W (3-2) 26/01/2019 - W1 vs Sevenoaks 2 (A / L) CITY LEAVE IT LATE FOR DRAMATIC WIN OVER STRUGGLING SEVENOAKS |

WOMENS 1ST XI - 26/01/2019 VS SEVENOAKS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 26/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 26/01/2019 HEADLINE: City leave it late for dramatic win over struggling Sevenoaks LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: SEVENOAKS, KENT RESULT: CITY 3, SEVENOAKS 2 REPORT: City leave it late for dramatic win over struggling Sevenoaks For the second weekend in a row, City made the long 3 hour trip to Kent, this time venturing to Sevenoaks. With a later than usually push back of 3pm, City had a short but dynamic warm up in the Kent drizzle. City were raring to go from the first whistle with City having all of the possession and attacking play in the Sevenoaks half. Within the first 10 minutes, City had a plethora of opportunities to take the lead. Some lovely one touch passes by Oli Williams set up Krystal Bishop who was unlucky not to have scored, with one shot going over the bar and the other going slightly wide. City sustained the pressure in the Sevenoaks D and finally broke the deadlock when Sophie Mullan worked her magic down the right side bar line and pulled it back to the P spot to an unmarked Bishop for a tap in. 1-0 City! Sevenoaks finally settled into the game and a quick thinking aerial behind City’s defence allowed a Sevenoaks player to run the bar line and pull it back to a waiting Sevenoaks forward to tap in. 1-1. City had a couple of short corners but were unable to convert and were also reduced to 10 men for 2 minutes with a green card awarded for a stick tackle and an injury to Williams. Half time: 1-1. City knew they were the better team and needed to take their chances in the second half if they were to return to Norfolk victorious. However, it was Sevenoaks who started the second half looking the more likely team to score with an effective high press causing problems for City. Nonetheless the solid defensive unit of Harriet Johnson, Pui Foung Chung, Suzy Mitchell, Micayla Tootill and goalie Mikayla-Mae Glover kept Sevenoaks at bay. After another attack from Sevenoaks, an early defensive hit out from City allowed them to break down the left-hand side. Irene Ramirez used her silky skills to go past several players and passed to an on running Bishop who drilled the ball home from the top of the D. 2-1 City! This lead was unfortunately short-lived. Another high press from Sevenoaks forced a mistake from City which allowed Sevenoaks to penetrate the D with 3 against 1 and another tap in. 2-2. The game got scrappy and City received another two green cards for ‘back of stick’ and a stick tackle. Yet, City’s hunger for the win grew as the match went on and were pressuring the Sevenoaks defence with their own high press. Some excellent midfield work by Mullan, Ramirez, Jocasta Staines and Alice Gill created some teasing shooting opportunities for Bishop, Williams, Ellie Brine and Emily Francis, who were unlucky to not capitalise due to some good saves by the Sevenoaks goalie. To add to the drama, with five minutes to go the floodlights decided to turn off. While waiting for them to turn back on, City regrouped and knew they could get the must needed win. As light reappeared, City pushed for the winner in a tense final five. With a minute to go, City received a free hit just outside the Sevenoaks D. A quick free hit by Brine caught Sevenoaks off guard, with the ball finding Francis who did a cheeky reverse pass to an unmarked Bishop at the far post for an easy tap in to make it 3-2. City celebrated as the final whistle blew seconds later. A deserved win for their determination and winning mentality that hopefully can be taken forward to next week’s home game against Chelmsford. SCORE: 3-2 MOTM: Krystal Bishop

City knew that and came out fighting. The hosts worked well to weave and pass around the Magpies defence, beating them on speed and gaining a couple of one on ones with the goalkeeper. Unfortunately City couldn’t convert. Magpies showed some great individual skill and then trickled in a lucky goal by Cassie Ayms in the first half. A good battle followed but without further scoring, making it 0-1 for the visitors.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 26/01/2019 VS BROADLAND 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 26/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 26/01/2019 HEADLINE: Finally a win to build on LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: NCHC Womens 6s finally recorded a long awaited win to help them in their fight to stay away from the relegation zone. Some excellent passing and linking of their midfield secured the win. The only goal of the match was scored in the 33rd minute when Holly Lloyd took the ball from midfield and dribbled into the D, and her subsequent cross was quickly put into the goal by Louisa Sizeland. POTM Emma Guyton worked hard in defence, supported by another strong performance by right half Alice Petch. Broadland kept the pressure on throughout though with some last minute scares for NCHC which they managed to defend.

