LADIES 2ND XI - 04/02/2017 VS DEREHAM 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: City 2's secure yet another win LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: Won 4-0 REPORT: This Saturday Norwich City 2’s took on a spirited Dereham 3’s side at Taverham, City were determined to take the game to them, sitting joint top of the league we knew we couldn’t let any points drop. With great pressure the early possession was all City, piercing runs from Milly Brown and Emily Francis who won player of the match created multiple chances. It was only a few minutes before City took the lead, with Leigh Ann Worrall converting a short corner with a rocket of a straight strike. Ellie Brine and Hannah Jarvis were hassling away creating opportunities and won a string of short corners, before Ellie Brine continued her efforts and converted a shot following a tussle with some players and the keeper with her ball looping into the net. Dereham made a few forays into our D but were kept at bay by Serena Scott in goal including a fantastic diving tackle. Karren Dagless, Danni Garwood and Leigh Ann Worrall kept the Dereham forwards out of the D intercepting chances outside of the 25 with Becky Gaffney and Ellie Pitcher clearing these balls up the pitch to the forwards with ease. Post half time, City new more goals were needed and they soon came, with a weaving run from Emily Francis, transferred across the pitch to Kate Hartland who put a perfectly timed ball to the far post for Hannah Jarvis to sprint onto and deflect in – straight of the training ground! Rosie Humphrey and Matilda Warde-Aldam who had been running tirelessly all game kept the pressure up surrounding the Dereham circle and Ange Hindle put more great balls into the D, resulting in another short corner. Injection out to Leigh Ann Worrall and another ball smashed into the back board. 4-0 and top of the league (albeit on goal difference) – not a bad day.

LADIES 3RD XI - 04/02/2017 VS EVERGREENS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-2 REPORT: Norwich City Womens 3rd XI gained 2 places in the Empresa Norfolk Premier League to 4th place on goal difference following a 3-2 win against Evergreens Womens 1st team at the weekend. Norwich City opened the score line with Rachael Cave converting from a clinically executed short corner routine. Evergreens attacking with vigour then equalised from a scuffle in the D just before the end of the first half. Evergreens then took the lead early in the second half with a sprint down the right and a quick pass to a player on the post saw Norwich City fall behind. However, City then pressured the Evergreens defence and were taking advantage of the free hits that they were being awarded and the continual pressure began to show on the Evergreen’s defence allowing Rachael Cave to lift a shot into the goal from a tight angle on the right to bring City back into the game. Following further pressure, and skilful play by Abi Bourne saw her put away the winning goal to put City in the lead. City were then able to contain Evergreens for the remaining 12 minutes of the match securing the win.

W (4-0) 04/02/2017 - W4 vs Carrow 1 (H / L) AGAINST ALL THE ODDS ..... |

LADIES 4TH XI - 04/02/2017 VS CARROW 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: Against all the odds ..... LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:4-0 (win) REPORT: Norwich City Womens 4s had the home advantage on this bright Saturday afternoon. However they were missing a good number of their regular squad members and knew that it wouldn't necessarily be an easy match against the team at the bottom of the league. This was evident during the first half. Although City had the majority of the ball and spent much of the first 35 minutes in the opposition's half, Carrow had some skilful players and made a couple of good breaks. City's back line remained strong and dealt with any threats well, making good use of the width to push the ball back up past the half way line. Frustratingly for City, the half ended nil-nil. With the sun now behind them City started the second half much brighter. It wasn't long before Emily Spencer's strike from the top of the D hit the back board and soon after Hannah Bush made it 2-0. City continued to dominate the game; Eliza Barclay made a fantastic break half way up the right of the pitch which she followed up with a perfectly timed pass across goal to Holly Robinson who was able to tap it in for City's third. City continued to pile on the pressure and they were unlucky not to convert a few more chances. Finally, after a rebounded strike from the top of the D, Livvy Broadway found herself with the ball at a very tight angle to the left of the goal. However, she kept her cool and managed to squeeze it past the keeper to leave the final score 4-0. A well-deserved win for Norwich City.

L (1-2) 04/02/2017 - W6 vs Evergreens 2 (A / L) A TOUGH GAME! |
---|
LADIES 6TH XI - 04/02/2017 VS EVERGREENS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: A tough game! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams RESULT: Evergreens 2, Norwich 1 REPORT: This was a tough game. Short-of-players Evergreens resorted to lots of doubling up today. This resulted in an unusually strong second team that included several of their first teamers who play in the Premier division – two leagues above the 6s. Last time Norwich 6s met Evergreens at Taverham, it was an easy win. This time it was a different story and they pressed hard from the off, with a trio of strong players controlling the play and making threatening break after break. A confident Evergreens team cleared well on 16s with powerful, long-ball hits picked up by their waiting attackers. Norwich worked hard to keep them at bay, managing to make several strong attacks themselves. But a powerful Evergreens forward line, proved too much for City who went into the half-time break one nil down. The second half saw City having more of the play – but still fending off some serious attacks. They had a well-drilled routine to win short corners and this unfortunately resulted in a second goal for Evergreens – despite some brilliant saves from player of the match goalie Anna Linsmith. Norwich were strong on the attack, but turned the ball over frequently as the fast-paced Evergreens intercepted passes or presented City with a wall of green defenders around the top of the D. Despite the strong opposition, City still managed to look dangerous and had several tries on goal. Their hard work eventually paid off when a skilful pass in from Carey Briggs was expertly netted from the right by Lucy McNarry.

