City were under the gosh in the first 20 minuets when Keeper Gina Hunt made some great saves before City started too create some chances of their own. City took the lead towards the end of the half from a Hannah Phillips PC goal. In the 2nd half City kept on battling and things were made difficult with cards for both F Williams and H Johnson but city stayed calm and managed to score a 2nd with a great move down the right finished well on the volley by Olivia Williams. City did however concede late on but managed to hold on for their first win in PREM division, the first ever for the club. A great achievement by all!

D (2-2) 08/10/2016 - W2 vs Broadland 1 (H / L) LAST MINUTE GOAL CRUEL ON CITY! |

LADIES 2ND XI - 08/10/2016 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Last minute goal cruel on City! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham High School RESULT: 2-2 DRAW REPORT: In this already top of the table clash it was the 2s who were left rueing their missed chances as penalty corner equaliser in the final seconds of the game gave Broadland an underserved point. The game started a great pace with chances at both ends, City took the lead however with a great strike from Leigh Ann-Worral from a penalty corner, however City couldn't keep hold of their lead for long as Broadland equalised with a good team move, the game remained a high pace as it finished 1-1 at the break. After the interval the game remained fast paced as City created many chances with both Kate Hartland and Emily Francis coming very close to scoring City's deserved 2nd, City did however score the 2nd goal when Broadlands keeper made a double save to keep out Hartland the ball feel perfectly to Ellie Brine to tap home. City continued to create and miss chances as the third killer goal evaded them, and in the final minute after the final whistle and as Broadland pushed everyone forward for their penalty corner, a shot from the top of the D deflected around off a number of sticks before being tapped home at the far post. FT: 2-2 a Very Hard result for City to take.

L (1-2) 08/10/2016 - W3 vs UEA 2 (A / L) |

LADIES 3RD XI - 08/10/2016 VS UEA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-1 (L) REPORT: In a game that felt full of opportunities, Norwich City 3s were disappointed not to come away with a win. City’s pressure started from the off and it seemed like we were going to have the upper hand. Unfortunately the first goal was to come from UEA, with a player allowed to drive through the middle and put their shot away. City picked themselves up from this and there was a period where it seemed like surely City would have to get a goal, but nothing seemed to go our way. Shots went just wide, deflections were just missed, and the UEA GK seemed to be managing to save everything else. City continued to pile on the pressure, resulting in a string of short corners, but these were fended off by the UEA defence. Finally, however, after a bit of ping-pong in the D, Mollae Scott mopped up a deflection and got it past the UEA keeper and into the goal. With the score 1-1 at half time it was still feeling like a winnable fixture, and the second half began in a similar vein to the first. Again UEA continued to defend effectively, with their goalie pulling off save after save. Unfortunately, after some good teamwork in defence for much of the game, UEA got their second goal from a strong short corner strike, putting city 2-1 down. With a short corner awarded to city in the last 2 minutes, it seemed like a draw might be possible, but it wasn’t to be and city were left with the frustration of having had a lot of the play and possession but nothing to show for it. POTM was Mollae Scott, who showed great persistence and commitment, with special mention to Grace Kidner who was a close second in the votes.

D (2-2) 08/10/2016 - W4 vs Dereham 3 (A / L) SO CLOSE ..... |

LADIES 4TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: So close ..... LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 2-2 (Draw) REPORT: Norwich Womens 4's travelled to Dereham with 12 girls raring to go, and another three en route from a school fixture. From first push back, City dominated possession and moved the ball around the field with some lovely passages of play. City played their own game throughout, working as a team and not giving away many opportunities. But when they did get one, Dereham took the chance to convert a quick fired shot before half time. A good team talk got City fired up, with great contributions from Coach and Player's alike. Holly Robinson then opened the scoring for City with a good ball in levelling the score line. Jess Doncaster then found the back of the net with an amazing slip shot executed from a well rehearsed short corner routine from Sue Tomlinson but alas this was deemed too high and not allowed. Rachael Phillips, who skilfully out played the opposition then placed the ball in the net with an amazing solo effort increased the score line further for City. With five minutes left to play, Norwich continued to defend tightly and as a pack, but Dereham snuck in a late lucky goal, which tied the match 2-2. Norwich were disappointed not to gain three points, but an all-round strong team performance puts them in good stead for their next encounter. Match Report kindly prepared by Kim Lusher, POTM.

