REPORT: 
The women’s 1st X1 made the trip down to Maidstone on Saturday hoping to kick start their season after being on the wrong side of some close games already this season.  
 
The game unfortunately got off to the worst possible start with Maidstone coming out of the blocks the sharpest and pressing hard to score the opening goal inside two minutes. City tried to thwart the buoyant home team but found themselves 2-0 down soon after.  
 
The Norwich side did find their stride with a period of sustained pressure in the Maidstone circle, winning several penalty corners; but unable to convert. However, the attacking pressure continued to mount and finally broke the home defence when Krystal Bishop linked well with City debutant Stacey Lee who converted in the top right corner to bring the score to 2-1. The home team were next to score with a reverse shot despite the advances of the City defence, leaving the half time score 3-1. 
 
The visitors were keen to step things up in the second half and thought they had done just that in the early minutes when Olivia Williams converted at the back post but a lack of advantage played and a hasty blow of the whistle from the umpire meant that the goal did not stand and City were instead awarded a penalty corner which they couldn’t convert. 
 
Maidstone took full advantage of their fortune and were keen not to let their lead slip away. They scored twice more in quick succession leaving the score now 5-1. City did not lie down and continued to press. Lovely link up play down the left hand side then saw Williams find Bishop on the baseline who crossed the ball towards the flick spot with the advancing Lee able to dive to meet the cross and convert with a well timed deflection for her second of the game. Norwich continued to push but it wasn’t enough, the final scored stayed 5-2 to the hosts. 
 

WOMENS 2ND XI - 12/10/2019 VS YARMOUTH 1 (H)

REPORT: 
This was a well-deserved victory for City who maintained constant pressure on their opponents, particularly in the second half of the game. City went 1-0 up in the first few minutes of the game with a well-worked goal from the forward line and Rosie Ringer, who netted the goal. City were on top throughout due to their high level of intensity, thanks to the regular substitutions and large squad, and great teamwork which denied Yarmouth possession. Norwich launched wave after wave of attack, with the forward line’s speed and slick passing overpowering the Yarmouth defenders, allowing us to win many short corners and have many goal opportunities. The second goal came when Emma Hewitt managed to beat the keeper with a powerful hit which crashed into the bottom corner. 
 
 
City came out into the second half confident they could convert their many chances into more goals and, as the Yarmouth defence started to tire, Norwich kept the opposition under constant pressure. City continued to dominate the play with the defence and midfield working well to transfer the ball, breaking up Yarmouth’s defensive structure, and eliminating any counter-attacks and loose balls. There were many opportunities for goals again and some great shooting but City could not find the back of the net. The third goal came from the final play of the match in which Norwich won a short corner. City brought all their players up to the D as the umpires blew the final whistle. A powerful hit from Leigh-Ann Worrall and a deflection from player of the match Kate Houldey led to the final goal and the end of an excellent game.

REPORT: 
Norwich City womens 3s were hosted by Broadland 2s in a slow-to-start game that gained momentum as it developed. City's Emily Spencer opened the scoring, followed by one from Marie Hood, giving them a conservative two goal lead going into half time. 
Marie got a second goal and her tally of two was matched by Emily Leeming, who got two more consecutive goals herself. Mia Moore finished off the exciting second half with a sixth goal for City in a convincing win by the close of play.

REPORT: The 4s played east coast 2s on Saturday. Both teams fought competitively trying to conduct a goal, they achieved to get a goal within the first half but this didn’t mean we gave up we managed to come back and score a goal in the second half, meaning we were levelling with their goal. In the second half we were transferring a long ball which meant we were able to make our game a lot easier and we definitely took in what we did in training so Well done to all the womens despite several players in different positions.

REPORT: 
The pitch at Dereham was tricky to play on - soggy and covered in mud patches after flooding in the heavy rain the week before. The surface was slippery and Norwich 6s never quite found their feet physically or metaphorically in this struggle of a match. City’s defenders and POM goalie Beth Wiskin worked hard to keep Dereham at bay, but a Dereham goal eventually found the net. City were delighted to get an equaliser goal on the scoresheet, however, when a shot from Caitlin Nicholson was saved by the keeper, sent in again by Nihaal Hanif saved once again – then finally slipped in the net by Sofia Hancy. This led to a draw for much of the match, but a second Dereham goal meant City had to finally come away disappointed.

On Saturday, Norwich City Men’s 1s took on the newly promoted IES. Coming off the back of a loss the week before against Cambridge City. The team needed to remember the key principles they have been working on over the last few weeks. From the get-go, they displayed some high intensity hockey, scoring two goals in quick succession within the first 10 minutes of the game. Despite doubling their lead before half time, the team’s concentration slipped and IES scored a well-placed drag flick, beating Alastair Cooke.  
The second half was a little different from the first, Norwich became their own worst enemy losing three players to cards within 5 mins. IES managed to snatch one more goal during this time, though the remaining players managed this part of the game superbly, defending well, and running down the clock till the rest of the players were allowed back on the pitch.  
Despite that second goal, Norwich managed to score 4 more goals before the final whistle. Cameron Cooke scoring 4 in total and winning himself man of the match. Thomas Cooke also scored 2, with Harry Cresswell and Chris Wardale, taking one apiece.  
After this good performance from the boys, they now see themselves sitting in 4th place in the league, with some crucial games coming up. 