L (1-2) 27/01/2019 - LV vs Bishops Stortford O45s (A / EH W45+3) GREAT SCOTT! ...AND GOOD TEAM PERFORMANCE AGAINST STORTFORD WOMEN'S MASTERS |

WOMENS MASTERS XI - 27/01/2019 VS BISHOPS STORTFORD O45S (A) TEAM: Womens Masters XI DATE: 27/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens Masters XI VS 27/01/2019 HEADLINE: Great Scott! ...and good team performance against Stortford Women's Masters Our Womens Masters’ squad headed to Bishops Stortford for a battle of the quarter finals of the Over 45’s competition. After a long journey we peeled ourselves out of our cars and negotiated the maze of the College grounds. We were expecting a tough match with Bishops Stortford boasting a 9-0 win in their previous round. The first half started with City venturing into the oppositions 23rd within the first few minutes, then the wind changed and it was belted down the pitch for a foray of failed opportunities for Bishops Stortford. The majority of Stortford’s play was channelled through a couple of players through heavy hitting and hopeful deflections but these were no match for City’s goal keeper Serena Scott (our player of the match with an incredible performance) picking up all angles of shots like ping pong and deflecting them with style. Short corner after short corner was awarded to Bishops Stortford, one flicked away, another one cleared off the line, another one defended away, another cleared away some incredible defending by City. Now, Stortford were gathering pace and with another short corner awarded we had a goal mouth scramble which led to it being pushed over the line by the opposition. We entered half time 0-1 down but heads were high. Quick draw on the oxygen for us and we headed into the second half......... The first 20mins of the second half was predominately in two thirds of the pitch with a constant flow of shots on goal which were belted away. Our mid fielders were pulled back to bridge the gap and keep them at bay it was hard going but enjoyable! With 15mins to go Stortford came on the attack with a high ball pinging high in the air it was brought down by the player on the post, and backed into the keeper slipping it sideways to make it 2-0. Our heads remained high and with grit and determination up the other end it went, with Carey’s neat pass to Nic who was waiting patiently, she beat the defence and slipped it sneakily around the back of Stortford’s keeper. With 11 mins to go, City pushed high and fought hard but unfortunately despite all efforts accepted defeat at 2-1. Thanks to Bishops Stortford for fantastic teas and good luck in the semi-final against Canterbury!

W (4-1) 26/01/2019 - M1 vs Saffron Walden 1 (H / L) CITY TRIUMPH IN RELEGATION BATTLE |

MENS 1ST XI - 26/01/2019 VS SAFFRON WALDEN 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 26/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 26/01/2019 HEADLINE: City Triumph in Relegation Battle LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: NORWICH CITY 4 SAFFRON WALDEN 1 REPORT: City came out on top in this fixture against the team immediately below them in the relegation battle and the three points sees them move five points clear of the bottom two and also move above Cambridge City 2's. Coach Ali Wardale was pleased with the overall performance particularly the manner in which the team started each half following the poor start to last weeks match. City were two up inside ten minutes, the first coming from Stu Wardle who slapped in from an acute angle after Jack Inghams initial shot had been saved, the opportunity stemming from a Tom Cooke long corner that had been discussed during the week. The second came when Ed Sutton picked up the ball just in side the 25 and drove to the goalline before crossing to give Pete Morgan a simple tap in. With the promise of further goals City lost the composure they had started with and started to head goalwards resulting in lots of turnover. However, towards the end of the half City started to move the ball around regaining the upper hand. Ten minutes into the second period City extended their lead as Cameron Cooke collected the ball on the left and made headway to the left corner holding the ball up before expertly finding the supporting run of Josh Bailey at the top of the circle who finished clinically. The three goal lead was short lived as Walden pulled a goal back following several missed City tackles. City maintained their work rate and snuffed out the majority of the visitors threats and adding a fourth late in the game to secure victory. A long weighted ball down the left by skipper Louis Preston was chased down by Cameron Cooke who once again picked out the rapidly arriving man of the match Josh Bailey to add his second. Bailey was denied his hat-trick just before time when Cameron Cooke elected to shoot rather than pass to his unmarked colleague.

