LADIES 3RD XI - 25/03/2017 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 25/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 25/03/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: It was the final game of the season for the Norwich City Womens 3rd team who hosted Harleston Womens 4ths on what felt like possibly the warmest day of spring on record! Norwich City had beaten the Harleston team away earlier in the season with a convincing 3-0 win, but Harleston this time put up a decent challenge leaving the score at half time goalless. City 3rds welcomed back Milly Hyatt for her 2nd appearance for us in goal this season and a debut for Ellyn Roberts in midfield, both slotting in seamlessly within the team. Harleston put Norwich under pressure in the second half and as City struggled to get their usual quick and precise passing game together they were unable to contain the pressure with City eventually conceding two goals. However, the result of this concluding match of the season had no bearing on the final league position for City 3rds who now finish 4th in the Empresa Norfolk Premier League with 35 points, 10 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses.

LADIES 3RD XI - 18/03/2017 VS LODDON 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/03/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Loddon RESULT: 5-2 Win REPORT: Norwich City 3rd XI took an early lead in the first 5 minutes with Caroline Illing getting a touch on a strongly injected ball outside the D. Loddon 1s then picked up the pressure, and defended well, but City finished the first half 2-0 up with a strike by Alex Le Mesurier hitting the net. After a rousing half time team talk, City ramped up the effort, and although Loddon came back with 2 goals in the second half City were proving to be the better team putting away 3 further goals, the first from Emily Greenway and the second provided by Jenni Stanghan. Finally, a beautifully worked penalty corner routine in the final few minutes of the game saw Emily Greenway getting a deflection on the right post to put it past the keeper into the top corner. The result leaves Norwich City 3rd XI 4 points clear in 4th place in the Empresa Norfolk Premier League.

LADIES 3RD XI - 11/03/2017 VS BROADLAND 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 11/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 11/03/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-3 L REPORT: A tough match was expected for Norwich City 3rds against top of the table Broadland 1sts. To date Broadland had only lost one match this season to the NCHC Womens 2nds and we knew that Broadland would be feeling the pressure, needing all three points and a good goal difference to stay in with a chance of promotion so the womens 3rds took on the challenge with eagerness and welcomed the Norwich City spectator support which lifted our spirits into the game. Broadland were first out of the blocks, taking an early lead following a quick free hit in the Norwich City 23. However, this did not dampen the hearts of the City 3rds who worked hard defending on the bouncy away pitch. Towards the end of the first half an opportunity opened up for City’s Alex Le Mesurier to take on the defenders and score to bring City back into the game. City were showing their worth at being at the top end of the table and kept the score at 1-1 for some time. The City midfielder’s covered much of the pitch aiming to keep Broadland contained, but despite some lovely movement and skill by Hannah Bush up front coupled with some great opportunities for the forwards, it just wasn’t to be our day and unfortunately, despite some solid defending, were unable to contain the pressure as Broadland scored a further two goals.

LADIES 3RD XI - 04/03/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 04/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 04/03/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: 1-1 DRAW REPORT: The Womens 3's had the home advantage playing against the Dragons 3's who were one place above them in the league. Through the first half Dragons proved to be quite tough, however this did not stop City. They pushed into Dragons half having many shots at goal but Dragon's were defending well. City managed to keep possession through fantastic passes and great skills. Eventually City managed to cross the ball with a reverse sweep into the penalty flick spot were Jennifer Stanghan got a touch on the ball deflected it onto Olivia Greenway who was at left post, and with one sweep it was in the goal and City were 1-0 up going into half time. Determined to keep their lead, City started the second half dominating the game. Again there were many shots on goal but none succeeding and with time ticking away City were beginning to tire. With only 2 minutes left Dragon's managed to get past City's defence and had a shot on goal which came off several players before deflecting into the side netting, despite Milly Hyatt’s best efforts to save it. City were disappointed to have not come away with all 3 points, but were still pleased with a respectable 1-1 draw having put in a very strong team performance. Player of the Match was deservedly awarded to Hannah Bush for her continued work rate and determination.

