WOMENS 3RD XI - 09/11/2024 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 09/11/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 09/11/2024 HEADLINE: Vs Dragons LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 3-0 win REPORT: Norwich came out ready with a great start to the first half, scoring an early goal thanks to Thalia to boost our confidence for the rest of the game. We then dominated the match with our strong defence and interceptions enabling us to find the space in the middle and on the width of the pitch, travelling up to the forwards who put great pressure onto the keeper. Soon after, Helen went for goal number 2 as she put in a solid tackle near our 23 and continued to drive up the whole pitch eliminating all there players in the process as she reached the D to slot the ball straight into the left corner. Following this the team had great flow with quick passes and some impressive dribbles leading to achieving multiple attacking short corners that were narrowly missed. However, shortly after a brilliant ball from the defence we were able to drive up the right to slip the ball into Thalia who fired the ball straight into the goal making the score 3-0, overall a great start for city. Going into the second half, Dragon’s came out strong, putting lots of pressure on the defence which was smoothly handled and cleared by the defence and Jo performed some amazing saves. We faced a few defensive short corners which were dealt with amazingly, enabling us to remain having not conceded. Although we still dominated possession with many close chances we were unable to score any more goals due to there tighter defence but our attitude and play remained positive and composed as multiple players showed off there commitment and ability within the team. Well played everyone!

U18G - 10/11/2024 VS BEDFORD U18G (A) TEAM: U18G DATE: 10/11/2024 FIXTURE: U18G VS 10/11/2024 HEADLINE: Away vs Bedford LEAGUE: England Hockey Tier 2 Plate VENUE: Bedford Hockey Club RESULT: Lost 0-3 REPORT: We travelled the long journey to Bedford with a squad of 15, a mix of age groups in there but all strong players. We have been joined in the U18G by a few Dereham players as they don’t enter this competition and likewise some of our U14s have played for them as we don’t enter. Captains Niamh and Abby led the warm up and the girls were switched on from the moment the game started. A fast paced and skilful game, both teams attacked hard and defended well. Our GK Sophie (only 13!) made numerous amazing saves and at the other end Grace has several shots go just past the post. Tilly worked the ball well down the right wing, crossing it in and creating chances but Bedford’s GK made a lot of good saves. Chloe eliminated players and passed well, also creating chances for shots. Sophie beat players down the left wing to get shots away and make some great crosses. Alice Br made some great runs down both wings and got the ball into the D for chances to shoot. Carla tackled well and moved the ball on early in the midfield and Lola worked well down the right side of the pitch, making great passes and picking up balls and driving into the D. Abi K’s tireless running and encouragement was a real asset wherever she was on the pitch, never giving up. Around the back we had such a fantastic level of defenders, with Niamh who wins tackles when we can’t see how she can; Abby who is so low and strong (though it’s not that far to get down right haha) came away with the ball many times and distributed well. Sophia moved the ball brilliantly down the sidelines, stepping in and intercepting if it came back ever. Millie B showed her super speed and great tackling across all the positions at the back. Alice Ba read the game well, tackled and won the ball and moved it on well down the wings. Evie had a fantastic game playing in the midfield, controlling and tackling well, with great distribution. I am so proud of this group of players, with such a huge array of skill and technical ability as well as some great tactical players I feel very lucky to have coached them and I am excited for the next few seasons with them. Many of the squad today are only Year 10 or 11 and Soph in goal, just year 9. The team were unlucky not to score today and they should come away feeling that they played some great hockey, created chances, worked hard and hopefully enjoyed it too. Well done everyone and congratulations to Sophie E player of the match!