W (4-3) 05/02/2017 - M1 vs Barton (H / EH MT4) CITY THROUGH TO QUARTERS IN EH TROPHY AFTER PENALTY STROKES |

MENS 1ST XI - 05/02/2017 VS BARTON (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 05/02/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 05/02/2017 HEADLINE: City through to quarters in EH trophy after penalty strokes LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION B VENUE: Taverham Recreational Facility RESULT: 3-3; 4-2 Penalty Strokes REPORT: Tom Cooke: Worse for wear after a late night, but managed to score 2 goals from Centre back. Kicking one into his own goal, and surprising everyone with a half decent drag flick. Ali Cooke: Did alright, made some saves, said some naughty words, saved a flick, got man of the match. Nice. Harry Brown: Carrying on with his new habit, this man has decided that the PCDs needed lots of improvement. But with fantastic support from the side, he cleared up any mess that came through, even if he did get a booboo on his leg. Louis Preston: Hockey Player, heart throb, chat merchant. Just like his hair, his performance today was something truly special. Easily replacing Jeremy Elliot as post man for the rest of the season. Nick Jones: Pre match sweet talking with the umpires did not help him too much in the game, however he didn’t see red today. Did a hockey at a couple of points, was ok. Jeremy Elliott: Skillz 4 Dayz. Jeremy and stick blocking goes together like peanut butter and Jelly, turning numerous opposition players inside out, and bringing aspects of England’s rugby game yesterday into the match. Jez also scored, nice one mate. Tom Hindle: Solid performance from this man, chugging his way through the entirety of the match. However he was not too tired to slot his Penalty Flick home. Gabriel Marchant: Another one of the team under the effects of a late night, when the tables were down, and hope was running out, this man stepped up, well over the ball, deflecting in a cross with a sexy behind the back tap in. Lit. Ben Plumb: After a morning of cleaning up after his antics from the night before, still put in a shift, good work rate and ball possession. Dan Cheesman: Did some good skills and worked hard, this forward managed to find himself at left back, before a sniper in the bell tower ended this man’s game early. Tom Cox: Outrageous aerial pick from above his head, and good link up play down the right created some key attacking opportunities. Harry Gill: This natural right winger found himself on the left, confusing him. The opposition didn’t have much of an answer to this man’s pace. ZOOM Dave Skinner: His prayers were answered, excellent work rate and commitment, putting the opposition under threat throughout the entire game. Loves a good chat to the umpire.

L (1-4) 04/02/2017 - M1 vs City of Peterborough 2 (A / L) CITY COME UNSTUCK IN SECOND HALF |

MENS 1ST XI - 04/02/2017 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: City come unstuck in second half LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION B VENUE: Peterborough RESULT: 4-1 REPORT: City started of well, with good movement and transfers. But Peterborough's continued pressure managed to force several repeat short corners. With amazing PCD's the City defenders managed to keep the score line at 0-0, with one brilliant stick save in particular from Russell, reaching to his top right corner to deflect the dragflicks wide. Throughout the first half City managed to create some break away opportunities using the pace, particularly of City's speed merchant, Ali Husbands, at right half. However the ball just wasn't falling correctly for city and at 0-0 the best chance came from Louis Preston. With a slick run into the D, he rounded the keeper, but the resulting angle was a tight one and the ball just slid past the post. Start of the second half, the downfall. Within 10 minutes City managed to let several unlucky goals in. Here, after City returned with renewed ambition and with an extended period of pressure, City managed to score through the lobbed shot of Dan Cheeseman; proving that it ain't easy being Cheesy. However Peterborough's class shone through and after slotting one more goal. They managed to see the game out to a 4-1 loss for City.

