WOMENS 1ST XI - 15/10/2022 VS HAVERING 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 15/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 15/10/2022 HEADLINE: BOUNCE BACK WEEK LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-1 REPORT: City were ready and raring to go for their game against Havering ready to bounce back from their defeat to Cambridge the week prior. This intensity was shown from the off with some early forays into Haverings 23. A quick break from Havering meant they took the lead against the run of play, but it wasn’t to be long before city levelled up the game. The first goal coming courtesy of Krystal Bishop who slotted home after Emily Francis slipped it under the diving keeper. The flood gates opened from here and Sophie Sidgwick was next on the scoresheet beating a couple of defenders and calmly rounding the keeper too. A great team move lead to the third goal with Micayla Tootill setting up Bishop again, who beat defenders and slid the ball past the keeper for Olivia Williams to finish into the bottom corner. After half time it was more of the same, Havering growing more and more frustrated and any attempt they had being thwarted by a solid defensive unit. Great distribution through the middle of the pitch lead to Sophie Sidgwick found the backboard for a second time, with Ellie Brine completing the 5-1 win with a well taken short corner. An all round team performance.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 15/10/2022 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 15/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 15/10/2022 HEADLINE: A Learning Curb in Cambridge LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Cambridge, Wilberforce Road RESULT: 4-1 Loss REPORT: On Saturday the 2s travelled to Cambs and played Cambridge City W3s, injuries and availability meant a reduced squad but a great opportunity for a couple of 3s players to play and pulling Jo from her country life retirement, the draw of a trip to Cambridge, 15 hot showers to chose from and a yummy pasta bake for teas was too much to resist! City warmed up well and were ready to play some awesome hockey, however, once that first whistle blew, City fell apart and forgot what they were doing. Cambridge had hit then hard, the 2s scrappily tried to organise themselves and Sally did some great defending supported by G, but the ball rarely left City's defending 25. Despite some excellent defending during short corners, Cambridge managed to sneak one past the defence and go ahead. POTM Summer was called into action numerous times, making many 2nd and 3rd phase saves before the ball was cleared by the defense. After 10 minutes City found their feet and were beginning to play some nice hockey, Emily made some lovely runs down the wing supported by Milly up front. Some neat play from Cambridge left an overload in defence and a 2vs1 situation in the D and Cambridge scored. City were determined to fight back, the ball came out from defence and along the left hand, passing between several players, Sophie charged into the D with the ball and beautifully passed it to India, making her 2s debut in absolute style, deflected it perfectly into the bottom corner of the goal. City used this as the boost they needed and faught hard for the rest of the half. Helen pushed the ball high in the middle and there were a few opportunities but none converted. At halftime City were reminded of their capabilities and to keep battling and they entered the second half ready to continue their comeback. Unfortunately this didnt come, Cambridge continued to apply the pressure however Jess and Libby put up a good fight, preventing many circle entries and hassling the forwards allowing Summer to make easier saves. Despite their best efforts, the team couldn't hold out forever and Cambridge managed to score 2 more goals. City continued to push back and played some lovely hockey starting from Jo at the back, up the line to Lauren and finally to Emma in the D showing some lovely play across the goal but the ball wouldn't quite cross the line. The final whistle blew and City accepted their second defeat of the season, they had worked their socks off and knew that they done what they could. Onwards and upwards, City look forward to their trip to Peterborough next weekend and are hoping to achieve their first away win of the season.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 15/10/2022 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 15/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 15/10/2022 HEADLINE: Hockey with a smile LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-3 REPORT: 'We arrived to a buoyant atmosphere in the changing room, with stand-in captain Kim Cleave leading the discussion on tactics and Karen Dagless providing some analysis of our upcoming Bury opposition. L3s nailed a brisk warm up, with Nathan and Ali providing coaching wisdom from the side line. As the first half started, the play was evenly match with play at both ends of the pitch. Bury's first goal came from a straight strike from the top of the D, deflection from a city stick. The latter goals were clipped in from Bury’s youngsters. Putting the above aside, city are growing as a team and will start scoring points with time. As long as you can come of the pitch with a smile then thats not a bad result. Well done to everyone. Special well done to Serena Scott for POTM this week and for a very colourful match report prior to this edit.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 15/10/2022 VS UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 15/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 15/10/2022 HEADLINE: A fantastic win for City 5s REPORT: LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 Win! REPORT: After our accidental promotion to Div 3, City 5s have been fighting tooth and nail each week for points! We are certainly not lacking in team spirit and with our amazing captains, Amy Corden and Chloe Green and our match day coach Marie Hood we are always fired up and raring to go! This week was no exception! With UEA 3s currently towards the bottom of the table and after beating them both times we met last season we knew we had a fighting chance this week and the 3 points were on the table for the taking. City side started off strong from the outset with Marie Hood and Chloe Green dominating the midfield posession and feeding excellent balls out to Alice Hood, Esme Abbott, Lottie Hood, Amy Corden and Jane Loughridge. It wasn't long before this dominance led to Marie scoring city's first goal at 18mins after some nifty changing of direction which forced fouls from her opposition. With excellent ball distribution from Bev Cushion and Rose Byrne down the left hand side we had several more chances to score and finally we did with a beautiful assist from Marie Hood at the top of the D through to a graceful tap in from Amy Corden on the left post. It was like watching in slow motion it was so beautiful! Our two youngsters Alice Hood and Lottie Hood used their super speed and nifty skills to make some excellent tackles and attempts on goal. A strike from Alice on the far right was converted by Esme Abbott just before half time taking our score to 3-0. After half time UEA certainly came out with more fight and made several attempts themselves on our D which allowed Annette Peters and Jo Di-Corpo to briefly get involved in the game. Netty cool and calm in defence didn't allow a single player past her as she took over in a pivotal sweeper role this match. Jo's one on one shuffle at the top of the D in her pads was successful as well and she incredibly kept the score sheet against us blank! Sofia Hancy was as usual making excellent rolls outs and runs across the pitch at lightning speed which allowed us to break through UEA defence again and again. This time support by Rose who played a higher position this week and even had an attempt on goal herself! Towards the end of the second half there were a few tired passes from both sides but our team spirit and determination won through for us time and time again as we maintained possession and kept attacking the opposition D. Bev's well timed and brutally accurate tackles allowed for quick turn overs and great use of space for more City attack. Another amazing goal from Esme Abbott came 13 minutes into the second half. Esme who is new to the team this season has certainly taken the challenges of a new team and new league into her long, super quick stride as she out paces and out meanouves her opponents. Out final goal of the match was scored from an effortless strike at the top of the D from Marie who again had an absolute blinder of a match. After such an intensive and well worked game from everyone it was a very well deserved comfortable win for City 5s. POTM was Emma Guyton who finally got her mojo back this week! Thanks for an amazing game everyone!

