LADIES 1ST XI - 28/10/2017 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 28/10/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 28/10/2017 HEADLINE: Late goal from Magpies breaks City’s undefeated run. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF, Norwich City HC RESULT: Norwich City 2 – Harleston Magpies 3 REPORT: Norwich City Womens 1’s welcomed Harleston Magpies 2’s to the TRF in a highly anticipated match due to both teams having won all of their league games so far. City knew that if they played their attacking, free flowing hockey then they had a good chance of winning. City started brightly and dominated possession in the first ten minutes, putting Magpies defence under pressure from both wings. Some slick interplay down the right, led to Oli executing a well timed pass to Krystal and a one-on-one with the goalie, which she coolly dispatched on her reverse to give City the deserved lead. This caused Magpies to step up a gear and play very assertive hockey in City’s half. The defensive unit of Summer, Sally, Suzy, Harriet, Dani and Fongy stood strong and absorbed many of the Magpies attacks. Yet, City struggled when trying to play their way out of their half, with panicked and rushed passes being easily intercepted by Magpie players. A Magpies injury resulted in a much needed break and team talk with coach Pies. Simple and accurate hockey was needed if we were going into half time in a strong and winning position. Once play resumed, City upped the tempo and were passing more consistently and were unfortunate when a Magpies free hit and lapse in judgment resulted in a goal. Goalie Summer pulled off some stunning saves to keep the score at 1-1 for half time. City started the second half strong with their midfield line of Jo, Micayla, Ange and Flic working tirelessly up and down the pitch, turning defence into attack. However, with some calls unluckily going against City, Magpies scored from one of the several penalty corners they gained. This was the motivation City needed to play penetrative attacking hockey. The momentum swung in City’s favour and an excellent passage of play down the left wing and into the Magpies D where Krystal lobbed the goalie to make it two a piece. With the clock ticking down, both teams pressed for a winner. The forward line of Emily, Oli, Ellie, Abbie and Krystal used their skill and pace to produce some excellent runs down both wings, one which finally resulted in City’s first penalty corner. Magpies defended well and quickly had several penalty corners of their own. After initially successfully defending numerous of Magpies short corner routines in a row, City were unlucky to concede one with five minutes to go. City worked vigorously in the last five to find an equaliser but it was not to be. City will hopefully bounce back from this defeat with next weeks away match against UEA. Final score 2 -3, POTM went to Krystal Bishop.

MENS 1ST XI - 28/10/2017 VS IES (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 28/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 28/10/2017 HEADLINE: City struggle to break down IES defences LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION B VENUE: Ipswich RESULT: 3-1 REPORT: Following on from last week’s 3-0 victory over West Hearts, Norwich City travelled to a so far undefeated Ipswich-East Suffolk (IES) team in good spirits. The game started franticly with both teams creating chances at either end of the pitch. It was IES who broke the deadlock from a deftly executed short corner routine, catching the Norwich City defence unawares. City responded well but unfortunately the courageous defending on the goal line from post man Louis Preston could not prevent IES from doubling their advantage just before half time. After half time Norwich city battled their way back into the game through the tireless work of Nicholas Jones and Player of the match Cameron Cooke. The hard work from city paid off as a short corner goal from David Skinner pulled the game back to 2-1. The goal from city triggered a spirited comeback and with momentum on their side were in search of that last-minute equalizer but despite their best attempts they were unable to break down the ever tightening IES defense. In a frantic and scrappy end to the game Norwich saw their last-ditch attacks fall victim to a quick counter from the IES forwards as the Suffolk team were able to restore their two goal cushion for the closing moments of the game. The disappointing result leaves City 5th in the table but with a game against bottom of the league Cambridge University 2 XI they will be hoping to pick up three important point to get their promotion campaign back on track.

