WOMENS 1ST XI - 04/01/2020 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: Pre Season LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 4-2 REPORT: Following a busy and no doubt delicious Christmas , both City teams return to the pitch with energy and enthusiasm for the season ahead! A positive start for both sides but ‘the harder the angle the easier the shot’ Krystal Bishop finds the back of the net for City 1s, putting them 1-0 up. Continued determination by both teams with excellent distribution from midfields Georgia Cleveland and Helen Busfield for City’s two’s and Ellie Brine and Lucy Tilbrooke for City’s ones kept both teams working hard. Going into half time City 1s were 2-1 up, making it 3-1 thanks to Olivia Williams not long into to the second half. This did not deter City 2s who shortly responded bringing it to 3-2 and although legs were tiring, driving forward from Harriet Johnson and Jo Staines found forward Stacey Lee who scored her second goal of the match. A final score of 4-2 to City 1s but a super effort from both teams after the Christmas break.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 04/01/2020 VS FRIENDLY TBC (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: Dusting off the cobwebs FRIENDLY W1 V W2 VENUE: TRF RESULT: 4-2 Loss REPORT: The womens 2nd had a great game against the 1st team. The game started off with a bit of confusion but we played well, unfortunately the 1st team scored a great goal early on, we then came back with a brilliant shot into the corner of the goal from a short corner by Leigh-Ann Worrall. The first team came back hard and scored another goal and a third almost on the stroke of half time. In the 3rd quarter we really stepped up our game and played some amazing hockey with some great passing from Helen Busfield and some silky skills from Niamh Campbell. Rosie Ringer then scored an absolutely cracking goal straight into the top of the goal mirroring her air diagram she drew of where she was going to score when she returned from the bench. The first team played well and scored another goal leaving the end score at 2-4.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 04/01/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: First game back LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 2-6 (loss) REPORT: City 3s hosted Magpies 4s in the first post-Christmas league game of 2020. It was a tough fixture and City started slow, feeling the strain against a very competent Magpies team, who scored four goals in the first half. To City's credit they came out of half time with gritted teeth, and some great play was seen by the likes of Emily Leeming, player of the match, and Liv Greenway. It was within just four minutes of the second half that Emily Greenway got City on the scoreboard. Marie Hood then followed up with a second goal, which really got City going. But the visitors had other plans and scored two more themselves, finishing off the scoring at 2-6 to Magpies.

WOMENS 4TH XI - 04/01/2020 VS REEPHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: First game back after christmas LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 4-2 to Reepham REPORT: The 4s took on Reepham in an attempt to burn off the Christmas pudding and walk away with some valuable points. City started strongly, passing the ball quickly which culminated in many chances in front of goal. Despite a premature goal celebration indicating otherwise, city were unable to put their chances away. Reepham were 2-0 up when the half time whistle blew. A strong team talk from captain Emily Williams saw a more motivated team return to the pitch for the second half. Reepham put the pressure on City's defence for the first 15mins of the first half and scored from a short corner. Despite some valient defending, Reepham were awarded a penalty flick which was swiftly converted leaving City 4-0 down with about 15 minutes to go. However, City were not going to go down without a fight and two perfectly weighted throughballs from Sue Tomlinson and Emily Williams were pounced on and slotted home before the final whistle blew by Lauren Lawrie, 4-2. Player of the match to Lauren Lawrie for great goals, speed and positioning

WOMENS 7TH XI - 04/01/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 8 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: A Tough But Enjoyable Game To Start The Year! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 3-3 REPORT: A trip to Harleston Magpies on a cold January morning felt like a shock to the system after the Christmas break but City 7s started the game the stronger team. Some excellent runs from midfield and strong balls through to the forwards resulted in City putting a lot of pressure on the Magpies defence. Some great movement of the ball resulted in a fantastic pass from Sarah Smith to Sarah Bird in the D who slotted the ball past the keeper to put City 7s 1-0 up. This spurred Magpies on and they upped their game, scoring an equaliser just before half time. City started the second half the stronger team again and Emily Robertshaw and Alex Woods scored two goals in quick succession to give City the lead. Unfortunately, as City tired, Magpies upped their game again and scored two more goals bringing the scores level at 3-3. A tough but enjoyable game was a great start to the New Year and a very positive performance from City 7s was great to see. POTM Sarah Smith closely followed by Lauren O'Hanlon who had a fantastic debut game.

L (2-5) 04/01/2020 - M2 vs Norwich City 3 (H / F) MINCE PIES RUN OFF |

MENS 2ND XI - 04/01/2020 VS NORWICH CITY 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: Mince pies run off REPORT: Friendly VENUE: TRF RESULT: lots of goals REPORT: (Any connection with events that really took place at TRF is purely coincidental as the report has been ‘created’ by chief organiser but absentee, SB.) On a sunny if cool January morn, an eclectic selection of players roughly representing the 2s/3s/4s and 5s collaborated to produce an entertaining spectacle for the throngs, ney, hoards of spectators. The team, loosely called the seconds (no intended connection with servings of food over the festive period), started strongly with Jonty Black and Boycie ‘on fire’ despite the lack of brandy or Christmas pud! They deservedly took a 2-0 lead into the half time break courtesy of a delicious Boycie reverse stick shot and a penalty corner from the same player. Some imaginative reorganisation from the team loosely called the thirds (obvious connection to festive intake 😁) at half time saw them emerge the stronger and better organised side in the second half. A hat trick for Silvie (including an imaginative penalty corner variation....great control Pies) plus goals for Freddie Paterson and David Fletcher. With such a star studded cast it is hard to call out all the great performances but Rio Iaccarino caught the eye, as did young Seb Kimber in goal and not so young Frosty. Thanks everybody for your great club ‘family’ ethos.
