WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/11/2025 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 1 (H)    TEAM: Womens 3rd XI  DATE: 01/11/2025  FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/11/2025  HEADLINE: City 3s vs Bury 1s  LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST  VENUE: taverham  RESULT: 1-7 loss    REPORT:City were in the mood for a great day of hockey with the sun shining and tunes raising the spirits. As the ball pushed back city worked solidly out from the back up the wing to find our goal hungry Helen in the D who secured an early 1-0 lead against a formidable Bury side. The oppositions fire was lit and they fought for a short corner that was defended solidly by Lola running a speedy first man and Alice on the post. The bury side equalised and city reset ready to take on a very dynamic attacking team. The city midfielders worked collaboratively to build play through possession and solid passes with El J and Jen held back the offensive press. However bury broke through and got 2 more goals before halftime. With heads still held high, the press working effectively holding back bury with great outletting from Marie and Chloe. Bury eventually broke through with a player breaking past the back line to make it 1-4. Jo had some impressive saves from Bury shortcorners that were unconventional and some pretty great shots. After taking one on the calf, a follow up short corner made it 1-5. The last goals came in quick succession despite the combined efforts of the forward line and the midfield push from Marie, working 1-2s with El up the pitch. Holding the press to the very end, the final score was 1-7 but did not reflect the skill, attitude and prowess of the city side today. Well done to all as we really pulled together as a team to keep morale high and the scores low.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 18/10/2025 VS BROADLAND 1 (H)    TEAM: Womens 3rd XI  DATE: 18/10/2025  FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/10/2025  HEADLINE: End to end thriller  LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST  VENUE: Taverham   RESULT: 5-4 win for NCHC L3    REPORT:City started off strong, determined to bring home the 3 points after a few narrow losses. We distrubuted the ball beautifully from the back, sending it wide to go towards goal, leaving Holly with the chance to bang the ball into the goal just a few minutes in. Shortly after, as city continued to dominate possession, we were able to get another quick goal with Lola flying into the post to deflect a shot from Holly, bringing the score to 2-0. Broadland then began to come back, fighting in the counter attack and managed to get through to our defence where Jo made some incredible saves although, one near miss brought the score back to 2-1. With a win still in mind, city bounced back with some great runs and interceptions to win a short corner, scored by Phoebe off a rebound from the keeper. The game staying close, broadland’s long balls got through on the break to level it back to 3-2. To finish the second half in confidence, using some awesome skills, Lola secured her goal number 2 to bring the score to 4-2. After a strong team talk and freshly cut oranges from El, City was ready to keep fighting going into the second half. Some composed defensive work from Alice, Lotte and Leigh-ann saved city from many pressurised situations although one moment of lost concentration brought the score back to 4-3. However, the game took another turn as some smooth transfers and quick runs took broadland off guard, we managed to score another goal to bring the score to 5-3. The game getting very intense with increased pressure broadland began to get closer to goal, with a stop on the line giving them a flick to shoot the ball into the bottom left corner closing the score to 5-4. With just a few minutes to go, City focused on possession and passed the ball around until the final whistle. Overall, a great win for city and some impressive performances from everyone, well done guys!!

WOMENS 3RD XI - 04/10/2025 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A)    TEAM: Womens 3rd XI  DATE: 04/10/2025  FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 04/10/2025  HEADLINE: Disappointment for the 3s at the Den  LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST  VENUE: Dragons Den  RESULT: 2-3 loss    REPORT:    On a blustery morning, our 3rds started strongly against Dragons 3’s, playing the ball around with confidence and creating chances, but unfortunately we could not take the advantage. On one of their first breaks, Dragons took the lead from a goal line scramble, before adding to their total from a quick break. City heads did not drop, despite losing our skipper from the field due to an injury, and Harriet’s determination paid off as she pressed and won the ball back setting up Anna for a composed finish. In the second half, Dragons extended their lead from a questionable short corner, which fired City up further. Jo was on fire in goal, quickly coming off her line to shut down any further opportunities. Some superb work on the left from Jen and a pinpoint ball from Lotte created a well deserved deflection for Harriet. City continued to apply the pressure, winning short corners until the end, but unfortunately we could not find the equaliser. Final score 2-3.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 27/09/2025 VS LODDON 1 (H)    TEAM: Womens 3rd XI  DATE: 27/09/2025  FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 27/09/2025  HEADLINE: Close match for City 3s vs Loddon  LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST  VENUE: Taverham  RESULT: Lost 3-4    REPORT:It was a tough game yesterday at home against a strong Loddon 1s side. From the beginning we matched their intensity. We fought hard, goals coming from Hollie, Mollae, and Helen, each finishing with composure after excellent build-up play through midfield. The link-up passing created chances throughout the match, another 10 minutes and a draw was definitely achievable. Loddon are known for being both physical and well-drilled and they lived up to that reputation. Our defence faced constant pressure from their main striker, but we stayed composed, making tackles and interceptions to keep us in the game. Our midfield worked to close down space, and our forwards didn’t stop putting on pressure until the end.  Even though the result didn’t go our way, our teamwork and positive energy were clear for everyone watching.   There are lots of positives to carry into next week and for our next Loddon fixture, our resilience and determination showing, a great start to this season. Well done everyone 💛💚

WOMENS 3RD XI - 20/09/2025 VS IPSWICH 3 (A)    TEAM: Womens 3rd XI  DATE: 20/09/2025  FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 20/09/2025  HEADLINE: Winning start for 3s  LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST  VENUE:  RESULT:2-0 win    REPORT:match report:    What a start to the season! The dream team was out and in Helen’s words “playing like we were in a cup final”! We started as we meant to go on, creating lots of brilliant chances (including a fairly clear goal…) and dominated possession all the way through the first half. A brilliant goal came from a lovely build up from the whole team and was very very well deserved to end the first half with spirits high. Fuelled on some super tasty oranges we didn’t drop the intensity at all in the second half and got the goal to show for it, bringing the score to 2-0. A strong fight to the end kept their goals out and we secured an amazing win - well done everyone and let’s keep the undefeated streak going!
