LADIES 1ST XI - 22/10/2016 VS OLD LOUGHTONIANS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Old Loughtonians RESULT: 0-2 L REPORT: Norwich were looking for further points out of their match against Old Loughtonians; confident that this could be achieved, spirits were high and City was ready to perform. Unfortunately City was unable to gain any points from the following 70 minutes of play. Norwich started strong, with the majority of the possession, however weren’t able to score to take the lead. Following a period of positive pressure, Old Loughtonians managed to turn the tables in the second quarter of the game, breaking down the defence a handful of times to provide them with two goals in quick concession, enabling Old Loughtonians to take the lead into the second half. The second half was a much stronger half from Norwich City, the majority of the play was in Old Loughtonians half of the pitch. Player of the match was Emily Rash, who impressed with her confident play across the midfield. Despite some excellent shots played towards the goal, nothing could be converted and the game ended goalless for Norwich. With plenty to work on, Norwich now moves onto next week as a team, looking to gain further points in a challenging and enjoyable league.

LADIES 2ND XI - 22/10/2016 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: Hartland treble secures City win LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 0-4 Win REPORT: This week saw City travel away to Dereham 3s for a drizzly afternoon encounter. City were in high spirits after warming up to the tunes of 90’s pop favourites S Club 7 and seeing club umpire John Ingham actually arrive on time this week. City started well and it wasn’t long before their efforts were rewarded when Hartland scored her first of the afternoon. A strong short corner strike finding the bottom corner of the goal. City then added to their tally before half time when a breakaway attack found Hartland within a sticks length of the goal line, she gratefully tapped in to go two goals up. Half time came and City were looking good, feeling confident and walking over to the goal with ‘Reach for the Stars’ still ringing in their ears. City made a few tactical tweaks and retook the field of play for the second half. Not long after the restart City gave away a suspicious short corner, a stick tackle that no one but the umpire saw. The decision angered City veteran Dagless who subsequently received a green for her protests. City adjusted well to being one player down and it wasn’t long before City got their third. Jarvis wriggled her way into the D and her shot come pass was deflected in by ‘guess who’ Hartland who was ready to complete her hatrick. City’s fourth and final goal came when El’ Capitano Humphrey pushed her effort passed the keeper from around the penalty flick spot. The win was secured and City finished the game feeling pleased with their efforts. City go into the half term break playing well and unbeaten from their first 6 games.

LADIES 3RD XI - 22/10/2016 VS EVERGREENS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams School RESULT: 2-0 (W) REPORT: Norwich City 3rds were keen to bag all three points this week, having been only able to pick up 1 point the week before. Unfortunately City were slow out of the blocks, letting Evergreens dominate in the opening 20 minutes, however the City's Keeper and defensive unit worked hard to ensure that Evergreen's opportunities were fruitless. Jenni Stanghan opened the scoreline for City after finding herself with an opportunity for a strong strike at the top of the D and made absolutely sure it slotted home firmly. A superb strike from Rachael Cave from a short corner gave City the second goal putting the score at 2-0 at half time. An uplifting half-time team talk by coach Matt ‘Pies’ Brine helped City focus and ramp up the tempo in the second half. With the midfield now engaging early, the young City forwards could create more great opportunities, many nail bitingly just missing the target. The final goal of the game came from a brilliantly worked short corner routine by City who made the Evergreens defence chase the ball around the D before finally finding Emily Greenway on the post to deflect the ball into the netting. Player of the match was awarded to Anna Brook.

