LADIES 1ST XI - 08/10/2017 VS WISBECH TOWN 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 08/10/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 08/10/2017 HEADLINE: Double Weekend Win for City 1s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: WISBECH RESULT: 4-0 (W) REPORT: An early Sunday morning saw Norwich City Womens 1s travelling to Wisbech for their first cup match of the season. After playing Wisbech already the day before with a strong 3-1 win, City were ready for round 2. Norwich started the first half with enthusiasm and commitment. Strong defensive work from Danni Garwood and Fong Chung kept Wisbech away from our goal and left Summer Haylock with a quiet game so far. Despite the effortless passing between Georgia Cleveland and Ella Gill through the middle of the pitch, the first half ended 0-0. A great half time pep talk from coach Matthew Brine aka Pies got City 1s pumped and determined to get the win they deserved. Abbie Ingham worked tirelessly, managing to win City their first short corner of the half. After a strong strike from Krystal Bishop, Ellie Brine managed to get on the rebound with a reverse sweep into the goal. City were 1-0 up and hungry for more with Emily Francis making vital runs upfront to create many more chances for City. Important communication from Summer Haylock allowed Dani Sizer and Emily Rash to continue to hassle Wisbech's forwards, helping to keep City's clean sheet. The team worked hard, despite everyone's tired legs from the day before, to win Norwich another short corner. With a clean slap from Olivia Williams, Ellie Brine got a cheeky deflection into the net. City's shorts were on fire and with yet another won, the score became 3-0 with a well worked routine, Ella Gill with the final touch hitting the backboard. Great pace and interceptions from Emily Rash helped City finish the half strongly, distributing the ball all the way from the back, to finally find Ellie on the P spot to put a reverse flick into the top of the net. A final well won short corner for Wisbech saw the last 10 seconds of the game but with great teamwork from Norwich's defence and keeper, they had no problem keeping the ball out of the net. Another great win for City, and on to the next round of the Cup.

LADIES 1ST XI - 07/10/2017 VS WISBECH TOWN 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 07/10/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 07/10/2017 HEADLINE: Norwich City Womens 1s are League Leaders after unbeaten start to the season continues. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF, NORWICH CITY HC RESULT: NORWICH CITY 3, WISBECH TOWN 1 REPORT: The Womens 1st Team took on Wisbech 1's on our home H20 pitch. The pre match warm up started with some sick old school tunes from Harriet Johnson getting the girls pumped and ready for their tuff match ahead! Wisbech won the toss and had first push back but from the first whistle City won the ball back and pressured Wisbech into their half with some good passing around the back from Harriet Johnson, Suzie Mitchell, Sally Rose and Felicity Williams, Williams was able to distribute the ball forwards to Krystal who won us our first short corner which narrowly missed Olivia Williams who was running onto the post. City continued to pressure and create some chances with quick passing and movement on the right from Harriet Johnson, Jo Staines and Olivia Williams. Wisbech defended well and fought hard and made their way into city's half and into the D winning a short corner. City defended it well with a good save from our keeper Summer Haylock but the defence gave away another short away which then lead to a goal leaving city 0-1 down. City worked hard and passed the ball well getting it back into Wisbech's D and won a short corner which was put away by Felicity Williams putting the score to 1-1! City continued to dominate and with a cracking ball through to Krystal Bishop from our captain Jo Staines, Bishop found herself at a narrow angle with a one on one with the keeper and slotted the ball home giving city a 2-1 lead for half time! With a good team talk at half time from coach Pies the girls were ready for the second half. The second half started well for city. The solid defence who kept possession with some great transfers around the back from Danielle sizer, Sally Rose,Pui Foung Chung and Harriet Johnson and creative play in the middle from Angela Hindle, Micayla Tootil, Felicity Williams found the forwards Abbie Ingham, Olivia Williams, Ellie Brine and Emily Francis charging forwards creating multiple chances. A great piece of set play from Abbie Ingham and the Williams Sisters saw the ball in the net but was unfortunately disallowed. This made City even more determined and with some more awesome play and team work from the forwards, Ellie Brine set up Olivia Williams who finally managed to get her goal! City were 3-1 ahead! City continued to drive forwards with creative play and passing finishing the game with a solid 3-1 win! It was another great team performance with lots of positives! POTM went to Felicity Williams.

Attacking play from the off saw some confident passing from the forwards. A run down the right wing and a cross into the box from Holly saw Amelia Ellis-Baumber get her first goal of the game! 1-0 City. A great City debut for Kathy who slotted in well with the defence. Reliable play from Rosie and solid teamwork in the middle, allowed the forwards time to try a range of options. A strong fight from UEA gave City work to do. Despite the attacks from UEA, City worked the ball back up the pitch. A second goal for Amelia and a goal from Hannah made it 3-0 at half time. At half time city reviewed their shape and discussed the importance of all players getting back to mark and remembering the effectiveness of the wide game. The H20 pitch certainly gave City the edge today and a bouncing ball in the D enabled Holly to hit a fourth goal Home. A left slip from a short corner saw Amelia achieve a hat trick with her third goal of the game! 5-0 to City. Annabel worked tirelessly upfront and was rewarded with her own goal to make the final score 6-0. Special thanks to Emily and Kirstin for helping the 4’s out and commiserations to Heather who was injured early on, with a nasty blow to the hand. Match Report kindly provided by POTM Holly Robinson.

