LADIES 2ND XI - 07/01/2017 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: Impressive start to the year! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: Won 9-0 REPORT: For our first match back after Christmas we knew we had to do a thorough warm up to get ourselves back into the hockey mindset. We started well with excellent link up play contributing to Leigh-Ann Worrall scoring the first goal of the game in a short corner to make us 1-0 up. We continued our team play and 4 more goals followed. The second an excellent straight strike from Annabelle Phoenix, the third a goal from Kate Hartland, the fourth a deflection from a defender's stick which Hannah Jarvis hit. We went into half time 5-0 up. During half time we discussed our targets which were to switch around the forwards to get them used to playing in different positions and to double our score. We went into the second half continuing our high intensity and superb distribution of the ball around the pitch which was helped by Angela Hindle who played exceptionally in centre midfield. Emily Francis was then able to drive down the left side and score a reverse stick goal. Hannah then ran the ball around the left of the D and crossed the ball in, deflecting it off a defender's foot into the top corner. The best goal of the game came from Milly Brown which started with Hannah running down the middle, slipping it to Milly running down the right who was then able to smash it into the left corner from the top of the D. Two more goals game from Kate, one a reverse stick and one from a short corner making it a hat-trick for Hartland. The final score: 9-0 We demonstrated a great whole team performance and is an impressive start to the second half of the season!

LADIES 3RD XI - 07/01/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-2 (D) REPORT: First game back after Christmas and city were raring to go with a high tempo press early on. Good passing early on between Phoebe York, Rachael Cave, Rachel Gregory settling city down into the match. City took the lead after around 20 minutes of play, through a ball in from Sabina Illing, which the keeper deflected in the direction of Olivia Greenway to slot home making the score 1-0 to city. Towards the end of the first half, Dragons found some luck with a short corner deflecting off a city player and into the back of the net, leveling the game 1-1. Shortly after Dragons equaliser, they capitalised with city still suffering the effects of the first goal, Dragons had a quick break towards city's goal, unfortunately another city deflection making the score 2-1 to Dragons. Start of the second half was an edgy affair, with both teams eager to get ahead. City making good use of their substitutes keeping on top of the game, with Kirstin Aitken and Alice Beckett playing solidly at the back with Gemma Sargent and Megan Conway. With Jenni Stanghan vocally encouraging the team, city soon got the equaliser with a great ball through from Sabina to Caroline Illing, who passed it across the circle to Emily Greenway waiting to finish, making the final score 2-2. Even contest and a fair result, thanks to coach pies helping on the sideline. POTM- Sabina Illing.

LADIES 4TH XI - 07/01/2017 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:0-9 REPORT: NCHC womens 4s faced a tough inter-club challenge for their first fixture after Christmas, playing the NCHC womens 2s. The opening ten minutes saw some strong passing by the 4s and good phases of play, but it was against an opposition that quickly settled into their own game. The 2s put away five goals in the first half, helped by a couple of unfortunate deflections by full back Kim Lusher, who for the rest of her defensive performance earned player of the match. The second half saw four more goals by the 2s, including lovely finishes by Milly Brown and Kate Hartland. Although the 4s never gave up and made some good runs via the likes of Hannah Bush and Grace Kidner, the 2s were undoubtedly too strong and deservedly took the win. Match Report kindly provided by POTM, Kim Lusher.

Railway started off the mark quickly to sccore a goal but City soon came back and scored 3 goals in fairly quick succession. City played well off the break with Charlotte making some fast runs and out foxing the opposition. But the Railway did not give up fighting and were relentless in their effort to hit goal. They soon equalised with the defense having to work very hard to keep them at bay. At half time the score was 3-3 and the second half was end to end hockey. Well done to both teams.

LADIES 6TH XI - 07/01/2017 VS PELICANS 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: Goodbye to mince pies and hello to a win in foggy King's Lynn LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Pelicans RESULT: Pelicans nil, Norwich City 6s two goals REPORT: Foggy conditions and the long journey to Pelicans, didn’t deter City 6s who arrived determined to notch up a win. A slightly faltering opening few minutes was soon dismissed as the sticks warmed up and the team left the turkey and mince pies behind and quickly discovered their usual game play after the Christmas break. City pressed hard and had the best of the play for almost all the match, but struggled to convert. Their tireless work around the D was peppered with several dangerous breaks from a youthful Pelicans which were scuppered by City’s defensive unit. Despite countless attempts on goal and lots of passing in and around the D, Pelicans blocked City’s numerous attacks. Eventually, player of the match Lucy McNarry scored from the right post towards the end of the first half after calmly slotting a pass from her mum Carol McNarry past the keeper. There was relief in the City ranks but awareness that the team needed to add to the tally to keep them safe. The second half saw more of the same with a strong City repeatedly attacking the home team’s defensive D. Then in her customary calm and collected style Fran Cooke scored an impressive goal in the final eight minutes of play with a slightly lifted ball following a long corner. Final score Pelicans nil, Norwich City 6s two goals. POM Lucy McNarry

