WOMENS 3RD XI - 07/12/2024 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 07/12/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 07/12/2024 HEADLINE: A tale of two halves LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-2 Loss REPORT: The match against magpies was a tale of two halves. Magpies started strong scoring 4 goals in the first half. Regardless of the strong team Marie and Longy did some solid defending, battling hard to win back possession and keep the ball out of our D. Determined to turn the game around, an encouraging team talk reignited our focus. We wanted to come back strong after half time and score some goals. After an encouraging team talk at half time. We made some good passes up the pitch and Chloe J used her skills to dribble round the defenders and the team made some good passes up the pitch and into their D. Which lead to Lucy scoring a great goal. The momentum continued, and after a short corner, Helen made an impressive hit towards the goal and Lucy deflected it into the goal, making the score 4 - 2. The team carried on playing some brilliant hockey. We conceded one more goal towards the end of the game. Overall we played very strong as a team and despite losing the first half, we did win the second half!

WOMENS 3RD XI - 30/11/2024 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 30/11/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 30/11/2024 HEADLINE: Entering the Dragons Den LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 1-0 Loss REPORT: As the light started to fade, we entered the Dragon's Den, hungry for a win. After a motivating team talk from this week's captain, Marie, we warmed up with intent and came out fast. Unfortunately, the Dragons also came out hard and scored early—seems to be the 3's curse at the moment. Reset, restart, we put up a fight, the defence of Longy, Katie, Emma & GK Jo stood strong at the back, blocking numerous attacks and dealing with short corners effectively. Chloe G, Corrine, and Marie played great balls across & up the pitch. Lola and Tilly made great runs and showcased excellent stick skills up front, constantly putting pressure on the Dragons' defence. Helen, Phoebe, and Chloe J were crafty with their movement, weaving in and out of the opposition and creating chances in the D. The game was end-to-end, with both teams hungry for more goals. Despite chances by both teams, the final whistle blew with the Dragons taking a 1-0 win. The team fought hard and ran their socks off, showing great determination throughout the match. Our sideline supporters were fab and really helped us keep going. One more game before Christmas to look forward to!

WOMENS 3RD XI - 23/11/2024 VS WATTON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 23/11/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 23/11/2024 HEADLINE: Victory Sweet LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-1 Win REPORT: The match began, excitement grew. The teams were set, the whistle blew. A shaky start let the opposition through, when 1-0 down City’s composure grew. Lola’s quick feet down the wing, her stick was swift, her movements king. A pass from (Anna?) so sharp, so true, She struck the ball—it flew right through! Next came Alice, quick and bright, some silky team passes were quite a sight. A perfect shot, the goalie missed; Alice's goal went through the mist.
2-1 lead, the team was high, with gleaming smiles and heads held high. The midfield charged with steady pace, they found Susan in the perfect space, Susan’s tap meant the ball did fly, past the goalies outstretched try.
The game went on with thrilling play, the score stayed firm, our defence wouldn't sway. 3-1 the final, victory sweet, for the City 3s that could not be beat!!

W (5-2) 16/11/2024 - W3 vs UEA Womens 2 (A / L) BUILDING ON RECENT HISTORY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/11/2024 VS UEA LADIES 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/11/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/11/2024 HEADLINE: Building on recent history LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: UEA RESULT: 5-2 Win REPORT: City looked to build on recent history and carry on their winning ways against the students of UEA 2’s. A strong squad from City were raring to go, but the students jumped to the top of the class when they took an early lead. City soon realised they may be in detention and the midfield started to push forward winning city a penalty corner. Helen (Mrs Brockington) and Lola had clearly been doing their homework and Sarah injected to Helen and a one-two between Helen and Lola lead to Helen making it one all. With City back level, the mighty yellows started to create more with Chloe G, Chloe J and Susan head girls in the middle and our top teacher Mrs Brockington scored to put city into a deserved lead only for the advantage to be subtracted when UEA quickly replied to get it back to 2-2 at half time. Headmistress Longy and Miss Hood gave an inspiring speech to the assembly of city players in the break which lead to quite a different second half. Marie, Longy, Emma, Millie and Katie gave a schooling to the students on the Fine Art of defending with UEA only threatening on the break and when they rarely got in, were unable to make an addition to their score with Jo in goal making some amazing saves. The midfield of Chloe J, Chloe G and Susan were too strong for the tiring students who were learning the lesson for not getting close to our energetic group and they were able to supply our exciting forward line. Mirabelle and Susan were a constant threat on the left with Lola ,Jess and Alice mastering the science of wing play and creating chance after chance for Helen, Rachel and Sarah. Two quick goals for Lola extended City’s lead to a deserved 4-2 with two prefect 😉 finishes past the goalkeeper. Norwich City continued to push forwards and some great individual skill from Chloe J led to the ball reaching Rachel and with only one likely outcome the rest was history and Rachel was on hand to make it a Fantastic Five showing a team in their prime. The final whistle blew shortly after leaving the final score, a commendable and full of merit 5-2 to Norwich City.