W (2-1) 22/10/2016 - W4 vs Carrow 1 (A / L) A GAME OF TWO HALVES |

LADIES 4TH XI - 22/10/2016 VS CARROW 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: A game of two halves LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Langley School RESULT:2-1 (Win) REPORT: Norwich City Womens 4’s visited bottom of the table Carrow Womens. Welcoming back Flo Duffield and the ever versatile Olivia Broadway, the game commenced and we were quietly confident that we would follow our brief and come out on top. The first half did not go quite according to plan and the 4’s conceded a sloppy goal which set the tone for the remainder of the first half. It was a relief to hear the half time whistle where a change of tack was clearly needed. In a tactical move, the formation was changed and the improvement was immediate. It was wonderful to watch the game unfold ‘our way’ with great passages of play and possession, directed by Kim Lusher and Lydia Ellis-Baumber in defence meant Edie Mason didn’t touch the ball once in the second half. Great passing from Rachael Phillips working her magic at the top of the ‘D’ found Flo Duffield who opened the scoring for the 4’s. We were now on a level playing field and rearing to go, pressing and applying the pressure. Penalty Corner opportunities went amiss and Carrow Womens were camping out in their half, making that final penetration difficult but a great diagonal pass from Ellyn Roberts in central midfield found Rachael unmarked and with several deft manoeuvres, she found Flo who slotted the ball neatly home to give the visitors their well earned lead. The Womens 4’s have learnt the hard way in previous encounters this season and needed to kill the game off to secure their 3 points. This was duly adhered to and secured the Womens 4’s their victory. A great all round team effort. POTM to a well deserved Rachael Phillips.

It took a while for the first goal as the Herlings goalkeeper played very well and made some excellent saves. Sophia Bassett scored two goals before halftime. Starting the second half very upbeat the goals kept coming, further goals came from Sophia Bassett, Fiona Spencer, Emily Spencer and Charlotte Gundry. Bev Cushion shot from a slip at a short corner at an extremely acute angle to also add to the score sheet. Some great team play from Ellie Hobden and Charlotte Gundry who both had great games. Well played also to Kitty Davies who took her marking role very seriously working at 100%. Well played Alice Moore in defence who made some great solid tackles. The end result was a 9-0 win keeping us in first position in the league. Well done Bev Cushion who was players player of the match. We look forward to our next match of the season against Evergreen on the 5th of November.

W (3-0) 22/10/2016 - W6 vs Evergreens 2 (H / L) ANOTHER WIN! |
---|
LADIES 6TH XI - 22/10/2016 VS EVERGREENS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: Another win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-0 Win REPORT: First half Norwich City 6s had the best of the play in the first half but luck wasn’t on the home team’s side and they struggled to net several chances. Meanwhile, strong defending kept Evergreens at bay, including some essential work from Carey Briggs playing centre back for the first time to make good use of her speed and fitness. Midfield and the Norwich defence unit worked tirelessly to ensure there were no Evergreen overloads in the home team D. Several hit-and-hope outlets by Evergreens on 16s shifted the play towards Norwich’s goal end but the ball was soon cleaned up and cleared out. By the half-time whistle Norwich had nothing on the score sheet to show for their work, but several almost-goals by Norwich’s hungry and hard-working attack line, and not much trouble for the home team keeper, made it seem as if a goal would eventually come. Second half A team talk from captain Julia Marchant helped Norwich maintain their shape in the second half. Evergreens’ attacks consistently came down their left flank and Norwich risked being pulled across, losing an option to switch play if need be. Norwich also prepared themselves for a beefed-up Evergreens side as the visitors subbed on a first team player. However, she failed to make much difference to the side, thanks to some strong defensive work from Norwich including some impressive tackles and clearances from midfielder Jane Loughridge. At times Evergreens also failed to keep their sticks tight on the ball when receiving, allowing space and time for Norwich to steal it from them and make yet another attack. Norwich continued to have the best of the play with a much better shape in the second half, although still unable to switch direction of play as well as they usually do – perhaps due to the predominance of one-sided left attacks by Evergreens. The home team pressed even harder in the second half and finally their relentless attacking paid off when Julia Marchant netted a ball slipped through several defenders and into the D by Fran Cooke. The second goal came when Lucy McNarry scored a skilful reverse-stick goal from a rebound off the keeper. With just 10 minutes left of play, Sharon Phillips sent in a cross which was netted by Josine Van Den Berg to take the home team to a three nil victory. POM Jane Loughridge

It was a comfortable win against Magpies, who before today’s game were yet to concede a goal this season. Eloisa Ford scored from close range for Norwich in the first quarter after a baseline run was netted after a few passes around in the D. Norwich had plenty more chances but failed to convert further attacks although they continued to have the best of the play. In the third quarter Magpies fought back and looked likely to score, but Norwich held them at bay with some strong defending and remarkable tackles and passes from player of the match Maddie Smith. With just seconds to go before the end of the third quarter Kate Houldey slapped a ball through several Magpies players to Abby Flatt in the D. Abby neatly slotted the ball to Frances Byrne who netted the ball behind the keeper. The game ended at two nil . POTM Maddie Smith.

