REPORT: 
After a slow journey to Peterborough, Norwich City quickly settled into the game. With a few early chances, City were struggling to find the back of the net. Peterborough too showed determination, winning a short corner which resulted in left defender Sally Rose injured and out the the remainder of the game. This didn’t dishearten City though, with a quick change of formation, and only one sub, Irene found Olivia Williams who crossed it to a Krystal Bishop who brought City to a 1-0 lead! Half time came, sugar on board and both teams were back out to fight! Not long into the second half Sophie Mullan crossed it to Irene, who slipped it to Olivia Williams who passed it straight back for another confident goal! Peterborough fought back shortly after scoring their first goal but this spurred Norwich on further with some excellent movement down the pitch from Harriet Johnson, Jo Staines and Ange Hindle where they found Krystal Bishop who scored a straight strike across goal, landing in the bottom left hand corner and securing Norwich City to a 3-1 lead! Peterborough continued to show their determination with some great movement down the pitch, winning a short corner and bringing them to 3-2! The game was so close, both teams fighting hard, Peterborough for the draw and City for the win! Micayla Toothill, Fong Chung, Harriet Johnson and newly found position as left back for Rachel Mayne continued to hold the defence strongly, with olivia Williams sending some excellence balls out to the other end of the pitch. With the end nearing Player of the match Sophie Mullan cleared the ball out of City's half and the whistle was blown - a 3-2 win for Norwich city and 10 points in the bag!  

WOMENS 2ND XI - 17/11/2018 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H)

Result: 1-2 loss 
 
NCHC W2 hosted the strong North Norfolk W1’s side who currently sit 2nd in the league table. After a brief warm up in the winter sunshine, (this time dodging the rabbit holes by using the car park with a stern ‘telling off’ by our very own Frosty) City stepped onto the pitch feeling positive that this would be the week we would walk away three points.  
 
However, City were off to a shakey start, it appears all the pre-match sugar and coffee didn’t quite prepare us for the motivated North Norfolk side. North Norfolk pressured City from the whistle and managed to penetrate City’s ‘D’ within the first few minutes to win a short corner. Unfortunately for City, this was converted and left us on the back foot for the next 15/20 mins conceding once more, 0-2. After a bit of composure City arose to the challenge and got their heads into the game. Keeper Serena Scott made some tremendous saves keeping the scoreline low. Defender Leigh-Ann Worrall contributed by her ’sick’ pick-ups in the ‘D’ with the addition of important clearances from herself and half back, Becky Gaffney whose positional awareness provided a much needed outlet. Full back, Kathy Sinnamon gained and kept possession of the ball in vital areas within City’s ’25’ who linked up well with half back, Frankie Birkenhead who made some dangerous overlapping runs on the left hand side. North Norfolk managed to win several more short corners but under Scott’s instructions City’s defence changed their running tactics and denied North Norfolk the backboard. City took advantage of a broken down penalty corner and cleared the ball to midfield who proceeded to find forwards Milly Brown and Hannah Bush who worked together quickly and efficiently up the pitch to find Rachel Phillips who out skilled the lone defender and sent the ball flying past the keeper who was referred to as a ’sitting duck’ by her team mates, 1-2, City were back in the game.  
 
After some ‘constructional criticism’ by coach Chris Wardale at half time, City shook off their morning blues and got pumped! City came back and hit North Norfolk hard in the second half making them really work for their three points. Captain Helen Busfield worked tirelessly as always in central midfield linking up well with inside forwards Lucy Tilbrook and Georgia Cleveland who sent some lovely balls into the ‘D’. POTM Rosie Humphrey stood her ground in midfield breaking down play and winning 50:50 balls determined not to let North Norfolk ‘up the ante’. So much so, that both Humphrey and Busfield had the same vision of driving into the oppositions ‘D’ as they charged towards a loose ball colliding with one another, splat on the floor! Minor injuries shaken off for the last ten minutes. City caused havoc in this time and looked as if a draw could be on the cards but unfortunately, just couldn’t make it pay off. Final score, 1-2. 

WOMENS 3RD XI - 17/11/2018 VS LOWESTOFT RAILWAY 1 (H)

REPORT: 
Norwich City Women's 3rds played on home turf in the sun. City had a slow start, but the last 10 minutes of the first half showed what they are capable of and saw City put away three goals - coming from Olivia Greenway, Marie Hood and Sasha Ferreira. City really showed from their training how pulling the ball out of the situation and switching the play makes it easier to get down the pitch and into the opposition D.  
 