A breakaway from Breckland lead to a goal against play. In the second half Sophia Bassett scored an amazing reverse stick sweep goal, and Amelia Barclay scored another 2 goals. This keeps the Norwich City 5th team as top of the league . Amelia Barclay was awarded players player of the match - well deserved. Bring on next week North Norfolk at 11.30. W (3-2) 08/10/2016 - W6 vs North Norfolk 2 (H / L) ANOTHER WIN! |

LADIES 6TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Another win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-2 (Win) REPORT: The home team were prepared for a tough game and came out fighting and organised from the push back whistle. The teamwork paid off and they made repeated forays into the North Norfolk defensive D. Fifteen minutes into play Lucy McNarry opened the scoring for Norwich when she expertly netted a pass from midfielder Jane Loughridge into the far right corner of the goal. North Norfolk continued to press but were kept at bay by Norwich’s hard working D-unit as well as some crucial saves by goalkeeper Charlotte Harrad. Towards the end of the first half, Norwich scored a second goal. This time from a short corner as Sharon Phillips passed the ball to Fran Cooke who calmly slotted it past the keeper. After the break North Norfolk upped their game, and the play was tougher for Norwich. The home team still made several breaks through and eventually Liz Hollis deflected a powerful shot from Josine Van Den Berg to take Norwich City a comfortable three nil ahead. With the clock ticking down, North Norfolk worked yet harder and began to hold the play in Norwich’s defensive 25. They scored two goals within the space of a few minutes of each other and the lead began to appear less certain as the visitors looked likely to score again. Norwich fended off the threat for the rest of the game, however, to leave the final score three goals to Norwich 6s and two goals to North Norfolk 2s. LADIES 7TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS BROADLAND 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Third times a charm for City 7s LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Langley School Carrow 2 v City Womens 7s RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: The Womens 7s won their third game in a row to move third from bottom of the table with a 1-0 win over Carrow 2. City had the majority of possession but struggled to capitalise despite strong running from Charlotte Girling and Amy Hinchliffe. The passing wasn't quite as crisp as the previous game but City still moved the ball well and limited Carrow to only an occasional foray up the pitch. One such move required a fantastic reverse stick clearance from Jan Kennard. City continued to press in the second half but Carrow upped their game and had several short corner opportunities, all of which were rebuffed. City then regained the upper hand and got a deserved winner when Katy Walker was on target. From that moment on City kept the pressure on and dominted possession. As in previous weeks the vote for Player of the Match was split several ways but the winner was Katy Walker for a strong all round performance and the crucial goal.

W (4-0) 08/10/2016 - LD vs Yarmouth (H / L) |

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 08/10/2016 VS YARMOUTH (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: NORWICH CITY 4 YARMOUTH 0 REPORT: Norwich started strongly with Yarmouth rarely invading the home D or threatening keeper Daisy Ford . The hard work and neat passing soon paid off when Norwich’s right forward Frances Byrne opened the scoring in the first quarter when she calmly slotted the ball past Yarmouth’s keeper. The Norwich girls continued to dominate in the second quarter and Frances Byrne scored again for the home team. A few minutes later Norwich scored a third goal when Abigail Flatt converted a short corner. After the half-time break Abigail scored again, netting a powerful slap hit sent into the D from the right by Lucy Jenkinson. Freya Myhill, Imi Shaw and Millie Wimhurst made some attacks down the left in this quarter but the Yarmouth defenders stopped them from finding the net. In the fourth quarter Norwich continued to play some great hockey, switching the ball back and round through pivot players Kate Houldey and adult helper Fongy and attacking down the right baseline by Lucy Jenkinson and Abigail Hill. However, a plucky and enthusiast Yarmouth team, still finding their feet with lots of young and brand-new-to-hockey players, worked hard to keep the home team from increasing their score past four goals. Player of the match: Kate Houldey