MENS 2ND XI - 12/10/2019 VS PELICANS 1 (A)

REPORT: 
Norwich City started well creating a few chances early on. After a shot from outside the D was rightly disallowed Pelicans broke quickly and scored. 2 more goals and it was not looking good going into half time, but a late reverse stick goal from Jack Luther gave the team hope of yet another comeback. Sadly we started the second half slowly and conceded a short corner. Another attempt at a comeback was on when Jack Luther scored again followed up by a goal from Harry Gill. Unfortunately Pelicans replied by slotting their 5th goal in. Late on in the second half Jonty Black scored but it was too little too late to stop Pelicans from claiming a 5-4 victory. 
 

MENS 3RD XI - 12/10/2019 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H)

REPORT: 
Men's threes failed to capitalise on their domination and countless short corners with North Norfolk doing an effective smash and grab job with virtually two shots resulting in two goals. 
 
In the first half the team were playing some very fluent hockey moving the ball quickly and effectively. This play resulted in getting in the D often and creating high amounts of chances. The team also managed to win lots of short corners and one of these ended in a George Bowman deflected goal from the p spot after a great ball in from the right slip. The team went in 1-0 at half time.  
 
Second half was a little different with the fluent play from the first half not quite presenting itself. The team still managed to create a number of decent chances and also won yet more short corners but the ball didnt seem to want to go in the back of the net with the North Norfolk keeper making a number of high quality saves. Norfolk Norfolk managed to grab two break away goals but offered very little apart from this leading to the team being extremely disappointed with the defeat but there were certainly a number of positives to take.  
 

MENS 4TH XI - 12/10/2019 VS IPSWICH 2 (A)

REPORT: 
A depleted City team made the trip to Tuddenham Road to face a well numbered Ipswich team.  
 
The high work rate of the 11-man City team was commended by the opposition, spectators and teammates at the full time whistle, but Ipswich used the extra subs to maintain a higher tempo of hockey.  
 
Some great saves from Luke Elwes in goal kept the scoreline down, rightly earning Man of the Match in the process.

REPORT: this was a close game against Dereham which resulted in a 1-0 win for us , the only goal was scored by John Whitlam. POTM was awarded to David Broadway. 
 

MENS 7TH XI - 12/10/2019 VS NORFOLK NOMADS 2 (H)

Despite a number of player changes from previous matches the team gelled well from the start and played some great open passing hockey moving the ball about to great effect. The result was a 2-0 lead at half time, the second goal of which was a stunning strike from the edge of the D by POTM Angus Irving.  
 
Our quality of play continued in the second half and pleasingly we put into effect the aspects identified during the half time talk and another goal duly followed to seal a thoroughly deserved 3-0 win.  
 
The few chances created by Norfolk Nomads were competently dealt with by the defence including a good reaction save by Tom Line in goal. 
 
Overall a assured performance.  
 

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 12/10/2019 VS EAST COAST (A)

REPORT:A four thirty push back was pushed back just gone five due to an injury delay in an earlier game. 
Despite this, City were primed and ready for action, welcoming Joel Luckett and Douglas Halls for 
their debut game in the Devs. 
East Coast fielded an energetic team, bolstered by two adults at the back shaping the play and 
implementing vigorous rushes into the City half. City, without a goal keeper, played three across the 
back – Kieran Shapcott on the right and Will Myhill on the left, calmly organised with great 
communication by Ben Hawes as centre back. Shapcott repeatedly closed down and cleared 
numerous East Coast attacks with well-timed interceptions followed by accurate passes to his 
midfield. Myhill, also reading the game very well, was consistently well-positioned to make decisive 
tackles, winning the ball and sending it wide left to Ellis Byland-Brookes, ready to turn defence into 
attack. Halls played a determined role at right half, making tackles and passing the ball to his team- 
mates, growing in confidence as the game progressed and enjoying it too. 
In the middle, Harry Morgan found his range and vision, creating width and varying the point of 
City’s attacks. He varied play well, sometimes surging forward, sometimes sending delicate passes 
through to the forward line. After some sustained pressure, City forced a short corner which Louis 
Miller scored with a well struck shot into the corner. This was closely followed by a terrific one-on 
one finish against the goalie by Luckett, perfectly placed in his centre-forward role. 
Following more City attacks down the right, with Charlie Hutchinson combining well with Miller, the 
ball was sent into the D and Ed Beake finished with a clean strike. Not long before half-time, 
Hutchinson scored City’s fourth after a delightful ball through to him from Morgan. 
 
City were determined to continue to improve their ball distribution in the second half. They realised 
the successes gained when they didn’t try to attack through the middle into a wall of opposition 
players. City managed to make the ball do the work much better this week than last time out and 
although there is still room for improvement, chances were made much more frequently due to 
better variation and use of width. Tom Leeming epitomised City’s attitude towards teamwork, with 
countless runs into space and due to this, making space for City’s next goal, created and scored by a 
quick carry into the D and strike by Morgan. This was followed by more City pressure in East Coast’s 
D resulting in Beake’s second goal. Beake showed continued determination, power and skill on the 
left, winning the ball and taking on the intimidating frame of the East Coast right back to great effect 
for the team. 
City completed their 7-0 win with a specially topped bobble strike from Hutchinson from the edge of 
the D which, with a similar trajectory to Barnes-Wallace’s World War Two bouncing bomb, found its 
way into the net.