WOMENS 6TH XI - 15/10/2022 VS LODDON 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 15/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 15/10/2022 HEADLINE: Show Down At Langley LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Langley School RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: A sunny day at Langley School pitch to play Loddon and a new line-up with lots of team members who had never played together before. Norwich 6s have been promoted to a higher league this season – moving up along with today’s Loddon opponents who finished just below them last season. This made a win at Langley an important gain if Norwich are to succeed in the new league. The new squad still need time to find their rhythm for the season, but unfortunately didn’t have the luxury of easing into this game slowly. A forceful Loddon pressed City hard forcing them to work hard to maintain a clean sheet. The ball moved from end to end with Norwich turning the ball over more than they would like as they struggled to find their usual passing rhythm. Loddon failed to score and Norwich won plenty of action in their attacking 25 but unfortunately couldn’t quite find the net. Norwich went into the half time break at nil nil and after a motivating talk from captain Elle went back out determined to score. In the second half, Loddon attempted to outlet from numerous 16s, but Norwich were pressing harder and picking up botched clearances in midfield. While Norwich were never out of danger they managed to penetrate Loddon’s D much more successfully in the second half. At last, Norwich found the net, slotting it round the right side of the keeper to go one goal ahead. The rest of the match was a continued battle to keep Loddon off the scoresheet and there was relief when the final whistle sounded and Norwich had won.

MENS 1ST XI - 16/10/2022 VS NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 16/10/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 16/10/2022 HEADLINE: Norwich City Men's 1s Unbeaten Run Ends Versus Tough Nottingham Squad LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: Nottingham Hockey Centre RESULT: 5-3 L REPORT: 2 wins and 1 draw in our debut national league campaign saw the squad in good spirits for the away trek to Nottingham where we were greeted by plenty old Norwich faces currently attending Nottingham University. Unfortunately 1 was playing against us. After part of our Warmup consisting of watching some international hockey players warmup at the Beeston vs Old Georgians match across the car park we headed over to get ready for our clash. We knew it would a different test to our previous 3 games with the youth of a university side aswell as their 1s being a National Premier League outfit and a few minutes in we could see why as they dominated possession and didn't let us get comfortable on the ball before suffocating us. We held strong for 8 minutes of Nottingham possession in our half before they made it pay with a quick pass and move down the right hand side that came down The baseline and picked out former Norwich player Harry Patterson for a reverse into our net and a well earned lead. We began to press higher and make it tougher for the university boys but after a few almost breaks and a shot saved from Stu Wardle we found Nottingham in our D again and they won a short, which they gladly dragged home for a 2-0 lead to end Q1. We continued to grow into the game and the 2nd quarter saw Notts spend far less time in our half and we started to threaten more and more at their end. Chris wardale had a shot saved, Stu Wardale had a deflection saved before Jonty Black cooly won a short corner. Thomas Cooke planted the ball through the keepers legs to get our tally going. The game was far more balanced now with both sides creating equal chances although Notts won their 2nd short corner of the game and with another drag to the left but this time low and deflected in they had restored their 2 goal lead and a minute later a quickly taken free hit caught us off guard and it was 4-1 seconds before half time. 15 minutes of hard work turn upside down in the final minutes of the quarter. HT: 4-1. 2nd half started. 30 seconds later Notts had scored their 5th. We were caught diving in and they gleefully passed round us to find an open man at the back post for a tap-in. That was just the wake up call we needed. Caught their back 4 off guard with a few aerials that saw Cam Cooke & Ben Chapman have chances, before a Josh Baker hit forced a good save from the Nottingham keeper. Jonty Black then broke into the D and won his 2nd short corner of the day. Unfortunately the Nottingham keeper was equal to Thomas Cooke this time. Q3: 5-1. Finally 5 minutes into quarter 4 our 2nd half dominance paid off. Josh Baker lifted the ball passed one defender before planting it onto another ones foot. Chris Wardale stepped up for this one and dragged home our 2nd goal. We then forced the keeper into a great double save as Harry Brown found Louis Preston in the D for a shot and Stu Wardle came in for the rebound but we remained 3 goals behind. With a few minutes to go Harry Gill won a short corner and Thomas Cooke got his second and made it 3 goals from 4 short corners for us on the day! Finished 5-3. Our first loss on the season. 5-3 probably not the result the 2nd half performance reflected but a resilient comeback that showed alot of mental toughness from the 5-1 down halfway through. Thankfully the loss wasn't enough for Nottingham to leapfrog Norwich and we remain 3rd ahead of a huge 3rd vs 2nd clash in Peterborough up next.