W (3-1) 08/10/2016 - M1 vs Havering (A / L) CITY PATIENCE AND DISCIPLINE WINS THE DAY |

MENS 1ST XI - 08/10/2016 VS HAVERING (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: City patience and discipline wins the day LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION B VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: The game started very evenly, with Havering playing a fairly conservative style of hockey, and while they didn’t give too much away, neither did they create much themselves, with only a couple of short corners. The most memorable moment of the first half coming when a sniper appeared to pick off Ed Sutton as he knocked the ball past the last man, leaving him sprawled across the floor. A rather drab first half saw the teams go into the break at 0-0. City began to impose themselves on the game more and more as it progressed into the second half, playing clever hockey, leaving Havering to get on with all the complaining to the umpires riling themselves up. Chances eventually started come as spaces opened up. The first of which Gabriel Marchant found a bit of space in the D when turning onto his backhand, only to be denied by the underside of the cross bar. City kept their patience, realising that this was never going to be a game in which there would be a lot of chances. Eventually an inspired substitution provided the breakthrough. Just moments after coming on Tom Cox managed to get himself on the scoresheet twice within the space of two minutes. The first came after smart work from Chris Wardale who was in a tight spot in the centre of the D. He seemingly managed to get through a gap that did not exist, and when confronted by the onrushing keeper, calmly slipped the ball to his left where Tom Cox could apply a simple finish into the open goal. The second goal came from what was the best move of the game. With two and three touch hockey, the ball was worked down the left channel to Chris Wardale who dropped the ball off to the supporting midfield, who then found Tom Cox, who had somehow managed to find himself in acres on the top of the D. Again the keeper rushed out, but as he slid out at the ball Tom Cox, on full stretch, hit his backhand with just enough lift to see the ball fly into the net for 0-2. The third came when Chris Wardale this time had managed to find some space in the D, turned away from the defenders and onto his backhand. This also gave him space to aim for at the near post with the keeper again off his line, and with a clean strike the sweet sound of the ball hitting the backboard was heard. This passage of play was clearly not what Havering had in mind and their players began to lose their minds with their team decending into anarchy. City kept their composure well during these events and did well, on the whole, not to react to all the furore that Havering were stirring up and kept trying to play their hockey. This caused the game to peter out somewhat with Havering managing a consolation goal within the final few minutes.

City found themselves a goal down to a first half flick; Peterborough with their direct physical style pushed for a second. City's defence and goalkeeper held firm; there classical passing and movement started to bare fruit. A Ben Plum shot (going wide) deflected into the roof of the net by Dan Cheesman. Minutes later an Adie Land short (not going wide) touched in by A sprawling Dan. Game over!

MENS 5TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Tough draw LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: home RESULT: 1-1 draw REPORT: This was a tough encounter against one of the favourites for the league. City got off to a great start with much of the early pressure. There were early chances for Ady Marr and Ash Bird but the Dragons keeper kept them out. After numerous chances were spurned, Dragons went against the run of play to score at the other end. A slightly dejected City team came out after the break and toiled in the midday sun. Geoff Sencer and Adam Richardson went close from short corners before Shaun Ferris was bundled over in the D. The ensuing short corner led to a shot from Ali Clabburn before fox-in-the-box, Ash Bird smashed home the equaliser. The goal did come against the run of play but no more than the hard working City team deserved. A 1-1 draw was a fair result in a very even match. Maggpies away next up!

