REPORT: 
It was an epic game for the NCHC womens 3s on Saturday; battling Dragons 4s in gale force winds. A good start for City but, with missed opportunities and missed short corners, the hosts just couldn’t find the goal. With Dragons fighting hard and something not quite clicking for City, Dragons snatched a goal just before half time.  
 
After some wise words from the home side coach Pies at half time, City started the second half with steely determination. An early short corner saw captain Kim Lusher smash the ball home. (Her fourth goal of the season, just in case you hadn’t heard!) City’s second goal came from an excellent ball in, as always, from Niamh Campbell. The keeper went to ground and Player of the match Holly Totten managed to push it past and into the goal.  
Some great passing play and strong defending saw City continue with enthusiasm, and Caroline Illing secured the third goal. City continued to pass the ball with confidence making great use of space. Again, Niamh picked up the ball and made a fantastic pass to Holly. One on one with the keeper, Holly side stepped and pushed the ball in for a glorious fourth City goal. Great running and positioning from Olivia Greenway saw her grab the next score, with her sister Emily securing the final goal of the game after fighting hard on the goal line.  
 
A fantastic team effort today, all players working hard and determined to win in Holly’s last game for Norwich City Hockey Club. What a send off for our star player!

MENS 1ST XI - 16/03/2019 VS CHELMSFORD 1     (H)

HEADLINE: City settle for hard earned draw against Chelmsford. 
LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A

REPORT: 
City welcomed Chelmsford to the Taverham H2O hoping to secure their place in Prem A for next season after a disappointing loss to Harleston the week prior. City with a reshuffled line up, were hoping to take points. 
 
The game began and City were off to a shaky start with Chelmsford seeing a lot of the ball in the early stages. City’s defence held strong however, and the match remained level. City gathered themselves and began movingly the ball around nicely, transferring it round the back four.. Midway into the half, City opened the scoring after a great passing move split open the Chelmsford defence and was finished off smartly by Cameron Cooke. City came close to extending their lead when a close range effort form Chris Wardale required some attention from the Chelmsford goal keeper and defenders, as they worked well to scramble the ball off their own goal line. Nearing the end of the first half City conceded a short corner which, unfortunately for City, was rifled into the top left corner of the City net.  
 
Half-time 1-1 
 
City began the half knowing they could get something from this game and were unlucky to be behind after a solid first half performance. The game became a end to end affair with neither team able to capitalise on counter attack opportunities. This was until Cameron Cooke struck again. A great solo run from inside the City half was clinically finished around a helpless Chelmsford keeper. City were back ahead. Chelmsford upped the intensity and began to press City higher up the pitch. However, City coped well and were able to keep the opposition at bay. It wasn’t until a miss controlled ball at the back lead to panic in the City D and, unfortunately for City, ended with Chelmsford being awarded a penalty flick. Despite Alistair Cooke getting a pad to the ball it still made it’s way over the goal line. The score was level once more. City reacted well, creating a couple of great chances, but lacked the finishing touches needed to convert. A highlight in the second half for City came when Gabriel Marchant attempted a press up tackle to win the ball back but, despite his creativity, this came to nothing except a free hit for Chelmsford. With the game coming to a close City had to be alert to keep out another Chelmsford corner with seconds to go.

Overall a great performance from City who were unfortunate to to take all three points form this game. However, with this result City have secured themselves a spot in Prem A next season. Hopefully City can continue this good run of form for their last two games of the season. 

MENS 2ND XI - 16/03/2019 VS CROSTYX 1 (A)

HEADLINE: Fantastic effort by valiant City! 
LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 
VENUE: Lee Valley (Not so good pitch!) 
RESULT: 4-3 Loss 
 
REPORT: 
Travelling with a rather new looking and depleted squad City were up against a side who were still right in the battle for survival and a side that had only lost 6 games all season and conceded only 36 goals, which in Division 1 is a valiant effort.  
 
City started well and created several early chances putting a lot of pressure on the Crostyx backline, and opened the scoring when an excellent move was glanced home by Jack Luther. 1-0 at City kept on applying pressure and creating chances, sadly however one short corner to Crostyx lead to an equaliser. 1-1 however soon became 2-1 again to the away side with POTM Ben Plumb dribbling through the Crostyx defence and firing a low shot into the goal. However an excellent spell of pressure from the home side saw another equalising goal for the home side, 2-2. It looked to be all square heading into half time before out of no where Jack Luther fired an excellent effort into the top corner from the edge of the D to make it 3-2 to City! 
 
Into the second half and skipper Hindle in his new role of centre back as well as Ling were put under a lot of pressure, despite keeping the home side out for a good 20 minutes a fired ball into the D took the slightest deflection of a Crostyx attacker and they equalised once again and sadly a tiring City conceded once more to loose out once again by 1 goal and once again to the finest of margins.  
 
Despite another loss it was a very enjoyable game and credit to Crostyx who put on a lovely match tea after and were great hosts. Congratulations to youngsters Ben Chapman and Elliot Fox who both performed extremely well on debut.  

MENS 3RD XI - 16/03/2019 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 1     (H)

RESULT: 7-1 loss 
 
REPORT: 
Having lost 9-0 to Bury earlier in the season, and knowing a win for Bury would result in their promotion, City knew they would be facing a tough game. With the Gresham's contingent arriving via Hyatt Transportation Services, City were once again, mainly fielding a team where the average age was below 20. 
City started incredibly well and passed the ball between each other, with all players linking up well. Sam Hyatt joined Skipper Adam Sayer in the middle at the back, and made some confident tackles and distributed the ball well. Cameron Husband and Tobias Leonard both equally played well either side.  
Under mounting Bury pressure, a short corner was conceded and Bury put it away, taking the lead. However, it wasn't long before City equalised when an aerial from Tobias Leonard found the forward lines, and Joe Holden (yes you read that correct), smacked the ball into the netting. It wasn't long before Bury took the lead again, then scored another just before half time. 
City started the second half strong but as legs tired and the passing dropped, Bury saw openings and punished City. Special mention to keeper Bobby Rash who made some terrific saves. 
Final score 7-1 to Bury, who secured their promotion.

RESULT:lost 7-3 
 
REPORT:The first half was a fairly even affair but at the beginning of the second half we went to pieces and gave away several goals after that the team gained its composure and made the score line look reasonable. We were unlucky to not score a couple more goals as Ady Marr and Nigel Cushion went close to scoring.
