D (2-2) 29/09/2018 - W1 vs West Herts 1 (A / L) NORWICH CITY 1S CONTINUE TO MAKE THEIR MARK IN THE EAST PREMIER DIVISION WITH A POINT AWAY AT WEST HERTS |

WOMENS 1ST XI - 29/09/2018 VS WEST HERTS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Norwich City 1s continue to make their mark in the East Premier Division with a point away at West Herts LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: NEW PLAYING FIELD, WATFORD RESULT: WEST HERTS 2, NORWICH CITY 2 REPORT: After a great start last weekend for Norwich City Womens 1st XI in their campaign as one of the newly promoted teams into the dizzy heights of the East Premier Division, this week it was a long away trip to Watford to play against West Herts. The game started with the usual rapid pace, both teams clearly wanting to set their mark early on the game, with lots of play in and around the middle of the pitch and a good midfield competition started to unfold. West Herts looked the stronger initially, a few flare players in their midfield causing a few problems for the City midfield, seeing a number of attacking opportunities causing the travelling defenders a few early challenges. The rearranged defence this week all working well together and found themselves adapting very quickly to ensure any attempts on goal were kept to a minimum. It was West Herts who opened the scoring with them taking advantage of a good break through from midfield and finding an unmarked player in the circle to guide the ball into the back of the goal. A goal that didn’t seem to phase the Norwich City side, continuing to push from the restart and starting to work the ball around the back to create a number of very close opportunities or last-ditch clearances. The game continued end to end, a great game for the side line crowd to watch, but it was City that eventually opened their scoring when a great run down the right saw debutant Sophia Basset work the ball along the base line to find school team mate Abbie Ingham at the far post to take a touch to control and lifted the ball over the sprawling West Herts keeper. The half time team talk focussed on the areas that needing to be tweaked and a few adjustments to the formation and tactics, the second half saw the work rate and intensity increase, both teams now clearly pushing for the winning points and the quality of the game clearly a step up from the first half. The constant rotations for City ensured the game continued at a high pace and both teams continued to give each other challenges, this time City managing to work some really good short corners but sadly great defending seeing them not quite sneak through. It was eventually West Herts who scored the next goal, City caught a little off guard and the ball eventually finding its way into the corner of the City goal with a mad last-minute scramble between the attackers and defenders. With minutes to play and after a fantastic out stretched stick save from Mikayla Glover in the City goal to keep the lead at only one goal, the City team dug deep and continued to fight to the finish. Eventually the breakthrough came, some great work by Micayla Tootill surging up the pitch from the back to earn a free-hit just outside the 23, allowing captain Jocasta Staines to step up and drive a firm and well placed ball into a packed West Herts circle for Krystal Bishop to put the much needed touch to deflect the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Both teams working extremely hard in the heat and a point for both reflective of probably a well balanced game, City once again showing they can play to the final whistle, now 4 points from 2 games and a well earned point from home. Next week Norwich City welcome Bromley and Beckenham to Taverham, a team that has started well with two high scoring wins in their opening two fixtures, definitely a test for the home side this week as they continue to get themselves prepared for what is proving to be a big step up from last seasons Division 1 standard. POTM: Mikayla Tootill

WOMENS 3RD XI - 29/09/2018 VS BROADLAND 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Holly hat-trick! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (away) RESULT: 2-3 (win) REPORT: Norwich City women's 3s got a winning goal in the final stroke of a nail-biting contest against Broadland 2s. Within a minute of the first whistle, City 3s opened the scoring with what must have been their quickest ever goal; debutante Matilda Butterworth sped down the right wing and crossed in to Holly Totten the goal scorer, to put their team ahead. Broadland weren't put off and equalised before half time. It was a tense team talk during the break, as City had battled hard and kept most of the possession in the first half, but hadn't scored since that opening minute. Holly then put City back in the lead with her second goal but again Broadland responded almost immediately to make it 2-2. City maintained control of the game, with some great play from defender Emma Richardson and player of the match Charlotte Baxter. In the final moment of the game, a determined City was awarded a short corner and then the final whistle blew, which meant the entire team came up to campaign for a winning goal. Their first attempt was thwarted by a Broadland foul, so City were given another short. Caroline Illing received the ball on the top of the D, passed left to Emma Richardson, who fired the ball in and Holly finished off the game with a hat-trick for her and a well-deserved win for her team!

