LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: St Albans RESULT:3-2 REPORT: Norwich City Womens 1s travelled to St Albans in true away day spirits with only one thing in mind... staying in PremA. With essential wins required from the last few games, City new what they had to do. The weather held out and St Albans have a lovely hockey set up so the team was feeling positive. After a powerful team talk by head coach Matthew Brine, City went one-nil up in the first few minutes and with this flurry of excitement quickly snuck a second in. St Albans were not to be deterred, they responded with some excellent movement down the wings and on winning a short corner brought it to 2-1. Nothing could sway City today, a win was what they came for and with some unbelievable defence work, Susie Edwards picking anything that came to her, the ball worked its way to the D via Sophie Mullan loving her Centre Mid role today, Alice and Ellie both persuing the goal and then... 3-1 up! With less than 10 minutes past, St Albans brought the score to 3-2! Was this going to be it? The highest scoring PremA game to have been played!? No. Back and forth continued for the rest of the game, fear from both sides, was City going to lose their discipline? No. Were St Albans going to tire? No. A hard fought match by both sides with the final score 3-2 to City and special mention to some exciting cards and feistiness from both sides - what a game. Goals: Ellie, Olinand Krystal.

W (2-0) 29/02/2020 - W2 vs East Coast 1 (H / L) WHAT A WINDY WIN |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 29/02/2020 VS EAST COAST 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: What a Windy Win LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-0 Win REPORT: After a challenging but encouraging training match against the 1’s on Wednesday the Womens 2’s were determined to bag a win against second in league East Coast. City were out of the blocks from the get go putting pressure on East Coast from left, right and centre. Georgia Cleveland dribbled down the right hand side and spun the ball across the D through several East Coast players eventually making its way to Lizzie Cheesman’s stick who carefully placed the ball past the goal keeper scoring the first goal. But City were hungry for more. The forwards weaved in and out of the East Coast defenders and Rosie Humphrey found herself with shot on goal only for the whistle to be blown for a short corner just before it went in. Despite this minor set back City were determined to take advantage of the short corner and score. A well practiced routine saw our fabulous captain Leigh-Ann Worrall perfectly connect with the ball from the top of the D. The ball fired straight through an East Coast players legs for it to make the ever satisfying sound of the ball hitting the backboard. An exhilarating first half performance left city to go 2-0 up at half time. After a positive team talk from coach Chris Wardale City were ready to strike again. The second half consisted battling with not only the opposition but the wind too. Every attack from East Coast was absorbed by our strong defensive back line who made quick work of passing the ball onto the midfield. The midfield fought hard despite it being a physical game Helen Busfield stood her ground without any cards in sight. More end to end action continued however neither team was to score anymore leaving the game to end in City's favour. A great team performance by the Womens 2’s and crucial win in the promotion race for 2NE. POTM Georgia Cleveland

WOMENS 3RD XI - 29/02/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: Greenway sisters hat-trick LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 3-0 (win) REPORT: A strong women’s 3s team turned out, despite the blustery weather, for a good competitive game against Dragon's 4s. City got off to an encouraging start with some excellent passing and great use of the entire pitch. After continuous hard work, the first of the Greenway sister’s three goals came from Olivia just before half-time. Play continued during an equally strong second half by City, resulting in some great runs down the wing, some lovely attacking play and two more goals. Firstly Emily Greenway deflected the ball in to make it 2-0 to the hosts, shortly followed by another goal from her sister Olivia. The Greenway hat-trick, combined with some good defensive play from the back, including a solid performance from POTM Mia Edmond, meant a clean sheet for City and a 3-0 win.

L (0-3) 29/02/2020 - W4 vs Evergreens 1 (A / L) AN UNFORTUNATE LOSS |

WOMENS 4TH XI - 29/02/2020 VS EVERGREENS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: An unfortunate loss LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams School RESULT: 3-0 loss REPORT: This Saturday the squad faced a tough opposition playing evergreens in the cold with another day of strong wind. The first half saw City dominating in play. We pushed on through the poor conditions to create multiple good opportunities. Although we were not able to convert in attack, the whole team made a very strong defensive effort. We prevented a goal from the opposition up until the last minute when a short corner turned into a very strong penalty flick from the Evergreens captain. Boosted by a late goal in the first half, Evergreens turned the tables to create some opportunities of their own, coming out 3-0 winners by full time. This was a disappointing result for City as the score did not reflect the rest of the match, which could have gone either way. A very well deserved POTM to Sabina for consistent and strong defending