MENS 2ND XI - 28/10/2017 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 28/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 28/10/2017 HEADLINE: City hang on, just about..... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TAVERHAM H2O RESULT: 2-1 Norwich City REPORT: City welcomed Harleston 3’s this week hoping for 3 points after a disappointing result the week before. City started the game with intent, moving the ball around quickly and playing the hockey they know they are capable of. 15 minutes into the half City broke into the D with a great move that was finished on the volley by Pete Morgan, the man in the right place at the right time. City continued to create chances and it wasn’t long until they had a second. A well worked counter from City was finished off calmly by Dan Phillips, who slotted the ball under a rushing Harleston keeper. HT City 2-0. After a very positive half time team talk, City started the second half where they had left off. However, Harleston came out firing, upping the intensity and keeping the City defence on their toes. Mid way through the second half Harleston scored a very good goal leaving Ben Millett in the City net no chance. This goal shocked City and led to a period of sloppy hockey with Harleston having chances to level the game, only to be denied by some fine saves from Ben Millett. City created some late chances but were unable to extend their lead. Some great defending from the City back four was enough to close the game out. Final score 2-1 City. Overall, City will be happy with the result but will know that they can play a lot better than they did in the second half of this game. In future weeks City will have to find a way to carry over their first half performances into the second half. MOTM: Sam Bingham TYFC: Alex Scott

MENS 3RD XI - 28/10/2017 VS UEA 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 28/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 28/10/2017 HEADLINE: City move up to 3rd with comfortable away win LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: UEA RESULT: 4-0 Victory REPORT: City went into this game sitting 4th in the league despite having played a game less than the three teams ahead of them. City yet again had a big squad but lacked defenders and relied to Chris Perry returning to his roots and stepping in at centre back. City played some excellent hockey in the 1st half with Tom Nichols, Chris Perry and Tom Ling distributing the ball and keeping it well at the back, with some excellent running from half backs Ali Shearer and Jake Cushion. City's 1st goal came from some excellent play down the right hand side following a good passing, which saw the ball along the backline and then across goal for Rees Leonard to slap home. A 2nd was soon to follow with a great ball in Ben Cushion which may of been going in but Rees Leonard made sure with his 2nd of the game. City continued to play well and some how didn't add to their tally before the half way mark, with Harry Gill having a goal disallowed for some unknown reason and their keeper made several good saves from Leonard, Gill and Withers, who all had efforts on goal. Meanwhile at our end Jake Aisthorpe had one save to made in what was another spectator performance. In the 2nd half City continued to play well with Tom Nichols doing some excellent passing and some brilliant tackles, City continued to make chances with Gill again forcing the keeper into a save as well as numerous short corners just going a miss, however eventually the radar was retuned and Leonard found the bottom corner for his hatrick. City weren't done though and kept on pressing and Lloyd Sayer scored a great goal to make it 4-0 City could and should of made it 5 with a short corner in the final minute, but they settled for 4 and their first clean sheet of the season. Next week a big game at home to IES 3s.

MENS 4TH XI - 28/10/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 28/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 28/10/2017 HEADLINE: Dragons have wings clipped LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1:1 REPORT: Week 6 in Division 3 NE League saw Norwich City 4s entertain a Dragons side for the second time in 3 weeks. With the opening exchanges level in desire and chances, it was the visitors who made their possession count first, scoring from a far post jab past the City keeper who narrowly missed his save. Having conceded a soft goal and looking a little nervous, City struggled to make any possession count during the rest of the half and went into the break a goal down. The second half started brightly for the home side and more direct play was rewarded with a succession of penalty corners. Unfortunately none of these reaped any rewards which allowed Dragons to push their way back into the game. With time running out, City again pushed for an equaliser and finally scored when another penalty corner routine saw Haran and Brine combine for the latter to sweep home from close range. Although both teams pushed for the win, neither produced enough quality to edge the game and take all 3 points. City MOM: Freddy Hooper

MENS 7TH XI - 28/10/2017 VS UEA 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 28/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 28/10/2017 HEADLINE: Yong legs defeated by even younger legs LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: UEA SPORTSPARK RESULT: UEA 4 2 NORWICH CITY 7 4 REPORT: City's juniors took on the young legs of the students who as expected were full of running. However, it was the superior skills of the City juniors and old heads that won the day. City moved the ball about nicely though a yard of extra pace would have been useful on occasions. City took the lead in the first half through the experience Jim Pallister and followed up with a second from Rio Iaccarino. After the break the students drew level, but City were not to be outdone Monty Platt scoring with a neatly struck short corner and Nick Hooper also scoring from a short corner.
