WOMENS 3RD XI - 08/12/2018 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 08/12/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 08/12/2018 HEADLINE: Pre-Christmas win LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 3-1 (win) REPORT: The Saturday before the long Christmas break for NCHC saw the eagerly awaited crunch fixture between their women’s 3s and 4s. The first half was goalless until the final minute when 3s player of the match Niamh Campbell stole possession at the top of the 25 and drove to the baseline, before pulling the ball back for Olivia Greenway to open the scoring. With an inspiring half-time team talk from coach Nick Hooper and captain Kim Lusher, the 3s started the second half more assuredly. A momentary lapse in concentration saw the 4s win a penalty flick, from which Abi Flatt equalised. But this spurred the 3s into playing the ball more quickly and, from a free hit inside their own half, Tilly Butterworth powered forward and slipped the ball to Olivia, who ghosted past the last defender and crossed to goal-scorer Holly Robinson for the 3s to retake the lead. With the 3s then pressing high, Jenny Stangham created a number of goal chances, which unfortunately weren’t converted. But, as the match came to a close, Kate Houldey and Tilly worked the ball cleverly together to free up Niamh in the D and her reverse shot, which was sailing wide, was expertly deflected into the goal by Holly to round off a nervy but important 11th straight win for the 3s. Well done to both teams for a hard-fought close game before the well-earned Christmas break.

WOMENS 4TH XI - 08/12/2018 VS NORWICH CITY 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 08/12/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 08/12/2018 HEADLINE: Glad this ones over! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT:NCHC 3s 3 - NCHC 4s 1 REPORT:A pleasant early December morning and the eagerly awaited (?) inter club fixture between NC Womens 3s v NC Womens 4s was an even and competitive affair. The first 10 minutes City 3s had some good passages of play and it was they who took 1st blood, literally when Karen Hobden was dispatched to the side line after an accidental stick to the head. The original 15 squad, was now down to 13 due to a late sickness call off, but undeterred and with a re-gig of the already new formation, 4s put in a beefy and strong performance, which saw a very even 1st half. Flo Duffield, growing in confidence week on week, teamed up well with Gillian Allen and Bev Cushion to form a strong defence, along with Mia Edmond, who thwarted the speedy 3s, time after time with an outstanding performance recognised by both squads in the POTM votes after the game. With the clock counting down to the half time whistle, 3s opened the scoring through a strong Niamh Campbell drive who found Olivia Greenway who slotted home for 3s to lead 1.0 at half time. Manager Simeon Tomlinson gave some half time masterful words of encouragement and direction and 4s resumed the 2nd half much as the first, with a never give up attitude and determination to make the 3s work hard and hopeful to win at least a point. Early in the half a 3s defender was deemed to have the last foot on the line and after some umpire discussion the flick was awarded to 4s. A cool headed Abi Flatt slotted the ball home to level up the score which held for most of the remainder of the half. However, it was some nice link up play through the middle which gave 3s space to run and unusually catch 4s defence napping and giving no chance for Grace Thrower, who had a great game in the 4s goal, with a characteristic Holly Robinson finish. 4s continued to press, Caroline Illing lead by example with her endless running, and encouragement, Emily Leeming picking up the ball and running with text book right wing style supported by Gabby Sharp, Fran Cooke and captain Hannah Sangar whose injury continues to improve, with Frances Underhill putting in a great work rate and adapting to different positions with a willingness to learn. Late in the game with seconds on the clock in a repeat of the 1st half it was 3s who continued to press and win a further goal through Holly Robinson. Whilst the results for the womens 4s continue to be negative, the team continues to learn, grow and develop – 2019 will see some positive results for sure and take us away from that relegation drop zone. Onwards and upwards – Bring it On! POTM – Mia Edmond

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Cliff Park High School RESULT: Win City 8-0 Yarmouth After a tough few weeks, City 5’s travelled to Yarmouth hoping for a win before the Xmas break. City started well, moving the ball around the pitch and piling pressure on the Yarmouth defence, it wasn’t long before Sharon Phillips put City ahead 1-0. Yarmouth struggled to get out of their own half but did have a few break away chances, luckily the City defence were there to sweep these away. The rest of the first half saw City continue to control the game with 2 further goals from Emily Williams and Lucy McNarry and winning a flick, taken brilliantly by Molly Crabtree to go in at half time with a 4-0 lead. The second half saw a determined 5’s continue to dominate the game, 4 more goals and only 1 Yarmouth chance at goal which was somehow kept out by a combined effort of GK Clair Richardson, Alli McLellan and Emma Guyton. Well done to the goal scorers Sharon(1), Lucy (3), Charlotte (1), Molly (2) and Emily (1). Bring on the 2nd half of the season!!! Player of the match Allison McLellan

