A very frosty morning threatened postponement for many games at TRF, however the forever keen Norwich City Womens 1s did not let that dampen their spirits. They started the game against Lowestoft Womens 1s with energy and commitment from the off, eager to get back to winning ways. Great work rate and a well rehearsed press put constant pressure on Lowestoft's defence and it was Felicity Williams who managed to slot away City's first well deserved goal. Continuous attacks from Olivia Williams and Emily Francis resulted in many chances for the yellows, however great saves from the opposing keeper kept the score low in the first half. 
 
After half time, great attacking line runs from Harriet Johnson and Ellie Pitcher created promising chances for City but it was a counter attack that led to city's next triumph. Silky skills from Jocasta Staines and a deflection in the D from Ellie Brine led the ball nicely to Krystal Bishop who, with a powerful strike into the bottom left corner, put away City's second goal.  
 
Slick transfers from Sally Rose and Fong Chung in defence created the space Norwich needed to push forward. Despite having a limited amount of attacking short corners City used a well drilled routine, and Micayla Tootill deflected the ball into the net. City 3 - Lowestoft 0.  
 
Brilliant team work in the middle from Rachel Mayne and Alice Gill kept city on top. Despite being a player down, City were dominating and Ange Hindle slid a great ball into the D to Micayla who skilfully turned gaining space to smash the ball, scoring herself her second goal of the day. 
 
Two questionable green cards left Norwich with 9 players but they worked hard to defend and Lowestoft's endless attempts to clear the ball were intercepted. Until the end City remained on form, final result 4-0. 

LADIES 3RD XI - 20/01/2018 VS EVERGREENS 1 (A)

REPORT:  
Norwich City womens 3rd team continued their 2018 winning streak with a third consecutive victory, this time beating Evergreens on their home turf. 
City had an electric first half, despite the chilly conditions, and it was defender Emily Spencer who stepped up to take the first attacking short corner with a cracking strike that literally shattered the ball as it hit the back of the goal.  
Sophia Basset showed her silky skills throughout the game, and scored City’s second, with cheers coming from her teammates. Next up was Sophie Harrad who got herself into a great position to give the visitors a comfortable three goal lead.  
To close a fantastic first half, Holly Totten crossed a lovely ball in and Abi Bourne tipped it into the goal from the far post. 
Evergreens came out of half time with a true fighting spirit and charged at the City defence, managing to convert a goal. Player of the match Kim Lusher and her solid unit of defenders kept the hosts at bay, along with keeper Grace Thrower, so that the match finished 1-4 to City and added another win to their record.

REPORT: 
A wet and miserable day and a slow start with not much action saw the end of the first half 0-0. After a good talking to at half time, Norwich knew exactly what had to be done, quick passes & using their width and it wasn’t long before Heather made a drive into the ‘d’ and a quick short pass to Ellie to finish it. With the enthusiasm created from the first goal, we kept on fighting with a fast bouncy ball from Ellie into Hannah where she knocked it straight into the back of the net.  
We carried on strong with Lydia’s 16 hit out being taken as an ariel to Charlotte which impressed us all creating the space past a good press from UEA. We dug deep and deserved the win, well played to everyone.

REPORT: 
City 5's were hungry for a win having played brilliantly the last two weeks but failed to secure victory. The 5ths were determined they would not make this mistake again. 
 
First 10 minutes saw us competently moving the ball around in an organised fashion with speed and finesse. Lots of action in our attacking D but the ball just would not cross the line. We came close to scoring from a short corner with a rocket of a ball from Alli Mclellan which was disallowed as it flew passed the keepers left ear ! 
We blinked and the ball escaped to Carrows end and a neat hard short corner squeezed between our keeper Clair Richardson and defence putting Carrow ahead. We responded within minutes with a lovely shot from Molly Crabtree deflected in by Charlotte Jeffers. Tragically Netty Peters pulled up with an injury and had to retire to supporting us from the bench . 
 
Half time 1-1. A rousing team talk from our captain Carol McNarry with a plan to attack more down the right. 
A lovely long corner from Carol McNarry to Alli McLellan deflected in by Lucy McNarry marked our winning goal. 
 
Tight defending, good pressure and pushing up saw us hold the lead. Enjoyable game, sporting opposition and good quality umpiring made it a tasty 2-1 victory.

Watton had no answer for the Norwich City A’s on this gloomy January afternoon at Taverham. Watton’s defence couldn’t do anything against a swarming City front seven. Intricate interplay, clinical finishing and ruthless efficiency were the order of the day. City debutant Amelia was simply unbeatable on the left and fellow debutant Emily exploited the space beautifully and was unlucky not to score. 
 