W (8-0) 25/02/2017 - W3 vs Carrow 1 (A / L) DOUBLE ILLING HAT TRICK (MUM & DAUGHTER) DOMINATES 8 GOAL WINNER |
---|
LADIES 3RD XI - 25/02/2017 VS CARROW 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 25/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 25/02/2017 HEADLINE: Double Illing Hat trick (mum & daughter) dominates 8 goal winner REPORT: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Langley School RESULT: 0-8 REPORT: City travelled to a blustery Langley School with a full squad of 15 ready for a tough game. Carrow had proven to be a difficult side to beat in the past and City were looking to secure the win. City pushed into Carrow's half from the off with opportunities in the circle not quite paying off. Carrow defended well and succeeded in driving the ball hard for a long ball through to a forward to be rewarded with an early penalty corner opportunity. This became a series of several penalty corners each defended well with a shot being saved by City keeper Summer Haylock and cleared wide by defender Kim Lusher. City remained calm and were successful in defending this flurry into their circle without conceding a goal. Waking up to the game, City pushed back to counter hard. Centre Sabina Illing controlled the play and worked well with the backs to move the ball back and around to drive the side line. Great interplay between Emily Greenway and Olivia Broadway created a penalty corner opportunity for City. Sabina Illing stepped up. a smooth injection from Emily Greenway to Illing, a straight strike, finding the backboard on the bottom right. 0-1 Carrow tried to retain possession at the re-start but were harried down by Rachel Gregory who popped the ball free to Hannah Bush on the right wing. Again good movement of the ball to retain possession created opportunities with passes in the circle being missed by only the slightest of touches in the circle, which could have given more goals. City's attack was rewarded with another penalty corner. This time Caroline Illing stepped up. With another smooth injection from Emily Greenway, to Illing, a slip right to Jenny Stanghan, back to Illing for a low strong sweep into the bottom right. 0-2 Carrow were again pressed on the re-start. Credit to them as they pushed hard into the City's half giving City's keeper Summer Haylock cause to react. However the defensive team of Megan Conway and Jenny Brine were confident in their clearance of the danger and movement of the ball out of the 23 to initiate further waves of City attack. The half finished 0-2. City knew they had to step up and play their own game an be first to the ball. Carrow were keen for points and could see that the 2-goal buffer at half time would not be enough for City to sit back. City wanted more. Every member of the team stepped up their game. Great hassling in the centre from Grace Kidner won the ball, out right to Phoebe York who used her skill and speed to drive the line. Looking up as she drove the by-line in the circle York found Caroline Illing stepped ahead of her defender on the p-spot. A perfectly weighted ball in was met with a sweep from Illing, finding the corner of the back board. 0-3 City were now unstoppable. Wave after wave of attack came to be rewarded with another City penalty corner. Sabina Illing stepped up, straight strike another goal. 0-4 From the re-start Carrow were harassed by City forwards and inners. Olivia Broadway chasing the ball down supported by Grace Kidner and a drive into the circle gave a reward of a further penalty corner. This time Caroline Illing stepped up. Again a smooth injection from Emily Greenway to Illing. Illing slipped the ball right to Jenny Stanghan to receive it back behind the defender running 1. A low sweep again finding the corner of the back board. City's routines were working today! 0-5 and a first league hat trick to Caroline Illing. City kept the pressure on from the re-start. Carrow made a play of a long ball into the city half. Calm defending marshalled by Gemma Sargent dampened the attack and the ball was re-started with a long switch through Kim Lusher to Kirsten Aitken on the right. The attack built from the right with Phoebe York again dominating in her line running, passing the ball into space for Hannah Bush to run on to and drive into the circle. The pressure was rewarded with yet another penalty corner. This time Sabina Illing stepped up. Greenway injection to Illing, another straight strike low and powerful. 0-6 another first league hat trick. City were riding high. Sabina Illing in the centre harassed the Carrow attack stealing the ball with a sneaky shave tackle, she turned and drove into the Carrow half. Showing strength, Illing pressed forward with her run and slipped the ball to her left just inside the circle, dropping low she executed a reverse stick shot into the top right of the goal net. 0-7. With only minutes to play, Carrow continued to try for a goal. A pressured attack down their left was rewarded with a penalty corner. The shot came which was safely saved by City keeper Summer Haylock. The ball fell to City's defender Kim Lusher who cleared the ball long and wide to find Caroline Illing running in from the half way line to receive it on the turn. Driving the right the lone defender behind Illing tried vainly to slow the counter attack, but Illing chucked the ball into space down the right wing. Grace Kidner was running into the space and received the ball neatly to drive into the circle. Looking up she had Sabina Illing running into the top of the circle and Emily Greenway running the far post both undefended. Making a great decision Kidner released the ball to Greenway as the keeper had squared up to Illing. Greenway received the ball neatly and slotted home the ball behind the keeper to complete the 0-8 win. A fabulous team goal to finish a fabulous team game. POTM was awarded to Sabina Illing

