Nathan Dixon scored at the far post after being set up by Adie Land, whilst James Dorling converted a penalty stroke having been denied by a foot on the line. The defence mopped up any Watton attacks to the extent that keeper Max Cocks didn't touch the ball.

Though enjoying significant amounts of possession and circle penetrations City failed to trouble the Nomads keeper on more than a handful of occasions. City's defence and play up to the 25 was generally good but in the final quarter were guilt of dribbling onto open sticks, some poor pass selection along with quality of leads. City opened the scoring early in the second half through an Adie Land short corner strike, Nomads equalising with a reverse stick shot ten minutes from time.

MENS 7TH XI - 06/01/2018 VS DEREHAM 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 06/01/2018 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 06/01/2018 HEADLINE: Good start to the New Year LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: DEREHAM HOCKEY CLUB RESULT: DEREHAM 4 0 NORWICH CITY 7 2 REPORT: For the first game of the New Year City arrived at Dereham two hours prior to the start time. Fortunately, all members of the bare 11 plus Paul Ayers, our umpire, were able to stay for the changed start time. On the plus side we were able to have a thorough warm-up under the guidance of Simon Black. However, the chilly evening and intermittent rain made it difficult to keep hands warm which affected one or two players. City started brightly, playing some slick passing hockey and restricting Dereham to sporadic attacks to the extent that keeper Dave King did not touch the ball in the first half. For all their endeavours City only managed a single goal in the first half though it should have been more. It was debutant and man of the match Jonty Black who opened the scoring moving left to right across the circle and unleashing a powerful reverse stick shot to beat the keeper. After the break Dereham became more of an attacking force, with the City defence having a little more to do and Dave King having a few touches, but they were unable to prevent Dave Keeping a clean sheet. City finally added a second with a move down the right. The ball was threaded through to Alex Tomkinson running in behind the defence who crossed to Lee Allsop, Lee’s shot towards the far post was touched in by Keinan Barber. A good performance from City’s 11 who were pleased to find the warmth of the clubhouse after the game.

The returning Rich Sparrow then increased the lead with a short corner strike. Nomads pulled one back before the break. City played some nice hockey using the wings to good effect. The defence of keeper Ben Millett, man of the match Cameron Husband, Ali Wardale, Malachy McDonnell and Reuben Cooke dealt well with the majority of the Nomads attacks.

The 7's with a full squad were missing some of their regular adults and also had an abundance of fowards so Lee Allsop and Nathan Dixon were pressed into service as half backs. This didn't disrupt the team and it was the 7's who played the better hockey in the first half moving the ball about well. The 7's soon lost full back Cameron Husband to a hand injury so Lee Allsop was moved even further back where he produced a man of the match performance. Despite their possession the 7's weren't able to capitalise and fell behind to a David White strike. After the break the 6's came more into the game adding the second from a powerful Simon Deakin strike. Whilst it was a win for the elders the youngsters received a lot of credit for their skill and style of play.

City had the better of the exchanges in the first half going ahead when James Dorling scored from a short corner. His initial shot was saved and following a bit of a scramble the ball fell kindly to James who, with the goalkeeper out of position was able to slap home. City kept the pressure up and when they moved the ball quickly made inroads deep into the Dragons defence. Keinan Barber and Luke Keeley were causing the Dragons defence problems and it was no surprise that they were both involved in City’s second goal. Nathan Dixon picked up the ball on the half way line moving the ball swiftly to Keinan Barber who in turn moved it on to the advancing Lee Allsop who travelled into the circle and lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper. With the ball going marginally wide Luke Keeley was on hand to tap in. Dragons attacks were being ably dealt with by the City Defence where man of the match Malachy MsDonnell was prominent. After the break City relaxed a little and allowed Dragons back into the game. Dragons reduced the arrears, but were unable to secure a second as the City defence stood firm.