In the second half Lowestoft Railway came out strong and took City by surprise with a goal early in the second half. Lowesoft's front line dropped, making it difficult for City to get into their 23. But City looked confident taking the ball back to draw out players, opening up gaps for the creative play of Niamh Campbell and Flo Cunningham (player of the match) both tirelessly hassling the Lowestoft players, creating many chances. City put the pressure on by creating shorts and keeping possession, and were rewarded for their determination and patience with a final goal from Ellie Hobden putting city 4-1 up. Team spirits were high and the hosts didn’t give up till the final whistle. 

WOMENS 4TH XI - 17/11/2018 VS LODDON 1 (H)

REPORT: 
It was yet another tough week for City 4s who faced 3rd in the league Loddon 1s.  
 
Loddon went 1-0 up ten minutes into the first half. City had a couple of good chances in the D but couldn't quite find a way to convert any of them despite their best efforts. City stayed strong at the back keeping out numerous short corners to keep the score at 1-0 at half time.  
 
The second half was tough on City who only had one substitute. The work rate shown was fantastic, especially from Emily Williams and Emily Leaming who are new to the squad. Loddon managed to get another 2 past City.  
 
Final score 3-0 to Loddon. 
 
Player of the match goes to Mia Edmond who had a fantastic game at the back.  
 
Keep up the good work team, our commitment is great and if we stick at it the results will come - it's not rocket science!  

WOMENS 5TH XI - 17/11/2018 VS CARROW 1 (A)

RESULT: Lost City 0- 5 Carrow 
 
REPORT:Norwich City 5's arrived at Langley knowing Carrow would be a tough challenge. However with a 3 match winning streak City were confident they could win. Carrow however had other plans and within the first few minutes were up 1-0! City pressed high and had many chances but just couldn’t seem to score. Carrow converted a short corner from a deflection, the FIRST own goal of the game, and scored on a fast break to send City in 3-0 down at half time.  
 
The 2nd half saw City pile the pressure on the Carrow defence with some fantastic chances in front of goal but they just couldn’t breakthrough. Carrow again had a couple of fast breaks which resulted in 2 more goals, one which was a deflection and own goal number 2, 4-0. Carrow weren’t quite finished and a short corner deflected from the defence into the top corner (lovely goal Carol McNarry !) left City 5-0 down and thinking that maybe it wasn’t their day ! 
 
Still City kept the pressure on and were finally rewarded with a lovely goal from Molly Crabtree. 
Final score 5-1 with the 5’s left wondering how they had managed to score 4 goals and lose the game!!!

WOMENS 6TH XI - 17/11/2018 VS LODDON 2 (H)

REPORT: Team squad changes across the club, and a few regulars not available today, meant that City 6s headed on to the pitch with a completely new line up. The first half was tough as Loddon attacked the circle hard and City struggled to keep them at bay meaning that the home team went into the half time break three-nil down. With a win looking a challenge to achieve, City decided to take a deep collective breath and play their own game - aiming to settle into getting to know each other as a new team. The strategy worked with City performing a little better in the second half, breaking through more and only letting one goal past the keeper. City had several attacks on the circle, but they were mopped up by Loddon. A tough match with much to learn but positive signs moving forward with this new squad.  
 

WOMENS MASTERS XI - 18/11/2018 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY O35S (H)

REPORT: 
Norwich City Womens Masters O35 team welcomed Cambridge City for the 1st round of the womens masters O35 competition.  
With a selection of players from City, Loddon, Broadland and North Norfolk meeting and playing for the first time it was going to be an interesting afternoon of hockey!  
A well drilled Cambridge team applied pressure early, but it was Norwich who turned play around with Fong Chung converting a short corner in the first 10 minutes of play. Cambridge continued to play some great hockey, but City’s midfield worked tirelessly to press preventing Cambridge from breaking through.  
Sally Bircham was fantastic in defence making crucial tackles to stop Cambridge from scoring.  
Cambridge were awarded numerous short corners, none off which bothered City’s keeper, Anna Linsmith too much, who was swotting drag flick attempts away like flies. However, on one occasion it did find the back of the net....1-1 and, all to play for.  
Norwich attacked on the break once again with a long ball from Hanna Hall to Leigh-Ann Worrall who followed the text book into playing a perfect ball into a very composed Lydia Lawrence who beat the keeper in style to put Norwich 2-1 up at half time.  
The second half saw much of the same with both teams creating opportunities, however the final score remained 2-1.  
 
A lovely afternoon of hockey, new friendships made and a second round of the cup to prepare for!

