W (3-1) 10/12/2016 - W2 vs Norwich City 3 (A / L) THE RETURN LEG |

LADIES 2ND XI - 10/12/2016 VS NORWICH CITY 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: The return leg LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT: Won 3-1 REPORT: An early start beckoned for us on a cold and dreary day as another inter club match against the thirds loomed. Moral was good as this was the last league match before the Christmas break. The match was played with pace from the start with both teams badly wanting the win. With availability being an issue this week we welcomed Danni Garwood back to the fold - we knew she would see the light eventually! Within 10 minutes of the match starting our only kiwi limped off leaving everyone having to play the full match which for some people wasn't the news they quite wanted to hear! (you all know who we are talking about!) Our passing was good and fluid led with numerous goal mouth scrambles which saw valiant defending from the opposition. However it wasn't long before our first goal came - Emily Francis seeing sight of the goal and banged it in 1-0. Our second goal came minutes later which saw Milly brown reacting to a rebound the quickest. Half time came and went and we knew that the thirds would come out fighting. Our third goal saw mollae Scott running the line with her pace and scoring a great "not from there goal". However the thirds were not finished and a misunderstanding between the goal keeper and a full back saw a short corner being awarded which thankfully didn't come to anything! Soon after that the thirds scored which saw Serena Scott initially making a great high looping ball save only to see it spin and go behind her and into the net. We played well and with great team determination, banked three points and earned our well deserved rest!

LADIES 3RD XI - 10/12/2016 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: 3-1 (L) REPORT: NCHC 3s were well and truly up for the return fixture against the NCHC Womens 2s, keen to get a good result and show how well we can play as a team. The game started strong from both sides with early chances for both teams. The 2s were first to find the backboard of the goal when Emily Francis was given space to drive the ball into the D and take a firm shot on target. The 3s kept fighting and tried to apply pressure and not give the 2s too much time on the ball. Unfortunately Milly Brown was able to add to the score-line before half time, putting the City 3s 2-0 down. The second half saw an improved performance from City 3s, and play was end to end, with several short corner opportunities which we were unable to convert. The 2s were working hard to break through the strong 3s defence and eventually Mollae Scott secured a tap-in on the far post putting the 2s 3-0 up. 3s were determined to get something out of the game and after several near misses, Emily Greenway lifted the ball towards the goal, where Keeper Serena Scott got a glove to it, but the ball scuffed over the top of her finger tips where Liv Greenway was waiting to tap the ball into the net behind her. A good performance from both teams, and the final score was 3-1 to NCHC 2s. Player of the match was awarded to Edie Mason who had a fantastic game in goal and made some important saves.

LADIES 4TH XI - 10/12/2016 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: Festive Cheer from the Womens 4's LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:5-1 (win) REPORT: This week we played our last match of the year against Magpies 4's and dominated the game from the start. The first goal came from a short corner and was scored by Heather Tasker neatly slotting in on the post. Heather then scored a second goal shortly after. Two more goals were then scored in the first half, one by Holly Robinson who with great composure scored in a one on one situation between her and the GK which was put into the net and one by Amelia Ellis-Baumber. We finished the first half 4-0. Magpies came out fighting in the second half and were soon to score from a short corner. However, we did not let this change our game and continued to work hard. Amelia scored again after some short passes between her and Holly which enabled her to slot it into the corner of the goal. With not long left we continued to apply pressure on the Magpies defence and passed well around the back. Everyone worked tirelessly and should be congratulated on this excellent result and it is a great end to the first half of the season. Match Report kindly provided by our well deserved POTM Amelia Ellis-Baumber.

