WOMENS 1ST XI - 12/03/2022 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: Harleston 2s 2 - 2 Norwich City 1s LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: HARLESTON RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: After last weeks disappointing result, the Womens 1s were desperate to win the local derby to keep the pressure on at the top. Their intent was clear from the pushback and from the first attack of the game, some great first time passing involving Olivia Williams, Jocasta Staines and Stacey Lee saw Krystal Bishop rounding the keeper but last gasp pressure from a defender saw her reverse stick shot just fly wide of the goal. A quick breakaway saw Magpies penetrate the city defence, the game seemed to go into slow motion with a Magpies attacker first to the slow cross and her mishit shot wrong footed Summer Haylock for Magpies to open the scoring against the run of play. Norwich upped the tempo again, Pui Foung Chung and Lucy Tilbrook worked the ball down the right channel to Jo who split the defence with a great through ball and Olivia slipped the ball home leaving City going into the break on level terms The second half saw City dominate possession. The defensive unit, with Hannah Jarvis in particular, looked composed on the ball and snuffled out any Magpie threat. The midfield exerted their dominance, hard tackling from Micalya Tootill and Helen Busfield and with Ellie Brine breaking up play high up the pitch Magpies failed to get a foothold. Another well worked move down the right hand side and a pacy run from Rosie Ringer gave Krystal the opportunity to give City the lead which she duly took with a composed finish. City were however left to rue a number of missed opportunities to take the game away from Magpies and with only a few minutes left on the clock a straight strike from a penalty corner was cruelly deflected home to leave the derby at a stalemate. From the pushback City almost scored the winner but a great block and clearance from the young Magpies keeper saw the game end in a draw, a result which did neither team any favours in the promotion battle.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 12/03/2022 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: Tussel at Taverham to take the league LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE:TRF RESULT:WIN REPORT: Excitement in the changing rooms before the match was high as Norwich City 2s knew that a win against Dragons 2s would see them crowned league champions. This energy was channeled well in the opening minutes of the game with City putting on the pressure. This culminated in a short corner which was swiftly injected by Emily Francis and a slick stop from Georgia Cleveland set up Sophie Bendon to drag flick the ball straight through the legs of the Dragons keeper. Dragons did not drop their heads, however, and put pressure on the back three of Sally Rose, Leigh-Ann Worrall and Lucy Walton but solid defending and a few saves by POM Georgina Barratt ensured City left the pitch 1-0 up at halftime. The pressure of the occasion grew in the second half and tensions rose with each minute that passed without a further goal from City. Some great runs by Milly Brown and Mia Moore ensured continued pressure on the dragons defence but no one could find the backboard. Despite the frustration continued hard work by Danielle Sizer, Lauren Lawrie and Hanna Hall ensured the forwards could keep testing the dragons keeper, who put in some impressive saves. Dragons won a short corner and tensions were building and some taunting in the midfield led to a raucous which resulted in both team captains having to speak to their teams as the umpires paused the game. The game resumed a dragons attempted a drag flick to the right of the goal but this was saved by Georgina Barratt and swiftly dealt with by the defence. A robust tackle by Sophie Bendon saw a green card but city survived this. Ella Gill had been causing Dragons problems all game with a string of key tackles and drives through the midfield which ensured city remained in an attacking mindset. More short corners were won but non were converted and tension rose further still. Dragons then won another short corner but again were denied by the city defence. With 10 minutes to go Sally Rose made an excellent pass into the D which was met by Hollie Joyce who turned it into the goal while running at pass, a superb finish. Finally the tension lifted and City knew they just needed to hold on for the final few minutes. The whistle blew and there was pure elation from the city players now crowned league champions, as well as a shower of champagne. Onto the last two games of the season and the aim to finish the season having won all their league matches.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 12/03/2022 VS YARMOUTH 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: City Came Back Fighting! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: WON 3-2 REPORT: City womens 3's met for a bright, sunny and early pushback at TRF on Saturday determined to make it a different result compared to the previous draw against Yarmouth. Determination was there however, Yarmouth came out fighting and determined to make their mark. The start of the first half saw Yarmouth slip the first goal in making the score 1-0 to Yarmouth. With dampening spirits, City took their mind off the game and unfortunately allowed Yarmouth to get their second goal making to 2-0 to Yarmouth. The light bulb moment happened with some sheer grit and determination City switched on. Great communication, teamwork and attacking play started with the team putting in the leg work. Strong defensive skills from Serena Scott, Gemma Sargent and Gillian Allen held off Yarmouth's attack. Hannah Sangar took the ball and ran, skillfully dodging lots of Yarmouth players, driving the ball into the attacking D and hammering it into the goal. This settled the score to 2 - 1 to Yarmouth at the end of the first half. Half-time saw Coach Nathan give great feedback and guidance on how to approach the second half. L3’s went to second half pushback as if the score was 0-0 and hungry to dominate the latter part of the game. The team pressured Yarmouth by attacking as a whole, putting strong presses on and clear concise communication. L3’s continued good communication and attacking play gaining a number of short corners. A practiced play came to fruition after an injection from Alderton found Marie Hood at the top of the D, a slip left found Captain Claire Snelling who powerfully put the ball into the back of the goal. Equaliser! 