MENS 7TH XI - 11/11/2017 VS WATTON 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 11/11/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 11/11/2017 HEADLINE: One to forget LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: WATTON SPORTS CENTRE RESULT: WATTON 2 0 NORWICH CITY 7 1 REPORT: City struggled to find any rhythm in this visit to Watton. The sandy pitch seemed to disrupt the quick flowing hockey that City had been playing in recent matches. Though several short corners were won City weren’t able to capitalise on them. Despite a stern half time team talk the second half followed a similar patter to the first, with the exception that City managed, somewhat fortuitously, to convert a short corner, man of the match Lee Allsop applying the finishing touch. The City defence of James Dorling, Cam Husband, Reuben Cooke, Malachy McDonnel and Joby Castlo-Hall plus keeper Guy Thrower had plenty to do to ensure that City kept a clean sheet.

Despite creating opportunities City were unable to capitalise on them and on another day could have scored 4 or 5.

However, it was the superior skills of the City juniors and old heads that won the day. City moved the ball about nicely though a yard of extra pace would have been useful on occasions. City took the lead in the first half through the experience Jim Pallister and followed up with a second from Rio Iaccarino. After the break the students drew level, but City were not to be outdone Monty Platt scoring with a neatly struck short corner and Nick Hooper also scoring from a short corner.

MENS 7TH XI - 21/10/2017 VS PELICANS 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 7th XI DATE: 21/10/2017 FIXTURE: Mens 7th XI VS 21/10/2017 HEADLINE: First defeat of the season LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: LYNNSPORT, KINGS LYNN RESULT: PELICANS 4 4 NORWICH CITY 7 3 REPORT: City 7’s suffered their first defeat of the season when they travelled to a windy Kings Lynn to face an experienced Pelicans team. City started well and went ahead after four minutes with some good work down the right which led to Rio Iaccarino applying the finishing touch. However, Pelicans fought back, attacking with numbers to frequently overrun the City defence where Charles Anderson in goal and the two City full backs Cameron Husband and James Dorling were working overtime. The goals flowed for Pelicans and by the break they were 4-1 up. The City half time team talk centred on all players working harder and defending from the front during the second period. The team followed the orders to a tee, Pelicans attacks were quashed earlier and the City players covered well defensively reducing the amount of attacking opportunities for the home side. Consequently, City were able to mount more attacks where the midfield of Rio Iaccarino, Jim Pallister and man of the match Toby Pallister were gaining a much stronger hold on the game. Rio Iaccarino pulled one back for City midway through the half to claim his second. Despite further opportunities City couldn’t add to their tally until a minute from time when Luke Keeley bundled home. A narrow loss, but a valuable lesson in the need for a high work rate.

City with their youngest adult team for some time took an early lead when a cross from the left looped over the goalkeeper and found Alex Tomkinson waiting at the far post to knock home at head height. Although City enjoyed the lions share of possession to create inroads into the Dereham defence the visitors took advantage of their counter attacks to create chances of their own. However, there was no further score before the break. The game followed a similar vein in the second period, but with ten minutes remaining Dereham were a little fortuitous to equalise. City were not be denied and with the clocking ticking down player of the match Elliot Fox picked the ball up just outside the 23 and weaved his way into the circle before firing past the keeper.

Nomads were missing a number of players and struggled against the passing and movement of City's eager youngsters. Nomads then settled and though City were still in the ascendancy it was a while before a third was adde, Alex Tomkinson scoring with another lift over the keeper. 3-0 up at the break and City were asked to keep the momentum and work rate going, which they proceeded to do. The result was some excellent attacking moves and some well worked goals, Joe Holden (2), Ed Taylor (2), Keinan Barber and Rob MaCall were the scorers to give City a 6-0 lead at the break. After the break North Norfolk re-organised and City lost some of their fluidity. Though City still created chances they weren't quite so clear cut, whilst North Norfolk were mounting more attacks and putting the City back line under pressure eventually pulling one back. Man of the match Cameron Husband was responsible for thwarting many North Norfolk attacks, whilst Ed Taylor just missed out on man of the match for his work in midfield and 2 goals

City continued to play some neat passing hockey with Alex Tomkinson showing some nice touches down the right flank, whilst in defence man of the match Malachy McDonnell put in a good shift providing lots of cover.
