WOMENS 3RD XI - 29/03/2025 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 29/03/2025 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 29/03/2025 HEADLINE: The last hurrah LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Magpies RESULT: 2-0 L REPORT: And there it was, the last game of the season, it has come around very fast. A bloomin’ nice pitch, and no better reason, than to all go out with a blast. And blast we did! With very fine form! It was a match to be very pleased. Till Magpies tried hard to get through our defence and a goal was limped in by a squeeze. Jo was obstructed, the umps didn’t see but we took it and got on with our scheme. What a fantastic unit, to all work together, a quite remarkable team 💛💚. And tackles were had, and passes were made, and the oldies kept moving it round; And the young’uns were running, using their speed, so opportunities were being found! But having held them at bay, for THE longest of time, Magpies found our goal again; But yes we defended, passed accurate too, and kept control on the ball in the main. Wow! The sides of our diamond, Phoebe and Corinne, were masters of running the line, All the way up and all the way back, tackling time after time after time. Helen, Rosie and Alice attacking upfront, had goal attempts thwarted, boo hoo! Lottie, Chloe and Marie were switching it round and midfield were pushing it through. Longy and Katie and Bambi and Jo were kept busy for a lot of the time. Keeping up, digging in and with confident calls of “no, that one is mine”. Then after the match when sat down being social, and reflecting on just what had been, There were some funny comments, that now I will share, not one of them meant to be mean. (and also because I was told last night to include them!!) Oh what a pass Katie did far out wide, a great hit for Longy to meet. Just a shame that she wasn’t on the pitch at that time - off to specsavers for Katie tout suite!! “In reflection,” said Corinne, “I did run a lot, maybe one thing I could think for next time, Would be to make sure that I keep an eye out and don’t run it out over the line!” And Helen got twitchy, shouting “stop hitting me” as the oppos lifted high one more time; And the apologies came, more than a few dozen, until Helen said “shush, I am fine!” And then that was it, our running all done, the last match was over and played. We’ve hit, slapped and pushed, lifted and dragged, and so many chances made. We’ve welcomed players a plenty from the 2s and the 4s, and those that live far away, You’ve helped make our team the best it can be, and sometimes you have saved the day. What a season we’ve had, greatly captained by Bambi, we’ll fight again soon one more day. There is only one thing left I can say, well played all, great team work and hip hippity hooray!
