WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/12/2018 VS EVERGREENS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: Ten in a row LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams (away) RESULT: 0-6 (win) REPORT: Norwich City women's 3s had an early start on Saturday as they met Evergreens 1s away at Greshams. Throughout the match, City were the dominant team - they kept control of the ball and constantly broke through the opposition’s defence. Holly Robinson opened the scoring and Olivia Greenway followed with a second, also impressive, goal to make it 0-2 at half time. City started the second half confident that they would increase the scoreline, and put on an excellent attacking display with many shots on goal. Olivia Greenway converted two of these and with that secured herself a very well-deserved hat trick. Player of the match Kate Houldey was on hand to support the forwards, help set them up and keep the momentum going. Next was Niamh Campbell who, showing skillfull attacking play throughout the game, scored a powerful hit and carried on City’s quick succession of goals. Holly Robinson scored her second and the team’s final goal, securing a 6-0 victory and continuing the 3’s phenomenal 10 match winning streak.

WOMENS 4TH XI - 01/12/2018 VS BROADLAND 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: A point at last! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2-2 draw REPORT: City 4s have been struggling to get the desired results this season despite some good performances. This week saw City play Broadland 2s who weren't too far ahead in the bottom half of the table so City knew they had to put their all in to get something from this game. Unfortunately, after a strong start from City, things didn't go to plan when they went one nill down in the first half. The team stayed positive and got back into the game with a goal from Flo Duffield. Half time came around and City's goal keeper Anna Linsmith had some upbeat words of encouragement for the team to give them the boost that they needed going into the second half. Yet again City ended up going behind not long after the restart but with those wise words from half time still in the back of their minds they did not give up. Abi Flatt got City's second goal to bring score level again. The closing minutes of the game were some nerve-racking ones, especially for the spectators but City held Broadland to a draw to secure the well needed point. Congratulations to Emily Leeming who was awarded player of the match for some fantastic runs up the right wing and along the back line, creating numerous opportunities for the rest of the team.

MENS 2ND XI - 01/12/2018 VS CAMBRIDGE UNI 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: Sluggish start cost Norwich City 2XI again LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 VENUE: Cambridge University Sports Club RESULT: Cambridge University 2XI: 4 Norwich City 2XI: 1 REPORT: Cambridge University 2XI started strongly giving the Norwich City players very little time on the ball. This pressure resulted in Norwich City giving the ball away too easily, with Cambridge University capitalising with two quick goals, which Norwich City will feel could have been avoided. After going down two-nil, Norwich City started to come into the game, with improved ball retention and some slick passing. Richard Sylvester received the ball on the right wing and managed to turn the defender who‘s subsequent stick tackle resulted in a Norwich City free hit just outside the Cambridge University D. A quick pass to Crichton resulted in a ball into the D which came off a defenders foot. Surprisingly the umpire played advantage after a weak shot from Hindle. With everyone looking at the umpire, the ball came back to Perry who was able to find a pass back to Hindle, 5 yards out from goal. With a great first touch, Hindle was then able to play a deft flick over the keeper, to bring the score to 2-1. Spurred on by this, Norwich City continued to play some good hockey, with the game being in the balance as the half time whistle went. Unfortunately Norwich City were unable to make the most of the momentum gained at the end of the first half. Cambridge University scored a slick goal soon after half-time when they overloaded the right hand side of pitch after a missed Norwich City tackle. Whilst the Norwich City defence scrambled, some one touch passing resulted in the ball going from the by-line to an unmarked attacker on the penalty flick spot, who was able to finish in the corner passed the dive of Millett. Despite being two goals down, Norwich City continued to play some good hockey and were rewarded with an number of short corners after some good work from Fletcher and Cooke. Unfortunately Norwich City were unable to reduce the deficit, with some slightly wasteful finishing. With 10 minutes to go Cambridge University made the game safe when a cross from the right by line came off a Perry foot. With the ball looking to loop over the bar to safety, an outstretched stick from a Cambridge University forward, slapped the ball into the top of the net. Overall Norwich City will feel that a slightly sluggish start ultimately cost them, and despite being up against a well organised and hard working Cambridge University side, an opportunity was missed.

L (2-3) 01/12/2018 - M3 vs Kettering 1 (H / L) CHANCES NOT TAKEN PUNISH CITY |

MENS 3RD XI - 01/12/2018 VS KETTERING 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: Chances not taken punish City LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-2 loss REPORT: With yet again a different line up, City played at home to Kettering in a game where they hoped to at least get a point. City started well and put pressure on Kettering early and half way through the first half were rewarded with a goal for Ross Butler. Kettering put together some quick attacks and the City defence had to work hard to keep track of the ever switching Kettering forward line. One forward manage to round keeper Luke Ewles and it was a goal line save by Adam Sayer that kept Kettering from equalising. Halftime and once again City found themselves leading, as they had the previous 3 weeks, could they hold the lead.... The second half saw City have possession early on and here is where we enter the realm of "What if.." In the space of 10 minutes, City had 3 good chances of scoring, all of which they failed to put away. A couple of short corners also were not converted. With the potential match-killing chances squandered, Kettering pushed for a goal and equalised from a short corner. They then took the lead from poor marking at the back, allowing a forward to get behind the defence. City fought back and Ben Withers managed to score a lovely reverse stick shot to bring the scores level again. A short corner for Kettering resulted in them scoring once again. City scrambled for a late equaliser, but it wasn't to be. Another game, another half time lead, another match given away in the second half. Despite periods of excellent play and a fantastic work rate from City, it was hard not to feel frustrated at the final result. Next week City play Peterborough and hope to improve on their 3-1 loss earlier in the season. POM: Adam Sayer - Goal line save TYFC: Rees Leonard - Goal line miss