The match began with the re-introduction of a long-forgotten rule which decreed that players wearing yellow were only allowed to shoot on the reverse, or so it seemed! Efforts from Evie-Mae, Effie, Tilly, Lucy, Loulou and Phoebe were all well saved before Tilly broke the deadlock (and very nearly the Watton goal too!) with a super-powered thunderbolt of a reverse sweep into the bottom left corner. Following a first short-corner to forget, the second one was gloriously smashed home by Lucy to put City two in front. The third goal was a fabulous piece of total-hockey, with player of the match Effie at her imperious best, winning the ball in midfield and beginning a seven-pass move involving every City midfielder and forward, before Lucy threaded a splendid pass through the narrowest of gaps for Loulou to slide the ball in at the far post. Tilly added the fourth shortly afterwards and Phoebe drove the ball from the half-way line before jinking past two defenders into the Watton D to slam home the fifth. Loulou returned the favour from earlier for City’s sixth of the game, unselfishly cutting the ball back to Lucy to bag her brace with aplomb.

A reshuffled City side looked a little less fluid after the break and Watton managed a shot on goal which was well saved by Sophia. With her work done, she settled in to watch the rest of the half as a spectator. Norwich dominated possession for long periods and some fabulous solo runs from Izzy, Tilly and Effie were unfortunate not to lead to more goals. Loulou capped a super performance late in the half with a controlled reverse sweep for her second and City’s seventh.

A half-frozen pitch, the closure of the A47 and starting with 10 players was still not enough for a significantly older Yarmouth team to see off the impressive City Bs.  
Despite many of the girls playing in unfamiliar positions and players unable to run on the still frozen pitch there was still some lovely hockey being played but at a rather slower pace than normal, ball retention was excellent especially from the defensive trio of Mia, Sabina and Tabby. With the girls unable to outrun defenders due to the conditions the few chances that presented themselves were due to some excellent distribution from the dynamos in midfield, Niamh and Saskia and the space being found by Emily, Evie and Rosie upfront. With the game being slow Yarmouth had the occasional opportunity and for the first time in 2018 Imogen was called into action and dealt easily with the threat. 
As conditions improved and with the pitch slightly thawing after half time, the girls totally dominated the 3rd quarter and following some lovely triangles in the midfield between Niamh and Saskia they worked their way towards the Yarmouth circle. Niamh won a free hit and her quick restart and clever slip to Emily saw a clinical pass finding Evie Hood waiting at the back post to open the scoring. Lucy Walton and Rosie Wharton came more into the game and they made some excellent forays down the left flank and were unlucky not to further increase the scoring. 
The final quarter saw Yarmouth press high up the pitch but with Niamh and Saskia dominating the middle and eliminating players at will, counter attacks were prevalent, with Kate Ellis making some great runs in her unfamiliar role higher up the pitch. With time running out Yarmouth threw everything forward but Mia, Sabina and Tabby ably prevented any threat on Imogen's goal. 
 
 

MENS 3RD XI - 20/01/2018 VS IPSWICH 2 (A)

RESULT: 2-1 Win 
 
REPORT: 
Norwich City's Mens 3rd XI continue their stance at the top of Division 3NE with a hard fought 2-1 away victory to top half team Ipswich 2s. 3s were upagainst it from the start as they played the first 25 minutes of the game without a keeper, however despite this City were the better side and used their extra outfield player to their advantage moving the ball around extremely well. Miles Doncaster, Richard Silvester, Dave Fletcher and Toby leonard all had early chances with both the Ipswich keeper and side netting preventing City taking the lead. Eventually City did take the lead when Rees Leonard dispatched a PC, having previosuly played kicking back and making an amazing goal line clearance. At 1-0 City were good value for it and made it 2-0 when Toby Leonard was played in 1 on 1 with the keeper and finished well. 2-0 and City looked comfortable but however two missed tackles at the back and a deflected shot and Ipswich found a goal from nothing and then City played some poor and slack hockey, 2-1 at the break.  
 
City came out more composed in the 2nd half but Ipswich pressed a lot higher and forced City;s defensive line of Ling, Sayer, Perry and Clabon to work extremely hard to keep City's lead. King in the City goal had little to do but made two good saves from the two clear chances Ipswich had. At the other end Silvester was always a threat and was unlucky to not score having had two efforts well saved by the keeper. City also had many other half chances to kill the game off but didn't quite have the cutting edge to get that killer 3rd goal. The final minutes where nervy but great work rate from L Sayer, M Fletcher, M Doncaster, D Fletcher and F Hooper in the midfield areas paid off as the game finished 2-1.  
 
POTM: R Leonard scoring and saving a goal which i guess you could say won us the game.
