 31/10/2020 - M2 vs Cambridge Nomads 1 (A / L) CITY TAKE THEIR CHANCE |

MENS 2ND XI - 31/10/2020 VS CAMBRIDGE NOMADS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: City take their chance LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Wilberforce Road - Pitch 3 RESULT: 4-2 Win REPORT: Following last weeks disappointing defeat to Cambridge City 4s, the travelling 2s were looking for redemption against a strong Cambridge Nomads side who were undefeated and sitting top of the table. A strong 15 man squad travelled with Ethan and Gabriel Marchant returning to the side with the rest all un-changed from last week. It was a very cagey opening 10 minutes as both sides looked to find their foot hold in the game however it was the home side who capitalized on some slack marking to score the opening goal. Both teams following this started to create chances and penalty corners and City levelled the score from an excellent Jeremy Elliot penalty corner flick. Both keepers were pulled into action before Cambridge retook the lead from a mistake in midfield leaving an overload and an unmarked forward fired home past keeper Elwes. City however were to go into the break at 2-2 with an excellent bit of skill and finish from Gabriel Marchant. HT 2-2 After the break and City were dominant for the first 10 minutes moving the ball around well and creating half chances, one half chances was converted as Jeremy Elliot converted another penalty corner. Following City's third goal this seemed to wake Cambridge up as they then put a lot of pressure on the City backline forcing keeper Elwes into some great saves. City however regained composure and made sure of the three points as they added a fourth goal as Josh Bailey fired home a low shot into the goal through the keepers legs. This result shows what this team is capable off if they can continue to take chances and sure up defensive mistakes. Roll on next week, or well roll on Lock down....

Exiles were allowed back into the game with two quick goals as City failed to mark and defend effectively turning the game on its head to give Exiles a 2-1 lead. City much the dominant team showed their class by putting two past the Exiles keeper via Rob and Alex after an excellent press and another well worked short corner routine before half time. City realised they could win this game due to their quality and game management after an effective chat at half time. City went out positively camping in Exiles half forcing a turnover and easy entry into the D. 4 second half goals (2 from Rees, 1 from Hindle and 1 from Freddie) led to a dominant and fully deserved City 7-2 victory keeping them top of the league.

W (8-0) 01/11/2020 - MC vs Bury St Edmund U18 (H / EH U18B Cup) SCINTILLATING EXHIBITION |
---|
COLTS XI - 01/11/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUND U18 (H) TEAM: Colts XI DATE: 01/11/2020 FIXTURE: Colts XI VS 01/11/2020 HEADLINE: Scintillating Exhibition EHA U18 Cup VENUE: Taverham RESULT: NCHC 8 - 0 Bury REPORT: The match started at a fast pace with Bury getting a relatively early shot on target that was comfortably dealt with by Bobby Rash. Norwich then went up the other end of the pitch and were awarded a penalty flick just as Jonty Black slapped the ball into the back of the net. Undeterred Freddie Paterson put the flick away well to make it 1-0 after just 4 minutes. City then settled into a good rhythm and scored three open play goals with Rafe Lochore, Monty Platt and Freddie Paterson benefitting from great creative interplay from Ethan Rushton and Robert McCall to make it 4.0 at half time. The second half started slowly but City then turned on the style with their passing and movement a joy to behold almost in spite of City’s managements sometimes creative substitutions. City turned defence into attack when Alex Tomkinson reacted well following Bobby Rash’s save from a Bury penalty corner to release Ethan Rushton on the right wing who calmly crossed for Freddie Paterson to complete his hat trick. In as much as the fifth goal was counter attacking at its best the sixth was pure individual skill from Ed Taylor who thwarted a Bury attack inside his own 23, ran the length of the pitch with astonishing 3-D skills, dummied a pass to Monty before hammering the ball into the back of the net. 6.0 The crowd were then treated to some end to end hockey as Bury valiantly attempted to find a consolation goal only to be denied by the indefatigable Bobby and an ever changing but equally steadfast midfield and defensive line including Cameron Husband, Elliot Fox, Rafe Lochore and Ethan Rushton. In the final quarter City turned on the style with Joseph Roy, Rio Iaccarino, Rocco Iaccarino and Jonty Black slicing through the heart of Bury’s midfield like a hot knife through butter. Moments later Rafe almost emulated Ed’s solo goal before a dazzling passing move saw the ball go from Rocco to Joseph to Jonty to Ethan to Jonty to Rafe who hammered it into the bottom corner. 7-0. Whilst much of the second half had seen attacking players have a turn in defence it was somewhat fitting that the starting centre back, Elliot Fox, should complete the scoring from a penalty corner during his cameo as a centre forward. 8.0 Whilst the score line emphasised City’s dominance Bury created a number of good chances but thanks to good defending and excellent defensive teamwork across the whole pitch they were unable to convert any of their opportunities. Ultimately a fantastic advertisement for youth hockey and players playing for each other as a team. Bobby Rash was named man of the match.