L (0-2) 01/12/2018 - M4 vs Pelicans 2 (H / L) TAKEN OUT BY THE PROFESSIONALS |

MENS 4TH XI - 01/12/2018 VS PELICANS 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: Taken out by The Professionals LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham Recreational Facility RESULT: Lost 0-2 REPORT: Don’t think I mean CI5 with their sheepskin coats and a penchant for Capris (since we had no less than three George Cowleys - in Black Snr., Ingham Snr & Roy Snr - on our team) – don’t think stiletto wearing, fur coat toting types either, though they did bring handbags. No, this professional Pelican team brought a steely set of organisational structures with overloads and outlets and handed us the bill. These were the Quantity Surveyors of the game with their theodolites and plumb bobs: we’d be better to bring hard hats and prepare to dig in, if we want to prevail against such built teams: we need to get professional too and channel our inner Brickies. The warm up was amicable enough (Mr Hyatt didn’t feel the need to turn up till pushback and he was spot on as normal touching the ball thrice in the game). Then we pushed off, and the hard manners of our west county boys were soon in evidence with the old rib ticklers and shin crackers for those with the temerity to pluck the ball from their grasp. Pelicans pressed high and if the assured and composed Jaguar and Patella found an outlet then the amazing Circuitry, Landrover and Black inc. were soon behind them but sometimes we coughed and the counter was quick though only a couple clinical enough to get past the classy Jewellers in pads merrily sending one over the fence to give us codgers a breath or two. If the first half was spirited the second less so as the older legs creaked and mobility possibly lessened - though it is difficult to tell without oxygen. One favourite moment saw Nathan dribble from the 22 and around the back of the D playing numerous one-twos with Pelicans’ flat sticks always returning it to his open side as if they knew it was his birthday (Many happy returns Nathan!). Sadly no goal would come and even shorties began to let us down unbelievably bobbling gazelle-like past stick stoppers and surprise back-ups alike (albeit while Mr Hyatt drew on his pipe). The final blow came flying to our youngest. Though thankfully no long term damage was done to Jonty it dented perhaps the belief and the spirit of the right hand attack which, through Cam and Jonty, had shown great promise and ambition and whose triangles will hopefully be rejoined by Alex next time out, hard hats or not.

MENS 5TH XI - 01/12/2018 VS WATTON 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: Does the sun ever shine in Watton? LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Watton Sports Centre RESULT: 4-1 Loss REPORT: Norwich city started well and just minutes after the starting whistle Charles with his first touch of the match struct a beautiful ball on a very tight angle to the top on the net, 1-0 at this point Norwich really needed to keep the pressure up. Unfortunately, Watton upped their tempo and pulled a goal back. With a very slow pitch Norwich struggled to pass the ball around fast enough and this allowed Watton to score another 2 goals, 3-1 at half time. The half time team talk from Joe and Ali tried to put a little fire in the bellies of the deflated 5th team and at the start of the second half we tried to fight our way back with some good aerials from Paul Kassulke trying to pick out our youthful players up front, Freddie, Rob and Ed in the middle of the field, but to no avail. A comment also goes out to the strong back line made up of Grocer, Paul, Al, James and superb Rueben for the sterling job holding up the Watton strikers. Final score 4-1. Being the writer of this sorry story, I couldn’t finish without adding a note about the TOTALLY unfair green card, all I’ve got to say about this event, ‘I was just having a friendly discussion with one of the Watton team’, from my recollection his name started with a ‘W’ or thats what he got called afterwards!, joking a side we should all remember its a game and should be played ALWAYS in a sporting and friendly manner and this should be encouraged in the youth of the team (mental note to self..) I would like to say ‘and everyone lived happily ever after….’ Lets just say the rematch at home after xmas will be interesting. Report credit: Mark Bailey (TYFC)

MENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 01/12/2018 VS DEREHAM (H) TEAM: Mens Development XI DATE: 01/12/2018 FIXTURE: Mens Development XI VS 01/12/2018 HEADLINE: Depleted and Young City Side overcome local rivals Dereham LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 4-1 Win REPORT: With only a bare 11 available and a lot of Under 12s playing City were up against it from the start with Dereham playing 2 adults and a few senior boys. After a 0-0 draw in the first quarter, coaches Patel and Ling erged the boys to move the ball on quicker and cut out any uncessary dribbling. City improved in the 2nd half and scored one of the best team goals I have seen this season with Matt Roy, Krishna Patel and Ed Beake combining on the left to release young James Mackenzie down the left hand side to cut into the D and set up Corey Rushton for a simple deflected finish. HT 1-0 Into the 2nd half and City continued to move the ball much better and started to use the right hand side more with Sam Hancock, Louis Miller and Corey Rushton combing well down the right, the latter set up the 2nd goal as his cross found an unmarked James Mackenzie who rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. Into the final quarter and City kept up the passing and in turn created chances, City started to win more penalty corners as well with Krishna Patel firing a low shot into the goal for the third goal and in turn his dragflick was saved by the Dereham keeper before Rushton got his 2nd goal on the rebound to make it 4-0. Dereham did get a consolation goal in the final couple of minutes with a deflected short corner effort. There were also good performances from Harvey Nkrumah and Ellis Byland-Brooks who were solid at the back, as well as Seb Kimber who made some great saves in the City goal. Alfie Sharp also playing his third match made some good tackles in the forward line. Full Time 4-1 and a good performance from the Boys.