D (2-2) 08/10/2016 - M6 vs Norfolk Nomads 1 (H / L) AT LEAST WE DIDN'T LOSE |

MENS 6TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS NORFOLK NOMADS 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 6th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 6th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: At least we didn't lose LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: Home RESULT: 2-2 Draw REPORT: City took the lead when Cushion prodded home while a bundle ensued following a cross by White. Unfortunately, Nomads drew level when the keeper was beaten by his own team's deflection (sorry Andy F) and then went behind when a simple long corner left a player unmarked and the keeper unseen when perhaps we should have done better. Good news was that City in the second half managed to string a great move together (perhaps their best ever?) including five great passes which finished with Woodie getting a pass on the edge of the D from Deakin and firing home. Somehow Andrews got POTM when the scribe thought it should go somewhere else for his two moments that resulted in the goals!

MENS 7TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS DEREHAM 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Can do better LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: DEREHAM RESULT: DEREHAM 4 2 NORWICH CITY 7 1 REPORT: City 7's were able to add a couple of players to their squad late on Saturday morning and welcomed James Hewett, James Dorling and Jack Watling into the squad along with a season debut for Joby Castlo-Hall. City started well applying the early pressure, but were undone by Dereham's first real attack when they were undone by the pace of the Dereham Centre Forward who ran through to score. City regrouped, tightening up their defence and then began to make inroads into the Dereham defence through the work of Lee Allsop, Luke Keeley, Gautham Narayanan, Michael Milne-Brown and Christian Hughes. The City equaliser followed good work down the City right, Luke Keeleys cross being converted at the far post by Colin Brown. Chances came and went, but City were unable to add to their score before the break. The second half was a different affair as City found it difficult to string passes together, whilst Dereham were more dominant. James Dorling and man of the match Jack Watling were kept busy dealing with the Dereham attacks. Dan Jeffers in only his second hockey match defended well and overlapped well from right half to support the City attack. Dereham won the match when they scored their second from a short corner variation. Ali Wardale

L (1-2) 08/10/2016 - MD vs Norwich Dragons A (H / L) STAND IN (OR DO I MEAN STAND OUT) KEEPER RUSHTON NEARLY DAMPENS DRAGONS FIRE |

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 08/10/2016 VS NORWICH DRAGONS A (H) TEAM: Mens Development XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Mens Development XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Stand in (or do I mean stand out) keeper Rushton nearly dampens Dragons fire LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-2 REPORT: Whilst City lost, their manager was delighted with the effort and endeavour his young team showed against a strong Dragons team. In what was always likely to be a hard fought affair Dragons took the early advantage thanks to some neat and decisive play down the right. City's cause was not helped when Cameron Tasker was injured in the first quarter quickly followed by a recurrence of Kurtis Reynolds' ankle injury forced him to retire in the second quarter which stretched the home team's resources to the limit given a number had come straight from playing rugby (dangerous game) against each other!!! Anyway, I digress, back to the hockey......whilst City took time to settle they were indebted to the keeping of Ethan Rushton and the energy and skill provided by Jonty Black and Freddie Paterson. Dragons took the lead through a somewhat scruffy goal when City blocked numerous shots but failed to clear their lines. Undeterred, an incisive sideline pass from Black found Paterson whose 3-D skills beat the first defender, drove into the D and smashed the ball into the bottom corner, 1-1. With several players playing in unfamiliar positions Sam Hyatt at central midfield and Joseph Roy showed a calmness and maturity beyond their years. The third quarter was end to end with City saved by some excellent Rushton goal keeping and some extravagant and somewhat off target drag flicks by Dragons. Whilst City were on the back foot they still looked dangerous on the break with Robert McCall and Alex Tomkinson chasing down anything that moved near them! With five minutes to go Dragons took the lead when the unlucky Cameron Husband deflected a penalty corner into his own goal. City pressed for the equaliser but just couldn't quite find a way through some often stout Dragon's defending. Huge thanks to the boys who must be shattered having played school sport in the morning/ early afternoon. Training tips for Tuesday... Work on ball retention - if we have it they haven't!!!!