MENS 2ND XI - 08/12/2018 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 08/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 08/12/2018 HEADLINE: City cant find that winning formula LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Cambridge RESULT: 4 - 2 Loss REPORT: Norwich City 2nd XI were hoping for a different result to last weekend’s as they again traveled to Cambridge for a midday fixture, this time to face Cambridge City 3rd XI. With the two sides starting the day at bottom and second-bottom of the table respectively, both would have been looking to go into the Christmas break on a high note. Norwich City started the game better than they had in the previous week, but were again the first side to concede. Both sides continued to take a cautious approach in the early stages of the game and midway through the first half Norwich equalised with a well-worked goal. Richard Silvester picked the ball up around the opposition’s 25m line and drove to the by-line before deliberately squaring the ball to Rob Cooke, who converted - Jeremy Elliot offering a good decoy run to create space behind. The midfield and forward line linked to well to open up the Cambridge defence, with Jeremy Elliot and Rich Green creating good chances. However, it was Cambridge who went into the break ahead. Norwich failed to clear the ball from a seemingly innocuous position and Cambridge capitalised, scoring off of the rebound of a Ben Millet save. Norwich conceded again just minutes into the second half, this time from a short corner. After having a fair share of possession and opportunities in Cambridge’s half, Norwich conceded once more, this time the Cambridge forwards combining well on the break. Norwich continued to press high and enjoyed the better of the territory in the second half, with the pressure leading to several short corner chances. Chris Perry bounced back from a heavy knock in the first half to convert one of the shorts from the top of the D, making the score 4-2 to Cambridge. Norwich continued to commit to defence and attack as a team up to the final whistle, and were perhaps unfortunate not to score a third goal. Cambridge ended the game as deserved winners as Norwich were once again left frustrated by their costly number of errors and squandered chances. Norwich pick up their sticks again on the 5th of January for an away fixture against Gresham’s School starting at 1pm.

L (1-2) 08/12/2018 - M3 vs CoP 3 (H / L) A NEW YEAR RESOLUTION NEEDED... |

MENS 3RD XI - 08/12/2018 VS COP 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 08/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 08/12/2018 HEADLINE: A New Year Resolution needed... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 Loss REPORT: Having played all the teams in their league, City faced their first opponent of the season, Peterborough 3s, hoping to improve on their 3-1 loss from before. The 3s line up was once again different from the week before (well, what did you expect?), but City didn't let this affect their play as they scored within the first 5 minutes! A lovely ball from Lloyd Sayer found Tom Cox, who passed the ball to Rees Leonard, who added to his tally this season (not nearly as much as last season!). City played very well and Peterborough struggled to get their attacks going. Elliott Fox and Sam Clabon found themselves in lots of space on the wings and fed the ball through to the forwards. A couple of short corners sadly failed to hit the mark ( a pattern this season), and Peterborough started to pile on the pressure, winning a few short corners of their own. Fortunately these were either saved by keeper Luke Ewles or cleared by the defence, led by Adam Sayer and Sam Southgate (last game this season!) Half time and 1-0 to City. Now a gambling man would look at the few previous week's results and would bet that having the lead at half time, City would surely throw away the game and lose it in the second half as they have done on more than one occasion this season ( 4 in fact!). The second half started and City faced up to Peterborough who were determined to get an equaliser. Midway through the half, their chance came. A hit ball from a long corner at the side of the pitch, found it's way straight into the City D and onto the stick of the Peterborough, who deflected the ball behind himself into the corner of the goal. City attacked back and pushed high, but a Peterborough counterattack saw the defence stretched and that pesky forward managed to score an almost identical goal but deftly deflecting the ball in the goal. Despite going from leading to losing in the space of 5 minutes, City kept up the pressure. Peterborough resorted to time wasting tactics and focused on holding the ball up. City could sense time was running out, but they just couldn't break down the Peterborough defence who crowded the D. Once again a loss for the 3s, who made Peterborough work hard for their win. All City players worked hard in the game and kept positive throughout. A New Year Resolution is needed for the next half of the season: Do better in the second half! MOM: Tom Cox DOD: Dan Cheesman

W (4-1) 08/12/2018 - M4 vs Bury St Edmunds 3 (H / L) JUST LIKE OLD BRINE |

MENS 4TH XI - 08/12/2018 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 08/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 08/12/2018 HEADLINE: Just like old Brine LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Won 4-1 REPORT: Matthew Brine rolled back the years, scoring all four goals against Bury St Edmunds 3's The scoreline didn't quite do Bury justice, however, as they brought a much more experienced side to Norfolk and caused City some problems. After a decent early period, it was Bury who took the lead from a short corner when Captain Ingham was unable to put the striker under enough pressure and with time and space at the top of the 'D', his precision pass allowed Matthew Pears to score easily from close range. After that early setback, City gradually turned on the style. The midfield of Jewers, Black and Tomkinson turned the tide in City's favour and when the lethal combination of Land & Brine were given the ball, they proved too hot to handle. Firstly, Land was put free down the left and he, in turn, found Brine in the 'D', who eased the ball to his right and slotted low into the right-hand corner. City's second was very similar, Land to Brine in the 'D', but this time a venomous strike into the bottom gave the Bury GK no chance. City 2-1 at halftime More the same followed in the second half, with Bury starting well and Nkruma holding firm in City's goal. Even when a couple of uncharacteristic errors from Saran in defence set Bury strikers on goal, Nkruma was alert to the danger and snuffed out both chances City put the game to bed with Brine's hattrick goal, close in on goal after good work from Jeffers. The icing on Brine's cake came late on when Bury were caught napping in defence, a quick ball out from the back from Hooper found Land with the freedom of the half, who in turn drew the keeper and slipped the ball to Brine who coolly slotted into an empty net 4-1 to City MOTM: Matthew Brine