MENS 2ND XI - 26/01/2019 VS OLD SOUTHENDIAN 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 26/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 26/01/2019 HEADLINE: Lets move onto next week LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Southend RESULT: Lost REPORT: I think the less said about this game the better, so I will keep this report short. The 2s travelled to 2nd place Southendians expecting a tough game but as ever full of optism and McDonalds skipper Hindle was hopeful of some points. A very poor first half which saw some poor marking, passing and pretty much everything saw the 2s 2-0 down as the break. A brigther 2nd half saw the 2s play some better hockey but again as shown in previous weeks finishing was just way off target, Southend took their few chances well in the 2nd half scoring 3 well worked goals before City finally got on the scoresheet with a great surging run from Jim Pallistar setting up Jeremy Elliott with a good finish past the keeper. FT 5-1 The best thing i can say about today is that hopefully we won't have to visit Southend next season.

L (0-5) 26/01/2019 - M3 vs St Ives 1 (A / L) CITY DIDN'T MAKE IT EASY FOR THEMSELVES.. |

MENS 3RD XI - 26/01/2019 VS ST IVES 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 26/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 26/01/2019 HEADLINE: City didn't make it easy for themselves.. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: One Leisure Outddor Centre, St Ives RESULT: 5-0 loss REPORT: City travelled to St Ives with 12, ( yes that's right, a sub!), after Nathan Corden and Henry Baker valiantly stepped up to make sure City had enough players to field a team. After drudging through the monotonous roadworks of the A14, (Skipper Adam Sayer making a mental note to return to Norwich via Ely), City arrived, warmed up, and were playing within 7 minutes of the previous game ending. St Ives definitely took advantage of being the home side, putting City under pressure from the start. It wasn't long until St Ives opened the scoring, finally beating keeper (and MOM) Ben Millet, who had been keeping City in the game. It also wasn't long until St Ives knocked in another 2 goals... City knew they had to get their game heads on and work hard if they were going to stop any more goals. Rees "I can chuck an aerial really far" Leonard worked well with fellow centre back Simon Black to marshall the City defence, and Rees set a new Guiness Record for the amount of aerials thrown in one game! Well done! Cameron Husband and Nathan Corden provided outlets down the sides of the pitch, whilst Skipper Adam Sayer attempted to hold off the St Ives attack down the middle (judging by the scoreline, not very well!). Tobias Leonard and Will Kidner worked tirelessly throughout the game and were key link players between the midfield and forwards. City had a couple of moments in the second half where they tested the St Ives keeper; with a few short corners and a reverse stick shot from Dan Jeffers. Sadly for City, the relentless attack of St Ives, benefiting from a number of subs, were able to over run the midfield on numerous occasions and passed the ball into the goal. Special mention to Toby Pallister, Henry Baker and Jonty Black, all whom worked hard and didn't give up throughout the game. Next week City face local rivals Norwich Dragons 1s. MOM: Ben Millet - Excellent saves and work rate.

