D (1-1) 12/01/2019 - W1 vs West Herts 1 (H / L) DIGGING IN FOR THE DRAW |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 12/01/2019 VS WEST HERTS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: Digging in for the Draw LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-1 REPORT: On the first match back after a long Christmas break, Norwich City welcomed West Herts for the start of the second half of the season. Norwich started strong with some of their trademark quick-pass hockey, finding excellent space down both sides allowing for aggressive penetration into the D early in the half. Krystal Bishop found herself in an excellent position in front of goal at one point but, despite displaying her usual dexterous 3-D skills, could only find the crossbar rather than the back of the net. West Herts countered Norwich's attacks with some strong play of their own, but thanks to some excellent defending from Pui Fong Chung, Jo Staines, Pui Fong Chung, Harriet Johnson, Kathy Sinnamon, and Goalkeeper Mikayla-Mae Glover, their efforts went unrewarded. Before the end of the first half, a quick free hit-out from Pui Fong Chung to Jo Staines in defense traveled up the line to Ellie Brine who found Oli Williams. Quick thinking Williams managed to find Bishop in space at the top of the D, who then quickly and decisively hit the ball across the D and into the back of the goal to make the score 1-0 to Norwich. The second half saw both teams come out fighting, and some excellent passing in the midfield from Rachel Phillips and Sophie Mullan to Emily Francis, Hannah Jarvis, Ellie Brine, Williams and Bishop in the forward line provided Norwich with some exciting opportunities which they were unlucky not to convert. However, West Herts took every opportunity presented by Norwich's attacking formation and, after overturning the ball, made a break which caught many of the Norwich City defense and midfield players unable to chase back in time and led to the equaliser, despite the best efforts of defenders Chung and Toothil, and Goalkeeper Glover. Despite the inimitable aplomb with which Norwich City attacked the last minutes of the game, they were unable to find the extra goal they desired and arguably deserved, leading to a 1-1 draw at full time. Player of the match went to Harriet Johnson for her dynamic defending, and support of attacking play from the back.

Broadland 2s player Nikki Kent got one for the visitors after a quick break. But a couple more goals for City, by Ellie Hobden and captain Kim Lusher, meant that City finished off with an impressive 6-1 victory and a return to their winning ways.

W (6-0) 12/01/2019 - W4 vs Dereham 3 (A / L) A WIN AT LAST!! |
---|
WOMENS 4TH XI - 12/01/2019 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: A win at last!! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 6-0 win REPORT: Norwich City Womens 4th team found themselves with a very late pushback away to bottom of the league, Dereham 3s. This was a very important game for the team as a loss would have seen them switch places with Dereham in the table. Spirits were high after a good warm up and City quickly settled into the game. There were good, strong passes from the start which enabled City to enjoy the possession of the ball which had been lacking in previous weeks. The team were attacking minded, knowing that they needed to come away with a win, and were soon creating chances for shots on goal. Unfortunately one of these early attacks saw Frances Underhill take a fast ball to the foot which left her unable to continue in the game. We all hope to see her back fit to play next week! It wasn’t long after this that City broke the deadlock with a perfectly timed cross from Gabby Sharp into the D for Emily Greenway to slot into the back of the net. City were thrilled to take the lead and manager Simeon Tomlinson had to remind the team to calm down as there was still a long way to go! It was Emily again who went on to get City’s second goal from a cross by Karen Hobden just inside the 23 yard line. City continued with this great momentum and Flo Duffield secured City’s third goal with a shot from the top of the D. Despite City’s lead Dereham did not give up and piled on the pressure. This called for City’s defence to stay alert and play the ball out of danger. On multiple occasions the full backs, Karen Hobden and Gillian Allen, were able to release the ball to City’s half backs, Mia Edmond and Sabina Baker, who both played beyond their years with some fantastic linking play to get the ball up to the midfield and forwards. Sue Tomlinson in the centre was also reliable as usual, distributing the ball effectively to turn defensive play into attacks. City’s keeper, Anna Linsmith, was on form every time that she was called upon. This even included a couple of clearances from the top of the D which ensured that City kept a clean sheet. The fourth goal of the game came towards the end of the first half. A powerful cross from Abi Flatt was tapped in at the right post by Fran Cooke who was perfectly positioned. The second half started slowly with both teams sharing the possession. City were often able to move the ball out of trouble with some accurate passing around the back between Sabina, Karen, Gillian and Mia. City have been working hard on their short corner routines lately and it was through these set pieces that they were able to increase their lead. Sabina injected the ball confidently, firstly to Abi who slipped the ball right for Flo to get her second goal, and on a second occasion Gabby received the ball and slipped it left to Captain, Hannah Sangar, who wrapped up the scoring with City’s sixth goal. This was a fantastic team performance with every player working hard and playing their part. Congratulation to Emily Greenway for being named player of the match for a fantastic attacking mentality which was just what the team needed. A great return to the game for her after a nasty injury that has kept her out since the beginning of the season. Also a big shout out to our committed supporters who have had to endure City’s seemingly endless run of bad luck. We hope you found this game a bit more enjoyable to watch, even if it was freezing and dark!