W (8-0) 07/10/2017 - LDB vs Norwich Dragons (A / L) DERBY DAY AT THE DRAGON'S DEN |

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI B - 07/10/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI B DATE: 07/10/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI B VS 07/10/2017 HEADLINE: Derby day at the Dragon's Den LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragon's Den RESULT: Norwich Dragons 0-8 Norwich City REPORT: The pre-match anticipation of a tense, closely-fought Norwich derby evaporated within seconds of the push-back as City strolled to an 8-0 victory over their fireless opponents on a rain-soaked afternoon at the Dragon’s Den. It was an impressive feat that the City goals were scored by six different girls, and even more impressive that after almost an hour of standing alone in a deserted City D, goalkeeper Imogen was still able to make three fabulous last-minute saves to preserve her third clean sheet in four matches. Debutant Phoebe Williams slotted seamlessly in to the meanest defence in the league, and her splendid performance was capped by picking up a well-deserved Player of the Match accolade. Coach Graeme sent the team on to the field with the tongue in cheek instruction to score two in the first five minutes, which they punctually did through a reverse stick effort from the edge of the D by Tilly, followed by pinball wizard Niamh hitting a close range shot off the stick of a defender, followed by both feet of the Dragons goalkeeper before tricking over the goal line. Later in the quarter, Niamh nimbly took the ball around two Dragons defenders before crossing for Lucy to slap the ball home at the far post. End of Q1: Dragons 0-3 City. The second quarter was a scrappy affair, mainly played in the Dragons half of the pitch, with little else to report until a late short corner was walloped in to the top corner of the Dragons net by Effie. Half Time: Dragons 0-4 City City looked more fluid in the second half and as the rain began to fall, the girls began to play the sort of free-flowing, attacking hockey that we have grown accustomed to. Chances began to be created by the bucket-load, and it wasn’t long before Niamh’s cross from the right was controlled by Evie, who proceeded to lob the goalkeeper for the fifth. A short corner worked from Niamh to Evie was crossed and tucked in neatly at the far post by Lucy, prior to another identical short corner this time eventually lifted by Evie to Sabina, who showed marvellous co-ordination to strike the ball on the volley into the Dragons goal. End of Q3 Dragons 0-7 City. The fourth quarter was rather like the second, but with more rain. On the pitch, a well worked move down the right between Phoebe and Tilly released Emily, whose barnstorming run and cross was swept in at the front post by Evie. The remainder of the half was all City, punctuated by the last-minute foray by dragons for their first attempts on the City goal. Time appeared to stand still, as the rain poured, and the temperature plummeted, but eventually and thankfully the full-time whistle whistled, and the sodden participants trudged back to the welcome warmth of the clubhouse. Full Time: Dragons 0-8 City

The mood was soon changed when Francis Louis Preston serenaded the team with Sinead O'Connor’s version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” then we we ready to take on the oppo. The majority of the game was a fiery affair, with Norwich creating the better chances, but failing to get on the scoresheet in the first half. Unfortunately Harry Ingham took a rather nasty blow to the knee when an opposition defender drilled a clearance into his knee from point blank range, which saw him unable to continue. The second half brought much of the same dirty tactics from the Wisbech side and two of their players saw yellow both for scything tackles on David Skinner. Then the goals came; Princess Diana (aka Nicholas Jones) scoring one from a rebounded short corner and David Skinner also scoring with a straight hit from a short corner. Wisbech's best chance actually came from one of City's players themselves when Ed Sutton deflected a cross marginally over his own bar. After chasing the ball around for 70 minutes, on a pitch that could be likened to a beach, the final score was 2-0 to Norwich. Player of the match went to Alastair Cooke in goal for his first clean sheet of the season.