LADIES 3RD XI - 18/02/2017 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/02/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2-1 Win REPORT: This was the last of the Womens 3rd’s inter-club league match and as the underdogs, the Womens 4th’s were keen for a win. City's 3rd's started the game a bit lethargically, perhaps needing time to wake-up given the early push-back and the 4ths took full advantage of this slow start, dominating the first 10 minutes, but luckily the defence managed to organise themselves, with the help of GK Summer Haylock, to render the 4ths fruitless from their efforts. Gradually, the Womens 3rds began to find each other, linking clean passes and exploiting the available space which finally paid off with a rebounded short-corner strike, which allowed Rachel Cave to weave her way through the defence to score the first goal of the match. With a sigh of relief and their heads held high, it wasn’t long before the 3rd's teamwork allowed Grace Kidner to speed past the Womens 4’s defence and pass a long ball across the ‘D’ to find Olivia Greenway, who sneaked the ball though the goalies pads. With the score at half-time 2-0 there was still work left to do to keep the hungry Womens 4ths off their tails and they came out in the second half fighting, stronger than ever, leaving the womens 3rds chasing their heels when mistakes were made. Breaking high and early with fast legs upfront the Womens 4ths broke down the L3s defence and despite some wonderful saves from Summer Haylock the womens 4ths got one back through Womens Rachael Phillips.

Norwich City opened the score line with Rachael Cave converting from a clinically executed short corner routine. Evergreens attacking with vigour then equalised from a scuffle in the D just before the end of the first half. Evergreens then took the lead early in the second half with a sprint down the right and a quick pass to a player on the post saw Norwich City fall behind. However, City then pressured the Evergreens defence and were taking advantage of the free hits that they were being awarded and the continual pressure began to show on the Evergreen’s defence allowing Rachael Cave to lift a shot into the goal from a tight angle on the right to bring City back into the game. Following further pressure, and skilful play by Abi Bourne saw her put away the winning goal to put City in the lead. City were then able to contain Evergreens for the remaining 12 minutes of the match securing the win.

LADIES 3RD XI - 28/01/2017 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 28/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 28/01/2017 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Dereham RESULT:1-0 win REPORT: Norwich City womens 3rds had to make amends this week for a slightly lacklustre performance last week against UEA. And City 3rds did not disappoint in a fast paced, end to end match against Dereham 3rds. Dereham and City played an equally hard and fast game, and throughout there were chances that were begging to be put in the net for both teams, but good defending from both sides saw them thwarted. Neither team being able to convert any chances by the end of the first half. It was anyone's guess as to how long either team could keep up the intensity, City had a good spell of pressure on the Dereham defence, and with both determination and patience the effort finally paid off with a shot by Emily Greenway pounced upon and finished off by sister Liv Greenway lifting City's spirit. Dereham then began to play the long ball through from the back to their forwards and occasionally looked dangerous on the attack and with a ball slipping through the City defence an opportunity for Dereham arose with a one-on-one with City's goal keeper Summer Haylock who handled the pressure with ease and forced the player to put the shot wide of the goal. Another Dereham shot hitting the post was deflected across the goal but calmly cleared by City's defence. Dereham fought to get themselves back into the game right up to the final whistle but City just had the edge to bag the 3 points. POTM: Megan Conway