WOMENS 4TH XI - 29/09/2018 VS DEREHAM 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Another frustrating game for the 4s LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Lost 3-2 REPORT: After a good pre game whiteboard session led by Sue we went into the game feeling positive and knew what we had to do. It started off a very even game with both teams failing to convert multiple short corners. Unfortunately Dereham were the ones who broke the deadlock mid way through the first half. City kept their heads up and Hannah Sangar managed to equalise deep into the half but then frustratingly Dereham went ahead again just before the break. At half time City were feeling it. With just one sub and some players who had played previous matches in the day it was clear that everyone was in need of the break and a handful of wine gums! The second half was much a repeat of the first. City were winning multiple shorts but just couldn't find that special something needed to convert one of them. Dereham however had more luck when one of their short corners deflected up a city stick and wedged itself under the arm of one of our defenders. The umpire deemed that she was stood behind the goal line and awarded Dereham's third goal. Later in the second half City managed to pull one back with a strike from player of the match Fran Cooke. This really lifted our spirits and the whole team fought until the final whistle for the equaliser that just would not come. Final score City 2, Dereham 3.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 29/09/2018 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Mother and daughter goals help give City 6s another win LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 4-2 REPORT: Norwich 6s gritted their teeth, jigged their formation to be more defensive and headed into the first 10 minutes at Dragon’s Den one player down! The team had turned up knowing they would need to play without a sub and with just the bare 11 , but unfortunate delays meant one player was unable to get there for push back and a last-minute sub couldn’t arrive until well into the first half. A few phone calls reassured the team that support was on the way so it was a matter of holding fast until then. Thankfully, City rebuffed any dangerous attacks and with 11 eventually on the pitch and an unexpected bonus sub on the bench, began to make wave after wave of attack on Dragon’s D. City's attacking play soon paid off when Julia Marchant deflected in a pass to take City ahead and Sarah Smith scored a second, hitting it neatly past the defenders and keeper to find the net. Dragons soon responded and began to press high up the pitch until they eventually pulled a goal back. Player of the match Emily Leeming made some amazing runs on the right wing and her hard work eventually paid off with a powerful strike to score City's third goal. Dragons threatened to equalise and throughout the match the lead never felt safe. The opposition launched repeated attacks on City’s defense with Dragon Bridget LeGood soon scoring a second goal for her team with a power shot from a short corner. Norwich struggled to hold their 3-2 lead in the closing stages of this exciting match, but Dragons looked increasingly dangerous. Thankfully, Maddy Smith made a supercharged run up the pitch, heading into the centre of the D and powering in an impressive ball just over the line. Much to the relief of the rest of the team, this secured a second win in two league games for City and a mother and daughter set of goals for the team. Final score 4-2 to Norwich. Player of the match was Emily Leeming, but Maddy Smith came in a tight second with votes needing to be recast a couple of times to work out who was the winner as both Maddy and Emily had played so well.

MENS 2ND XI - 29/09/2018 VS BROXBOURNE 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Deceptively quick for an old guy LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Broxbourne RESULT: lost 6-3 REPORT: Newly promoted City 2’s travelled to Broxbourne with the bare 11 for the Div one clash against an established Broxbourne side. The very picturesque surroundings & pitch seemed to calm City’s nerves. They started with good shape & well organised formation. Some great great distribution from the back from left & right halves Bailey & Fletcher. The pairing of Bingham & Fretwell interchanging well. With the influential Hindle mixing it well with the opposition. City broke with the usual Zig zag run of Cheesman from deep, before being fouled for a short corner. A Sam Bingham deflected strike puts city 1-0 up. City looked comfortable with the ever dependable Pallister & Crichton coping with any pressure applied by Broxbourne. Unfortunately City concede a short corner & Broxbourne capitalise to make it 1-1. City break from the right with a ball from Fletcher to the ever agile & deceptively quick Silvester who powers his way to the byline before cutting the ball back to the P-spot which hits a Broxbourne foot. Short corner given, a well worked short corner with a deflected strike from Hindle. City 2-1 up! Ben Millet in the City goal is tested on a number of occasions but with feline like reactions keeps City in the game. Broxbourne push forward in numbers to draw level 2-2 just before halftime. The 2nd half see’s a different Broxbourne team pressing higher & with greater numbers than before. Silvester & Cheeseman with some energetic & purposeful runs stretch Broxbourne. Fretwell & Bingham interchanging well. With Broxbourne making the most of their subs using the fresh legs available. Millet has to be on top form to make several successive saves. Unfortunately Broxbourne find a way through & take the lead 3-2 City are pinned back. The fresh legs of Broxbourne are starting to show 4-2 another goal shortly after 5-2. City gain a short corner. Another well worked corner results in a scramble,Crichton is first to react tucking the ball away to make it 5-3. Broxbourne make it 6-3 which slightly flatters their performance. City hold their heads up high in the knowledge that with a full squad & at home. The return fixture should cherish all 3 points!

