W (3-1) 01/10/2022 - W1 vs Cambridge City 2 (H / L) SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 01/10/2022 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Second win of the season LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: Following our first win of the season, we were keen to get another win under our belts. After the push back went off our back line which wasn’t the ideal start we were after, we quickly got it together and a couple of minutes later scored our first goal through Krystal who had a 1 on 1 and she went around the keeper and slotted our first goal in. We were playing Brilliant passing hockey which were creating lots of opportunities and unfortunate not to get another goal. Cambridge caught us on a break and won a couple of short corners and one managed to get through keeper Georgina’s legs. Keeping Spirts high we carried on playing the hockey we want to play and our press was working brilliantly leaving Cambridges’ back line with very few options. Drawing closer to half time we kept the pressure up and Cambridge had a 16 and we turned the ball over in the 23 and through a lovely cross ball from Olivia Williams who found Krystal Bishop who touched the ball in the goal. After a half time talk from Coach Pies and Thomas we were eager to continue playing the hockey we were playing. With Cambridges’ defence upping we continued to work hard. Later during the second half we won a short corner which Olivia Williams slid the ball towards goal and Hanna Hall got a touch which roofed the ball to the top of the net. Overall a good, positive game and we focus on Cambridge Uni next week.

L (1-2) 01/10/2022 - W2 vs Dereham 1 (A / L) RELEGATION VS PROMOTION |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 01/10/2022 VS DEREHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Relegation Vs Promotion LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dereham RESULT:2-1 Loss REPORT: The womens 2s had a tough game on Saturday against a side which was 2 leagues above them only a few months ago. City started strong and managed to have a couple of early attacks. However Dereham came back hard and strong with many attacks in and around the D, the defensive halfs Uma, Lucy and Leigh-Ann held strong whilst captain Georgia and Libby controlled the midline. However Dereham managed to get through requiring POTM Summer to make some saves. Despite city's best defensive efforts, Dereham managed to sneak 2 goals past City (although a questionable short corner led to a goal). City went into half-time needing to regroup, Tapin and Emma rallied the team reminding them to make easy passes, use the wing and make the leads up front. City were raring to go in the second half and started strongly, there was some lovely link up play between inners Helen, Lauren and Emily, whilst triangles were created using Alice and Milly in the middle. Starting from the back and connecting every line of play, City scored a beautiful goal, a cool and calm Grace took on the keeper in the D and 'grace'fully played the ball around her and into the goal! City had started their come-back and were raring fo go, but not before Dereham had a few more attacks (not just playing attacks but physical attacks too...) requiring Summer to make even more saves including a couple of short corner drag flicks which she shook off like nothing. City were playing hard and in it to win it, the midfield playing the ball to forwards Sophie and Charlie who desperately tried to put the ball in the goal but with little avail. As City tried with all their might to score in the final minutes (by winning a penalty flick which was never given) luck was not on their side and the game finished in a 2-1 loss. City may have finished with a loss, 2 broken fingers, a steri-stripped eye, an injured hip, a green card, and a disallowed goal but they won the moral battle, their spirits remain high, and look forward to their upcoming game against Spalding.

L (0-2) 01/10/2022 - W3 vs North Norfolk 1 (H / L) A BRIGHT AND EARLY PUSHBACK! |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/10/2022 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: A bright and early pushback! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-2 REPORT: The home side went on the attack from the first whistle, drawing several short corners from the North Norfolk defence. North Norfolk were dangerous at their breaks, which turned out to be rewarding for them in the 2nd half. Good interplay between El, Gillian & Hollie in mid, but NCHC still couldn’t convert our chances & both teams went in goalless at half time! The second half saw NCHC increase the tempo with Lucy providing dangerous play down the right & Ange creating inroads into the North N. Defence from the middle. As NCHC pushed forward in search of the opening goal, we got caught on the breakaway with N.N taking the lead much against the run of play! NCHC then laid siege with a flurry of short corners & missed opportunities unfortunately. However it was not to be our day as N.N broke away in the dying minutes to snatch a 2nd goal. This was such a spirited performance from our super 3rd team, it will only be a matter of time before they start to pick up points - POTM went to India Fox (many thanks).