D (3-3) 04/02/2017 - M2 vs Shefford & Sandy (H / L) CITY PICK UP A BITTER-SWEET POINT AGAINST HIGH FLYING SHEFFORD. |

MENS 2ND XI - 04/02/2017 VS SHEFFORD & SANDY (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: City pick up a bitter-sweet point against high flying Shefford. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Home RESULT: 3-3 REPORT: The City seconds faced Shefford and Sandy at TRF on Saturday. Having lost the return fixture heavily in the first half of the season, Norwich were keen to show how much they had improved over the season. The game got off to a quick start with Shefford having the best of the opening minutes and deserved their early goal. Norwich soon found their form and the back of the net through Tom Cox. Shefford added another as did Norwich from George Brine; both goals came from well worked penalty corners. The second half continued in the same vein as the first with chances at both ends as well as a number of cards for both teams in a very frantic, end to end game. The score finished 3-3 with Harry Gill bagging the third of city's goals. City pushed for a 4th and match winner but were unable to convert chances against a side reduced to 10 men. Pre-match, Captain Hindle, would have taken a draw against 3rd from top but in his post match interview, having played so well, Skipper Tom was left with a feeling that it may have been two points dropped. But a much improved performance will certainly help him sleep soundly tonight and lots of positives to take in to next weeks match.

L (4-11) 04/02/2017 - M3 vs Sudbury (A / L) CITY BEAT THEMSELVES RATHER THAN SUDBURY! |

MENS 3RD XI - 04/02/2017 VS SUDBURY (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: City beat themselves rather than Sudbury! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Great Conrad Sports Centre RESULT: A lot - not a lot REPORT: After City's 2-0 win in the previous week against IES 2s they took some confidence away to league leaders Sudbury. City were missing POTM Jake Cushion and key midfielder Ralph Jackman for this away trip with youngsters Harry Paterson, Will Kidner, Tom Bailey and Josh Bailey all stepping in. Sudbury pressed City early on but City managed to hold them off for the first 10 minuets when they took the lead from a well executed drag flick, 1-0. 1 soon became to 2 as City once again failed to keep hold of the ball and got caught by the quick and skilful Sudbury forwards. Ling then took a drag flick to the knee and City had to reshuffle their defence for the rest of the 1st half which caused major issues and Sudbury managed to rack up a 6-0 lead as well as City gifting them at least two goals from mistakes, City did have something to celebrate however after a good move from City down the right ended up with Adie Land scoring a well placed goal from the top of the D. 6-1 very poor! Sudbury however switched off in the 2nd half and City woke up and both Adie Land and Matthew Brine scored well placed goals as City pulled it back to 6-3. Then following a very poor decision from the umpire Sudbury scored a 7th from a short corner, City kept going and added a 4th from a good run from Ling and finish from Brine. City kept battling and were unlucky not to score more in the 2nd half, however in the final 10 minutes Sudbury scored another 4 as City tired to make the score line and embarrassment. City need to forget almost everything about this game if they are to stay in Division 2NE, they face another away game next week but this week at UEA, at least that is something we can remember from today is that we haven't got to go Sudbury for at least another season!

City's combined age of the back 4 was probably more than that of Magpies entire team (they were young). The youthfulness of the opposition did not thwart City as they set about playing some of their most positive hocky of the season. Within minutes, City had their first short corner - a miss played pass lead to Shaun Ferris tucking away the opening goal. Yet more positive play lead to a second short corner. There was no messing as Geofff Spencer smashed it into the corner. City did not buckle in the second half as they added another goal through Geoff Spencer. Magpies finally scored with the last play of the game to make a respectable 3-1 victory to City. It was also worth noting that it was only after the game that City noticed that they had a man extra throughout the game - they thought they were just working hard off the ball to create the extra man!

W (3-0) 04/02/2017 - M7 vs IES 6 (A / L) AN UNEXPECTED VICTORY |

MENS 7TH XI - 04/02/2017 VS IES 6 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: An unexpected victory LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE: IPSWICH SCHOOL SPORTS CENTRE RESULT: IES 6 0 NORWICH CITY 7 3 REPORT: With four call-offs on Friday and Saturday the 7's were indebted to Declan Ordish and Julian Blake for ensuring we were able to take 11 players to Ipswich. Despite having slightly more possession during the first half there were no real clear cut chances and the young IES forwards were not without threat, though again they too weren't able to create real opportunities. City were down to ten on a couple of occasions but were still able to find space, At the break City felt that they had they opportunity to take something from the game and began with renewed vigour. It wasn't long before a foray into the circle resulted in the ball falling free on the left side where winger Ian Ordish was on to it in a flash and lashed the ball home. A second was added with a quick counter attack from a short corner. Paul Hewett saved the short corner shot and Charles Anderson batted the ball away to the half way line where it was then fed quickly to Lee "Late Night Partyer" Allsop alone on the opposition 25 who turned and advanced into the circle. His initial lob was saved by the diving keeper but the ball fell kindly for him to convert the rebound. The scoring was completed when Declan Ordish picked up the ball out side the circle and then beat several defenders before unleashing a well executed reverse stick shot to beat the keeper. A satisfying victory and well needed as the teams immediately above and below also achieved victories.