W (5-1) 26/01/2019 - M4 vs Felixstowe 2 (H / L) STOWE STUMPED AS LAND SCORES FOURS |
---|
MENS 4TH XI - 26/01/2019 VS FELIXSTOWE 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 26/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 26/01/2019 HEADLINE: Stowe Stumped as Land Scores Fours LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 5-1 Win REPORT: City welcomed Felixstowe this week with a rapidly depleting team and one that was steadily increasing in age. With injuries, 3rd XI call ups and New York trips, City had the bare 11 with no outfield player under the age of 30. Never mind, City certainly had experience to call on and this showed early in the match. City started the game in complete control with a clear intent to drive forward, although passing was sometimes rushed and not well placed. With Joe 'touch of a...' K joining the 35 stone forward line this week, some members of the team obviously felt that passing an extra yard wider into the space would not be a problem. Or in the case of Nick 'lumberjack' Hooper many yards wide or completely fumbled. It is fair to say this wasn't his finest performance. Although his performance was below par, his attire for teas was certainly not. I've got a tree that needs felling, can I have your number? City crafted the first of many good chances with Adie 'The Deflector' Land missing possibly his only effort of the day after a super cross D pass from Mark 'perfect slide' Circuit. Soon after City found the back board only for an earlier infringement to finally be called to disallow the goal. The first goal did come after a Chris 'Sore back until April I believe' Perry injected into the D for Land to deflect past the oncoming keeper. A lovely team goal made it two after Land found Perry, whose 'insanely' good reverse pass found Joe who in turn found Land to tap home. Perry got on the score sheet next with a crisp shot after Joe had stolen the ball off an awful 16. City could have been 6 up at half time had Joe not completely fluffed his effort when in acres at the top of the D after good work from Land. Haren 'heads!' Patel was frustrated with the selfish Perry after he felt he was positioned better. You were never getting that, it is like playing with Pies! City resumed after half time hoping to play better hockey and likely double the score line. This didn't exactly go to plan, although the result was never in danger. Felixstowe defenders stopped two short corners on the line. Perry and Circuit could not beat the handy Stowe keeper and there was a couple of atrocious reverse stick cross/shots with those spectating by the clubhouse in greater danger than the score line increasing. Simon 'Cafu' Dale is becoming a real threat in the opposition D. Having already scored this season, he flattened the keeper in the first half before rushing forward only to find the outside side net when sliding in. City did find a fourth when Land was able to turn, move past the keep and slot home. The fifth was another Land deflection after Paul 'terrier' Roy had sent a pinpoint ball into the D. Another solid display from him with an amazing work ethic will be greatly missed if he swaps Norfolk for Nuremberg next week. Don't do it, your captain needs you! Unfortunately the final 10mins saw City slack a little. Maybe the average age of over 40 did not help the cause. Felixstowe scored a consolation before threatening further. Ben 'Damn quick in GK kit' Nkrumah outpaced Stowe forwards and City defence all game long to ensure chances were few and far between. Circuit saw green for a two footed slide. Like Hooper, unfortunately that particular slide was not the Circuit of old. Yellow all day long. There was still time for one last opportunity which Land provided on a plate for Joe. Let's just say that had Joe visited a rotating sushi bar yesterday, he would have gone home hungry! To be fair, he hadn't played since the reverse fixture in October, where he was given a yellow while playing in goal. A very enjoyable game and a good laugh to be had after. NB No offence was intended in the making of this report.

Norwich started well moving the ball around the pitch with great pace. They took the lead through a reverse stick shot from Marcus O'Sullivan; the lead was stretched first through a James Cross drag flick and then a solo dribble and reverse stick shot from Toby Pallister. Norwich could have extended their lead when Henry Baker's was fouled in front of goal following a driving run. The resulting penalty flick rebounded off the cross bar. Minutes later Henry smashed a powerful openside shot into the corner of the goal only for it to be ruled out by the umpires. The second half did not provide any let up for Saffron. Any attacks were snuffed out by Archie Ward, Farren Miller and Sam Hancock. Sam Hyatt and Krishna Patel passing ability exposed weakness in the Saffron Defence; Max Wilson and Ollie Millett's pace kept causing constant problems for them; The dynamic Freddie Smith never allowing Saffron midfield to settle; second half goals came for both Duncan Mallett (2) and Jack Whitlam. All in all a quiet game for Seb Kimber in goal!