W (2-0) 07/01/2017 - LD vs Pelicans (H / L) "WE SHOULD HAVE HAD A HAT FULL!" |

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 07/01/2017 VS PELICANS (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: "We should have had a hat full!" LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2:0 REPORT: Fully rested after the Christmas festivities, the team were eager to continue their winning run on home soil. Again, the team were boosted by some willing U12 players and 15 girls were available to face Pelicans in the growing Taverham mist. The first quarter was dominated by Norwich, Kate Houldey commanding midfield and Matilda Butterworth and Niamh Campbell quickly carving out multiple chances from the right wing. These regular forays produced good opportunities for both Abi Flatt and Frances Byrne and successive penalty corners were awarded. Initially carefully rehearsed routines were followed to the letter when perhaps a simple well struck shot would have been more effective, but eventually an opportunity fell to Matilda, who had moved to the near post after injecting the ball, and she slotted home. Norwich continued to dominate in the second quarter but the play lacked the width of the first and opportunities were more difficult to engineer. Meanwhile Pelicans began to forage down their right wing necessitating some sharp defending from Lucy Jenkinson and Sabina Baker. Frances Underhill also grew quickly into her new role in defence looking strong and assured. Ultimately, the quarter ended with no additional score emphasizing a need to spread play in the second half. The team took to the second half with renewed gusto and again attacking opportunities quickly arose due to the play once again being spread to both flanks. Very good work from Maddie Smith and Abi Hill, coupled with the ever-running Kate, made the mid-field almost impenetrable whilst Matilda and Niamh, supported by Evie-Mae Thorpe and Freya Myhill, created chance after chance. As parents and coach alike delighted in the creativity, everyone shared the growing frustration as the ball simply wouldn’t go into the net. Surely it couldn’t last? The pressure continued with more and more players pressing for that deserved goal but this created a risk of a Pelicans breakaway chance. Fortunately, the defence remained resolute with Maggie Mayo and Sabina doing well to stop the Pelicans sporadic long pass attacks leaving Daisy to look mournfully through her helmet at another missed opportunity to touch the ball! At last, to the delight (and relief) of the home fans, Abi Flatt struck an unstoppable shot from close range just as the umpire was drawing breath to blow the final whistle. A well-earned victory for the team, albeit the score line did not reflect the creativity and craft of a team who appeared destined to score into double digits. This was another match where the team excelled, unlike their opponents, without the assistance of an experienced lady player in defence. Maddie and Matilda were deservedly appointed joint players of the game (sorry Maddie, I couldn’t put two names on the summary sheet so flipped a coin!). Kate also continued her excellent role as captain both on and off the field. Thanks to everyone for their committed play. Next, putting out the Dragons fire!

MENS 3RD XI - 07/01/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: Another defeat by 1 GOAL!!!! PRE-SEASON Friendly VENUE: Taverham High School RESULT: 3-2 Loss REPORT: City 3s entertained Dragons 1s in a mid-season friendly at Taverham, City had a mixed-team which included 2 keepers! Despite a new team City played quite well in the opening period with Perry having a PC saved on the line and Marchant also coming very close, despite a half where City just shaded the chances Dragons took the lead thanks to a breakaway goal. In the 2nd half City squandered a great chance to equaliser when Leonards ball was played against the post from Land before Dragons youngsters managed to walk in a couple of pretty simple goals, at 3-0 the game seemed to be over and dead but some lovely hockey which saw Ingham set up Leonard who finished well, 3-1. A PC minuets later was finished by Nick Hooper and despite pushing for an equaliser City finished just short. The spirit shown by City to come from 3 goals down to nearly drawing is most certainly needed on Saturday as they host a key regulation battle game versus Cambridge City 4s.

It was at this point however they were at there most deadliest when the managed to scramble home a PC of their own. Overall probably a fair result.