MENS 1ST XI - 22/10/2016 VS IES (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: City produce first clean sheet of the season LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION B VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: After last weeks disappointing result City faced another tough test in IES 1's this week with their second home game in as many weeks. In an evenly contested first half City managed to take the the lead through what proved to be a decisive goal towards the end of the first half. Quick thinking from Louis Preston after being fouled outside the 23 resulted in a fast ball through the IES defence to Dave Skinner who in turn slotted the ball through the on rushing goalkeepers legs. Giving City a 1-0 lead going into the interval. The second half was again another tight affair with City initially trying to force the ball and making unnecessary errors as a result. A quick stoppage in play allowed City to attempt to refocus and go back to 2/3 touch hockey, however further mistakes and diving into challenges allowed IES to create more chances and as a result further penalty corners. However the defence stayed strong with Ali Cooke in goal ensuring City's first clean sheet of the season. Next week City face a league and cup double header with Cambridge Uni 2's in the league and Fareham of National League Conference West for a spot in the next round.

MENS 2ND XI - 22/10/2016 VS UPMINSTER (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: City have a Downer in Upminster LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Coopers Company & Coborn School, Upminster RESULT: Norwich 1-2 Upminster REPORT: City travelled to Upminster with a bare 11 and soon found the quicker starting Upminster difficult to contend with. CIty soon got going and were unlucky not to take the lead with Cheeseman, Silvester and Shearer causing havoc amongst Upminster's defence. It was however Upminster who took the lead after a rebounded shot meant their striker could walk it in. Chances came and went for both sides, but the defences held strong and it was Upminster who went into the half time break 1 goal up. After Captain Hindle’s half time words of wisdom, City started the second half the better team. Their high tempo play was soon rewarded when Ingham ran onto a superb through ball from Hindle, a short pass later to Cheeseman who calmly reversed the ball past the oncoming keeper. 1-1. As the game wore on, City’s lack of substitutes began to tell and Upminster were able to take advantage with a counter attack when poor defending lead to Aisthorpe being disappointed to let in the winner. 1-2. L (2-4) 22/10/2016 - M3 vs UEA (H / L) A GAME OF TWO HALVES.... |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 22/10/2016 VS UEA (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: A Game Of Two Halves.... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham High School RESULT: Norwich City 3s: 2 - 4 : UEA REPORT: The match started with a very high tempo, unfortunately this was more in the UEA’s favour than Norwich City. Norwich City found it very difficult to keep hold of the ball throughout the first half handing UEA the ball on too many occasions and not valuing possession when it was necessary. With many ball handling mistakes occurring around the pitch it was only a matter of time before UEA capitalised on this. The first came from a quick counter attack by UEA down their left flank, despite being pushed wide when entering the circle the resulting back hand strike beat Millet at his far post. This lead was then doubled minutes later when Perry and Leonard were unable to deal with a loose ball in the circle which the UEA capitalised on and slipped it past the keeper. Norwich settled down a little bit as the half went on but were unable to mount any meaningful attacks to challenge the UEA keeper. The UEA went on to score 2 more goals before the half finished leaving Norwich a real mountain to climb in the second half. The half time team talk was quite easy for the city captain with only one main point to make, which was to keep the ball and not give it away cheaply. Norwich started the second half with a different formation in a hope to shut out the UEA attack and help build play through the midfield. The last reminder to the team was about showing the determination and passion that had been showed in the weeks before and show the character of the team... Norwich went out in the second half like a new team, the defensive team of Perry, Leonard, Taylor and Esterhuizen put a stop to the UEA attacks and keeper Millet cleared up those that slipped through the new net. The midfield team of Frettwell, Phillips, Brine, Jackman and Patterson found themselves with more time on the ball and able to build play through the channels and the centre of the pitch allowing for more meaningful attacks and chances within the circle for Brine and Cooke. Norwich were able to get one of the many goals needed half way the through half when a good attacking move down the right flank found Brine who’s initial shot was saved by the keeper the deflection however not leaving the circle only for Paterson to pick up on an acute angle and with a well struck back hand shot took the ball high into the net. Norwich did not let up after this and a new found energy emerged. Minutes later Philips found himself in a one on one with the UEA keeper after some quick passing and some close personal skill, however the resulting shot was stopped by the oncoming UEA keeper. Again minutes later Cooke was able to find the net with an outstanding back hand shot from the top of the circle, Cooke with an impressive run from the left hand side of the pitch across the top of the circle beating a few players, initially loosing the ball to a tackle he was able to win the ball back and get the shot off quickly leaving the UEA keeper with no chance of a save. City had a few more chances before the end of the game to close the score margin but were unable to capitalise meaning the game ended 4-2 in favour of the visitors UEA. This was certainly a game of 2 halves and City will be unhappy to have taken nothing from this local derby game. Norwich will travel to March for next week’s game and must learn from the mistakes made in the first half of this game if they want to take any points off of March.