W (3-0) 09/11/2024 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (A / L) VS DRAGONS |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 09/11/2024 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 09/11/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 09/11/2024 HEADLINE: Vs Dragons LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 3-0 win REPORT: Norwich came out ready with a great start to the first half, scoring an early goal thanks to Thalia to boost our confidence for the rest of the game. We then dominated the match with our strong defence and interceptions enabling us to find the space in the middle and on the width of the pitch, travelling up to the forwards who put great pressure onto the keeper. Soon after, Helen went for goal number 2 as she put in a solid tackle near our 23 and continued to drive up the whole pitch eliminating all there players in the process as she reached the D to slot the ball straight into the left corner. Following this the team had great flow with quick passes and some impressive dribbles leading to achieving multiple attacking short corners that were narrowly missed. However, shortly after a brilliant ball from the defence we were able to drive up the right to slip the ball into Thalia who fired the ball straight into the goal making the score 3-0, overall a great start for city. Going into the second half, Dragon’s came out strong, putting lots of pressure on the defence which was smoothly handled and cleared by the defence and Jo performed some amazing saves. We faced a few defensive short corners which were dealt with amazingly, enabling us to remain having not conceded. Although we still dominated possession with many close chances we were unable to score any more goals due to there tighter defence but our attitude and play remained positive and composed as multiple players showed off there commitment and ability within the team. Well played everyone!

D (0-0) 02/11/2024 - W3 vs Broadland 1 (H / L) 3 WAY TIE POTM |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 02/11/2024 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 02/11/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 02/11/2024 HEADLINE: 3 way tie POTM LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-0 DRAW REPORT: Match Report On reflection the match against Broadland was pretty even although it felt like we had just dropped two points. With a strong squad and a guest appearance from Serena our “new on the day” team manager we started with purpose. At training we had worked on our press and it showed throughout the match as it constantly caused Broadland problems with their hit outs. We had more chances in front of goal, either from short corners or by our forwards and midfielders constantly making strong runs into the attacking circle. However it wasn’t to going to be our day largely due to Broadland’s GK. Our defence worked tirelessly to defend any Broadland attacks and breathed a huge sigh of relief when a former city player hit the post! Our transfers around the back were working well which exploited Broadland’s gaps and saw us making strong driving runs on a number of occasions. However the main excitement of the match was counting the number of cards and guessing the colour of them as they were being issued by the umpires to the opposition. We had a player leave the pitch and didn’t come back, a player thought it was acceptable to push one of our younger players, a player constantly not being five on our free hits and slowly but surely they were getting irritated but to our great credit we kept our composure. It was a good well fought match and although the final score was 0-0 we played and communicated well as a team and showed great resolve throughout the match. There were many positives and we look forward to next weekend when we enter the Dragons Den! A big shout out to fellow player of the match - Obi and Marie. And of course to our on the day team manager Serena!

W (4-1) 19/10/2024 - W3 vs Harleston Magpies 4 (A / L) A GREAT RESULT FOR THE 3S |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 19/10/2024 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 19/10/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 19/10/2024 HEADLINE: A great result for the 3s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 4-1 WIN REPORT: In a first half where Norwich saw the better of the chances we went in at the break 1-0 down against the run of play. This fired the team up and we came out fighting from the off in the second half. The breakthrough came when the defence made a pass from deep to the right wing followed by a pass to Helen for a chip in to level the score. Now on level terms we took control of the second half with the defence keeping it tight at the back allowing midfield to supply the forwards for three more goals. The goal of the game came from Helen to complete her hat-rick, receiving a pass which she lifted into the top left corner leaving the goalie with nowhere to go. Helen also provided a glorious green moment which demonstrated her commitment and determination. While the forwards often get the glory, the defence in this particular game were magnificent, allowing us to control the whole game. Some great interceptions all round allowed the midfield to work their manic. Great end result of a 4-1 win.

L (0-5) 05/10/2024 - W3 vs UEA Womens 1 (A / L) TOUGH MATCH FOR THE MIGHTY 3S |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 05/10/2024 VS UEA LADIES 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 05/10/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 05/10/2024 HEADLINE: Tough match for the Mighty 3s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: UEA RESULT: 5-0 LOSS REPORT: The Mighty 3’s had a tough match against a well drilled and skillfull UEA 1st team yesterday. We started the match brightly, matching our opposition and keeping the defensive door firmly closed, however we found it hard to get the ball out of our half and the pressure was relentless. Jo made some brilliant reaction saves and we successfully defended several short corners and were pleased to find ourselves 1-0 down at half time. The youthful opposition came out strongly in the second half scoring almost immediately on the break. Despite some brilliant defending, we were overrun with UEA always seeming to have an extra player and their goals continued to come. The turn of pace of Helen, the silky skills of Chloe J and the heroics in midfield from Katy gave us glimmers of hope but in the end the opposition were too strong. Final score 0-5… bruised and broken, and a green card in the bag, we came off with our heads held high! Well done team x

L (0-1) 28/09/2024 - W3 vs Norwich City 2 (H / L) DERBY DAY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 28/09/2024 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 28/09/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 28/09/2024 HEADLINE: Derby day LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-1 Loss REPORT: The match started with the team against the sun, and the starting play. The team were on the ball from the beginning, making the ball to the do the work and fighting well under the opposition’s pressure. A few minor slip ups saw the beginning of a very defensive stint resulting in 5 defensive short corners, and a lot of shuttle runs from the midfield. The defensive held well until the opposition snuck the ball into the back of the net. The team ploughed on despite the knock, evenly distributing the ball around the pitch with chins held high. We entered half-time 0-1 down, but morale was high. With some sweets to fuel us back up we were back on the pitch and ready to go with no mercy to give. The attack in us was raring, with a few passes around the back we were distributing the ball left, right and centre with little room for error. With a few shots on goal we were in a winning mindset, goal hungry. Winning a few attacking shorts, kept us in the opponent’s half and the pressure back on them. A last minute short as the final play saw the whole team up ready to score a draw, only stopped by a strong defence. Overall an excellent performance, and well executed defensive skills from trainings
