WOMENS 1ST XI - 14/12/2019 VS WISBECH (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 14/12/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 14/12/2019 HEADLINE: NCHC Womens 1s complete convincing 2nd round cup win LEAGUE: England Hockey Tier 2 Cup - Round 2 VENUE: TRF RESULT: 7-1 REPORT: NCHC womens 1s welcomed Wisbech to TRF for their 2nd round Tier 2 cup clash. Having had a weeks break since their final league match this side of Christmas City were keen to get on the pitch and were in fine festive spirit. Trying out a new formation didn’t phase the team as City started out strongly playing how they like to play, moving the ball round the pitch with pace and slick passing. The midfield and forwards worked hard from the whistle keeping constant pressure on Wisbech’s defence. City’s forward line of Oli Williams, Stacey Lee and Krystal Bishop made Wisbech’s keeper work hard as they moved the ball round the D with ease and it wasn’t long before Stacey’s silky skills won a number of short corners. City’s first goal came after an initial straight strike that was saved by the keeper but came neatly to Suzy Edwards’s waiting stick at the post, textbook finish. City 1-0 up. City continued to pile on the pressure through the hardworking midfield of Alice Gill, Kate Houldey, Rachel Mayne, Jocasta Staines, Lucy Tilbrook, Rachael Phillips and captain Ellie Brine. City’s defensive unit of Harriet Preston, Suzy Edwards, Hannah Jarvis, Helen Busfield and Mikayla-Mae Glover had little to do with minimal breaks by Wisbech into City’s half with only 1 short corner that was calmly cleared and moved swiftly back up the pitch. City’s second and third goals came from Krystal ‘goal scoring machine’ Bishop. First a short corner neat deflection from the P spot and then some fantastic work down the line starting from Helen Busfield linking well with Oli and Stacey to Krystal who found the back the net with a stunning over head flick over the keeper. Half time City leading 3-0. Wisbech started the 2nd half strongly and City made a few defensive errors leading to a goal for Wisbech. City responded with increased pressure and Wisbech D penetration with several short corners being won. City’s fourth goal came from a Stacey Lee strike from the top of the D. With all the possession City’s 5th goal came from another short corner breakdown that found Jocasta Staines who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner. More short corners won by City and another goal from Krystal (scores hat-tricks only) from a very tight angle outside the right post. Last but not least Oli scored City’s 7th and final goal after tirelessly working hard all match. Final score 7-1 to City, onwards and upwards to round 3. See you in the new year!
