W (1-0) 22/09/2018 - W1 vs Wapping 1 (H / L) CITY GET OFF TO A FLYING START... |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 22/09/2018 VS WAPPING 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: City get off to a flying start... LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Taverham Recreational Facilities RESULT: W 1-0 REPORT: It was the first game of the season and the first game in Prem after promotion last season – the womens 1s had every right to be nervous, but it was mainly excitement you could sense before the game. Hearing that Wapping had aspirations for promotion this year, the womens 1s knew they had to go out all guns blazing from the start of the game and that they did. With many forays into the Wapping 23 in the first 10 minutes, city won an early short corner after great work from Olivia Williams. The ball almost found the goal after Felicity Williams slid the ball towards the back post, but Wapping kept the ball from hitting the back board. After that, it was a battle in the middle of the pitch with little happening at either end with the first half finishing 0-0. The second half was a different story, City started well with some great attacking play. Following fantastic linking from Harriet Johnson, Ellie Brine and Emily Francis down the right of the pitch, Ellie Brine broke into the D and her paced ball passed narrowly close to the post. Shortly after this, Ellie Brine won another short corner for City which unfortunately wasn’t converted. Wapping penetrated our 25 a few times with slick passing but Mikayla-Mae Glover - excellent in goal for Norwich - kept the shots at bay ably supported by Suzi Mitchell and Fong Chung at the back. It was around 10 minutes before the final whistle that City got their hard fought for break when Harriet Johnson found Emily Francis unmarked at the top of the D, who turned and slid the ball reverse stick underneath the onrushing keeper to make the score 1-0. City kept there calm from then on to ensure they maintained their lead and took the maximum 3 points from their opening game of their season! With fantastic team spirit evident before, during and after the game, the womens 1s are excited to see where the season takes them. POTM – Emily Francis

L (0-2) 22/09/2018 - W2 vs Bury St Edmunds 1 (A / L) DISAPPOINTING LOSS AT BURY |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 22/09/2018 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Disappointing loss at Bury LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Bury RESULT: 0-2 REPORT: We travelled down the A11 to Culford, a much needed caffeine fix for Frankie Birkenhead and we met in changing room 4 for a pre-match talk. A very strict warm up from our illustrious new captain; stretch, sprint, lunge, bellowed aloud. First half start strong for both sides with much of the game from one end of the pitch to the other so long balls through from Frankie and the odd chip, through to Hannah Bush and Lucy Tilbrook, City played their game much to the frustration of Bury who had a couple of decent players hanging around up front. As we got into the first half Bury started to pile on the pressure with strong balls into the D, we changed tack and held our own in what was turning to be a defence first half. Some gritted determination from all of the team - first half finished 0-0. Half time team talk - direct and to the point with the added addition of sugar! Both teams opened up strong with no clear way through play went round the back with three touch hockey we were back in their half, via Rosie Humphrey and Jenny Stanghan not for long as the ball came thundering back, 20mins in Bury won a short corner clearing it off the line, score sheet was still 0-0. City then won a couple of short corners but failed to convert, with a long ball into the D, city keeper came off the line clear the ball and took the player. Bury fought back and with a straight ball sneaked one in the back of the net - 1-0. Play continued with the pressure being piled on we were now playing in our half with everyone back, im not really sure what happed in the second goal as it was a bit hectic in defence with Milly Brown even venturing down there. However the final score was 2-0. There are lots of positives to take from Saturday, so don’t be down hearted, we worked really well as team, true spirit, didn’t give up and you will all have ribbons to wear next week!