D (1-1) 01/10/2022 - W4 vs Norwich Dragons 5 (A / L) WELL FOUGHT MATCH |
---|
WOMENS 4TH XI - 01/10/2022 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Well fought match LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE:Dragons Den RESULT:1-1 REPORT: Match report After an early start, the 4’s had a tough game against Dragons 5s. Karen Hobden, Emily Winter and Susan Mathews worked well together in defence, keeping the ball out wide and closing down the speedy dragons players. At half time Dragons were leading 1-0, and were a force to be reckoned with, with their quick triangle passes and overloads. However, after half time and a motivating team talk from Carey Briggs, City came back fighting and we had a number of chances in the D. Evie Brockington made some great runs up the pitch and accurately passed to mum Helen Brockington who was patiently waiting up front. The Dragons goalie dived to the floor, allowing Helen to sneak it past her into the goal. This brought the final score to 1-1.

L (0-1) 01/10/2022 - W5 vs Norwich Dragons 4 (H / L) NORWICH CITY LADIES 5’S VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4’S |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 01/10/2022 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Norwich city womens 5’s Vs Norwich dragons 4’s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE:Taverham hockey club RESULT:0-1 REPORT: City 5’s v Dragons 4’s Staring with a new formation, city were on the back foot from the start against a well organised Dragons side. Our defensive team of Ali, Netty and Emma stood strong and we weathered an early onslaught of short corners. The only goal of the half came from a turnover and quick break from Dragons which was the only time they caught us unaware and converted an overload chance. Some wise words from Ali at half time and we started the second half brightly, Chloe and Marie linking up well in the middle and Esme and Sophia exploiting the wide channels. Unfortunately we were unable to take our chances in attack, and Jo made some great reaction saves to keep us in it at the back but the score ended 0-1. There are many positives to take from the game and this side showed real spirit and work rate throughout. Bring on next week! Player of match Marie Hood

WOMENS 6TH XI - 01/10/2022 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Sheringham High School RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: Womens 6’s played against Sheringham on Saturday on a particularly windy day! Stayed strong throughout the match with 1-1 at halftime, with Mirabelle scoring an excellent goal off the goalkeeper’s initial save. Unfortunately conceded one goal in the final few minutes of the match, resulting in a 2-1 result to Sheringham. However an excellent performance from the defence, both Sam and Ella saving multiple goals, with Ella being POTM for a goal-line save! Well done to everyone who played, a few enjoyed an ice cream on the coast at the end!

L (0-2) 01/10/2022 - W7 vs Broadland 3 (A / L) AN UNLUCKY LOSS FOR CITY` |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 01/10/2022 VS BROADLAND 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: An unlucky loss for city` LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Taverham RESULT: L 0-2 REPORT: After the first loss of the season, city went into this game with the determination to get a win. The team has been training hard pre-season and this really showed in this game. With the possession largely with city for the majority of the game, the team played some excellent hockey with multiple attempts on goal, unfortunately not converting. Unluckily for city a short corner for broadland resulted in the score reverting to 0-1 with 8 minutes to go before the final whistle. Despite an excellent defence and some incredible saves from keeper Amber Macintyre, a second goal was scored by broadland before the final whistle. Despite the loss it was a lovely game for both teams on home turf.