2 - 2. L3’s were on a roll and ready to dominate further! With spirits raised and a positive atmosphere, much helped by El Jarvis and her wonderful loud words of wisdom (we have missed your voice and presence) led the fight to turn it around. From this point in L3’s attack was strong and press was impenetrable. Great team work down the right hand side from Hannah Sangar, Uma Patel and Emily Greenway led to the ball being slipped to Caroline Illing on the back post who deflected the ball into the goal making it 3 - 2 to City. Positive coaching from Nathan and Longy on the side kept spirits high and City's formation strong. With not long left of the game, City held out and committed fully to finishing on a win. Yarmouth had some strong advances but were struggling to get through the defensive line up including Kim Moore and Marie Hood. The final whistle blew and a sigh of relief and pure exhilaration from all with the final score being 3 - 2 to City. A triumphant win considering the start of the game saw City L3's 2 - 0 down. A great win for L3’s and a reminder that we deserve to be where we are in the league. A big shout out to POTM Uma Patel!

WOMENS 5TH XI - 12/03/2022 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: Dragon slayers LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 win REPORT:This top of the table clash provided a great game of hockey from both sides. From the outset City put the pressure on making many attacks with some lovely passing. Dragons defence, however, was determined and the score remained 0-0 at half time. Dragons defence , however, didn't stay strong for long at the start of the second half as a great run from Ellie Thompson was made down the right wing. A lovely pass to Amy Hinchliffe was then crossed perfectly across the mouth of the goal which Mille Wimhurst neatly tucked away. City's defence was some of their best all season and kept Dragons at bay. City then got a second goal from a short corner following a lovely strike from Choe Green which Amy Hinchliffe got on the end of and deflected it in on target. The game remained a hard fought battle to the end - Dragons got a goal back late in the second half following a short corner and subsequent hit which was unluckily deflected off the shoulder of City defender Ali McLennan. Dragons were awarded two short corners right at the end of the match but an heroic City defence dug deep and managed to keep them out and having remained unbeaten all season, the Dragons had to concede defeat.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 12/03/2022 VS BROADLAND 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: A Gorgeous March Saturday LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: A beautiful Saturday afternoon saw the Womens 6s take on the Broadland. We got off to a strong start with lots of good passes and lots of action in the attacking D. Many good opportunities for goals in the first quarter ultimately resulted in a great goal from Liz lifting the ball over the diving goalkeeper. Not long after, another opportunity struck and after a scuffle in the D a ball from Ellice pinged off the goalkeeper into the back of the goal. Throughout the game, there were many short corners awarded to us and they were taken nicely with good passing between players. In the second half, lots of great runs down the sidelines and more passing across the pitch which was great and led to a very structured progressing of the ball forwards and towards the goal. Despite the opposing team marking our players extremely closely, there was good movement from both the players and the ball. Also many good interceptions and turnovers from our defensive players. Ultimately it was another shortcorner that pushed us to our 3-0 win, with a fantastic assist from Alice and a great finish from Louisa! Overall, possession of the ball was with us and this game was well played with lots of great runs and passes. Well done all!

L (0-1) 12/03/2022 - M3 vs North Norfolk 1 (H / L) CITY’S UNBEATEN RUN COMES TO AN END |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 12/03/2022 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: City’s unbeaten run comes to an end LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: City went into the match undefeated but knowing that it would be a tough game against a strong North Norfolk side. Although having a lot of possession, City struggled to make many clear-cut chances and eventually went 1-0 down. City responded well to this with some good play but missed a number of chances to level. After some good work from Pallister around the D, Brine missed from close range with a mishit shot. This was followed shortly after by Fretwell’s shot being stopped on the line by Rushton who had been knocked down by the onrushing goalkeeper. Jeffers was arguably unlucky to see his goal disallowed after the umpire had judged his shot to have been backstick. City continued to apply pressure with several drag flick short corners from Curtis. However, the North Norfolk keeper continued his fine performance, keeping everything out. Although having the better chances in the second half, City were lucky not to go 2-0 down when the umpire blew for a short corner as the ball was goal bound. Although City’s unbeaten run came to an end, there were lots of positives that could be taken from the game which should give them confidence going into the final few matches of the season.