L (3-6) 22/09/2018 - W3 vs Broadland 1 (H / L) WELL FOUGHT BATTLE |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 22/09/2018 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Well fought battle LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-6 (loss) REPORT: Norwich City womens 3s hosted the strong side of Broadland 1st team in what became an end to end game. An early score from Broadland had City on the back foot, but the hosts replied via a goal from Olivia Greenway, followed by some good movement in both attack and defence by City. There were more scoring opportunities on both sides, with Broadland getting another and then City’s Flo Cunningham putting one past the visitors to make it 2-2 at half time. Sadly for City the second half saw Broadland extend an unassailable lead, with some incisive and clinical attacks on goal. Marie Hood did get the third goal for City, and player of the match Effie Bowley was involved in some lovely forward play and attacking drives, yet the final score was 3-6 to a strong visiting side. Despite the result there was much to celebrate for City; lots of neat passing and quick movement, with captain Kim Lusher marshalling the defence from the back. There was a terrific team spirit among the womens and observers commented that the contest was considerably more even than suggested by the final score.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 22/09/2018 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Womens 5s beat local rivals LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: NCHC 5s 3, Norwich Dragons 6s 1 REPORT: A dominating start to the game by City, keeping possession with ease. 2 goals perfectly launched across to the left post whereby Sharon Phillips was perfectly positioned to tap them round the keeper. Dragons triangular play began to strengthen, gaining possession and running the City legs in circles. City were still able to intercept frequently and make a few great breaks without goal success. Half time score 2-0. Second half it was clear the Dragons team talk had installed a new hunger! The speed of release increased and the triangles kept on building to allow some quick breaks. City held strong in defence not allowing much through. A short corner awarded and City player running 1 broke early! The corner reset and finally Dragons hit a strong one through! City frustrated they held their heads high and were quick to fight back with determination! Another one from city making it a hatrick for Sharon Phillips meant the final few minutes were that of desperation on both sides. Dragons to minimise the goal difference and City to hold on to their local rival success! Final score 3-1 to City!

W (3-1) 22/09/2018 - W6 vs Dereham 4 (H / L) STRONG TEAM ETHIC HELPS CITY 6S TO WIN FIRST LEAGUE MATCH OF THE SEASON |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 22/09/2018 VS DEREHAM 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Strong team ethic helps City 6s to win first league match of the season LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-1 REPORT: With team spirit and energy high, the first league match of the season saw City 6s play some lovely passing hockey . From the start, a positive-minded Norwich dominated the match, repeatedly moving the ball towards Dereham’s goal. The first goal came from a short corner with Josine Van Den Berg, firing on full throttle today, powering in one of her signature power-pushes into the corner of the net. The whole team worked tirelessly to create a constant overload for Dereham’s defenders and mop up any of the few breaks the visitors made. Josine played a crucial role in the next two goals as well, scoring another from a strong push and assisting in a third, when a strong ball into the D was deflected by Julia Marchant. Player of the match Maddie Smith, playing an inner, impressed with her energy and strong passes as did newcomers to the team Emily Leeming on right wing and Kelly Bolt in midfield. Emily, playing her first game of adult women’s league hockey, made several fantastic runs up the right wing, outpacing and eliminating defenders and winning chances on goal for City. Dereham had a couple of good crosses sent in, but luckily for City, they failed to get a player on the end of them in the D. Impressive tighter marking from Alice Petch and the defensive-unit in the second half, also gave Dereham less options to get a ball away in front of City’s goal. However, despite some great defending , Norwich conceded a goal via a short corner to Dereham to leave the final score 3-1 to City. All looking promising for the rest of the season.

MENS 2ND XI - 22/09/2018 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Cooke Jnr is definitely the best Cooke LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 Win REPORT: On Saturday the newly promoted 2nd team played Cambridge City 3rd. The game started very well with Cameron Cooke missing and early chance in the game, however he redeemed himself by passing a through ball to Harry Gill to deflect the ball into the back of the net for the games opener. At the other end of the pitch Eddie Darley made a fantastic save to keep the score 1-0 at half time. In the second-half Cambridge city looked very determined to score a goal, however there was heroic defending from Scott, Crichton and Pallister. After a shaky few minutes Norwich started to play how they played in the first half. After a well worked move from the back 'moving the ball into midfield' Harry Paterson Passed the ball to a waiting Cameron ready to score a goal (which obviously happened) 2-0. Soon after this. Cambridge heads went down, and Norwich took advantage of this by scoring the third goal by Cameron,3-0. All In all it was a fantastic match for the 2nd team to get there first win in a new league.