City started strong with a high tempo early on, passing well from the back through to mid-field by Gemma Sargent, Rachel Gregory, Megan Conway, Jenni Stanghan and Jenny Brine. City's forwards pressing and having most of the possession in the first half. This soon paid off with a well worked goal straight from the training ground, when Emily Greenway passed the ball to Caroline Illing who was unmarked in the circle, to sweep the ball into the net. City still had the edge over UEA, but with a slight lapse in concentration from City, UEA found themselves on the break and equalised. City soon picked themselves up, with an impressive goal from Phoebe York, who had a free run all the way from the half way line to UEAs circle taking a strike from the top of the circle making the score 2-1 to City just before half time. Second half was end to end, with both City and UEA having chances. Summer Haylock kept City ahead with some fine saves and hard work from Sabina Illing, Abi Bourne, Grace Kidner, Olivia Broadway and Olivia Greenway keeping UEA on their toes. Another break from UEA resulted in them equalising the match once again. The last 10 minutes of the game City had the upper hand, but just couldn't find the net. Leaving the final score 2-2. POTM Gemma Sargent for her hard work in defence.

Good passing early on between Phoebe York, Rachael Cave, Rachel Gregory settling city down into the match. City took the lead after around 20 minutes of play, through a ball in from Sabina Illing, which the keeper deflected in the direction of Olivia Greenway to slot home making the score 1-0 to city. Towards the end of the first half, Dragons found some luck with a short corner deflecting off a city player and into the back of the net, leveling the game 1-1. Shortly after Dragons equaliser, they capitalised with city still suffering the effects of the first goal, Dragons had a quick break towards city's goal, unfortunately another city deflection making the score 2-1 to Dragons. Start of the second half was an edgy affair, with both teams eager to get ahead. City making good use of their substitutes keeping on top of the game, with Kirstin Aitken and Alice Beckett playing solidly at the back with Gemma Sargent and Megan Conway. With Jenni Stanghan vocally encouraging the team, city soon got the equaliser with a great ball through from Sabina to Caroline Illing, who passed it across the circle to Emily Greenway waiting to finish, making the final score 2-2. Even contest and a fair result, thanks to coach pies helping on the sideline. POTM- Sabina Illing.

LADIES 3RD XI - 10/12/2016 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: 3-1 (L) REPORT: NCHC 3s were well and truly up for the return fixture against the NCHC Womens 2s, keen to get a good result and show how well we can play as a team. The game started strong from both sides with early chances for both teams. The 2s were first to find the backboard of the goal when Emily Francis was given space to drive the ball into the D and take a firm shot on target. The 3s kept fighting and tried to apply pressure and not give the 2s too much time on the ball. Unfortunately Milly Brown was able to add to the score-line before half time, putting the City 3s 2-0 down. The second half saw an improved performance from City 3s, and play was end to end, with several short corner opportunities which we were unable to convert. The 2s were working hard to break through the strong 3s defence and eventually Mollae Scott secured a tap-in on the far post putting the 2s 3-0 up. 3s were determined to get something out of the game and after several near misses, Emily Greenway lifted the ball towards the goal, where Keeper Serena Scott got a glove to it, but the ball scuffed over the top of her finger tips where Liv Greenway was waiting to tap the ball into the net behind her. A good performance from both teams, and the final score was 3-1 to NCHC 2s. Player of the match was awarded to Edie Mason who had a fantastic game in goal and made some important saves.

LADIES 3RD XI - 03/12/2016 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 03/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 03/12/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 3-0 (W) REPORT: Captains across the club were faced with a task on their hands this week due to lack of player availability, however after much organising City 3’s headed to Harleston with a full squad containing a number of City 4s players , some of whom had already played a tough game earlier in the day. City started in their usual way and seemed to lack enthusiasm somewhat, the game was fairy evenly matched but Magpies did seem to have a slight edge and with some well drilled passing soon won a short corner. City defended well and Gemma Sargent was able to keep out any threats as she blocked the shot from the top of the D. The ball was up and down the pitch throughout the duration of the first half when Hannah Jarvis drove through the middle to find Hannah Bush in space at the top of the D where she struck the ball and cleanly planted it into the back board leaving the score 1-0 at half time. After a constructive team talk from Coach Matthew "Pies" Brine, City were out of the blocks on the whistle and keen to take home 3 points. The team seemed to step it up a notch and with some excellent passing around the back the ball was fed up to the forward line and dribbled into the D where Magpies fouled with a stick tackle and a short corner was awarded to City. Emily Spencer stepped up to the top of the D and took a straight strike firing the ball right into the corner of the goal. As Magpies seemed to tire City kept their heads and soon found themselves in the oppositions D once again, Caroline Illing received a good pass from Jenni Stanghan and firmly pushed the ball past the keeper only for it to be rebounded off the post and back out to her, she then slipped the ball to Emily Greenway on the left who popped it behind the keeper and into the goal leaving the final score 3-0 to City. Special mention and thank you to those who helped fill the gaps in our squad this week, POTM was awarded to Emily Spencer for her composure, accurate passing and fantastic goal!

