WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/09/2023 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/09/2023 HEADLINE: A hot trip to the seaside LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: North Norfolk RESULT: WON 4-3 REPORT: Another hot day for city 3s as they take on the first game in the league against North Norfolk. The pitch felt like we were on the Sherringham coast, but we started applying pressure early. First goal came from a short corner that Evie did a left slip to mother Helen, who tactically left the ball leaving Emily (POTM) to slip it past the goalie. However, North Norfolk fought back and equalised just 2 minutes later in a short corner. Helen hungry for a goal got one in, followed by Chloe. North Norfolk kept defence busy with bambino (Emma) showing impressive composure to clear into space and away from threats. Just before half time North Norfolk got awarded a penalty stroke which got past goalie Joe leaving it at 3-2. 2nd half started with the ball going up and down the pitch and both teams working well to make the ball do the work. Half way through Emily drove to base line, two hands on stick, and fed an unintentional aerial to Helen who secured her second goal and ice cream. In such enthusiasm for the icecream, or goal it's unclear, she leaped for joy and had to sub herself off due to a self inflicted injury. Again defence were under pressure with some dangerous drives from North Norfolk. Holly showed true grit tackling players to keep them away from goal. One tackle was slightly off and she was given a green card and got a few moments rest on the side. One player down we kept them away and midfield worked hard to keep the ball traveling up the pitch in the heat. North Norfolk got one more goal in 5 mins before the end and closed the game as a win to city at 4-3. As like last week, the energy and determination wouldn't have been as high without captain Claire, mascot Bella , and loyal supporter Gemma

WOMENS 4TH XI - 16/09/2023 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 16/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 16/09/2023 HEADLINE: Fun in the Sun (Not)! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Dragons 4, City 1 REPORT: Firstly, Congratulations to Captain Harriet who gave birth to baby Archie Wednesday, 13th September. On a bright warm September morning, NC4’s hosted Dragons 5’s in a keenly contested, competitive game where both teams struggled to get the measure of a very bouncy pitch, where the ball bobbled with a mind of its own. It was Dragons who started the stronger, in the first 10 minutes, as NC4’s chased the ball, gradually developing into the game, and competing well. Dragons took the lead midway through the first half, but City responded quickly finding the equaliser after a strong attack from the right which eventually fell to Sarah Louden who batted the ball high into the Dragons net after the ball came out from the keeper. City were awarded several short corners in the first half but couldn’t penetrate the Dragons defence. Dragons scored their second goal on the whistle of half time. Good advice from coach Ali at half time, we all felt this game was ours for the taking. League debuts with 4’s for Lucy Polak, Chloe Green, Molly Crabtree and Sofia Hancy who all stepped up to the task and worked tirelessly in the heat. Susan Matthews did her marathon training running end to end in support of attack and defence and stand in Captain Cary Briggs made some deft touches to create some attacking play. With only one sub the heat and effort started to take its toll on City. The swift accurate passing hockey which we had played in the first half changed through tiredness, leaving us pressured into making mistakes often too keen to give the ball to the opposition, putting the defence of Jenny Brine, Jess Tunnard, Karen Hobden, Sue Tomlinson and Chloe Green under pressure. Anna Linsmith made some essential saves to keep us in the game. It was Dragons who scored twice more leaving the chase well out of touch for City, final scoreline 4.1 to Dragons. POTM votes shared between Jen Brine and Sue T, with the casting vote coming in favour of Sue. Valuable side line support from Molly Scott and El Jarvis, very much appreciated.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 16/09/2023 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 16/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 16/09/2023 HEADLINE: Home Derby defeat LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 2-0 to Broadland REPORT: After a difficult week pulling the team together and securing a goalie, we arrived in good spirits and with surprisingly healthy numbers. We knew Broadland were going to be hard, but we were ready to give them a fight. Broadland started fast and powerful from the offset, winning a short corner only minutes in to the game and managing to convert it. We didn't let it stop us though, we fought back and kept our heads clear and focussed on the task in hand. We kept them honest, passed the ball well and held good position. We managed to get a short corner, which we thought we had converted it to get us to 1-1, but disallowed! City in uproar, but it was called! Heads up, we went again and powered through to half time, no further goals. Talks at half time were that we were doing the right things but had to persevere and hopefully it would come. We went back out there, kept energy and pace and kept Broadland on their toes. Unfortunately, another short corner came against us and another ball got torpedoed in to our goal. 2-0! City fought to the end, no let up, no negativity and we fought hard. Taking a final short corner in the final seconds saw the entire team on the edge of Broadland's D, and we battled to get that one goal back, but just wasn't to be. Final whistle came and we held our heads up - no field goals feels like a win to me.
