W (2-0) 25/01/2020 - W2 vs Yarmouth 1 (A / L) SEAS THE DAY |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 25/01/2020 VS YARMOUTH 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: Seas the Day LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Cliff Park Ormiston Academy RESULT: 0-2 Win REPORT: We arrived at a chilly Yarmouth eager to nab our third win in a row. After a thrilling warm up by the one and only Lizzie Cheeseman, we were pumped and ready to start the game with a bang. A short delay due to an umpiring mix-up (shout out to Tapin for stepping in and saving the fixture) wasn’t enough to hinder our perfomance, and we dominated play from the whistle. Some slick passing and effective transfers - despite an unforgiving pitch - saw us quickly get the upper hand with Yarmouth seeing very little of the ball. However, some ruthless tackles from Yarmouth in our attacking D kept us at bay for the start of the half. Whilst frustrated in knowing we were the better team, we didn’t let this affect our game, and some well-worked passing down the right hand side of the pitch allowed us to get the ball in the danger zone for long enough for Emma Hewitt to slot the ball expertly into the backboards. We carried on fighting, determined to make this a convincing win, but Yarmouth were able to hold us to just one goal till the half time whistle. After a positive team talk, we were ready to go again. Although Yarmouth changed their tactics to have at least two if not three players high at all times (making transferring the ball that bit trickier), we weren’t deterred. Some silky skills from Niamh Campbell and Lizzie Cheeseman left the Yarmouth defence more and more fatigued. This allowed Helen Busfield to send a rocket ball into the D, finding Emma Hewitt’s stick and resulting in a textbook deflection goal. Special mention must go to our two fullbacks - Leigh-Ann Worrall and Hannah Nunn - who were able to keep the threatening Yarmouth forwards at bay when the odd counter-attack fell in their favour, as well as keeper Serena Scott who managed three perfectly executed smothers to keep a clean sheet. A well-deserved win and a great team effort - and made all the better with a post-match beach trip complete with chips, slot machines and fresh donuts! POTM: Ellyn Roberts

W (5-1) 25/01/2020 - W3 vs East Coast 2 (A / L) ANOTHER CONVINCING WIN FOR CITY |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 25/01/2020 VS EAST COAST 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: Another convincing win for City LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: East Coast RESULT: 1 - 5 Win REPORT: City 3s faced East coast 2s away this week. It saw City starting slow with a few scrappy passes, but they got it together and started to win a number of short corners. After a few practice runs, we eventually got the hang of the slow pitch and one of the shorts resulted in Lauren Lawrie scoring to get city on the score board 1-0 city. With some great fast pace runs from Mia Moore which lead to another short corner where Gabby Sharp was there for a great deflection. 2-0 city at half time. In the second half Liv Greenway opened up the scoring to make it 3-0 city. Some great work by the whole team led to one of many more short corners. Sally stepped up to the top of the D and took an awesome strike to make it 4-0 city. With some great defensive work by city we were unfortunate to concede a penalty stoke for East coast 2s which they converted to make it 4-1 city. Some questionable decisions from the umpire saw Keeper Anna Linsmith receiving a green card and a spell in the sin bin for challenging their decision. City stayed strong and kept the ball until they were back to 11 players. Winning yet another short corner for city saw player of the match Emma Richardson slot it home with a great left slip to end the game on 5-1 city.

WOMENS 4TH XI - 25/01/2020 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: 2-1 to Loddon LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Home RESULT:2-1 to Loddon REPORT: A strong performance for the 4s despite the 2-1 loss. The defence did a cracking job keeping them out of the D. And thanks to excellent defending from Karen and Sim, Loddon’s attack had limited chances from open play. After a tight start with some good close passing and attacks from city, Loddon won a penalty corner which was well-executed. The 1-0 nil lead gave Loddon confidence and they were able to score a second. City went into half-time knowing we had more to give. A positive and constructive team talk meant City went out determined in the second half. Good positioning, confidence on the ball and 1-2s from defence and midfield meant City kept more possession and chances started to come. The forwards and inners worked relentlessly to create space and City’s constant pressure and accurate passing resulted in a well-deserved goal from Caroline. City dominated the 2nd half and created a number of opportunities. So a loss but a great game and lots of positives to take into next weeks game. Very well deserved player of the match to Alex woods for great running, commitment and creating lots of opportunities in the D.

MENS 2ND XI - 25/01/2020 VS PELICANS 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: Very close game against 2nd in the league! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-0 Loss REPORT: Pelicans once again have proven tough opposition this season with heaps of experience and quality in their team. City 2s can be very proud of their efforts in this game as a very scrappy first half goal for Pelis meant they sealed a very tight game at Taverham 1-0. Pelis player of the match going to their GK for his wonder saves in the second half which meant that City couldn't quite get the equalising goal they deserved.

L (1-3) 25/01/2020 - M3 vs North Norfolk 1 (A / L) CITY YOUTH SCARE LEAGUE LEADERS |

MENS 3RD XI - 25/01/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: City youth scare league leaders LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE:Cromer RESULT: City 3s 1 - 3 North Norfolk 1s REPORT: After slow start our form improved leading to an early goal. A straight ball from Joseph Roy found Alex Tomkinson on the run around the penalty spot who deflected the ball into the roof of the net. North Norfolk found it hard to live with the pace and ball retention skills of this young Norwich side but somehow we failed to extend the lead. The second half was harder with North Norfolk (the league leaders) pressing hard. We still had our chances but could not convert them. Sadly North Norfolk took theirs with the game ending in a 3-1 loss. Hardly a fair reflection of the play. My most memorable moment was Luke Elwes (GK) selling their striker with great stick stills.

L (4-6) 25/01/2020 - MD vs Harleston Magpies (A / L) CHANCES GO A MISS... |

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 25/01/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES (A) TEAM: Mens Development XI DATE: 25/01/2020 FIXTURE: Mens Development XI VS 25/01/2020 HEADLINE: Chances go a miss... LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 6-3 REPORT: Harleston Dev v Norwich Dev Harleston started off on the front foot using a strong midfield setup and placing a lot of pressure on the Norwich side which led to two early goals. City began to get back into the game by the latter part of the first quarter, passing the ball well and having several shots on goal but thwarted by the Harleston keeper. 2-0 Into the second quarter and City took on another goal unfortunately but City worked relentlessly to try and get one back and through continuous chances City finally scored and started a come back. 3-1 Into the third quarter City played well when attacking with some lovely passing and running of the ball but we still struggled to defend as a team and were finding it difficult to hold Harleston which lead to a couple more goals against us. City never gave up and in total had many more chances than Harleston to score and with several chances saved or the ball just missing the Harleston goal City did managed to score. 5-2 On reflection City could have been level with Harleston by the amount of opportunities but it was a game where the ball just didn’t want to go in. Into the last quarter we switched to a different system which worked better against Harleston, holding their midfield and we could attack in numbers and defend more solidly leading to us scoring two more goals and limiting Harleston to one more goals against City bringing the final score to 6-4. The City dev boys did really well, they never gave up and fought back against a very strong Harleston team.