D (1-1) 29/02/2020 - W6 vs UEA 3 (A / L) A DRAW AND A HARD-EARNED POINT AGAINST HIGH-PERFORMING, SECOND-IN-TABLE UEA |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 29/02/2020 VS UEA 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: A draw and a hard-earned point against high-performing, second-in-table UEA LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA Sportspark RESULT: 1-1 REPORT:This was a fast-paced game, played in freezing, wet conditions, against an almost unbeaten second-in-the table UEA. An energetic and youthful home team, with a 16-strong squad to keep their legs fresh, pressed hard into City’s defence area from the off. Within a few minutes they had found the net, catching Norwich off guard and unfortunately scoring with a powerful top D strike. City regrouped, found a better rhythm and steadied their nerves to hold off the home team despite repeated forays into City’s D – and with sweeper Emily Winter and goalkeeper Beth Wiskin frequently called into play to fend off dangerous attacking balls threatening to find the net. Despite, UEA’s pace and skill, City managed plenty of attacking play. Eventually, a well-positioned Julia Marchant attempted to find the net twice, managing to keep the ball away from the skilful UEA defenders. Then hard-working POM Susan Matthews picked up one of the rebounds and powered the ball into the net. A delighted City went into the break even at 1-1. City upped their game in the second half as they began to work out UEA’s set pieces and patterns of play – and who were their key players. This half saw more attacking play from City, and also some serious threats from UEA, with the home team thankfully just missing a tip-in from a short corner. City managed to hold their nerve and play a steady game, holding the ball high and then mopping up the frequent fast breaks by UEA, until the huge relief of the final whistle. A much-needed, bonus point from a clash with the high-performing UEA. Shout out to the excellent umpiring by the two UEA match officials who were impressive and fair.

L (1-3) 29/02/2020 - M2 vs Norwich Dragons 1 (A / L) CLOSE DERBY THAT SHOULD OF BEEN A DRAW REALLY! |

MENS 2ND XI - 29/02/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: Close derby that should of been a draw really! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: The Den RESULT: 3-1 Loss REPORT: City went behind went Dragons scored from a penalty flick, following a foot on the line. City equalised from a well worked PC to make it 1-1 at half time. Both teams created numerous chances in both halves and I have to say it was a very even game when a draw would of been fair. However Dragons scored a rather fortunate deflected PC and a wonder third goal on the reverse to seal a tight 3-1 victory. We will see you next year for two more I would think close matches...

MENS 3RD XI - 29/02/2020 VS IPSWICH EAST SUFFOLK 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: Sunshine and showers LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: NCHC 3s 4 - 4 IES 3s REPORT: Fortunately the headline has nothing to do with the weather, which turned out to be dry and sunny, but more a metaphor for our first and second half results. In the first half we were sublime with a delightful Adie Land/Nick Hooper move allowing Adie to add to his seasons tally, cancelling out a somewhat opportune opener for the visitors. City then dominated the half and demonstrated a never say die attitude that saw them muscle the ball over the line THREE more times (two for Nathan Taylor and one for Tom Bailey). Adie Land was quite literally sublime in this oprening 35 minutes. The second half started in much the same fashion with City hitting the post twice and missing a stroke before the tide turned. Well, to be honest the tide didn’t turn but the scoreline did. As City legs tired (no surprise given that Alex Tomkinson, Tom Bailey and Elliot Fox had all played a massive school cup game in Nottingham yesterday and another school match this morning before heroically helping the 3s out) IES found gaps and benefitted from some clinical finishing despite some heroics from our ever youthful back three (Chris Key, Simon Black and super keeper Guy Thrower). 4-4 felt like a bitter pill but this was a point that may prove pivotal come the final reckoning. Big shout out to the umpires for letting the game flow and to Cameron Husband for his tackling and the irascible Paul Roy, who must be (along with Pete Morgan) the club’s doppelgänger for a Peter Pan!

L (1-8) 29/02/2020 - M4 vs Norwich Dragons 2 (A / L) A GAME OF TWO HALVES |

MENS 4TH XI - 29/02/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 29/02/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 29/02/2020 HEADLINE: A game of two halves LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragon's Den RESULT: Lost 1-8 REPORT: The least said about this one the better! On the back of some heavy recent defeats, and City's M4's firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, it was no surprise that a tough day at the office was to be expected at their City rivals City had only a bare 11 as sick-note Holden failed to report for duty due to an overnight bug! Debutante Cameron Hancell stepped up to the task and never looked out of place Anyway, to the gory details; City's first half performance was one of resilience, commitment & desire. Tom Cooper converted between 2 Dragon's goals to see the score 1-2 at the break. The second half was a totally different story with Dragon's raising their level and City succumbing to the pressure. Six Dragon's goals resulted and City were on the wrong end of a 1-8 loss and confirmation of next season's hockey to be played one league lower! Special mention to Seb Kimber in goal, who showed a special level of confidence and promise for one so young
