WOMENS 3RD XI - 06/10/2018 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: Slick City win again LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 2-1 (win) REPORT: Despite the rain, Norwich City women’s 3s were in good spirits and keen to take the three points against visitors Loddon 1s. The first half started evenly, with simple hockey and one-two touch passes. As City built momentum, they ventured into the opposition half on multiple occasions, via some lovely runs through Heather Tasker and Ellie Hobden, two great little players. In midfield, captain Kim Lusher and Marie Hood turned out a solid performance. Upfront, Annabel Pounder helped set up City’s first goal, with Heather getting her team on the scoreboard and giving them the lead going into the second half. Loddon slowly pulled themselves back into the game with a goal from Beverley Bucklee. But the visitors couldn’t convert any of the short corners they demanded, all of which were dispensed with by City’s keeper, and player of the match, Serena Scott. Into the last 20 minutes of them game, Loddon got another short corner. Karren Dagless defended fearlessly even when a straight strike got her on the knee and Loddon’s umpire awarded them a penalty flick. Serena was having none of it; she saved the flick and kept City in the game. City fought hard and pushed further into the visitor’s half within the last five minutes. It was then Olivia Greenway who slotted a cracking a ball into the back of the net to put the hosts ahead again. City kept calm and carried the game to the end, making victory theirs.

WOMENS 4TH XI - 06/10/2018 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: Well earned 1st point for City 4s LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2 . 2 REPORT: This week City womens 4s hosted Magpies 4s at home. It was a tough and challenging game but despite the cold, wet weather we worked really well as a team. We got an early goal straight from the start scored by Niamh Campbell with an amazing reverse hit. Soon after, Magpies equalised making 1-1 by half time. After the half time talk, frustratingly Magpies managed to score another in the middle of the second half. Even with a couple of short cornersCCity had no luck, until the final minutes of the game. With a classic set, Caroline Illing delivered the ball across the D to Abi Flatt, who swept it past the keeper, getting city another goal! This making the overall score a draw 2-2. Well done to everyone who played in an end to end exciting and entertaining match.. Thanks to Grahame Campbell for organising the bench. Charlotte Baxter deservedly POTM.

D (0-0) 06/10/2018 - W6 vs Broadland 3 (H / L) CITY HAD BEST OF PLAY, BUT UNFORTUNATELY COULDN'T FIND THE NET TODAY |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 06/10/2018 VS BROADLAND 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: City had best of play, but unfortunately couldn't find the net today LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-0 REPORT:City started at a high-energy and positive tempo, playing well and passing the ball up the pitch to create repeated attacks on the Broadland defence. However, an agile Broadland keeper foiled most attempts and unfortunately several other great City strikes narrowly missed - hitting the crossbar or going just millimetres wide. Luck wasn't on City's side today but they held their nerve and pushed the ball high up the pitch repeatedly. Throughout the game City played well as a team as well as individually, with everybody giving their all - as the spread of names of team members nominated for player of the match testifies. Norwich continued to have the best of the play throughout the whole match but just couldn’t find a much-deserved goal, repelled by the Broadland defenders who won several 16s then fired the back down the other end of the pitch. City responded well by (wo)man-marking out Broadland’s high attackers to keep their goal safe from long balls attempting to find a high player. Midfield, together with some great work from the half-backs, also cut out several of these long and hopeful Broadland balls and sent them back up the pitch again. Meanwhile, full backs Emma Guyton and player-of-the-match Karen Paterson both had notable games, mopping up any dangerous-looking balls. After impressively stopping a goal on the line last week, Karen Paterson was on full power again today, timing her tackles well, winning back the ball and sending it safely off the line or to a team member. Goalie Helen Lewis also had a great game, making some crucial, much-appreciated saves when called into action. All-in-all an exciting, high-tempo game, with City having by far most of the play - but happy that they hadn't conceded a goal against the run of play. Both teams went home with a point, and agreed it had been an enjoyable and good-tempered game.