City did not let their heads sink, fighting back, with a circle entry from Rachael Cave and deflection from Mollae Scott levelling the score. City continued to work hard, creating lovely link-up play and much pressure on the oppositions defence. With a short corner awarded, City took their chance for a second goal, with Anna Brook injecting to Rachael Cave at top D, Anna quickly ran to post to receive the deflection. Loddon then levelled the score again having broken through the strong city defence. City struggled to find another goal despite having much of the possession throughout the 2nd half. We knew it would be tough and sure enough Broadland were fast out of the blocks and put us under pressure from the start. It wasn’t long before they opened the scoreline. City fought hard to keep Broadland at bay, with Goal Keeper Summer Haylock making a number of important saves. City’s defence found themselves under constant pressure with wave after wave of attacks from Broadland, and it wasn’t long before they slotted home a 2nd and then 3rd goal, putting the half-time score at 3-0. After an inspiring team talk from Coach Debbie Bryant, City ramped up their efforts for the 2nd half, making sure they were fighting for every 50/50 ball. Unfortunately Broadland managed to break through the City Defence one more time, adding a 4th goal to their tally. City were looking much stronger in the 2nd half, and were able to put the Broadland defence under pressure on a number of occasions. Eventually City got what they were looking for when Anna Horsley found herself in a 1 on 1 situation and was able to scoop the ball over the keeper and past the goal line. This lifted City’s spirits and they continued to push forward, seeing more of the possession and having several further attempts on goal. The final score was 4-1 to Broadland, and POTM again went to Gemma Sargent for her relentless work in defence.

LADIES 3RD XI - 12/11/2016 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 12/11/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 12/11/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Dens RESULT: 2-1 (L) REPORT: NCHC Womens 3s made the short trek to Dragons Den on a cold and drizzly afternoon to take on Dragons 3s who were just 2 points above us in the league. We were keen to try and take at least a point for this fixture but knew it would be tough, especially since 4 members of the team had already played earlier in the day. City started strong and the play was end to end with chances for both teams. City were eventually successful after Kate Hartland took a straight strike from a short corner, which rebounded off the keepers pads to Emily Greenway, who calmly laid the ball off to Jenni Stanghan who was on the P spot and able to tuck the ball in between the keepers legs. The score at half time was 1-0 to City and with several of our Womens 2s supporting us on the side-lines we were determined to stay in the lead. Unfortunately Dragons ramped up the pressure and City seemed to lose their structure, allowing Dragons to break away and even the scoreline. City reacted to this and mounted numerous attacks, gaining several short corners, but none were successful. Another break-away runner from Dragons managed to get the better of City’s defence and put the score line at 2-1 to Dragons. End to end play continued until the final whistle and City were disappointed to come away with no points after such a positive start. POTM was awarded to Gemma Sargent for her work rate and determination.

Despite the ominous weather City started the game with strength and determination and were able to keep the ball in the opposition’s half the majority of the game. City were able to penetrate the attacking D on numerous occasions, and several early shots were saved by the keeper or went slightly wide of the goal. Eventually a strong pass from Olivia Greenway came across the mouth of the goal to sister Emily Greenway who was able to control the ball and slide it past the keeper making the half time score 1-0 to City. The second half saw much of the same, with Carrow unable to find a way though the City Midfield and Defence. City continued to pressure Carrow in their D and had many more opportunities to score which were denied by the Carrow keeper. Carrow did manage to break away from the City Defence at one point but City Keeper Serena Scott stepped up to clear the ball and keep a clean sheet. City were unable to convert any more of their efforts on goal so the final score remained at 1-0. Player of the Match was awarded to Kirstin Aitken for her strong defensive performance.