L (2-6) 10/12/2016 - W6 vs Norwich City 5 (H / L) NOT TO BE ....... |

LADIES 6TH XI - 10/12/2016 VS NORWICH CITY 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: Not to be ....... LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 6-2 Lost REPORT: This much anticipated top-of-the-table clash with Norwich City 5s saw an evenly matched first half with the ball moving end-to-end. A determined Norwich 6s pressed hard and Sharon Phillips scored an early goal for the team when she netted a right cross into the D. The 6s defence worked as a close and effective unit with POM Carol McNarry thwarting many of the fifth team attacks and powerfully outletting the ball to allow Norwich 6s to push forward repeatedly. However, the skilful attack unit in the 5s netted the ball soon after to even the score sheet. Norwich 6s went ahead again 20 minutes into the match, when Fran Cooke scored from the centre of the D. However, this was soon matched again by the 5s - taking the score to two-all as the teams went into half time. After the break the Norwich 5s pressed much harder and tougher and seemed to find the scoring prowess that has seen them dominate the division’s goal-count all season. The 5s scored four more in the second half as fatigue kicked-in for the 6s who had given the game their all. The team’s toughest game of the season so far. Final score 2-6 POM Carole McNarry

W (2-1) 10/12/2016 - LD vs Yarmouth (A / L) THE WINNING RUN CONTINUES... |
---|
LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 10/12/2016 VS YARMOUTH (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: The winning run continues... LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Great Yarmouth RESULT: 1 : 2 REPORT: After a week struggling to muster a team, we were fortunate to have Freya; Evie-Mae; and Niahm join the team fresh from the U12s, Freya even managing to cajole her mum, Vicky, to play as the adult defender. Predictably, the first quarter saw the team finding their feet against a larger and more physical Great Yarmouth side. Although easily able to soak up any Great Yarmouth pressure, with Lottie; Vicky and Sabina being strong at the back, there was a lack of fluidity from the Norwich midfield meaning the game was concentrated in the centre of the park and progress was limited. The second quarter saw a significant improvement across the field. Players found themselves in space and attacking opportunities began to be created. Francis; Lucy; Freya; and Maggie communicated well to create a solid midfield presence that dominated possession and enabled some strong, fast attacks on both flanks, particularly from Loulou. One such move led to Lottie’s hard shot, with Evie-Mae deftly tucking in the rebound. Almost from the re-start, Niahm picked up the ball and had a mazy run before finishing with a fabulous reverse strike. A fitting end to a quarter dominated by Norwich. The second half was more evenly balanced, Great Yarmouth relying on two very experienced players at the back to protect their goal. Nonetheless, Norwich retained their shape well and continued to look to move the ball wide before cutting it back to create numerous opportunities. Lottie and Sabina continued to pass strongly with the attacking line showing some excellent possession and movement, ably supported by Lucy; Freya; and the ever-running Frances. Given that there could have been a good number of additional goals for Norwich in the half, particularly from Niahm’s strong runs, it was very frustrating that with their only real shot on target, Great Yarmouth managed to squeeze the ball over the line in the last minute of the game. Overall a very solid performance from all the girls. Given they had never played together, with some of the younger girls having never played on a full-size pitch, it was a fantastic win. Lottie deservedly picked up the player of the game with special thanks to Vicky for playing well and in the spirit of her role as adult player. Now to keep this run going!

