L (2-3) 02/03/2019 - W1 vs Broxbourne 1 (A / L) AN INTENSE AND UNLUCKY FINAL FIVE MINUTES FOR CITY 1S |

WOMENS 1ST XI - 02/03/2019 VS BROXBOURNE 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: An intense and unlucky final five minutes for City 1s LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: City started strong with multiple attacks on goal from forwards Olivia Williams and Emily Francis but near misses and saves from Broxbourne’s keeper kept the score to 0-0. End to end play meant the midfield had to work tirelessly and with only 12 players (a smaller squad than usual) city began to tire. A scuffle in the D and Broxbourne sneaked the ball over the line, score 0-1. Great tackles from Suzy Edwards and Fongy Chung at the back gave city a counter attack and a quick through ball into the D from Ellie Brine set up Krystal Bishop for her first goal with a great shot into the far corner of the goal. Just before half time City conceded a short corner which led to a run of countless more, but amazing tackles from Kathy Sinnamon and Jo Staines kept the score to 1-1 at half time. City were raring to go following a positive team talk. After expecting this to be a tough game against a team battling for promotion, City were on top form. Midfielders Alice Gill and Hannah Jarvis made great runs creating multiple chances but City struggled to get past Broxbourne’s solid defence. Finally a great run up the wing from Olivia Williams and a slick ball through to Krystal gave City another chance. A hit towards goal from Krystal and an unlucky deflection from the oppositions defender, city were up 2-1. With less than 7 minutes to go Norwich needed to keep calm, however panic kicked in and led to another never ending run of short corners. Numerous tackles from Harriet Johnson and an eternity of excellent saves from Mikayla Mae Glover stopped Broxbourne’s shots, but City struggled to get the ball out. Finally the opposition scored their second goal from one of their many short corners bringing the match back to a draw. Now 2 minutes to go and City remained unsettled. The pressure was building and with a sneaky interception and counter attack from Broxbourne, the opposition scored in the final move of the game. Unfortunate result but a great team performance against a tough opposition.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 02/03/2019 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: Hobden hat-trick LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 0-6 (win) REPORT: Storm Freya may have shown its face midway through the match between the 3rd teams of Dereham and Norwich City but the former were blown away by the pace and finesse shown by the visiting Norwich City womens. With player of the match Niamh Campbell running behind the Dereham defence a number of chances and short corners were created in the opening half. Captain Kim Lusher sweetly struck a short corner beyond the young but impressive Dereham keeper to open the scoring. Ellie Hobden skilfully deflected a Niamh shot into the side netting, before Holly Totten finished off a goal-mouth scramble with a hard flick onto the backboard. Not content with just two career goals Kim fired home another short corner and promptly ran off celebrating to the half way line at the pace of Usain Bolt. The second half saw Dereham competing more strongly in the midfield but with Marie Hood and Emma Richardson marshalling the defence it allowed Heather Tasker and Jenny Stangham to conduct a foray of attacks down the wings. A great series of passes between Heather, Niamh and Marie saw Ellie score her second and Norwich’s fifth with a lovely reverse stick finish. With a short corner awarded at the final whistle Ellie completed her hat trick via another deflection from Emma’s initial shot. Final score was an impressive six goals for the City visitors.

L (0-5) 02/03/2019 - W6 vs Pelicans 3 (H / L) SCORELINE DOESN'T REFLECT CITY'S PERFORMANCE FOR MOST OF MATCH |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 02/03/2019 VS PELICANS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: Scoreline doesn't reflect City's performance for most of match LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:0-5 REPORT: City conceded an early unlucky goal but managed to hold off a strong Pelican's team through the first half and went into the break just one nil down. The home team came out fighting and determined to keep Pelicans at bay and score one back - a strategy which appeared to be working as Pelicans failed to find the net and City had lots of play in the offensive D and several short corners. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the equaliser although it felt as if the game could turn at any minute as City began to push forward. However, towards the end of the second half, City momentarily lost their shape and rhythm for a crucial five minutes - and paid the price. A youthful Pelicans took full advantage and hammered in four goals in quick succession, leaving a disheartened City unable to pull the scoreline back.

MENS 1ST XI - 02/03/2019 VS LETCHWORTH 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: Vital win for Norwich City LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: Norwich City Men’s 1st team faced fellow league strugglers Letchworth in a bid for Premier A safety at TRF. With the corresponding game finishing at dramatic 4-3 to City it was expected to be a entertaining fixture with both sides knowing what was at stake. City looked the better side in the first half, creating a couple of opportunities leading to short corners however Letchworth came with the game plan of a half court press to stop and frustrate any of the free flowing hockey City had been playing over previous weeks. Midway through the first half a quick thinking counter attack led by captain Louis Preston who burst through the middle of the pitch creating a 3 on 1 calmly passed to Josh Bailey at the top left of the D, who pulled the keeper out and spotted the unmarked Chris Wardale who comfortably converted the ball into the back of the net to give City a deserving lead over their opponents and give them a 1-0 lead at half time. The second half was a superb team effort to hold out the advances of Letchworth. Norwich keen to hold onto their one goal advantage with the back five led by Cooke and Man of the Match Brown remaining firm and thwarting any opportunities created by Letchworth. The only scare was a Letchworth short corner which was deflected by a City player and turned away from behind his own back by keeper Alistair Cooke in goal. The game finishing 1-0 to City giving them now an 8 point cushion over Saffron Walden an the bottom of the table with 4 games remaining.