LADIES 3RD XI - 22/10/2016 VS EVERGREENS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams School RESULT: 2-0 (W) REPORT: Norwich City 3rds were keen to bag all three points this week, having been only able to pick up 1 point the week before. Unfortunately City were slow out of the blocks, letting Evergreens dominate in the opening 20 minutes, however the City's Keeper and defensive unit worked hard to ensure that Evergreen's opportunities were fruitless. Jenni Stanghan opened the scoreline for City after finding herself with an opportunity for a strong strike at the top of the D and made absolutely sure it slotted home firmly. A superb strike from Rachael Cave from a short corner gave City the second goal putting the score at 2-0 at half time. An uplifting half-time team talk by coach Matt ‘Pies’ Brine helped City focus and ramp up the tempo in the second half. With the midfield now engaging early, the young City forwards could create more great opportunities, many nail bitingly just missing the target. The final goal of the game came from a brilliantly worked short corner routine by City who made the Evergreens defence chase the ball around the D before finally finding Emily Greenway on the post to deflect the ball into the netting. Player of the match was awarded to Anna Brook.

D (4-4) 15/10/2016 - W3 vs Dereham 3 (H / L) A GAME OF SHORT CORNERS |

LADIES 3RD XI - 15/10/2016 VS DEREHAM 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 15/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 15/10/2016 HEADLINE: A game of short corners LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TAVERHAM RECREATION FACILITY RESULT: 4-4 (D) REPORT: NCHC Womens 3s were fired up and ready to take on Dereham 3s in a bid to secure a win and the 3 points they desired. Both teams started strongly, but Dereham earned an early short corner where the ball took a well rehearsed deflection into the top corner of the goal giving Dereham an early lead. City reacted quickly and fought hard to get back in the game so it wasn’t long before Mollae Scott scored a tap-in on the left post. Both teams managed to win several short corners, most of which were defended well, but eventually City managed to convert by Liv Greenway scoring from a rebound off the keepers pads. City seemed to have the upper hand moving in to the last 10 minutes of the first half, and when Grace Kidner passed in a ball from the right of the D, it found Liv Greenway on the P spot and she slapped the ball passed the keeper putting City 3-1 up at half time. City felt confident that they had this one in the bag so started the second half with determination, but Dereham ramped up the pressure and both teams defence were tested, with yet more short corners being awarded. Dereham managed to pull 2 more goals back, and with the score at 3-3 both teams were keen to take the upper hand. Dereham kept the pressure on the City defence and they eventually snuck in a 4th goal to take the lead. City kicked it up a gear, launching numerous attacks, and gaining numerous fruitless short corners. The minutes were ticking away and it seemed like City would end up defeated, until the dying seconds of the game when Anna Brook drove the ball round the right hand side and found a foot in the D. A short corner was awarded as the final whistle blew, so City all piled forward in a last ditch attempt to secure a point. Sabina Illing stepped up and took an almighty straight-strike which flew straight past the Dereham keeper and smashed against the backboard, leaving the closing score at 4-4. Player of the Match was awarded to Sabina Illing.

L (1-2) 08/10/2016 - W3 vs UEA 2 (A / L) |

LADIES 3RD XI - 08/10/2016 VS UEA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-1 (L) REPORT: In a game that felt full of opportunities, Norwich City 3s were disappointed not to come away with a win. City’s pressure started from the off and it seemed like we were going to have the upper hand. Unfortunately the first goal was to come from UEA, with a player allowed to drive through the middle and put their shot away. City picked themselves up from this and there was a period where it seemed like surely City would have to get a goal, but nothing seemed to go our way. Shots went just wide, deflections were just missed, and the UEA GK seemed to be managing to save everything else. City continued to pile on the pressure, resulting in a string of short corners, but these were fended off by the UEA defence. Finally, however, after a bit of ping-pong in the D, Mollae Scott mopped up a deflection and got it past the UEA keeper and into the goal. With the score 1-1 at half time it was still feeling like a winnable fixture, and the second half began in a similar vein to the first. Again UEA continued to defend effectively, with their goalie pulling off save after save. Unfortunately, after some good teamwork in defence for much of the game, UEA got their second goal from a strong short corner strike, putting city 2-1 down. With a short corner awarded to city in the last 2 minutes, it seemed like a draw might be possible, but it wasn’t to be and city were left with the frustration of having had a lot of the play and possession but nothing to show for it. POTM was Mollae Scott, who showed great persistence and commitment, with special mention to Grace Kidner who was a close second in the votes.

