WOMENS 3RD XI - 18/11/2023 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/11/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/11/2023 HEADLINE: A local derby! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: LOST 3-1 REPORT: The womens 3’s had a very unlucky game on Saturday losing 3-1 against Broadland 1’s. City started strong on the offensive and had a few chances on target. A few great saves from Jess kept the score level. The midfield players worked well together to create a few attacking opportunities that lead to city winning a short corner and Emily Holloway slipping it past the keeper and bringing city to 1-0 up. Another few attacking short corners that narrowly missed kept the possession with city and held off Broadland. However a quick counterattack from the Broadland forwards took city by surprise and the score was level again, city finished 1-1 at half time. The second half started in favour of city and they had the majority of the possession, creating a few scoring opportunities and keeping the ball in the attacking half. However two more quick breakthroughs which led to 2 more goals took the score to 3-1. City kept on fighting and continued to make opportunities but none were converted. A spontaneous decision at the end to swap out our goalie for another player saw city coming close to a goal in the final short corner however they could not find the back of the net and the score remained at 3-1, the score did not reflect how well the womens played today.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 18/11/2023 VS EVERGREENS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 18/11/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 18/11/2023 HEADLINE: Disappointing defeat on the late shift LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 1-2 REPORT: We had the makings of a stellar team; 2 subs, 2 coaches and fire in our bellies and we went out there to win! We settled in to the game quickly, passing well, working together and within 9 minutes Corinne slotted the ball in to their goal from a sideline, tee'd up by Victoria - Perfect, one nil up! We didn't get cocky, we settled back down, carried on playing good, strong hockey - moving the ball around well and working hard as a team. The coaches kept spirits up and really helped us work together, cheering us on. Speaking of which, Evergreens found the back of our goal shortly after - and then we were tied going in to half time. The battle fought on in the second half, we held our own against 3rd place Evergreens and we never relented against their onslaught. We kept them at bay and we had some good attacks on their goal, but just weren't able to convert it. Short corner awarded against us in the last minute - and unfortunately, a tap in saw us lose the game with 3 seconds to spare. Gutted! A result that did not reflect the energy, drive and commitment of our team.

MENS 1ST XI - 19/11/2023 VS UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 19/11/2023 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 19/11/2023 HEADLINE: M1s Get Back On Track After Tough Away Loss LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-2 W REPORT: After the previous weeks last second loss to top of the table University of Nottingham the scars we're still fresh as we welcomed University of Birmingham to Taverham. Norwich City dominated the early phases, Birmingham full pressed but couldn't find a turnover. Cam Cooke had an unmarked hit go narrowly wide and shortly after he also had a drag flick narrowly saved by the Birmingham keeper but the first quarter finished 0-0. To start the 2nd quarter Cam showed he'd warmed up from the earlier chances evading the backboard by making sure with Norwich & Cams second short corner of the game, going for the same spot again but this time the keeper not managing to save it and Norwich took a deserved lead. Unfortunately Birmingham snapped back with a short corner of their own, a well worked routine slipping from one castle to the next and it was 1-1 at HT. Quarter 3 was a story of missed chances for both teams. UoB had 2 corners saved and a 3rd one missed the target. Norwich had a deflection well saved and a pass through the face of the D from Elliot Hibell that didn't quite fall for the unmarked David Gilbert at the back post. Q3: 1-1. Q4 was quite the opposite, a flurry of goals. Dave Gilbert turnover that fell to ben Chapman who lifted the ball into the D for Cameron Cooke to half volley home made it 2-1 to Norwich. Stuart Wardle followed up by winning a short corner that Cameron Cooke converted for a 3-1 lead. And after a yellow card for both sides Birmingham won their 5th corner of the game and upgraded that into a penalty flick and made it 3-2 for a tense last few minutes. Norwich City clung on and got much needed points to retain 3rd place.