L (3-4) 05/02/2017 - MC vs Harleston Magpies U14B (H / EH U14 C4) SLICK PENALTY CORNERS NEARLY SALVAGE A DRAW |
---|
COLTS XI - 05/02/2017 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES U14B (H) TEAM: Colts XI DATE: 05/02/2017 FIXTURE: Colts XI VS 05/02/2017 HEADLINE: Slick penalty corners nearly salvage a draw LEAGUE: EHA U14 Boys cup VENUE: Taverham RESULT: NCHC 3-4 Magpies REPORT: City chose to play a 1-2-3-3-2 formation to pack the midfield and nullify a Magpies team that had scored 21 goals in their previous 3 games. Whilst this meant the two forwards (in particular Freddie Paterson and Richie Mann) did a lot of sometimes unrewarded running it did mean City were able to compete and for large periods of the game dominate possession. After a positive start by the home team with Max Merron and Louis Hart looking dangerous in midfield it was a little against the run of play when Magpies took the lead through a penalty corner after about 10 minutes. Five minutes later a neat move saw the visitors' lead extended at which point the home team rather than crumble really stood up to the plate and took the game to Magpies. A tactical switch, moving Rio Iaccarino from defence to midfield added solidity and dynamism as the Hart, Merron, Iaccarino and Elliot Fox combination started to dominate the centre of the pitch. Whilst Iaccarino, Merron and Hart in particular combined endeavour with delightful stick work it was man of the match Fox whose reading of the game and simple passing really got the home side ticking. City reduced the arrears just before half time thanks to a pre planned penalty corner move that allowed Rio Iaccarino to score. The second half saw both teams play some excellent attacking and defending hockey. Cameron Husband and Reuben Cooke were awesome in defence with Ethan Rushton making some crucial saves it was again a bit frustrating that Magpies should restore their two goal cushion with 20 minutes remaining. However, just as in the first half, this seemed to galvanise the home team with some flowing moves down both flanks driven by Iaccarino, Hart and Fox. City's second penalty corner was again clinical, a slip to Fox and a calm finish into the bottom corner. 3-2 and game on. With City pushing for the equaliser, a swift Magpies counterattack saw the goal of the game - Jude charged down the inside right channel and nailed his shot into the roof of the net. City responded immediately and having forced a penalty corner made it three out of three thanks to a Hart dummy and fierce strike. 4-3. As City pressed for the equaliser they eventually ran out of time. All the City players worked tirelessly, often out of their preferred positions, and can justly be proud of their performances. A great game, a dramatic finale and a fine advertisement for youth hockey. The City heroes were: Ethan Rushton (GK), Rio Iaccarino, Cameron Husband, Reuben Cooke, Joseph Roy, Elliot Fox, Monty Platt, Max Merron, Louis Hart, Jonty Black, Freddie Paterson, Richie Mann, Robert McCall and Rocco Iaccarino.

W (3-1) 05/02/2017 - MC vs Lindum U18B (A / EH U18 C4) CITY U18 BOYS INTO QUARTER FINALS OF EH U18 BOYS NATIONAL PLATE COMPETITION BEATING LINDUM 3-1 AWAY IN LINCOLN |
---|
COLTS XI - 05/02/2017 VS LINDUM U18B (A) TEAM: Colts XI DATE: 05/02/2017 FIXTURE: Colts XI VS 05/02/2017 HEADLINE: City U18 Boys into Quarter Finals of EH U18 Boys National Plate Competition beating Lindum 3-1 away in Lincoln COMPETITION: EH U18 Boys National Plate VENUE: Lindum HC, Lincoln RESULT: City 3, Lindum 1 REPORT: On the 5th of February, Norwich City U18's travelled to Lindum in the last 16 of the plate competition where both teams were competitive throughout, Lindum with the edge in the first 10 minutes, however Norwich had some good opportunities on the break, Ross Pitcher with a lovely chip which just cleared the bar. As the play opened up Norwich were capitalising on some wide weaknesses from Lindum with some good balls into the D, Norwich finally got the breakthrough as we came to half time with the finish from Alfie on the p-spot. As the second half commenced Norwich doubled their lead with a great deflection from Will Kidner. As we approached the last 20 minutes Lindum got one goal back from a lovely deflection past Jake's left shoulder, however, Norwich got a third from a pin point slap into the D from Fred Anthony which left Alfie with a tap in. Norwich had good structure throughout the game and kept it until the final whistle overall a good team performance, also we wish Ali recovers soon from his blow to the face. Final Score 3-1 We all wish Ali Husband a speedy recovery after taking the ball in the mouth during the game and having to whizz off to A&E in Lincoln. Finally, thanks to Pies and Frosty and all the parents for driving. Report provided by POTM, Alfie Cooper.