MENS 2ND XI - 17/11/2018 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 2 (A)

RESULT: 2-1 Loss 
 
REPORT: Late on Saturday, the 2s headed down to Harleston for a “local derby”; despite this fact, “grizzly” Silvester still managed to turn up 9 minutes late, surely he couldn't get TYFC again??? 
After losing the toss, city had to play the first half with the beautiful evening sun right in their faces, but this wasn’t the reason for Magpies going 1-0 up, as sloppy defending following a short corner saw the Magpies forwards lining up at the back post, eventually managing to get the ball in after Millett had made the initial save. City started to get back into the game, and created a couple of opportunities. However, we went into half time a goal down and a man down, as Tom Bailey got a 10 minute yellow for lashing out extremely violently at his opposite number by simply running into him. 
Second half was a more even affair, as we created more and more chances, finally being rewarded when Chris Perry’s worst dragflick of the day went in. After that both teams pushed for the winner, and Magpies scored another close range goal to make it 2-1. Another one of our short corners hit the post, but Harleston were strong on the break and probably should have had a flick after Millett produced a horror tackle on ex-city player Dave Skinner, but throughout the game the umpiring decisions had been bewildering so nothing was given. In the last minute we produced two brilliant chances to salvage a point, but in the end we saw one saved and the other cleared by the postman. 
Full time score 2-1.  
Coming out of the game we were disappointed that we couldn’t get something, but positives must be taken because we are pushing teams right until the last minute again and again and deserve more points than we have at the moment.

RESULT: 5-4 loss 
 
REPORT: 
City travelled to Dereham on a very sunny afternoon. City were the first out of the blocks and scored when Rees Leonard slotted the ball past the Dereham goliath of a keeper. Dereham soon became frustrated by City as they couldn't seem to get anywhere near the ball. City passed the ball beautifully and kept the pressure on. Dereham managed to get an equaliser but it wasn't long until City took the lead again from Jack Luther knocking the ball through the legs of the keeper. City then managed to get another goal from a drag flick by maestro Rees Leonard.  
Dereham were becoming more and more frustrated, challenging the umpires and a player of theirs had a rest at the side of the pitch. There were more chances for City, but sadly these weren't taken. The game may have ended differently if they were.... 
The second half saw Dereham put a high press on City and City struggled to get the ball to the forwards as every ball seemed to be cut out in the middle of the pitch. Pressure and a physical game from Dereham resulted in them not only scoring two goals to equalise, but also a further two to take the lead. All within a bad spell of 10 minutes. City fought back and Rees Leonard managed to bag himself a hat trick, but City just weren't able to compete with the physical side of the game that Dereham brought in the second half. 
The match ended with a Dereham win 5-4. City were frustrated to let the lead slip again, but can hold their heads high as it could be said they had the moral victory.

REPORT: 
On a glorious sunny afternoon the much anticipated 4s Vs 5s league match finally got under way. There had been the usual pre match hype and posturing prior to the game to rival great head to head confrontations of yester year - think Ali Vs Foreman, think Federer Vs Djokovic, think Tom and Jerry. Anyway, the match lived up to expectations and delighted the heaving crowds. 
 
To be fair the youthful 5s looked to have come out of the blocks the better with Monty Platt, Reuben McCall and Freddie Paterson particularly lively - Ed Taylor maintained the momentum when he joined the fray. As the game developed the 4s made good use of a youthful in mind midfield of Paul Roy, Alex Tomkinson (youthful in mind and body) and Malcolm Jewers who was last seen in goal! (versatile to the core) and the irrepressible Jonty Black at right wing. It was fitting that an excellent run down the right, one two with Mr Peter Pan himself (Adie Land) and Jonty left Dan Jeffers a simple tap in to open the scoring. 
 
On the stroke of half time the 4s won a series of short corners and finally made it 2-0 when Adie tapped in at the near post. 
 
Undeterred the 5s again pressed at the beginning of the second half and reduced the arrears when James Hughes calmly slotted home.. This made for an entertaining half with the 4s playing the more fluent hockey (round the back and up the line or inside) and the 5s counter attacking at pace. Haren Patel played his own unique approach to centre back, often ahead of our forward line and Eddie Darley yet again proved his worth in goal. The 4s thought they’d extended their lead when a goal mouth scramble saw Jonty crash the ball home as the whistle went for a short corner (cheers Cookie!!). Paul Roy did then add a third goal for the 4s with a very powerful if somewhat unusual one handed left handed shot.....who said you can’t teach old dogs new tricks??!! 
 
The 5s responded well with a couple of half chances and a couple of short corners. As the sun set the final whistle blew with the general consensus was that the perfect cocktail of youth and experience really had put on a show that celebrated all that is right in the wonderful game we call hockey. 
 
Fittingly, Jonty was named the 4s man of the match and it was great to see the youngsters from both teams happily eating match teas together and having a good old chin wag...as were the old hands on the other tables. Well done everyone - you showed how to play competitive inter-club matches in the right spirit.