L (1-4) 12/01/2019 - W6 vs Dereham 4 (A / L) DEREHAM PILE ON THE PRESSURE |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 12/01/2019 VS DEREHAM 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: Dereham pile on the pressure LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham HC RESULT: 4-1 City started the match looking the stronger team, invading Dereham’s D repeatedly and putting their defenders under pressure. A short corner came around 10 minutes after push back with Lucy Wimhurst netting the ball for Norwich taking the team one-nil up. City continued to push but Dereham gradually gained control of the match, moving play down the other end of the pitch and instead putting the City defense under huge pressure. Dereham then maintained a high press which kept the ball in City’s danger area and with their strong attacker breaking through, City unfortunately succumbed to four goals from the home team.

MENS 3RD XI - 12/01/2019 VS LONG SUTTON 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: City keep battling in sandy Lincolnshire LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Long Sutton Leisure Centre RESULT: 4-0 loss REPORT: With call ups for Simon and Jonty Black, Dan Jeffers and Johnny Pyatt, City travelled away to Long Sutton and found a very sandy pitch, the nasty sort which gets everywhere! City were under pressure from the start and centre backs Adam Sayer and Simon Black both took balls hit to their bodies from Long Sutton strikers in the first 5 minutes. A goal came for Sutton from an impressive reverse stick strike from an acute angle, defying the laws of physics. City then started to play the ball around and Johnny Pyatt was causing all kinds of trouble down the right side of the pitch. This resulted in him being taken to the ground a number of times as the opposition tried to keep pace with him, somebody call a medic! Keeper Luke Elwes put in a MOM display to deny Sutton numerous times, and kept the scoreline respectable. Excellent play by Jonty Black in the middle led to some chances on goal for City, and a few short corners sadly were not taken advantage of. Long Sutton managed to sneak another goal after overloading a breakaway. The second half was much the same; City passing well and putting in effort, whilst Sutton would look to counter attack. With City only having a bare 11, and becoming increasingly tired, Sutton did manage to overload the middle at times and did score twice again in the second half. On another day if City had fresh legs to come on the pitch, the score may have been different. Well done to Jonty, Simon, Dan and Johnny for slotting into the 3s so effortlessly. MOM: Luke Elwes - Fantastic saves

MENS 4TH XI - 12/01/2019 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: City hit Dragons for SIX LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: City 6-0 win REPORT: Norwich City Men's 4th XI played the first league game after the Christmas break away at Norwich Dragons 4th XI. City dominated the first half and goals came from Mark Circuit, Nick Hooper and a special effort from Simon Dale, meaning City were three goals to the good at half time. Captain John Ingham delivered a positive talk during the break which had the desired effect as City started the second half at a blistering pace. Straight from the re-start, Adie Land found Circuit advancing into the ‘D’ and he finished coolly after dribbling around a helpless Dragon's keeper. Not even a partial floodlight failure could halt City’s dominance as a flowing move out of City’s defence found Chris Perry with time and space top blast a diagonal pass to the far post leaving Duncan Harris to dive and divert the ball past the keeper to put City's fifth goal in the bottom corner. Man of the Match Harris also put the final goal past Dragon's keeper meaning the game finished with City scoring 6 and keeping a clean sheet. City play an in-form Thetford Town 1st team next week at home.

MENS 6TH XI - 12/01/2019 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 4 (H) TEAM: Mens 6th XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 6th XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: We managed to win a game LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE:Taverham RESULT:won. 3-2 REPORT: We started the second half of the league season with our first league win of the season. With a few fresh faces in the team and Ady Marr asking to play we had a reasonable team , unfortunately Bury could only bring 10 players. This did not seem to make any difference at the start of the game as Bury soon scored their first goal . We then got ourselves organised and started to play some good hockey. Our first goal soon came from a typical Ady Marr run after more pressure Lee Allsop then put us 2-1 up at halftime.. in the second the game was fairly even until Bury had a couple of players sent off for a short time, this lead to us getting a short corner which Simon Deakin scored from. Some sloppy defending right at the end of game allowed Bury this score their second goal . Man of the match was Ady Marr for creating some good moves and allowing us to cause Bury some defensive problems

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 12/01/2019 VS NORWICH DRAGONS A (H) TEAM: Mens Development XI DATE: 12/01/2019 FIXTURE: Mens Development XI VS 12/01/2019 HEADLINE: City lose by a goal in tight game LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: City 1: Dragons 2 REPORT: City started well dominating the early possession with Krishna Patel, Farren Miller and Sam Hancock passing the ball crisply. Dragons were however always dangerous on the break. Dragons took the lead midway through the first half. City managed to equalise shortly before half time through a Marcus O'Sullivan strike from the top of the D following a powerful run. Dragons took the lead straight after half time and could have stretched it if Seb Kimber, in the City goal, had not made some outstanding saves. City now tried to play a longer game with Jamie Granville and Ollie Millett dangerous on the break. Despite having a number of chances City could not force an equaliser.