A further goal by Haren Patel via a penalty stroke put City into a 3-0 ahead. This spurred IES into action, and with a penaly corner converted by Tingey and a further open play strike from Simmons, the game was in the balance at 3-2. With only 10 minutes left to play, City played their best hockey of the match. Fluent passing and movement allowed only scraps of possession to IES and when pressure did come on the City goal, a resolute defence and Dave King in goal gave nothing to the opposition Tim Armstrong won 'Man of the Match' not just for his goal but also for his superb discipline and tireless running on and off the ball Roll on next week away to Bury 2's

MENS 5TH XI - 22/10/2016 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: Firing blanks LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons RESULT: Lost 0-1 REPORT: A disappointing afternoon for the second week in a row. City 5s had a strong first half with an equal share of the possession. There was much better interplay with the midfield linking with the forward line but the team could not quite find a cutting edge. The Dragon's keeper kept them in the game with several fine saves from a short corner routine. With the game in the balance, Dragons came out the stronger after the break. A well worked goal gave the opposition the lead and quickly saw the City heads drop. A final push came from the team but it was not enough. An improvement from last week but not enough to find any points.

With the game played in great spirit, and only a few NN 2's in their team City had Cushion to thank for claiming 2 goals and making another for Woodies in the first half. NN hit back with one of their own to make it 3-2 at half time. Thanks to the youth of Ben Chapman and Fitz Honor city were able to play an open game but were caught at 3-3 before minutes later White scored from a short. Not to be outdone NN got the equalizer and the rest of the game was played with neither team deserving to lose. A great game to play in and to watch.

MENS 7TH XI - 22/10/2016 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: One that got away LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: Dragons 5's 2 Norwich City 7's 1 REPORT: A club debut for Ian Ordish and Men's 7's debuts for Simon Dale and Ben Pestell. With late additions to the squad City fielded a squad of 16. The opening exchanges saw Dragons youthful team running at the City defence and it looked as if it may be a long afternoon, but City gradually gained a foothold as the defence started to mop up the attacks, the midfield retaining the ball and finding the forwards. Initially penetration of the Dragons circle proved difficult, but then a couple of short corners were won though not converted. Midway through the half a little against the run of play a defensive mix up allowed Dragons to fire home a loose ball. City were not to be deterred and kept up their level of play with Dragons relying on breakaway attacks. City went into the break a goal down, but confident the game was still anyones. Not long into the second half Paul Gallop gained possession in the inside right channel, a lead from Nathan Dixon across the circle pulled defenders out of position creating space which Lee Allsop ran into , picked up the pinpoint pass from Paul and fired the ball into the far corner with his second touch. With the game evenly poised City looked the likely winners and missed a couple of good chances. It was Dragons who were to take the points as another breakaway was fed to a high attacker who slid into the net. A close and enjoyable match, but one that could have been won.