L (1-3) 22/09/2018 - M3 vs CoP 3 (A / L) A LOSS, BUT A POSITIVE ONE! |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 22/09/2018 VS COP 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: A loss, but a positive one! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: City of Peterborough Hockey Club RESULT:3-1 loss REPORT: The first league game of the season saw the 3s travel to Peterborough for their return to Division 2N. Missing a few regular players, emphasis was put upon keeping the ball, passing smartly and staying positive. City started well and there were soon chances at both ends. City passed the ball well and worked as a team, moving the ball confidently up the pitch. After 10 minutes, Peterborough claimed their first goal, when an attacking player swung their stick, hitting the city player's stick out of the way, allowing the attacker to shoot and score. City didn't let this deter them; Southgate and D Fletcher both performed well on the left and right of the pitch, providing space and an outlet. Tiring work in the middle for L Sayer, Silvester and T Leonard, but they linked up well and fed the forwards. A wayward pass led to a Peterborough attack, which resulted in a short corner. From this they scored to lead 2-0 at half time. City came out strongly in the second half, despite being behind. Peterborough certainly had something to worry about, as Cooke, Kidner, and Breetske battled against their defence. A short corner breakdown for City led Peterborough on the counter attack, and despite the efforts of A Sayer and Ling at the back, couldn't stop the overload of players coming through. City didn't give up, and their effort was rewarded with an expertly taken drag flick from R Leonard, gave City their first goal of the league season. Special mention to goal keeper Joe K who made many a fine save and was a presence throughout the game. A loss, though a positive game for City, who were unsure of the level of hockey within Div 2N. If City continue like this, then it will not be long until they pick up their own points. MOM: Dave Fletcher. TYFC: Tom Ling

MENS 4TH XI - 22/09/2018 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: City 'Bury' the opposition to kick off the season LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Culford School RESULT: Bury St Edmunds 2:3 City Men's 4's REPORT: It was Norwich City M4's first league match of the new season, traveling to Culford School to played Bury 3rd XI. The match was played on the older sand pitch instead of the nice new one! Midway through the first half, City took the lead when a fast flowing move finished with Greg Hughes knocking in a precision Toby Pallister cross from point-blank range. Bury struck back before halftime with a controversial goal; a dangerous aerial was taken down in a crowd of players - City's defense stopped, waiting for the whistle that never came. The Bury player went on and scored. Halftime 1-1 In the second half, City regained the lead with an excellent ball from Sam Hyatt which took out the keeper, for Pallister to finish off a defender's foot. City stretched their lead with a stunning finish from Sam Hyatt, who drilled the ball into the corner of the goal from the top of the D, after a fabulous diagonal pass from Charles Anderson. Bury picked up a consolation goal three minutes from time, but City held on for the win in what was a very tight game. Jag Saran's distribution from the back was excellent and debutant GK Luke Elwes made some great saves. Adie Land was always in the right place at the right time as usual! Final score 3-2 to City

D (0-0) 22/09/2018 - M5 vs Ipswich 3 (H / L) IPSWICH GK DENIES CITY 3 POINTS |
---|
MENS 5TH XI - 22/09/2018 VS IPSWICH 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Ipswich GK denies City 3 points LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-0 REPORT: City turned up for their first league game of the season with a strong squad, ready to overturn the 14-1 loss that occurred against the same opponents away last year. The game started slow, with some poor ball pace and sloppy passes made in midfield areas, which allowed Ipswich some early chances of getting the ball into the D, but that was the best they managed for the majority of the game. City then picked up the pace, with some good triangles operating in midfield, with Circuit and Cordon dictating play, whilst Hughes and Cooke were working well and switching play across the field from set pieces. The home team was unfortunate not to go ahead before the break as a short corner was awarded as the half-time whistle was blown. Some good skill by Pies at the top of the D got past the first runner, only for his back-post bound pass to be picked out by a defender. Half time. Some small words of wisdom from new captain Holden (still working on the team talks) and then quickly handed over to Pies who gave some good tactical ideas for the second half. The home team started the second half strong and put a performance on for the Womens & Mens 1st XI who remained after their game to support. City kept the momentum for the full 35 minutes, with good attempts on goal from Brine, Circuit, Koppelman and a goal mouth scramble involving Holden, but the England U-21 International in the Ipswich goal kept everything out with a spectacular display of saves. City were nearly undone in the final 10 minutes, as Ipswich broke forward completely against the run of play, only for a fantastic 1-on-1 save from Grocer to keep them at bay. At this point, Holden was sent to the side of the pitch by the umpire, and to be honest, none of us were quite sure why... hey ho! Full time - 0-0. MOTM: Goes to Reuben Cooke - Tireless running and great defending to keep the Ipswich ringer at bay!

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham - Sand RESULT: 5-0 Loss REPORT: In City's opening league game of the season and their opening game in Division 5 following promotion last season, they game up against a strong, well drilled and fit UEA 3rd XI side. 1-0 down at half time turned into a 5-0 loss by full time, and City had lots to learn, hopefully once squads settle and we don't play a team as fit as UEA results and points will follow.
