WOMENS 2ND XI - 15/02/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 15/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 15/02/2020 HEADLINE: Disappointing Draw at Dragons LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragon's Den RESULT: 1-1 Draw REPORT: Match report: We started the game with a desire to win. We went out hard to create multiple short corner opportunities early on. After a few tries, the perfect amount of quick passes and a deflection off Rosie Humphrey, started the team off with great confidence. We kept pressing hard and had some strong defence meaning they struggled to get into our 25. However, with 5 minutes left of the first half, and some frustrating umpire decisions, it led to a 1-1 draw by the half time whistle. After a reassuring team talk, we went out fighting with good distributions across the pitch and good drives from our forward lines. Unfortunately, we were unable to turn our attacks into goals, and finished the game 1-1. POTM was Ellie Hobden

MENS 1ST XI - 15/02/2020 VS WAPPING 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 15/02/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 15/02/2020 HEADLINE: Tough game LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: Another trip to Lee Valley for the Men’s 1st team this weekend to face second in the table Wapping 2’s, on a day in which Storm Dennis didn’t put the team off travelling and playing. Both teams started with great intensity which led to a feisty affair with two competitive sides. Playing into the wind first half Norwich broke Wappings press on a number of occasions but no avail with great work from Ingham, Wardale and Cresswell leading the line. Midway through the first half, City conceded a short corner and a well worked routine to the back post saw Wapping take the lead. Not soon after a counter attack from Wapping led to a second, their forward driving round the base line with a simply ball to the flick spot for the on rushing forward to put the ball into the net. Apart from a couple of momentary lapses in concentration, City had troubled Wapping for large parts of the half and a couple of short corners for City through the outfield Cooke double act before the end of the first half followed but sadly not converted. Down wind for the second half and message to keep intensity high, the press worked well with Wapping giving the ball away numerous times in dangerous areas led to City having more opportunities however still unable to capitalise. Tempers flared and cards issued, Morgan the unlikely and unfortunate recipient of a yellow and a 5 minute sit down. City battled on mopping up any Wapping attacks, the defensive unit led by Brown stopped any attacks and distribute well through the screens and outer midfielders. The final whistle went and a frustrating afternoon for Norwich with a 2-0 loss in a game where points could’ve been picked up. A week off for Norwich allows them time to prepare for the league leaders West Herts.

L (0-1) 15/02/2020 - M3 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (A / L) SOMETIMES GETTING IT IN THE GOAL IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE |

MENS 3RD XI - 15/02/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 15/02/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 15/02/2020 HEADLINE: Sometimes getting it in the goal is easier said than done LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 1-0 Loss REPORT: Against the windy backdrop of Storm Dennis at Dragons, the Mens 3s played their city rivals in Dragons 3rd XI. With both teams in and around the relegation zone, a favourable result would lift us above our opponents and towards the middle of the table. After a fairly even start with chances for both teams, it was Dragons that struck first following a lapse in control from City; this being said, we created many chances, including a couple of penalty corners and a brilliant counter attacking move. If we’re honest, had it not been for their keeper the score would have been at least all square going into half-time. After a half-time team talk focusing on stretching the pitch and playing the ball earlier, that’s exactly what we did! The forward line did a brilliant job of saying high meaning that, even though the wind sent many balls off-path, when the ball did go where it was intended City looked very dangerous. After a couple of saves from Millett, it was their keeper's turn to once again make a quadruple save to deny us. A couple of bewildering umpiring decisions later meant that dragons should have gone down to 10, but didn’t... City had just enough time at the end for a couple of chances, but as the score line suggests we couldn’t convert. Simon summed up the game nicely at full time, saying “we played really really well second half, but sometimes you just can’t get the ball within that white rectangle"

W (6-1) 16/02/2020 - MX vs Chelmsford Mixed (H / EH MX T1 R3) IN-FORM CITY MIXED SEE OFF CHELMSFORD IN TIER 1 CUP |

MIXED XI - 16/02/2020 VS CHELMSFORD MIXED (H) TEAM: Mixed XI DATE: 16/02/2020 FIXTURE: Mixed XI VS 16/02/2020 HEADLINE: In-form City Mixed See Off Chelmsford in Tier 1 Cup Norwich City Mixed XI continues into round 5 of the National Tier 1 knock-out cup on Sunday with a convincing 6-1 win over Chelmsford. Two early short corner goals from Thomas Cooke were testament to the fact that Norwich settled early into the game and took control from the start, with some strong work through the middle of the pitch from Louis Preston, Sophie Mullan, Jo Staines, Richard Green and Harriet Preston. Despite some excellent work from the Chelmsford goal-keeper, the pressure from the Norwich city attack was unrelenting and Cameron Cooke eventually found a third goal, meaning Norwich went into half time leading 3-0. Norwich started the second half in the same, confident manner as the first and Krystal Bishop and Cameron Cooke quickly found goals 4 and 5. Chelmsford continues to work hard and eventually were rewarded for their efforts with a goal from breakaway play which caught Norwich too high on the pitch, despite excellent defensive work from Harry Brown and Chris Wardale at the back. With minutes to go before the final whistle Richard Green scored to make the final score 6-1 to Norwich City, with the player of the match going to Harriet Preston. Norwich City mixed, in excellent for this season, sail in round 5 of the mixed cup, to be played 22nd March and are looking forward to the next challenge.