L (0-2) 06/10/2018 - M2 vs Potters Bar 1 (H / L) CITY UNDONE BY WELL-DRILLED POTTERS BAR SIDE |

MENS 2ND XI - 06/10/2018 VS POTTERS BAR 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: City undone by well-drilled Potters Bar side LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2-0 loss REPORT: On a wet (but not so windy) day at Taverham, City faced a Potters Bar side which none of us had played before; although we had been told that they knew how to defend a lead very well. Don’t concede first then… City started under pressure from the start, as Potters Bar played a very high press which pegged us back into our own half. They were the better of the two teams, having a number of early chances which tested the strength of our defence, but the pairing of Pallister and Crichton stood firm. However, the deadlock was eventually broken by Potters Bar midway through the first half, as a ball across the City D from the right was put in at the back post, (despite a clear obstruction in the process). City started to push upfield and had a couple of half-chances, but no clear-cut opportunities. We went in at half-time 1-0 down knowing we needed to push upfield and really stretch their defence, as all we were seeing from our 16s was “a wall of black shirts.” Second half was much the same, until the arrival of super-sub Hindle. Moving around swiftly across their 23, he was the recipient of some excellent through-balls which began to stretch their defence, something that both last week’s and today’s visitors had been very good at doing to us. After having a fairly even 10 minutes of play; Potters Bar sent a long ball in, which somehow crept over the line for 2-0. Once again we came under increasing pressure and a couple of decent saves from Millett kept the score as it was, even after Rich received a green card. City pushed forward in the final few minutes, but never really tested their keeper and the game finished 2-0. A tough game against another well-drilled London side, showing us we have to play the game smart. However, the effort from some of the players today was admirable in horrid conditions.

L (1-2) 06/10/2018 - M3 vs Pelicans 1 (A / L) WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN... |

MENS 3RD XI - 06/10/2018 VS PELICANS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: What could have been... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Lynnsport RESULT: 2-1 loss REPORT: City once again demonstrated that they have what it takes to win games in this league, with the exception of one thing: scoring goals. From the start City knew it wouldn't be an easy game and a few decisions did go against them, but City kept their heads and created chances. Chances that weren't finished off and were slowly building frustration. Eventually a goal did come for City when Rees Leonard slotted the ball through the Peli keeper's legs. This fired up Pelicans who immediately upped their game and their physical presence leading to pressure on the City back line. Unfortunately for City this pressure allowed a ball hit into the D to find a Pelican player by the back post who knocked in the ball to equalise. The second half saw both teams have chances, but it was City who had the most. As mentioned earlier, these chances weren't put away and it was to cost City dearly. In the last 10 minutes, pelicans hit the ball into the D, for a forward to get a lucky touch on the ball which deflected it into the City goal. The game finished 2-1 to Pelicans and left City frustrated as they knew they should have won comfortably. Not taking chances and poor marking/fitness were the culprits of the day. Man of match: Luke Elwes in goal, a strong debut. TYFC: Murray Breetske

Update = no lasting damage and will be fit to play next week. Phew! Man of the Match: Malcolm Jewers in the City goal

MENS 6TH XI - 06/10/2018 VS LOWESTOFT RLY 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 6th XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 6th XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: Good effort in second half LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE:Taverham RESULT:lost 3-1 REPORT: yet again we had a poor first half and were 3-0 down at half time . Our biggest problem is giving the ball away to the opposition and trying to play the long game. At half time we had a reorganisation and a much improved game resulting our first goal in this league scored by Woody . Max had a good game in goal again and we had a really good performance from Luke in the second half and he was given the man of the match award for this week.

W (2-1) 06/10/2018 - MD vs Dereham (A / L) PERSEVERANCE PAID WITH A WELL DESERVED WIN |

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 06/10/2018 VS DEREHAM (A) TEAM: Mens Development XI DATE: 06/10/2018 FIXTURE: Mens Development XI VS 06/10/2018 HEADLINE: Perseverance paid with a well deserved win LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: City win 2-1 REPORT: With much possession and the majority of attacks city held on to the ball fairly well; the AI duo (Illing and Irving) at the back repelling the few fleeting attacks with composure and maturity. Midfield support from Hancock, Roy and Patel was rock solid and the our plentiful attacking sprees from Beake, Kassulke, Mackenzie, Miller, Millet, Nkrumah and Rushton had more batter than a pineapple fritter - and after that we warmed up. So it was with resignation that the team gathered at half time with the score at 1-a-piece; without Kimber's excellent save it could have been worse! However, in the 3rd quarter the team put in the work required to finally defeat the opposing keeper and his solid defence by crafting a terrific goal with speed, accuracy and a touch of class. Congratulations to Harvey Nkrumah, James Mackenzie and Louis Miller on their Devs team league debuts - determined, skillful and thoughtful players all making a solid first match contribution.