W (5-1) 01/10/2016 - W3 vs Norwich City 4 (H / L) |

LADIES 3RD XI - 01/10/2016 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 5-1 (W) REPORT: City 3’s arrived at Taverham for an early morning game against the newly promoted City 4’s. The game started with the 4’s having much of the possession and looked very good going forward, the 3’s worked hard to defend and trying to push the ball out of the danger zone but when a loose ball was fumbled inside the D the 4’s seized their opportunity and planted it firmly in the back of the net. With this as a big wake up call for the 3’s we knew we had to up our game and started putting on more pressure, raising the intensity. The 3’s kept their heads and with some great movement from the back and midfield , Caroline Illing found herself in a good position on the right and swept the ball into the D where Mollae Scott was able to slot the ball past the keeper. With this goal city 3’s found their passion and started to pick up the pace and soon after Jenni Stanghan stopped the ball from a 16 yard hit, skilfully drove into the D where Caroline Illing popped the ball high into the net leaving the score 2-1 at half time. After a much needed team talk from Pies, in the second half City 3’s continued to put the pressure on. In the heat of the sun we kept our cool with some great passing round the back from Kirsten Aitken and Gemma Sargent who fed the ball up to Anna Brooke pushing forward to open up the game with some skilfully timed passes up to the attack. Olivia Greenway found herself in space when she received the ball inside the D and passed it across the goal to Emily Greenway who slipped the ball in over the line. The 4’s did not give up and continued to fight for the ball and managed to break into the D several times, but with some text book defending from Jenny Brine who stood her ground and some great tackles from Maddie Anthony they made it difficult for the opposition to form an attack. With more pressure from City 3’s the ball was played round the back and onto the stick of Mollae Scott who swept the ball into the left of the goal. Soon after City were awarded a short corner, the ball was pushed out hard by Olivia Greenway and received by Caroline Illing at the top of the D and slipped it under her arm to Maddie Anthony who, with a great strike, fired the ball into the back of the goal leaving the final scored 5-1. Huge credit to the effort and work rate of the 4’s who did not give up and gave us a good game and by no means made it easy! Excellent team effort from the 3’s which was shown in the POTM with many players receiving votes but it was awarded to Anna Brooke for her hard work and determination throughout the game.

W (4-0) 24/09/2016 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 4 (A / L) AND WE'RE OFF... |

LADIES 3RD XI - 24/09/2016 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 24/09/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 24/09/2016 HEADLINE: And we're off... LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: DRAGONS DEN RESULT: 0-4 (W) REPORT: After last weeks exhausting interclub fixture, NCHC Womens 3s were excited to take on newly promoted Dragons 4s. Having beaten them several weeks earlier in a pre-season friendly, City were confident that they could achieve 3 points here and were determined to work hard to earn them. After a rousing team talk from Coach Debbie Bryant, City started well with strong passing, and it wasn’t long before Jenni Stanghan found a Dragons foot in the opposition D, winning the first of several early short corner attempts. Despite their well drilled routines, City were unable to convert any of these, and it wasn’t until Emily Greenway slapped the ball from a narrow angle past the keeper when City took the lead. With new recruit Rachael Cave working hard in Centre Midfield, there were a number of close attempts on the Dragons goal, with offerings from Abi Bourne and Anna Brooke, but some neat passing around the top of the D from Alice Beckett and Liv Greenway resulted in Caroline Illing getting a tap-in on the near post. A quickly taken long corner then saw Grace Kidner slap the ball hard from just inside the D, making a resounding “thud” on the Dragons backboard, putting City 3-0 up at half time. The second half saw a re-invigorated Dragons team ramp up the pressure, but Gemma Sargent and Kirstin Aitken were able to mop up most break-away balls, with Goal Keeper Edie Mason making a couple of reassuring saves. Jenny Brine and Phoebe York worked hard to get the ball back up to the forward line, and when the ball was sent air-born in front of the Dragons Goal, Emily Greenway was able to tap it over the keepers pads, making the final score 4-0 to City. Player of the Match deservedly went to Rachael Cave for her work rate and superb distribution of the ball.