W (4-3) 10/12/2016 - M1 vs Waltham Forest (A / L) CITY DIG DEEP TO COME FROM BEHIND YET AGAIN |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 10/12/2016 VS WALTHAM FOREST (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: City dig deep to come from behind yet again LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION B VENUE: WALTHAMSTOW ACADEMY RESULT: 3-4 REPORT: The Waltham Forest v Norwich City match was the only game in Prem B to be played on the 10th of December, so Norwich were keen to secure the three points that would see them occupy the top spot over Christmas (although CoP 2s would have a game in hand). Norwich City 1s welcomed Rob Duffy and Dan Cheesman into the side for their first appearances of the season. Norwich started slowly and on the back foot, as within the first two minutes they found themselves a goal down when Waltham broke through the City left and won a short corner. A simple but neat routine, with a slip left and then a ball across goal to deflect at the far post put Waltham 1-0 up. City began to gradually ease their way into the match from this point and drew level after Chris Wardale converted a short corner of their own with a drag flick to the top right hand corner. Waltham went ahead again when they found a forward unmarked in the D and the ball was eventually scrambled home. The score at half time was 2-1 to Waltham Forset. Norwich knew they needed to raise their level if they were to get anything out of the game and started the second half with a higher intensity. With new instructions, Sam Tomlinson kept their deep lying playmaker quite in the second half, and as a result Norwich were able to impose themselves on the game more and more. It wasn’t too long before Norwich drew level again when Jeremy Elliott played Nick Jones in on the left. With time on the ball, he hit the ball through the keeper, who was perhaps expecting the shot to be directed towards the corner. It was then City’s time to take the lead for the first time in the match when Norwich countered off some Waltham pressure. Jeremy Elliott received the ball on the right of his own 23 and fired a cross field pass to Dan Cheesman who was stood on the left wing on the opposition 23. Dan then proceeded to cut inside, beating two or three defenders as he made his way towards the D, and as he was pulling the trigger after rounding the keeper was fouled by a recovering defender to win a penalty stroke and also earn his team a man advantage for the next 5 mins. Chris Wardale converted the penalty stroke to the top left corner to make the score 3-2 to City. Norwich knew they had to try to see the result out, but in realising as much seemed to invite Waltham onto them a little too easily and within the next 5 or 10 minutes they were back in the game when they converted a short corner to draw back level. City remained determined however, and eventually further pressure paid off when another short corner was converted when Jeremy Elliott powered a strike through, not one, but two defenders sticks as neither could get enough on the ball to keep it out of the goal. This time Norwich did manage to shut up the shop, and the score finished 4-3 to City. It is often said that the mark of successful teams is to win matches even when the team have not played their best, and this was definitely one of those occasions. City now sit at the top of the league for Christmas.

L (0-1) 10/12/2016 - M2 vs Bishops Stortford (H / L) XMAS PARTY HANGOVERS LEAVE CITY FRUSTRATED |

MENS 2ND XI - 10/12/2016 VS BISHOPS STORTFORD (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: Xmas party hangovers leave city frustrated LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: TRF RESULT 1-0 Loss Report: City welcomed Bishop Stortford to the Taverham H2O. Going into the game City knew that 3 points was there for the taking. City started slowly, with the early attacks from Bishop Stortford causing City problems and leading to short corners. However, City's defence held strong. Nearing the end of the half, City started to play their usual free flowing hockey, which was rewarded with a few short corners. The short corners brought out some fine saves from the Bishop Stortford keeper. Notably, Tom Hindle's reverse stick rocket ,which brought a great save from the Bishop Stortford keeper. Also late in the first half, Luke Corden was put through after a brilliant aerial from Tom Cox. His improvised chip was agonisingly close, but grazed the side netting. Half time 0-0. City started the second half well. Bishop Stortford gave City very little to worry about in the early stages of the second half. City made the most of this and won more short corners. However, City lacked the finishing touches and failed to get the goal that would have put them in front. This came back to haunt City, as the half went on Bishop Stortford seemed to pick up the pace, winning short corners of their own. It was from a fluffed Bishop Stortford corner that City painfully conceded the first goal of the game. From this point on the game was end to end with both sides coming very close to scoring. Late short corners for City just wouldn't find the target. The game finished 1-0. This loss will be a hard one to take, as the opposition were there for the taking. City will need to start converting good hockey and chances into goals when they return in the new year, if they want to start climbing the league table. MOTM-Sam Bingham TYFC- Luke Corden Have a good Christmas everyone.

MENS 6TH XI - 10/12/2016 VS NORFOLK NOMADS 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 6th XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 6th XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: Youth does help! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-2 Draw REPORT: City this week were joined by both youngsters Christian Hughes and Tom Ling, the latter who gave the 6s the lead after a good pass from Deakin! A good solo run from Nomads youngest player however led to there equaliser. The game was very even and it took a Simon Deakin clinical finish to regain the lead, but once again Nomads equalised as it finished all square, probably in the end a fair result.
