WOMENS 1ST XI - 06/06/2021 VS ST NEOTS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 06/06/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 06/06/2021 HEADLINE: NCHC WOMENS 1S BACK IN ACTION LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 REPORT: City womens made their long awaited return to competitive hockey in the first round at the cup. City started brightly, controlling possession and the tempo, with St Neots struggling to get out of their own half. City were pressing well as a team, and using the channels to much success lead to the opening goal. Some great build up play on the right from Ella Gill and Sophie Mullan provided the opportunity for Stacey Lee to cross the ball to Krystal Bishop who flicked it over the diving goalie. Moments later Lee set up Bishop again to make it 2-0. City continued to dominate in all areas of the pitch, allowing Felicity Williams to provide us with one of her famous sliders, and a tactical deflection from Stacey allowed an unmarked Bishop to volley the ball into the net. City remained impenetrable with the defensive unit of Ella Gill, Micayla Tootill, Felicity Williams, Helen Busfield and Maddie Anthony. After another great passage of play down the right-hand channel, Olivia Williams angled a perfect ball for Krystal to deflect in from the back post. Just before half time, Niamh Campbell scored with a lovely reverse stick shot. Half Time: 5-0 Although city continue to dominant in the second half, city struggled to find the back of the net with St Neots packing their own D. Some silky skills and attacking play by Sophie Mullan, Ellie Brine and Lucy Tilbrook, provided a plethora of opportunities and short corners but St Neots kept city at bay. Final score 5-0. POTM: Krystal Bishop.

FILLIES XI - 06/06/2021 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS U14GS (A) TEAM: Fillies XI DATE: 06/06/2021 FIXTURE: Fillies XI VS 06/06/2021 HEADLINE: Great win in testing conditions LEAGUE: EH UNDER 14 GIRLS PLATE VENUE: CULFORD SCHOOL RESULT: BURY U14 GIRLS 1 NORWICH CITY U14 GIRLS 3 REPORT: City arrived at Bury with a bare 11 players on a warm muggy Sunday morning to face a large Bury squad. The warm up proved to be warm work and it was clear the girls would have a tiring match. From the start it soon became apparent that City would have a lot of defending to do and would be reliant on counter attacks. What transpired was a terrific team performance with all players defending as if their lives depended on it. Lucy Walton and Poppy Scott made lots of timely tackles at the back with Jess Westbury in goal blocking most attempts that eluded Lucy and Poppy. Annabelle Royal, Evie Brockington and Ellie Tomkinson provided a solid screen with Evie distributing the ball intelligently and Annabelle making some surging runs down the right. Millie Power and Obie Hansell worked tirelessly in midfield breaking up attacks and then getting forward to support the counter attacks. At the front Grace Hanworth-knights caused the Bury defence all sorts of problems with her dribbling skills whilst Mirabelle Harden and Olivia Kazimierczak provided great support on the wings. City took the lead after twenty five minutes when Grace Hanworth-Knights crashed home a short corner. Just after the half time break City extended their lead when a free hit just outside the circle went through Millie Power and Obie Hansell before falling to Grace whose reverse stick shot beat the keeper. This looked to have given City some breathing space, but Bury hit back straight from the restart to reduce the arrears. As the conditions started to take its toll City came under more pressure and it looked as if Bury had equalised before Poppy appeared to clear the ball off the line. City clinched the match two minutes from time when Grace smashed home another shirt corner. Poppy was voted player of the match just ahead of Grace and Lucy, but all players deserve to be congratulated on a terrific team performance.