W (7-2) 02/10/2022 - M1 vs Loughborough Town 1 (A / L) M1S FIRST WIN SEE'S THEM CLIMB THE TABLE! |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 02/10/2022 VS LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 02/10/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 02/10/2022 HEADLINE: M1s First Win see's them climb the table! LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: Loughborough University RESULT: 7-2 REPORT: After getting our first points on the board away to Bedford, we had back-to-back away journeys to start with a trip North to Loughborough. With some familiar faces playing for Lougborough we were expecting them to make it tough for us and this was true with both sides threatening at either end to start. After a few near misses, Chris Wardale made it two goals in two games for him after Cam Cooke found him at the back post. 3 minutes later Harry Gill had found Ben Chapman in the D for a deflection and a 2 goal lead. Tom Harris then made a marauding run up the right and found Cam Cooke at the top of the D who reversed in to the bottom right corner for a 3-0 Q1 lead. The 2nd Quarter began much the same as the first with end to end attacks which saw both sides exchanging goals. Norwich City were first to bag through Ben Chapman after Thomas Cooke quickly broke through and found him on the edge of the D and Ben hit the ball sweetly into the near bottom corner. Unfortunately a loose short counter routine later and Loughborough had grabbed one back. After Loughborough looked to get back into the game we came out with the intention to grab back control immediately and Cam Cooke did exactly that. A great team goal was started with a turnover from Jonty Black, finding Tom Cooke inside who gave the ball to Chris Wardale on the baseline who found Cam at the P-Spot who calmly slotted his flick into the roof of the net and we went into the half 5-1 up. The 2nd half started slow as we calmly controlled possession and looked to tire Loughborough out of the game. With minimal attacks against us, we looked on top and made this clear as Pete Morgan picked up the ball in our half and played down the line to Josh Baker and played a glorious reverse into Louis Preston who had busted a lung to run the length of the pitch and took it around the keeper before finishing from the baseline and making it 6-1. Although the restart opened us up to quick comeback with loughborough immediately in our D and a few miscontolled tackles and interceptions later the ball found its way to a town forward who bundled it home to make it 6-2 just before quarter time. The final quarter was much the same with City dominating possession and the attacks to see out the game and with that Cam Cooke completed his Hattrick with a run through their entire defence and 2nd reverse finish of the game to see the final score to 7-2. We have well and truly arrived in national league and with 11 goals through our 1st two games have shown we have some killer potential, currently sitting in 3rd. After a great first 2 results we look to make it points from 3 out of 3 games as we bring national league hockey to Taverham for the first time in it's history this weekend!

L (3-4) 01/10/2022 - M3 vs North Norfolk 1 (A / L) SEVEN GOAL THRILLER |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 01/10/2022 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Seven goal thriller LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Sheringham School RESULT: City 3 - 4 North Norfolk REPORT: City got off to a good start scoring in the first 20 seconds thanks to a good shot by Andy Bell which was followed up by Mark Fletcher. As the half continued North Norfolk continued to attack well and scored two goals including one tap-in following an excellent run by ex City youngster, Austin Kennard (great to see him back of a bad leg break last season) to make it 2-1 at half time. City dominated after the break and justifiably equalized when Fletcher roofed the ball into the net. However City were caught almost immediately after levelling the score when turnover ball gifted North Norfolk a great chance which they gleefully accepted to make it 3-2. City continued to persevere and it was no surprise when the scores were levelled thanks to a good run and cross down the left by Jack Luther that was expertly deflected in to the goal by Oli Millett. As the match entered it's last minutes North Norfolk won the ball and progressed up the pitch to score a deflection in the last minute of the game. Final score 4-3 to North Norfolk in a good spirited evenly contested game. Ed Beake continued his remarkable start to the season just beating Jim Pallister and the excellent Tom Franks to the award for City player of the match (his 4th such award in 6 matches).

L (1-15) 01/10/2022 - M6 vs East Coast 2 (A / L) TOUGH GAME |
---|
MENS 6TH XI - 01/10/2022 VS EAST COAST 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 6th XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 6th XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: Tough game LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE:Lowestoft RESULT:lost 1-15 REPORT:This was always going to be a tough game. We started well with a well worked move which Roger Bushell put past the keeper. Unfortunately things went downhill from there, David Woodward had to go off with a recurring muscle issue, then Jerry Kelly pulled a muscle although he played the rest of the game. At halftime we were 6-1 down, we now only had 8 fit players which included 3 over 70 . We held on quite well for a while but tiredness started to take over and the flood gates opened. Everyone put in a great effort to make a game of it . Callum and Ellis worked really hard in midfield. For his sterling effort in goal Peter Smith was awarded Man of the Match . Hopefully there will be more players about next week.