MENS 2ND XI - 07/10/2017 VS UEA 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 07/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 07/10/2017 HEADLINE: City fair better in tricky conditions LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-1 Win REPORT: Norwich city 2’s went into this weekend’s fixture reeling from a poor performance against St Ives in the previous game. City knew that had to make several improvements in order to get back to winning ways. City started the game well and had UEA on the back foot for much of the first half. Some nice link up play created chances for city and it wasn’t long before Elliott and Gill combined with a lovely move to open the scoring as Gill got his first of the afternoon. U’s had one or two ventures into the city half but where denied by some last ditch tackling from the solid paring of Crichton and Scott. City then doubled their lead when Gill fired a rocket into the bottom corner of the U’s goal 2-0. With five minutes of the half left city then grabbed a third, this time it was Cheesman (who moments earlier had missed an open goal) getting in on the action. A fine piece of control left the forward with a tap in and city finished the half 3-0 to the good. Hindle’s half time team talk may have been a little harsh but if truths be told city where still only playing at 80%. Hindle wanted city to be more ruthless and finish the game off with the excellent style of hockey that he’s become accustom to in his 4 seasons at the helm. As the second half got under way the heavens opened and the wind howled. The conditions were so bad that even the umpires had a difficult time spotting the ball, or was it a foot? I guess we’ll never know. The game ebbed and flowed with neither team enjoying the conditions and the standard of hockey being the real looser. U’s got a conciliation goal from a short corner to make the score 3-1. The game fizzled out with city ruing chances and Scott and Elliott taking enforced 2 minute rests. City will be pleased with another 3 points and will be looking forward to next weekend’s old farm derby against Magpies 2’s. MOTM – Harry Gill TYFC – Dan Cheesman

The match started well enough for City as a strong first 10 minutes saw the visitors continuously on the back foot. The only thing left to do for City was to create that final pass and steady hand in front of goal, and it was to this end that Bury came into the game. Having weathered the early storm, the visitors took the lead midway through the half quite fortuitously as a deflected shot crept in at the far post. City lost confidence from then on in and although showed some good passing moves at times, the cut and thrust of the early encounter evaded the forward line. The second half started brightly for the home side with only a single goal to recover early on, but gaps appeared in the midfield, as the forward line and the defense became further apart in search of an equaliser, Bury scored a half volley screamer into the top corner midway into the second half and took a strangle hold on the game. Continuously frustrating the stuttering attack from the home team, a further 2 goals were added late on in the match to give a comfortable feel to an otherwise well contested affair and once again, city finished empty handed. Nomads were missing a number of players and struggled against the passing and movement of City's eager youngsters. Man of the match Elliot Fox opened the scoring for City inside two minutes and it wasn't long before left defender Dave King added a second. Nomads then settled and though City were still in the ascendancy it was a while before a third was adde, Alex Tomkinson scoring with another lift over the keeper. 3-0 up at the break and City were asked to keep the momentum and work rate going, which they proceeded to do. Lee Allsop scored a fourth followed by a Rob McCall tap in at the far post. Nomads managed a consolation goal when a deflection fell kindly for them with keeper Eddie Darley unsighted. Alex Tomkinson rounded off the scoring withhis second to give City a comfortable opening victory. James Robb on his City debut started with a solid performance in defence and was unlucky not to find himself on the score sheet, though put in several testing crosses.

L (2-5) 07/10/2017 - MD vs Norwich Dragons A (A / L) YOUNG DEVS SUCKER PUNCHED BY LOCAL RIVALS |

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 07/10/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS A (A) TEAM: Mens Development XI DATE: 07/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens Development XI VS 07/10/2017 HEADLINE: Young Devs sucker punched by local rivals LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Goals RESULT: Dragons A 5 - NCHC 2 REPORT: A scratch City side boasting 3 U12 players (Krishna Patel, Harry Ford and Josie Miller) valiantly stuck to their task against an older and more experienced Dragons side. Whilst the first quarter was fairly even, with Toby Pallister and Sam Hyatt controlling midfield, it was Dragons who took the lead through a well executed short corner. The second quarter was by far City's best period with some delightful passing moves involving Henry Baker, Toby, Sam, Freddie Paterson and the tireless forwards, Oliver Millet and Harry. With the emphasis on ball retention and the forwards playing high City scored a well deserved equaliser thanks to an Oliver Millet tap in following a Harry Ford flick past the keeper. (Harry's shot may have been going in but Oliver in true forward fashion made sure to claim the goal.) Whilst the second was the team's best sadly the third quarter was the low point. City regularly made excellent tackles (Joseph Roy, Cameron Hansell and Henry Baker in particular) but were guilty of giving the ball away which Dragons capitalised on driving the ball down the right, along the byline for a simple tap in. 5-1 and could have been worse but for an excellent display by Josie in goal: not looking good!! A tactical switch saw debutant James Wilton and Cameron Hansell swapping wings and Henry Baker dropping deeper to give the team more solidity and meant City looked far more threatening. With Toby, Sam and Freddie almost regalvanised a sublime move from centre field down the left was crossed for Harry to reverse stick the ball one handed past the keeper. City's move of the match. The match ended in a somewhat farsical (but correct) fashion with Birthday boy James Cross from Dragons receiving a green card for hitting the ball away with just 2 seconds left. All saw the funny side and James "celebrated" by buying cakes for both teams. All in all a decent game, played by 11 City players who have never played as a team before. Top training tip: be calm on the ball, and maintain possession.