MENS 3RD XI - 29/09/2018 VS LONG SUTTON 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Opportunities missed! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: City hosted Long Sutton 1s who have recently dropped down from Div 1. The action was end-to-end throughout the game, with City having the most of the ball. Early on, City won a a couple of short corners, which they failed to convert. This was to be the pattern of events for the rest of the match. A goal for City from International player Murray Breetske brought City level after Long Sutton had pulled ahead. A short corner was slotted away by Chris Perry who calmed flicked the ball into the net. Long Sutton managed to equalise with a precise flick from an obscure angle, meaning the teams were level at half time. The second half saw City have the majority of chances, with perhaps a total of short corners numbering in double figures, but nothing seemed to fall right to clinch the winner. The game finished a draw and City felt frustrated to have squandered so many chances. Certainly work to be done on short corners! Special mention to Sam Hyatt and Toby Pallister who played well and confidently throughout the game. MOM: Murray Breetske. TYFC: Tom Ling

MENS 4TH XI - 29/09/2018 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (H) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: City 4's make it two from two LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Won 3-0 REPORT: For Norwich City M4’s second game of the season it was a return to regular turf, as city welcomed Dragons 4's to a rather toasty water pitch! A rather tense start ensued, with a lot of possession City created many chances but didn’t quite have the final ball to finish it off. City did take the lead late in the first half after a well-executed short corner routine allowed Joe Konieczny to deflect the ball past the keeper. City then withstood a large amount of pressure before half time but created many opportunities on the break and should have been leading by 2 or 3 up before the interval. Halftime 1-0 After a rousing team talk by Captain John Ingham, City quickly extended their lead with a cool finish from Adie Land from the top of the D. The game was quickly put to bed with a slick move down the left hand side allowing Dan Jeffers to place the ball past the keeper. City continued to put pressure on a wilting Dragons side but didn’t quite manage to score a fourth goal. City's convincingly dispatched Dragons and already seem to be in with a shot of promotion. Jag Saran’s decision making and distribution at the back was excellent. Throughout the match Jonathan Pyatt’s and Alex Tomkinson’s superb link-up play created many chances coupling this with Mark Circuit’s infectious work rate proved a decisive influence on the match. Final score 3-0 to City MOTM: Alex Tomkinson

W (2-1) 29/09/2018 - M5 vs Newmarket 2 (A / L) MARK BAILEY SCORES A GOAL! |
---|
MENS 5TH XI - 29/09/2018 VS NEWMARKET 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: MARK BAILEY SCORES A GOAL! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Newmarket Leisure Center RESULT: 2-1 Win REPORT: Despite only getting a draw last week which could have very much been a win, City turned up to Newmarket wanting to play the high tempo hockey that they did against Ipswich. The pitch was very slow and City were almost caught out at the start with long hit-and-hope balls from the Newmarket defence/midfield. This was shortly undone with the introduction of Monty Platt, who with some great link-up play with inners Elliot Fox and Nathan Cordon, managed to get the ball to Freddie Paterson. Freddie took an excellent first touch, danced around three Newmarket defenders and placed a reverse stick strike past the keeper. 1-0 City. City maintained a lot of the possession for the remaining time of the half, with good passing play around the defensive and midfield areas controlling the game. Just before the stroke of half time, City had the game under control as Mark Bailey picked up the ball in the D and took a shot on goal. It didn't go in, but luckily the keeper passed it back to him and he had another go. This happened a further three times before Bailey decided he actually wanted it to go into the goal and then there it was, 2-0 City and half-time. Right at the beginning of the second half, Newmarket managed to get the ball into City's D. The forward bulldozed his way through Cordon who made a great defensive tracking run, and after a goalmouth scramble, managed to get the ball in the goal. No foul given, 2-1. Controversial. City then managed to see the game out to the end, with Elliot Fox fantastically controlling the game at the end, completely slowing the game down, and man of the match Rueben Cooke making some vital interventions in the closing minutes. A well-played game and fully deserved win for City.