The match became exactly as described, lots of ball chasing and counter play against a very organized young uni team. A last gasp goal from Jeremy Elliot switched momentum city’s way for the last 5 minutes, chances came and went to secure a win for city with uni playing kicking back in the dying minutes. The draw was more than satisfactory and will aid drinking performance by the team for the end of season sesh tonight . Thank you everyone for this seasons hard work and commitment. L (2-6) 02/03/2019 - M3 vs Cambridge South 1 (A / L) A GAME OF TWO HALVES...AGAIN |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 02/03/2019 VS CAMBRIDGE SOUTH 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: A game of two halves...again LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Long Road Sixth Form Cambridge RESULT: 6-2 loss REPORT: With a bare 11 City travelled to Cambridge for the second time this season, but this time they had a keeper! Cambridge started strong and City were under a lot of pressure, and struggled to get the ball out of their half. Obviously Cambridge were determined to better the draw result that occurred earlier on in the season. Despite the noble effort of Rees Leonard and Simon Black in the centre at the back, Cambridge managed to break through and scored a few goals. There wasn't much keeper Luke Elwes could do when Cambridge had overloaded the D and passed the ball around the defence. 5-0 down at half time. City kept their heads up going into the second half, but as the teams were returning to the pitch, Simon Black was making his way off it again with a back injury. Perhaps City were always destined to play with 10 players this game... However, within 2 minutes of starting the second half, City had scored. Strong play by Cameron Husband down the right, led to a ball shooting across the D to the waiting Dan Jeffers, who smacked the ball in the Cambridge goal. (Perhaps Simon should have a break a little more often!) City kept up their pressure and Jonty Black was causing all kinds of problems in the middle of the pitch. Matthew Brine led from the front and certainly gave the Cambridge defence cause to worry, but unfortunately on this occasion was unable to convert chances. The work rate of City was excellent the second half, and this was epitomised by Nick Hooper who appeared everywhere. As always, Lloyd Sayer and Tobias Leonard held the middle and linked up nicely with the forwards. Keeper Luke Elwes deservedly earned his Man of the Match award, making some crucial saves to keep City in with a chance of winning the second half, with one even deflecting off the crossbar. With tiring legs, City let Cambridge score another, however City weren't finished yet. A string of successive short corners, resulted in Rees Leonard scoring a fine drag flick making the second half 2-1 to City. The final 5 minutes saw Captain Adam Sayer have a sit on the Naughty Step after the ball hit his foot when a Cambridge player would otherwise have been free on goal, and a last minute short corner for Cambridge was well defended by City to leave the final score at 6-2 to Cambridge. Well done to all those players who travelled and played in the Cambridge sunshine. Big thanks to nick Hooper whose appearance ensured City had the 11 players needed to play. MOM: Luke Elwes TYFC: Captain Adam Sayer

W (5-2) 02/03/2019 - M4 vs I-ES 4 (H / L) FREE SCORING CITY 4'S HIT FIVE AGAIN |

MENS 4TH XI - 02/03/2019 VS I-ES 4 (H) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: Free Scoring City 4's Hit Five Again LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Won 5-2 REPORT: City’s high flying 4th XI, fully refreshed after a week off, crossed the white line once more to play Ipswich & East Suffolk 4’s. The weather had turned dull and cold, and City started in a similar vein, struggling to find their feet on their bouncier H2O home pitch. Defences dominated, with City’s experienced central partnership of Ingham & Saran proving almost impossible to beat and IES equally so. Five, ten, even fifteen minutes went by before the cobwebs had disappeared and City’s fast flowing hockey returned once more. City were first to break the deadlock when an in form Perry penalty corner strike went past the unsighted IES keeper’s left pad, 1-0 Confidence immediately appeared to surge through the whole City side and they quickly moved through the gears with IES seemingly powerless to respond. City soon doubled their advantage when MOTM Ingham dispossessed an IES forward and promptly found Pyatt from range. He in turn found Perry down the right hand side who squared the ball for Land to coolly slot into an open goal, 2-0 City were on fire now and the watching 1st XI were obviously in fear of their places! Harris played a quick right side-line hit to speed merchant Harry who used Perry to skip through the IES midfield. Taking the return pass into the final third, his diagonal ball found Corden unmarked at the far post who gave the keeper no chance to score the best goal of the game, 3-0 Still with half time to come City scored again, this time from another penalty corner. Perry received at the top, danced round a couple of helpless defenders and pushed the ball past the advancing keeper. 4-0 After the break, IES seemed determined to compete forcing the inside forwards of Harry & Tomkinson, and Midfield General Roy to at last break sweat! However, City were not done and a quick break found hat-trick hunting Perry in the ‘D’, his shot beating the keeper but not the last defender’s foot on the line. Umpire Gallop (eventually) correctly signalled for a penalty stroke and up stepped Captain Ingham. At this point it’s worth pointing out that Ingham plays at the back for a reason, has not scored for about ten years and fully expects this run to continue. His ‘attempt’ sadly found the keeper’s left foot and he trudged disappointingly back to his rightful place at the back. The game got a little more interesting then as IES gained in confidence. Two goals followed. The first a bouncing pass into the ‘D’ that everyone missed except the IES striker, 4-1. The second I can’t remember, but at least I’m being honest! 4-2 One last flurry from City and Perry at last got his deserved hat-trick. This time it was another penalty corner and Land’s cross shot to Corden was saved by the keeper. The rebound fell straight to Perry who doesn’t miss from there, 5-2 That makes it seven wins in a row since losing 2-0 to leaders Pelicans at the beginning of December
